I used to love watching this show when I was a kid. 👌😎
My Dad was a Traffic cop at the time and would regularly rock up in a BMW528i for his break time.
He had previously drove the Triumph as well but the BMW apparently was on another level performance wise.

Fuel injected Triumph 2.5PI, as used by the Met Police. Super fast when the injection system is properly set up. Capable in excess of 125mph with manual/overdrive running on five star fuel and 0-60 in just under 8 seconds. 80-100 in direct top simply unmatched by any saloon of the day except an XJ12 or Double Six. All stats given in the magazines get the performance of this model wrong. Twin carb versions were breathlessly fussy above 3,700 rpm on what is an unusually long stroke engine, but with the early pre- '73 PI system, the engine revs smoothly right up to the 5,850 rpm red-line when on-song; usually on a hot, late afternoon in the summer. Best car I ever owned.

@@briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206 the cars in this video are a 1978 Ford Capri 3.0 S, and a 1971 Triumph 2500 PI, the Capri being 44 years old and the triumph 51 years old. So yes your modern car will be faster than cars that are 44 and 50 years old, what’s your point? Cars in the future will be faster than your fiesta.

Both action-packed car chase sequences featured here were actually from the same episode of The Professionals titled Man Without a Past.
The Ford Capri driven by Bodie (portrayed by the late Lewis Collins) is quite a cool car.
The very same incidental music was used on both these action-packed car chase sequences of the Man Without a Past episode of The Professionals.
An American plainclothes FBI officer (portrayed by the late Ed Bishop) was behind the wheel of a Triumph 2000 or 2500 sedan.

To all the experts on here saying that's a 2.0 Capri and not a 3.0 you can clearly see the right hand tail pipe right at the start of the clip, four cylinder Capri's had the exhaust tailpipe on the left hand side (except the Mk1), tailpipe on the right gives it away as a 3.0. No, independent rear suspension using trailing arms and sliding spline shafts with coil springs and dampers. In other words, the same set-up as a modern BMW. Triumph were well ahead of the game at the time with what had been brought out in 1963 with the Mk1 Triumph 2000 saloon. Later on, the 1975-77 2500S used firmer coils and shocks and had less roll, but both stuck to the road well. They were designed for comfort and to absorb road bumps, which they certainly could.

    Is that Capri a 2.0 S or 3.0 S? Couldn't see two tail pipes and didn't sound like a V6.

It was a 3.0S, back in the days when two tail pipes was something special, now every ugly, modern pile of shite has them.

They only used 3.0 Capris in The Professionals as their main cars. Tommy had a black, 1.6 MK2 though.

    Are these motors straight sixes?
I'd have my old Calibre V6 back if I could, auto, you could drive up to Scotland and still get out of it refreshed. Low life insured driver wrote it off.🤬

The Capri is a V6. The Triumph is a straight six.

@@Markycarandbikestuff Thank you Marky for your observation .Drivers on tv or films tend to give a wrong attitude to young thick drivers. When you been driving as long as me you will understand .

@@SuperBigwinston Sorry, i was being sarcastic, been driving myself since 1988, been driving HGV's for 26 years and passed my bike test 4 years ago, know what you mean though, there is a generation that act like they are in the dreadful Fast and Furious movies, generally TV shows wont show reckless/fast driving and the days of "the car is the star" are long gone.

@@Markycarandbikestuff I apologise Marky i thought you was being a smartass lol. I been driving since 1983 and in lorry's since a young child with my dad all over and in many many lorries really old ones with no power steering and big steering wheels to ones in the 1979. My dad drove till he retired he was stuck in France during the dockers strike. He said the dockers were ok they even had lorry v docker boxing matches he was back from Italy . He once brought a 19 year old very pretty Polish girl to Britain she was nice to him. I never took the HGV passed bike test 1999 had accident 2001 lost my right leg and many other injury's. I think most dangerous time to drive is in the evening and late evening. The cars are like rockets now in the hands of inexperienced drivers.

Terrible cars, terrible chase. with clearly speeded up film to make it look faster. The suspension on those things was like a mattress and don't get me started on those 'short-shift' gear sticks.
