I love seeing Lou's reactions. It's like a booster shot of fresh Geoff admiration; makes me goosebump all over again!
I realized at 7:04 just after Geoff hits that sub-harmonic, the sound of a match being struck heralds the candle (in the background next to the T.V.) lighting up. Somehow I thought it was always lit, but upon looking back, it isn't until that moment. Wow.

Well, Geoff did have a hammer in "Dragonborn Comes". You should have him react to that, "Headless Horseman", or "Oogie Boogie Song". New Geoff and VoicePlay on Patreon tonight most likely. Did you know that Geoff bakes homemade bread? He is a triple threat in one sexy package:sing, dance, cook/bake. Tim says he does all the cooking at home. Have Tim and Geoff do a singing cooking show on Food Network. 99% of viewing audience will be female.

He considers himself a baritone who can reach bass notes. Tim Faust in an interview with The Charismatic Voice said something to the effect that to sing better bass he was taught to reach for proficiency in his higher range. Geoff also in his interview with her said that if you sing bass you won't get work in theme parks, which was his day job for many years, so he worked his voice to have a good tone in his higher ranges. Also, when he or Layne are arranging for VP, they'll sing each part for the others and either sing higher, or sing and pitch up so the others can get the idea of what they're supposed to do.

That's why we all come to reactors who talk to us! So don't worry or apologize for the pauses. I like your friend Lou. Bring him back some more. When Geoff was still working at Disney and Universal he said all the parts he sang were tenors. When doing VoicePlay work, he took up the bass part although it didn't feel natural to him. Tim Foust worked with him to get the growl going, but subharmonics are easier for him. He considers Tim the master of the growl. He occasionally does a growl. Have you done Survivors: Zombies vs Hillbillies? It's fun with VoicePlay and Home Free both chiming in.

I think this is one of my favorite reactions that you have done. Sarah is wonderful, but Lou is kind of a treasure.
Geoff has made videos on how to sing low, or really low, in which he explains his techniques. They're interesting even if you have no desire to do it yourself. In his latest, due out soon, he's back in leather. Just thought I'd let you know. :)

@@wyattgutierrez1904 I heard that from someone who is a patron and gets the behind the scenes info. Like you, I was thinking that he was a baritone/tenor.
Geoff's recorded range is 5 octaves, not 5+. he has said he can go a little bit higher than A5 on a very good day, but it's not been recorded so it's not counted as his range.
As for Eli, his range is 4+ octaves. to reach 5 he would have to do subharmonics, and although he's toyed around a bit with them back when Geoff learned them, he doesn't use them in singing. I'm a VP patron myself, and I have never seen any indication of Eli having a 5 octave range. he did make some subharmonic sounds when a patron asked if he still knew how to do them, but can't really count that as "vocal range".

Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold is mandatory. it just is. then Big Bad John. then expand to include VoicePlay, and proceed immediately to Queen in 5 Minutes. if Lou survives that, he may (MAY, mind you) be ready to approach Hoist the Colors. if, after all that, he has any brain cells/vocal cords/bodily function left...then round the ultimate corner to Wicked Medley. and then call that poor man a medic.
You should really react to Dimash Kudaibergen singing SOS. Preferably the Slavic Bazaar version. He has a 7 octave vocal range and he puts 110% into every performance
4:45 That note was done in chest according to Geoff, despite it sounding like a subharmonic. He tried saying that he did the whole song in chest but that's not possible.
A couple pointers in identifying unique vocal techniques:
- Subharmonics sound like one note with a deeper one laid on top of it.
- Growls are VERY breathy.
- Fry notes are quiet and nowhere near as smooth-sounding as a chest or subharmonic note. They're almost patchy.

Started practicing subharmonics a few months ago. It's not nearly as clean as the big man himself but it has reallllly opened up the ridiculous low notes and it's a ton of fun
