The bass at Voiceplay is absolutely amazing as is everyone else. I highly recommend their Oogie Boogie Song" and their "Can't Help Falling in Love" has amazing harmonies :)
Their names: Layne Stein: far left, beatboxer Eli Jacobson (pronounced Ellie): bald one, tenor Rachel Potter: guest, the one who plays Elphaba, she was also in the Little Mermaid Medley Emoni Wilkins: guest, the one who plays Glinda Cesar de la Rosa: newest addition to Voiceplay, tenor-baritone, the one who started the medley Geoff Castellucci: far right, bass, arranger for this song
So this was arranged by the bassist Geoff Castellucci!! You must check out his solo stuff it’s insane!! I would recommend starting with his cover of blackbird!!
Rachel Potter was the one singing Defying Gravity. You are correct she was in the Little Mermaid medley and she has collaborated with Voiceplay a lot. She has also been in the Moana medley and Kidnap the Sandy Claws
She was also Wednesday Addams on Broadway… she absolutely killed it there too. Was fortunate enough to sing with her on a cruise ship. Truly an amazing woman!

You know, I’ve watched A LOT of vocal professionals (voice coaches, opera singers, vocal scientists, etc) react to A LOT of different music. For the record, “no ma’am, mm-mmm, you’re not getting away with that, do it again” is easily my favorite commentary line in all of them.
Rachel (the brunette) was in one of the US tours for Wicked but as Glinda's understudy - she has been on Broadway in Evita and others though. She's a POWER house. You literally NEED to listen to something by Geoff by himself so you can hear his low and high notes. Voice Play have SOOO many good songs.
Yes! More Voiceplay! They've established themselves as my favorite Acapella group at this point. Highly recommend reacting to Hoist the Colors and Friends on the Other Side by them, and then on top of that, in the spirit of festivities, I suggest "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Geoff Castelucci, AKA Voiceplay's bass.
Geoff has a video where he shows you how to sing as deep as him and he uses his natural voice. He thinks of himself as a baritone but the rest of say bass :-) He took close to two years to get this arrangement right and figure out who fit. Rachel was actually part of the Wicked ensemble and the understudy for the good witch. I highly recommend their "Friends From The Other Side" and "Hoist the colours".
I dare say this is the best medley they’ve done so far and I’m absolutely astonished by how in sync they were and how they redefined each song!!! Rachel’s version of defying gravity may have been the best one I’ve heard!! Amazing arrangement Geoff!!!
Hoist the colors, Oogie Boogie song, Friends on the other side, If I were a rich man/girl and Moana Medly are all great ones from voiceplay lots of different techniques you can talk about. Or if you want Geoff The Bass solo you can react to Misty Mountains, House of the Rising sun, Black Bird or his newest cover of God bless ye Merry Gentlemen.
I was brought to real, onscreen tears by this one during my reaction, and everyone else I’ve seen react to it was absolutely broken by it. Was really excited to hear your take on it, and you (as always) did not disappoint. Well done 👏
One of the most amazing things to me is that VoicePlay does almost all of it on their own. Unlike so many others they do not have a record contract. This does give them a lot of creative freedom but it also means that unfortunately they aren’t as well-known as other groups. Geoff arranged this one. He and Layne, the amazing beatboxer, do most of the arrangements split pretty much 50-50. Whoever arranges also is responsible for the video. Eli (pronounced El-Lee, short for Eliezer) the bald dude down at the end near the beat boxer did the lighting and often does the lighting for the group. They have had quite a few personnel changes lately. After over 20 years, their high tenor Earl Elkins left the group in 2020. And in 2021, their baritone J left to enlist in the Navy to entertain the troops. Cesar, the adorable young man standing next to Jeff, is a new permanent member. They are still short one member and have been for sometime. So a lot of the recent productions have featured guest performers. Rachel has been with them several times and performed way back in Phantom of the Opera when Tony was still a member. She also has done Attention and Moana with them. Emoni Wilkins (pronounced EhMAHnee) also performed with them in The Bones and Bubbles Yum. I have only been able to find one or two songs that she sang on her own but they’re definitely worth checking out. She has an amazing voice. Geoff has his own channel and often clones himself for harmonies. I’ve heard them referred to as the Geoffrey, or my my favorite Geff and the Geofftones. As others have mentioned he does have a five octave range and his lowest note to date is a B0 and is frequently in that first octave. My favorite is 16 Tons followed very closely by Misty Mountains. But his range is best demonstrated in Blackbird, High and Dry, and his Halloween offerings. His new cover of God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen is gorgeous and well worth your time. One of my personal favorites for VoicePlay is the cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love with You. It is a beautiful arrangement and really demonstrates the capabilities of each singer, especially since there’s no beatboxing and we get to hear Laynes lovely baritone.
THE WAY SHE LITERALLY MOVES HER HAND TO THE NOTE IN DEFYING GRAVITY. LIKE SHE IS MOVING IT WITH HER WHOLE ASS HAND THAT CONRTOL IS SO FUCKING AWESOME MY HEART LIKE THUMPED SO HARD WHEN YOU REPLAYED IT
2 things: 1) Rachel understudied Glinda on second run of Wicked, 2) Geoff considers himself a baritone with an extended lower range (he actualy has 5 octave range with his lowest so far being a B0 and that's also almost the range Eli the bald tenor guy has size wise but placed higher)
Hannah's expression during Defying Gravity mirrored mine, I'm glad I'm not the only one offended by her amazing-ness. That girl killed it! Love Voiceplay
Finally! I’ve been suggesting Voiceplay medleys and also Geoff (the bass) videos for so long! I really hope Hannah reacts to more Voiceplay content because they are ridiculously talented. I love them so much. Pentatonix are incredibly talented too, but Voiceplay is equally as talented and don’t get near enough recognition. Please keep reacting to Voiceplay songs 🙏🏻 Hannah’s face at the end is literally every single one of the Voiceplay fans reactions to this medley. It’s insane how talented they are and I love when Rachel joins them. She was amazing in the Taylor swift/Justin Bieber medley of I knew you were trouble/as long as you love me video. I also love the fiddler on the roof song from Voiceplay. Not Rachel but amazing just the same
I've been a Wicked fan forever and Voiceplay has done this proud! I love watching your reactions to these videos. I actually cried when Rachel Potter sang Defying Gravity. The mix and arrangement of For Good was also off the charts. If you want to hear Geoff's speaking voice he does a wonderful reading of the Twas the Night before Christmas on his channel, go check it out. I swear he could read the phonebook and put me to sleep with that voice. Take care and feel better soon! Have a happy holiday season Hannah!
Please do more Voiceplay!! Hoist the Colours, Friends On The Other Side, If I Were a Rich Man, Anyway You Want It, Mr. Blue Sky and about 40 others are absolutely incredible!! Geoff Castellucci -the Bass- has his own channel with solo work. His new one is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen which is perfect for a Christmas reaction.
Their Aca-Disney Medley from a few years ago is still SO good and I listen to it whenever I need a boost of serotonin. Geoff especially, how voice just YES.
I fell in the rabbithole of voiceplay and it opened me a new experience of music. This Wicked Medley should have much more views. It is one of their best. Geoff worked for years on it. I didn't know Wicked before I heard this medley but now I really would like to see the whole musical.
Need to watch Voiceplay's 'Moana' medley with Rachel as well. Phenomenal. I really didn't know about them until Geoff started posting his solo vids and I have had nothing but sheer respect for their abilities since then. Really a premier group.
Your appreciation of music enhances my appreciation of music! I'm always pointing out vocal techniques to my family now (hopefully accurate lol), and your videos have really reignited my love for musical theatre after feeling the loss of that passion during the pandemic. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm!
Literally everything from VoicePlay is amazing. Geoff (who is the bass) does a lot of the arrangements based on their credits in the descriptions of videos. Also you'd be surprised that his speaking voice is probably not as low as you'd expect. He actually has a pretty amazing vocal range and his own solo RUclips channel under Geoff Castellucci.
I literally was breathless the entire video it was mesmerizing. I had the chills, I felt energized inside. It's a beautiful medley, Wicked is by far my favorite musical so listening to it in this form is just jaw dropping
Thank you soo much! I loved this reaction so much. I've waited for this so long 😍 So... from left to right, that's Layne (percussion), Eli (spoken Ally), Rachel Potter (from the little mermaid medley), Emoni, Cesar and last but not least Geoff (Bass). This arrangement was made by Geoff the longhaired god of low notes. Some suggestions: "Oogie Boogie Song", "Whats this?" and "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare before Christmas. Also Hoist the Colors, Bridge over troubled water, Can't help falling in love, Daddy sang bass. Geoff also has his own channel. You really should check out some of his stuff to. My favourites: High and Dry, Blackbird and Sixteen Tons. ❤
The bassist is Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci. He spend a few years arranging this and getting it set up. Please review his God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen. He is awesome.
What a great reaction!! I second//third/fourth/tenth the request that you react to more Voiceplay. I like the way you make a point of talking about each of the singers. They’re all SO good! Often Geoff’s subterranean notes get most of the attention-and yes, it’s hard not to be gobsmacked by his range, and the quality of his timber, but there isn’t a slouch in this group, and the people they bring in, like Rachel, Emoni, Jose Rosario Jr., and Ashley Diane are insanely good. If you haven’t already, you NEED to react to If I Were a Rich Man/Girl. It’s genius.
I know everyone is already suggesting it but you absolutely *need* to react to their cover of Oogie Boogie's Song. I have never seen someone *not* be shocked by it, it's so incredible.
Geoff Castellucci (the bass) does have a great speaking voice! He has his own channel and narrates some short stories that I think you’d enjoy hearing.
Hannah. Voiceplay - Oogie Boogie's Song... That bass singer is all over it, and if you watch with the subtitles at the very end, he goes so low that it says "Subterranean" for the description, and I'm telling you, the goosebumps, are subterranean.
YAAASSSS!! I also had goose bumps and tears. My fave song from Wicked is For Good, and the transition into this was amazing! When I first heard an a capella quartet sing this song, I think was the first prompt that made me join an a capella chorus to sing..... and of course Defying gravity in this arrangement was next level. I LOVED this so much! I saw Wicked the musical live on N.Y. Broadway and I thank you Hannah for introducing me to this Best arrangement of a Wicked medley ever! Get well soon, be kind to your gorgeous voice. xx
your face during defying gravity - yup. there's several more videos they did with that soloist (rachel is Amazing). but also please do more voiceplay in general.
I normally don't comment, but you're my favorite reactor so I absolutely need you to react to Citizen Queen. They're an all-female acapella group (the bass and beatboxer are amazing) that were brought together by Scott Hoying from PTX. I'll let you choose what song to react to, but they deserve far more attention than they get. Love you Hannah, from another singer and acapella enthusiast!
I am grateful that you reacted to voice play’s wicked medley. I would love to see your reactions to more of their music. Especially Geoff Castellucci’s cover of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen plus more. He is the bass singer in voice play.
I adore this version from VoicePlay. Every time I heard For Good I break down because it reminds me of my grandmother who passed a few years ago. Hearing this version makes me want to sing it again even through the tears.
We need more Voiceplay reactions! Also Geoff the Bass and arranger for this one has his own solo channel (not acapella) everything there is amazing he has a 5 octave range his new video God rest ye merry gentleman will blow you away!
These talented voices puts you in that mysterious other world where you live yourself into the music and feel the message they are portraying and they are soooo good at what they do its amazing
I'm so happy you love Voiceplay. They're one of my favorites to watch and listen to. Loved this video! Your reactions are me every time I watch their videos.
I have watched your reaction to this song about 3 times now. And the song is incredible, for sure. No doubt. But what is just as amazing is getting to see someone geek out to songs as much as I do. I too get emotional during beautiful songs no matter if they are meant to be sad or not. I love how you take the time to point out those extra special places/ parts and break it down to why they were special. There are a LOT of people that make reaction videos, and you are by far my favorite to watch. Keep it going girl!
I feel so especial when I hear "a real true bass is rare", I'm a bass with only 17.. I love tenors, I love rock tenor voice, but being a bass is amazing too... Sharing my love from Brazil 🇧🇷❤
Got goosebumps when they transitioned from For Good to Defying Gravity. That whole video was incredible, I need to go check out their channel. And then watch your Little Mermaid Medley reaction.
I've been waiting for you to react to this and it is by far my favourite reaction to it, especially at my favourite bit of defying gravity @14:55, I've lost count of how many times I've watched that section alone in my own time.
Hannah: I am covered in chills .... I've always like felt music very strongly. Maybe some of you out there feel the same way. A beautiful song ... I'm crying! Me: I can totally relate. This is me! Thank you that you exist. Now I don't feel weird anymore!
Just watched wicked part 1 recently of the movie just had part of voice play singing my head! The dancing through life part ! Made me have to rewatch this again 💚🩷
Yes, girl!!! As soon as I saw Voiceplay drop this medley, I've been waiting for you to react to it! And you did NOT disappoint! 3 of my favorite things together: you, Wicked, AND Voiceplay??? Yes please!
Definitely you should react to ''Oogie Boogie's song", "hoist the colours" and "moana medley". Also you should react to geoff castellucci's(he's the base) "monster mash", it's *chef's kiss*
Oh hon, you're doing fine. You kept it together better than I did. :) Music, good music, well done music, speaks to our emotions and if it doesn't bring something forth either the music or the person aren't quite right. Thank you for doing another Voiceplay and always, a lovely reaction.
Geoff spent YEARS working on this arrangement and it SHOWS. HE ABSOLUTELY KILLS IT. Every single person shines and you’re right, way more people should be viewing this and all their other songs

YES I LOVE VOICEPLAY!!!!!! so excited for this
I firmly believe that no one in voiceplay is human
Dayyyummmm this whole video was a BOP!!!! so good all the way through! Imma go show some love on their video!
Yay! Mic boom arm! I enjoy your videos thoroughly, and consistent audio makes it even better!
I love Rachel’s voice 🤩 she is super talented
SAME!!!! I love that we geek out over the same things! I have cried over up beat barbershop songs because the harmonies were so amazing.
We need more Voiceplay reactions!
Also Geoff the Bass and arranger for this one has his own solo channel (not acapella) everything there is amazing he has a 5 octave range his new video God rest ye merry gentleman will blow you away!
You mean the baritone
These talented voices puts you in that mysterious other world where you live yourself into the music and feel the message they are portraying and they are soooo good at what they do its amazing
Omg I love wicked and this was incredible
I'm so happy you love Voiceplay. They're one of my favorites to watch and listen to. Loved this video! Your reactions are me every time I watch their videos.
Yessss please more Voiceplay! I would recommend Oogie Boogie, If I Were a Rich Man/Girl, and Hoist the Colors.
Geoff Castellucci the bass singer of voiceplay does have his own channel where he does his own solo work and also does tutorial videos.
You mean the baritone singer right
Yeah Geoff is bass singer but he says he’s baritone singer.
they’re amazing wow
You absolutely have to watch their cover of phantom of the opera, it will blow you away
Voiceplay are amazing!!! So glad you reacted to them 💖 Love your reactions
VOICEPLAY IS AMAZING
So Voiceplay's Hoist The Colors and Oogie Boogie's Song are top tier and should definitely be added to your list.
Because damn.
That's it. Just. Damn.
i love you so much! you’ve taught me so much about singing, and you inspire me to become a better singer and get voice lessons
So, watching/hearing this for the first time with you.... and omg... holy crap!
Same…. All I can say is WOW!
you just embody how i feel inside about music. just absolutely speechless and amazed by the talent these beautiful humans have
alright, I'm at the 2 minute-mind-blown-mark... *going to follow Voiceplay now*
Yes, girl!!!
Voiceplays Hoist the Colors was so freaking awesome!!! Highly recommend
Oh hon, you're doing fine. You kept it together better than I did. :)
Music, good music, well done music, speaks to our emotions and if it doesn't bring something forth either the music or the person aren't quite right.
Thank you for doing another Voiceplay and always, a lovely reaction.
Geoff spent YEARS working on this arrangement and it SHOWS. HE ABSOLUTELY KILLS IT. Every single person shines and you’re right, way more people should be viewing this and all their other songs
I think it would be so much fun and so interesting if you reacted to all the versions of she used to be mine on Broadwaycom and commented a bit about their differences/similarities!!
yes!!!
I’m so glad you reacted to this. It is sooooo good.
