Beautiful car! My first ride in a car, home from the hospital after birth, was in a quite similar car, But ours had no vinyl roof, and was a 352 and Cruis-o-matic, with a bench seat. It was the Vintage Burgundy though, and with full wheel covers.
Those 427s rip, and they sound heavenly!

In Nov. of 63 I traded my baby blue 63 Galaxie 500 convertible in for a black with black interior 64 Galaxie 500XL 427cu inch with dual 4 barrels. The black beauty would fly. I survived to get married in 1965 and bought a 65 Chevy Impala which we kept until we had a set of identical twin boys in late 67, waited a year, and in late 68 got a 69 Torino Squire wagon. My life had changed for the better forever.

There is something about the lines and proportions that are just perfection. It is the Ford equivalent of the ‘65 Pontiac Grand Prix or the ‘68 Dodge Charger or the ‘70 Chevelle SS LS6. There is something about all of them that rings all my bells.

Wow, an absolutely stunning survivor, the XL interior is beautiful, and the R code 427, so rare, it`s hard to granny shift that beast, I am not a ford guy, but I sure love this one. I knew a farmer's son back in 1964 and he (or his dad paid for it) ordered a new 1964 black Ford Galaxie 500XL with the 427 w/2x4's, and 4 spd trans. Seemed like it spent more time in the dealers shop than it did on the streets, mainly due to the fact he couldn't keep clutches, U-joints or rear tires in/on it.

You should never operate the power windows unless the engine is running. It keeps you from undervoltage damage to the motors and they work without binding. And when you drive one of these cars with the old top loader if you envision yourself driving a large truck then you will learn that you do not have to rev the engine out in order to shift to the next gear. Once you have the car moving in any gear all you have to do is shift to the next gear. The engine tranny combo has enough torque to shift from first to 3rd or fourth gear without bogging the engine dowm. There is that much power and torque in that design. I often use to go from 2nd to 4th gear just for economy. It takes a while to learn how to drive an old 64 Galaxie.

The little rubber bumper tips were a very rare option back in the day. I think they could only be ordered with the XL package. This is the first 64 Galaxie I’ve seen in over 20 years with them. Power windows were also rare, a carryover from T-Birds and Lincoln-Mercury.
