Cmon Shanghai is the capital of China, its comparable to mega cities like San Fracnsico or even New York. House and car pricings are still more expensive in these cities than of Shanghai.

As a Chinese person, it is very true that you can buy extremely good street food for around 5-10 yuan.
All of this had me very hungry... I'll definitely be visiting China one day. The food and culture there is so intriguing!

The living expense is much cheaper in China than in the USA. People are paid less but only when you compare it side to side with the us. In China, one “dollar” is worth a lot more because of the economic value

This is one of the things I miss most about China. The food there is so great.
Even living as a middle class family in a huge crowded city like Shanghai, we used to get all our groceries from what were basically farmers markets. Everything was home grown and fresh. So much healthier!
All the produce from grocery stores in America is bland and there is no variety. My diet is so boring now :(

they'd be eating good, but they'd DEFINITELY stay homeless. Shanghai property value is drastically shot up due to government regulations. Near impossible to find a living space.

yea looks like a lot of plastic but i its definitely less than one single use take out container + plastic bag. Maybe one day they will switch over to biodegradable plastic or paper.

the place in china where my mom’s from is beijing (the capital of china) and a lot of the stores banned plastic bags, if you forgot your reusable bag you would have to pay and it’s not that cheap

Shaobing: $0.73 VS $2.99
Pork Bun: $0.29 VS $1.50
Fan Tuan: $0.73 VS $3.50
Glutinous Rice Ball: $0.73 VS $1.50
Jian Bing: $0.87 VS $4.75
Squid: $1.45 VS $6.99

I thought that too at first. In NYC all food is expensive, it's hard to even find a $1 slice anymore. But then I thought about how minimum wage is $15 here and in Shanghai it's definitely way lower, so the price difference is understandable.
Well I would say you better not comparing with the exchange rate. ￥5 for Chinese is almost the same like $3 for American. Like a bottle of coke is around $1.5 and ￥3.5 relatively, and for the reason of different area it does change a little bit.
@@tori_19 And actually it is hard to find the price in the video. It is pretty common if you spend ￥100 for breakfast in Shanghai as a vistor :( (Maybe not that much if you know how to find a good street restaurant)

Bing is the best. There is a variety of different fillings and it can be made for every taste. So delicious!!
seeing lots of comment complaining about the use of plastic , just being curious how does street food / food-to-go are packed in other places?
Idk about other countries but we use a lot of recycled materials. Especially plastic, cardboard and paper. Plastic bags are frowned on and we have to pay for them in the supermarket. They'll no longer offer them from January onwards. I myself don't care nor judge what other countries do. It's their business, not mine.
In Italy street food is usually given in paper envelopes, and all plastic bags are eco-friendly
In India newspaper is used for packing street for packing street food
mostly paper envelopes or cardboard trays
In México we use a lot of polystyrene containers, plastic spoons and bags 😒....
These foods look beautiful and even the process of making them is fun to watch. You can tell some of these folks have done this for a long time. The price can't be beat for the effort. Cheers from America (where I really wish we had this sort of food!)

Well, if you want tasty and cheap food I'll recommend south and south east Asian countries like India , Phillipines, Vietnam , Pakistan, Bangladesh ; in these countries you can get a full meal in less than $1 😉👍
