That cut between Lazarou’s wife, turning her into a ‘normal’ housewife is pure genius.
The team behind the show were absolute masters of edits like that.
I didn't even notice it wasn't Gatiss before that cut. It's weird how men playing women kinda tweaks your brain into letting weird things slide once you're used to that. That whole mechanic was used to perfection along with the makeup and costume to just throw you into a mindset to suspend disbelief.
Where does the cut happen? It is a different actor that walks toward screen black face or where the 'wife' is obscured?
The character is apparently based on their old landlord 😜
When i was a kid watching this when it came out i didn't even realise they were all played by three men til much later xD

Brilliant series, brilliant characters.
The best show at balancing comedy and horror. It wouldn’t take much to turn this into a genuinely disturbing drama. The fact they made it so funny is astonishing.
The second series more so as it did away with the more sketch oriented first series.
Third series lost me but was inventive. Friends tell me I need to see again to appreciate it.

Yeah I was just staring with my mouth agape at this entire thing. The laughter made no sense as this just seems like a straight horror scene with a moment or two of absurdity

There’s no particular reason why this is funny, but it is. It’s the mark of good comedy, in my opinion.

Means 'without'. Like sans plomb (unleaded fuel) in France. While this is funny I think the laugh track was needed as a juxtaposition to the absolute weirdness you were seeing!
I've shown this to various men. So many of them didn't laugh. So many men I haven't seen again.

One of my friends husbands dressed up as papa lazarou for a Halloween party...he even put on the same voice....God it was creepy....but brilliant! He stayed in character the whole night!
