I'll be honest, I kind of clicked on the video link because of the Super Sentai preview image, but I'm-a go back and watch the rest of the series later today. You've re-awakened my desire to visit Japan, Kathleen and Graham!
Really loving the travel vlogs. You're really great at making it interesting to watch (granted, it's Japan, so probably not that hard, but still ). This is something I would really like to see more of from you guys. I understand that it's probably not feasible to make it a regular thing but I just wanted to let you know that it's top quality content nonetheless :)
I love that picture behind you at 6:17 when you're at the Toey Park. My uncle used to have that on the wall next to his toilet and my brother and I thought it was the most hilarious thing ever.
I appreciate that unlike the Phailhaüs times (RIP), G&K don't feel the need to trick us into seeing their vacation photos. They now trust us enough to present us with shiny, awesome vlogs instead!
haha, we went to that coffee shop in Nara. We thought prices for food were okay too, but Australia is also expensive so probably the reason. Hope you didn't try Asahi "green" (the 70% one) which basically tasted like it was 70% beer and 30% water.
Regarding the cost of food, that's something that is even more pronounced in China. There seems to be an entire parallel economy as restaurants are concerned. Sure, the big, tourist-focused places are criminally expensive, but your normal restaurant for locals is very, VERY cheap. It's interesting that Japan is similar in that regard, despite being a somewhat wealthier (on average) country. I'd also like to mention that these videos made me pick up my Japanese studies again. Thanks for that :)
I hope you visited Ōkunoshima. And if not, consider it for the next time you go. But, you don't have to tell me if you did or not, now. You can surprise me.
Wait, England was cheaper than Canada? You guys went to London, I met you there, BC must be super expensive. Japan also cheaper than England for basically everything too.
yeah, you tend to get a an 'unreasonable' number of red rangers (which is fine to call them btw) when your shows been going for 40 years :P and don't worry none of the others in that display have been adapted to power rangers, their in chronological order right to left back to front and zyuranger(mighty morphin' power rangers) was the first to be adapted
Starting to think we need a Patreon goal to specifically throw you and Kathleen into a country of your choice and have you film it. Patreon sponsored vacation of sorts. Would screw with LRR and other Bionic Trousers Media work though.
I think that'd also be fun with different pairs of people. Maybe cH-universe Beej and Alex go to Australia and just do whatever there. There is no way whatsoever that that can go wrong.
You'd be surprised. We talk about it later in the series but Akihabarals selection is really focussed to what's popular right now. There are specialty shops, but the selection is not as outlandish as I would've expected.
+loadingreadyrun true though it's understandable since it's technically a business district although us geeks like to think of akihabara as a holy site or something like that. older vintage stuff from series that's older then 4 years could only be found online, specialty places like mandarake or cons which is a little sad.
loadingreadyrun Having been to Hong Kong, I can only warn that ordering "Chicken Soup" has the possibility (not sure how it would translate cross-culturally between Hong Kong and Japan) of getting you a bowl of soup with a baby chick in it, basically fresh out of the egg. That was certainly an experience.
Sadly, I didn't record many of my other beer-ventures (I don't know what I was thinking, not keeping a tally), but there is SOME when we go into the mountains :)
I love all about this. Thanks for putting them up! Here's the obligatory annoying video nerd question: What was this shot on? (Some scenes look fisheye-ier than others: multiple lenses or fixing in post?)
Matcha is processed from specific varieties of green tea. It's like saying curds and cottage cheese are the same. Similar, same source, not quite the same.
I assume (though don't know) that BC is so expensive because you all pay hella taxes to pay for excellent social services. Also, I believe (with little evidence) that the entire Pacific Northwest is overrun with hipsters, and hipster eateries are naturally more expensive.
Japan definitely isn't expensive, aside from some of the hotels and fancy western restaurants. There's lots of very liveable places. But Tokyo can get super pricy, during specific times of the year. (And you can skip Tokyo, to be honest)
Toei Study park......you luck jerks the henshin history! Funny enough Japan redubs Power Rangers so yes they watch the Sentai then two years later rewatch it as Power Rangers. BUT KAMEN RIDER STUFF! I wanted to see that.
I was interested to find out that Japanese have no foods that are classified as "breakfast foods" like we do in North America. All foods are fair game at all times of the day apparently. Saying "breakfast for lunch" would make NO sense to a Japanese person lol
I absolutely adore this series.
Can I say I love the marmalade with 'Stark' written across it in bold.
I just came back from Japan Kyoto is awesome
man, watching these just reinforces my need to go to japan when i have enough time and money to do it
I really liked the editing on this, retrospective Graham taking us through the footage was really cool.
I'll be honest, I kind of clicked on the video link because of the Super Sentai preview image, but I'm-a go back and watch the rest of the series later today. You've re-awakened my desire to visit Japan, Kathleen and Graham!
Nice to see your day got a lot better after you went lost. You do great vlogs. Glad to see you keep doing them. Thank you for giving us inside looks.

Really enjoying this series!
I love this series.
I'm glad to see you had fun.
I don't know why but I'm in love with these videos, or at least the style of vlogs. You guys are very good at them. :)
These vlogs are awesome and the editing is super well done. Looking forward to more :D
Thank you!
good luck with Kyoto one of the biggest city's im that area and get ready for the rush hourus
Yeah, simple and fun. :D
Love this series!
Did you two get recognized by any Japan based LRR or Desert Bus fans on your journey?
I appreciate that unlike the Phailhaüs times (RIP), G&K don't feel the need to trick us into seeing their vacation photos. They now trust us enough to present us with shiny, awesome vlogs instead!
Looking forward to "Graham Drinks" episodes now.
8:50
that was Grendizer
OH WOW. Oops.
In my defence, the characters look very similar.
+loadingreadyrun its fine I guess since its grouped along with both Mazinger and great Mazinger
yaaas more vlogs!
I really liked Graham's shirt, the one he was wearing when he was drinking the beer.
Shot in the dark, anyone know where I can get one like that?
Did you try all the iced coffees in the vending machines there so good
I keep hoping to see you two 'singing' the intro like how 'segments' are done in Feed Dump.
haha, we went to that coffee shop in Nara. We thought prices for food were okay too, but Australia is also expensive so probably the reason.
Hope you didn't try Asahi "green" (the 70% one) which basically tasted like it was 70% beer and 30% water.
I did! And you're right, it was not great.

I bet you could totally just crowdfund a series two of G&K in X (read: get paid to go on holiday and document it again just like this)
;)
My experience in Kyoto: "Oh god, why am I walking in a bowl of soup! Where is the beer and/or AC? Oooh, okonomiyaki!"
Silly Graham, that's Grendizer, not Mazinger Z.
I hope you visited Ōkunoshima. And if not, consider it for the next time you go.
But, you don't have to tell me if you did or not, now. You can surprise me.
why didn't you show the 2 cats? :(
It was dark and they ran away :(
loadingreadyrun
so sad :(
Thank you for asking the important questions!
Wait, England was cheaper than Canada? You guys went to London, I met you there, BC must be super expensive.
Japan also cheaper than England for basically everything too.
They have school related Hello Kitty at random state universities in the US.
yeah, you tend to get a an 'unreasonable' number of red rangers (which is fine to call them btw) when your shows been going for 40 years :P and don't worry none of the others in that display have been adapted to power rangers, their in chronological order right to left back to front and zyuranger(mighty morphin' power rangers) was the first to be adapted
What are your tips/tricks as far as booking the actual flights? I'd love to go but it just seems so expensive for the flight alone...
Watch for cheap seats. I'm afraid that's all I can offer. We got lucky.
8:50 That's not Mazinger Z, silly Graham, it's Grendizer!
... I don't know why I expect you to know that...
How bright is the sun there? Would not be able to walk around in Australia without a decent hat and sunglasses in summer.
how do you guys get around japan without knowing japanese, or do you know it?
they learned it
Japan is INCREDIBLY easy for English-speakers. We tried to speak a bit, to be polite, but you don't need to know a damn thing.
+loadingreadyrun JAPAN HERE I COME
in Japan they make most of their students take english courses and it's been like that since we occupied them
mikhael hall but the thing is do most remember it to adulthood on a consistent level?

+Totally not a pineapple That could work. Totally not a recipe for disaster.
Of course not. I highly doubt Beej will try and catch a black widow to bring home and add to his pet spider collection.
+Totally not a pineapple And name it. Totally wouldn't happen.
you can get the anime stuff at akihabara though
You'd be surprised. We talk about it later in the series but Akihabarals selection is really focussed to what's popular right now. There are specialty shops, but the selection is not as outlandish as I would've expected.
+loadingreadyrun true though it's understandable since it's technically a business district although us geeks like to think of akihabara as a holy site or something like that.

Maybe the Japanese aren't as Nostalgia hung as we are?
They definitely are not.
This series has now made me rethink my views on people that take out their phones to take pictures/video of their food...
I don't do it often... mostly *only* on this trip actually. But DANG the food was good.
loadingreadyrun Having been to Hong Kong, I can only warn that ordering "Chicken Soup" has the possibility (not sure how it would translate cross-culturally between Hong Kong and Japan) of getting you a bowl of soup with a baby chick in it, basically fresh out of the egg. vlog of Graham just drinking different kinds of Asahi and reviewing them plz xD
Sadly, I didn't record many of my other beer-ventures (I don't know what I was thinking, not keeping a tally), but there is SOME when we go into the mountains :)

Is matcha not green tea?
Matcha is processed from specific varieties of green tea.
It's like saying curds and cottage cheese are the same. Similar, same source, not quite the same.
+loadingreadyrun thanks. well to me it's close enough.
Looks like a great time, where's Agatha Fisty?
Asahi premium is the shit!
I think Sentai and Digimon merch are licensed to bandai, so Toei maybe doesn't carry them.
I assume (though don't know) that BC is so expensive because you all pay hella taxes to pay for excellent social services. Also, I believe (with little evidence) that the entire Pacific Northwest is overrun with hipsters, and hipster eateries are naturally more expensive.
That is not mazinger z that is grendizer
Red Senshi
one of the red sentai mans had ear puffs. Why would the rangers need ear puffs on their suits?
Big like for saying football and not soccer :D

Graham "Inciting International Incidents by Making a Dinosaur Sad" Stark
"Unless you know what you're getting into you might be surprised by it"- kinda like buttsex.
Vending machines with beer, really cheap restaurants, and (probably?) healthier food. I'm suddenly feeling very sick of living in Canada.
Toei Study park......you luck jerks the henshin history! Funny enough Japan redubs Power Rangers so yes they watch the Sentai then two years later rewatch it as Power Rangers. BUT KAMEN RIDER STUFF! I wanted to see that.
nice fang joker you got there :)
silverword111
Its a photo of my S.H. Figuarts version actually so thank you!
ProfessM i cant afford dem shf. they break my wallet XD
silverword111
Yeah I really shouldn't buy them either. Stupid import costs.
Graham made the steam-spewing dinosaur head sad. That wasn't very nice, Graham.
I think you mean Soccer

I see you're spreading Marshall Sutcliffe's notions of value to all parts of the world.
Bring back Phailhaüs
These vlogs want to make me grab my girlfriend and pack my suitcase!
Well done!
Asahi Dry Premium tasting similar to standard Asahi? FITE ME IRL!
Same here
