I didn't watch this series when it first came out as I lived in Japan at the time and was a little Japan-ed out. Four years back in the UK, one Brexit and one pandemic later... this is very comforting and nostalgic to watch. Thanks as always!
I can't stand how a place known for it's longest continual urbanization is also so verdant. I love it. Probably cause I live in Calgary, where we enjoy prairie colours. Brown most of the year!
Yay! Philosopher's Path! I went there in April, it was so pretty with the cherry blossoms. Pro-Tip: Instead of going directly there to Ginkakuji, go to a major station (e.g. Kyoto Station) and go to the taxi stand, ask to go to Honen-in. It's a really nice little mossy temple next to the Philosopher's Path and cuts your walking time in half. You can walk south to Nanzenji, and walk even further on top of the Nanzenji aqueducts to get an awesome (and free) view of Kyoto. The end of the aqueducts leads directly to the Keage Incline which is abandoned railway tracks that are lined with cherry blossoms. Suteki! 🌸🌸
I love Graham's expression when he says "So we'll be back soon." at the end. That's the face of a man who is trying to convice himself that what he just said was true.
Fun Fact: Research indicates that crows communicate with each other very effectively, and have regional dialects, accounting for why they sound different in different regions. Crows are also capable of recognizing faces, and communicating those faces to other crows, so if you are particularly rude or kind to one crow, you can expect the rest of the murder to hear about it, and act accordingly. In conclusion, I like crows.
that's not actually how humidity percentages work 100% humidity means that the air is holding 100% of the moisture that it CAN hold given the altitude, temperature, air pressure, wind speed, etc. As such it is possible to have 100% humidity in winter, but the actual amount of water in the air is FAR less than 100% humidity in the summer.
Seeing views like 0:47 and 7:11 from a first person perspective gives me very wistful homesick feeling, tho' I've never been. Amazing video and love the music too!
Sometimes when I hear Graham talk about stuff he did I am reminded of some of the old LRR sketches where some guy explains where his name came from .. I forgot how those were called.
Fun fact: crows have regional dialects. Like, there may have been a different SPECIES of crow, which is why they may have sounded different, but crows actually have enough language that the way distant groups of them caw differentiates over time.
These videos are pretty cool. Maybe you should consider doing them more (and more often). Also, I've heard travel channels do very well on RUclips. (I really haven't, I'm just guessing.)
The Philosopher's Walk (哲学の道) is so-named because the influential 20th-century Japanese philosopher and Kyoto University professor Nishida Kitaro is thought to have used it for daily meditation. Wikipedia
If you are traveling and your Lodging as a shared fridge for all the inhabitants, you should mark your food, else someone might think its free and theirs for taking. Its the same if you are staying in youth hostels in Europe
I'm working in Tokyo at the moment and there are awful laughing/howling crow things outside my window all day every day. I find it doubly unnerving that nobody else reacts to them. Like, "yeah, bro, you're in hell. Why do you look so surprised? Didn't you know?"
Kathleen is so pale, she's like a beautiful porcelain doll. A beautiful porcelain doll that could probably knock me out if I said that to her face, but still.

A++ episode, incredibly relaxing.

I kinda feel like Graham should be the main character and narrator of a chill adventure game in the vein of The Longest Journey after this.

Oh hey, Arashiyama Bamboo forest. I remember going there after having great steak at a nearby home restaurant.
Thank you for sharing these videos!
Sometimes when I hear Graham talk about stuff he did I am reminded of some of the old LRR sketches where some guy explains where his name came from .. I forgot how those were called.
what is the music being used during the cemetery bit? its really relaxing
At 3:20 and onward during the bamboo forest.. what IS that song? It's beautiful. Very matching for the scenery.
I'm going to second this, would really like to know what music track that was.
I'd love to see you do one of these for London :)
Hope you have fun in Japan
We did! This was a year ago.
Through the magic of time!

Graham and Kathleen have to figure out what Japan is all about!
2:10 Don't kick the miniature Stonehenge replica? No Spinal Tap?
The Bamboo Forest! I thought you two said you went to Japan? XD
"This mausoleum has ventilation" is one of the most upsetting things I have ever heard.
Your vacation is now a business expense, hooray!
These videos are pretty cool. Maybe you should consider doing them more (and more often). Also, I've heard travel channels do very well on RUclips. (I really haven't, I'm just guessing.)

ルート説明のところ、凄い撮影技術・カメラワークですね、、・・・・^^。
Did I see G's pupils dilate when he drank that iced coffee? O-o
is it drugged?
Aye, with caffeine.
Huh, I wonder what Canadian crows sound like? Cause that one sounds the same as an Australian Crow. I thought all crows sounded like that.
I recognized Demachiyangi station...that makes me sad in multiple ways
Don't run on the stairs Graham! That's clearly the banister!
If you guys were to quit LRR and just spend your time travelling the word making chill travelogues I would honestly have no complaints.

Just curious why is your last name written on the yogurt, saw it in another video too?
If you are traveling and your Lodging as a shared fridge for all the inhabitants, you should mark your food, else someone might think its free and theirs for taking. Its the same if you are staying in youth hostels in Europe
Maik answered correctly-that's a shared fridge. That's why I told people to "step off my marmalade now" :)
Apologies from Boston for our subway system.
and our roads for that matter.
Nonsense. The Green Line is adorable and the roads interesting and functional. Grrr stupid grids...
I need an Iced cofee float in my life now.
I'm working in Tokyo at the moment and there are awful laughing/howling crow things outside my window all day every day. I find it doubly unnerving that nobody else reacts to them. Like, "yeah, bro, you're in hell. Why do you look so surprised? Didn't you know?"
Now I'm imagining some yatagarasu (three-legged hell-crow) flying by, crying "A-ho! A-ho!"
Okay so I don't wanna go to work tomorrow.
A++
You guys make me want money for a similar trip! :D
@loadingreadyrun. next time you wanna go hiking, bring a walking stick.
Those sound exactly like crows in central Virginia.
Many birds that are called crows are not really part of the same family.
Kathleen is so pale, she's like a beautiful porcelain doll. A beautiful porcelain doll that could probably knock me out if I said that to her face, but still.
That might have been a raven.
mmm, coffee boss.
Don't throw giant wooden sandals. I forget what thy are called.
Resident Evil crows.
