He's just an all-around fanatical POM hater. He probably thinks "Blurry" is whiny and the lyrics make no sense and hates the fact that it's just a three-chord sequence on a loop, and then of course there's Wes Scantlin's singing voice.
@@RiverOfWetness468 Wes Scantlin is a bad singer but the lyrics are about the rough side of divorce. It has a good memorable melody and nice harmonics which makes this song stand out. His voice is not so bad on this one. Blurry is the only song that I will defend from Puddle Of Mudd.
That whole album is great. Even She Hates Me is a pretty playful song, and putting it right after something like Blurry is a moment of brevity. Especially given how touchy Blurry is for a lot of people. They never did anything that good again but Come Clean is a great Post Grunge record.
Quick link to the list's Wikipedia article for those curious: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_Channel_memorandum For my part, the noted inclusions on the ban are: 1) Literally everything Rage Against the Machine. I mean, I know they're *very* left-leaning anarchic (and Tom Morello *definitely* is), but come the fuck on. 2) Cute romance songs from the 50's like "Johnny Angel". What, too *hopeful* for ya, Clear Channel? 3) "Bridge over Troubled Water". No affirmations of friendship and support in a time of trouble allowed here, I suppose. 4) "Get Together", aka the most lovey-dovey, hopeful hippie peace and cooperation song. 5) Cat Stevens. What the actual fuck.
It sounds like a dumbed down song, like the band is talking down to us, and being talked down to by the likes of Godsmack hurts. You can tell they can do better and they are choosing not to. Like they listened to the haters saying grunge, punk and metal were dumb, and decided to lean into that, but not in a way that respects fans of any of the genres.
I don't think that Staind and FFDP are worse than Godsmack, these bands at least had some qualities early in their career with stuff like Way of the Fist and War is the Answer being better than most of average bro metal for FFDP and Staind has Dysfunction, which I think is decent nu metal record overall. But if we talk about now, well I don't remember Godsmack being outright embarassing in the last years and they even have 1 or 2 songs from last record I sort of like, while FFDP made nothing but crap post their double album and Staind is, well, Staind is Staind, that's all I have to say
Funny thing I still like some Godsmack although their not my favorite anymore. It put a smile on my face when I saw you were doing this because I knew you were going to go off on the track. lol Keep doing what you do Crash love your stuff.
I hate Godsmack, but that one-note riff is groovy and aggressive as hell. That's why every "core" band breakdown in the later 2000's uses some variation of it. The main problem with that riff (and the band in general) is how much it rips off Alice in Chains, specifically Man in the Box's one-note riff. But without that context it's actually pretty catchy and easily the best part of the song.
Jacob Borg Yeah it’s actually kinda hilarious to look at the songs on the memorandum (at least the ones Crash showed on screen) and just imagine why they were on the list. Like: “Oh my god! A song called Fire!” Or: “Oh my god! At least four songs about Planes!” I mean it was probably understandable for the time, but it’s pretty ridiculous and funny in hindsight.
Godsmack has always sounded like a corporate/boardroom version of Disturbed too me (and I already find Disturbed pretty corny radio nu-metal anyway). With I guess the exception of Voodoo, which is a bad song but at least doesn't sound focus grouped.
I agree with your opinion on the Clear Chanel Memorandum. Given the logic they’re using there’s at least one song from each AC⚡️DC album (as if they needed my)
Same! I had buttrock radio on nonstop when Godsmack was coming up, never liked them but I've heard more than my fair share of Godsmack songs and they never played this lol
Might as well just get behind you on this except I didnt ever get that deep on this album. I was shocked it was on this album. Had a similar experience with "Home" by Staind because it sounds like it belongs better on Break the Cycle.
LOL This song used be my jam on ATV: Quad Power Racing 2 for Xbox when I was like 10. But looking back, the ENTIRE soundtrack for that game sucked! I was just too busy getting my ass kicked by NPCs in hard mode to really ponder the lyrics...
I'd like to go one further and say it's not even a chord. It's just root and 5th, with no other context that make it a proper chord. The octave roots don't contextualize it any. It's not a good caveman riff either. Compare it to the immensely simple Bolt Thrower riff in World Eater, where it just ascends and descends the first 4 notes of A Phrygian, then chugging on the lowest, palm muted string.
Thanks for this video Crash. Every time I play my guitar, bass, electronic drum kit I always feel like I never deliver to the most of my potential. This song makes ME look like fucking Eddie Van Halen!

THEY WANTED TO PULL WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD BY LOUIS ARMSTRONG AFTER 9/11!!!!!!!
Oh god, I can't believe I used to like this song... It was on the ATV Quad Power Racing 2 soundtrack, and I played the shit out of that game when I was a kid.
Huh, so Godsmack are the least douchy of the buttrock genre. In fact from what you've said they are actually one of the few nice ones out there lol.
It’s sad when Skillet did a song about abortion better (“Lucy”)
6:51 Considering the first album is legit just a re-release of their demo album, that's probably the case.
I'm looking at the Poll results and thinking; "Man, I am glad I finished my worst rock songs project". Guh, Shiny Happy People...
Godsmack were one of the first bands that got me into rock and metal, so I’ll always have a soft spot for them. This song though... it can go in the bin.
Idk what happened... I was watching crash Thompson’s video, bad religion was mentioned, I then went onto Amazon Music... and now I have all of bad religions catalog on my phone and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks Crash!
THEY DID A SEQUEL TO VOODOO?
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Voodoo too, electric boogaloo. How are you?
Every Godsmack tune: hrrrnnnyeeahhh GOooo AWayyyyy
BTW: Your accent sounds more like a Hyannis accent like the Kennedys.
0:06 I know puddle of mudd is not a good band but blurry is a good song. What do you have against it?
@@rawkguy4896 I like the singles off the album but I am not a fan of the rest of it.
Quick link to the list's Wikipedia article for those curious: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_Channel_memorandum
For my part, the noted inclusions on the ban are:
1) Literally everything Rage Against the Machine.
Oddly enough one reason I like When Legends Rise is because of the Vocal Change. It’s one reason I’ve never cared for Godsmack.
Hello Crash. What are your favorite bands? I like Green Day, Blink 182, Coldplay, and Pup(band) I like your videos.👍
I truly appreciate your videos, Crash. Big fan. Keep doing this!
I can only assume Ob La Di Ob La Da is on that list cause of the line "lalalala life goes on"... which is a stupid arse reason
At least they wrote lyrics that made sense. They also aged a lot better than godsmack
I saw Godsmack the first time they played in Chicago at a $5 New Music Tuesday, and man, I never thought they would blow up the way they did.
The way you articulate your hatred, and the editing are AMAZING. Excited to watch more videos. :)
I agree with your opinion on the Clear Chanel Memorandum. Given the logic they’re using there’s at least one song from each AC⚡️DC album (as if they needed my)
Never heard this song before and I’d like to go back to not knowing this exists.
Same here. It's like the musical equivalent of raw pancake batter.
Same! I had buttrock radio on nonstop when Godsmack was coming up, never liked them but I've heard more than my fair share of Godsmack songs and they never played this lol
What problem do you have with Flaw?
You have a good point here, but this video could have easily been half as long. There's not much to say about it
You should do an “I Love This Song” episode on “Bobcaygeon” by The Tragically Hip.
Bad Magick > Bad Religion
Though I like both songs, But Bad Magick is way better and has some powerful energy, As does most of the Awake album.
That diss on Become the Knight 🤣🤣🤣
Okay, slightly bothered by that quick diss on that Flaw track. That's such a bangeeeeer!
Dear GOD I did not know they made a sequel to Voodookie.
Oh my god. This is godsmacks “abortion is murder”
Love it even more now. Thanks dude!
Yeah, I've always got my music tastes through racing games.
Godsmack is great, i dont give a fuck about simplicity in power chords, is not like metalcore and thrash sounds the same every time.
"Fuck you Fetus, you suck!" - Crash Thompson, 2020
Say what you want about godsmack... their acoustic version of the song Spiral is amazing to my ears...
