BURNOUT FAIL! Ford Mustang GT Blows Clutch Leaving a Car Show

- This Ford Mustang GT took an attempt at showing off to the crowds whilst leaving Wheels Day 2013 held at Rushmoor Arena in the UK.
It didn't quite go to plan as he was bouncing off the rev limiter thinking he was doing a burnout he was actually slipping the clutch which led to a rather dramatic explosion as he pulled out of the junction!

Google Mustang burnout and you will see thousands upon thousands of mustangs doing burnouts with no issue. Not to mention ones that can burnout down a track at triple digits with no issue. I would place the blame on the, likely English, driver in this case.

It's pretty easy to destroy a clutch if you're not careful, Doesn't matter what make or model of vehicle. There's plenty of youtube videos of people burning up Corvette clutches (for example).
While in many cases this is a fact but not this one, his window is down and there is no give in the torque so you would imagine the natural response would be to stop accelerating, reset and let the RPM die and try again. He does not, this is like willful ignorance of someone running at full speed into a wall and not understanding why he did not pass through.

pretty much yes.... burnouts really don't harm the car that much (except the tires), it's guys like this that slip the clutch and break the clutch,tranny,engine and everything else.
If the clutch wasn't ruined, it was sure glazed by the 13sec mark.

This has nothing to do with the car. This guy just didn't know what he was doing. My guess is, he didn't turn the traction control off first. He also had to have been braking because of how slow he was moving. Good brakes + good traction control = no tire spin. Therefore he was putting way to much strain on his engine and transmission; something had to give. I think he either floated some valves or slung a rod based on the crap coming out of his exhaust. Not sure if he actually did any damage to the clutch. I've blown up a clutch before and that's not really what happens.

드래그나 드리프트 레이싱에서 새 슬릭 타이어를 꼈을때 반들반들 하니 표면을 갈아서 접지에 도움이 되게 하는 경우도 있지만 가장 큰 목적은 타이어의 최적의 온도로 높여 접지력을 높이기 위해서 하는데 부드러운 타이어는 85~105도 딱딱한 타이어의 경우 120~145도 사이가 접지력이 최고 효율이 나오는 온도이며 이 때문에 실제로 드래고나 드리프트경기에서 번아웃 시간을 따로 주기도 한다네요
(+FR수동의 경우 반클러치를 유지한 상태에서 저단 RPM을 한껏 올려주면 바퀴가 헛도는데, 이를 이용하여 뒷바퀴를 미끄러뜨려 드리프트도 할 수 있음)

Can some1 explain how you actually do a burnout? Does the car need a certain amount of Horsepower to provide wheel spin?
Apply brake, step on the gas. Difficult in a manual but manageable.
Its really not all that hard to do especially with a mustang, this guy just sucks at life.

The basis of how you do one is relatively simple. All you are doing is trying to get the rear tires to spin while having the front tires hold the car in place. To do this you come to a stop, depress the clutch and bring the revs up a bit. Then you release the clutch and it is a balancing act between the brake and gas pedal.
Too much brake or not enough throttle will make the rear tires stop turning, which essentially means your clutch will be slipping and then is destroyed (this is what happened in this video)
Not enough brake not too much throttle means the front tires will begin rolling and the car will begin moving.
Jesus Christ you people suck at explaining this... To do a burnout in a vehicle with a manual transmission you need to start from a dead stop in first gear. Put the clutch ALL the way down. (Some people let the car roll forward slowly) Get your engine spinning, not too fast, not too slow. Pop the clutch and mash the brakes and from there it's a matter of knowing when the tires are spinning and when they aren't and adjusting the brake/gas.
Djsand1000 And in this poor fellows case, disabling the traction control may be a good plan too. There must be hundreds of "burnout gone wrong" videos that all stem from the operator not disabling the traction control.

I'm with you - currently own a 16 GT350 and had a Boss 302 Laguna Seca and a 700hp GT500 - multiple track events (road circuits) and not one burnout. It's lame.
This is a perfect example of the stupidity of burnouts. They serve two purposes. Reduce the life of your drivetrain and make immature people think they are really doing something awesome.
