Think part of the reason it didn't get as much attention as it maybe should have is they guessed a fair bit. I've spoken to a dozens of Vietnam Veterans as I'm currently working on a Vietnam War Documentary Series and have been interviewing dozens of them... and to quote a number of them it was "stupid, offensive and ignorant"
A few things all of them pointed out is soldiers with rolled up sleeves, insubordination of orders and the soldiers never looking down at where they were walking, were oversights that made it unrealistic to them. Patrols would always walk in a straight line, stepping in each other's footsteps because of the mine threat. Over half of Australia's Vietnam casualties were caused by M16 landmines the Vietcong had stolen from them, so walking in each other's footsteps was something that every patrol did. The movie showed patrols walking in spread out V shaped patterns which maximizes casualties in the event of a mine incident.

@@altoburger9692 Ok not every military detail is perfect, but movie makers always get some of it wrong and create extra drama, to me the important aspect was that it was well acted, the story is good and mostly accurate, the scenes seemed mostly realistic and the sentiment of what happened was depicted well, the only reason it's underated is because it's an Australian movie, that often happens, but it's also had critical acclaim so there you go.

I just saw this gem of a movie for the second time, this movie really hits you. I don't think I've ever seen such beautiful shots of combat as in here (how paradoxical "beautiful" may sound given it's war) but what an elegant use of slow motion. This makes you care about each man in that crater, and as for the ones who had went ahead the uncertainty of loss just kills you inside. This is one of the most well-rounded war movies I've seen in a while, it focuses on many aspects of combat not just the infantry, but everything that plays a role, the artillery, the air support, the toughest tactical decisions. The roll call is painful to watch. This movie is an instant favourite. If you loved Letters from Iwo Jima (for me the best war movie ever made) and you loved Platoon, I know the comparison is not immediately obvious but you will love this one just the same.

I wasn’t sure I’d like this in the beginning as it’s difficult to watch a Vietnam film these days without Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket and alike, in your head.
    But...
I found myself quickly liking the characters, getting tense and very emotional watching it. A tough subject well acted and a very tasteful and respectful homage to those soldiers actually lost in this horrific battle.
5 star film in my opinion.

It's a great movie, I wasn't thinking of those other movies at all as this an Australian perspective, and some of those American ones are great too but this is just more familiar to me and a different situation and battle, it also is indicative of the ANZAC spirit where they fought against the odds as underdogs, that concept is very Australian.

Easily one of the best flicks in a long time. Major Smith was correct in ignoring orders to return to base and instead tracked down and rescue his cut off troops despite risking the lives of all Delta company members.
Erwin Rommel did not do the same in one particular WW2 engagement in North Africa for a similar small number of men cut off and his reputation among the rest of the army suffered greatly thereafter.

I can tell that a lot of the perspective in this movie came from Harry. Pretty accurate, he wouldnt have let them do it any other way. Except the over played drama bits between soldiers, that didnt happen. After it was over a lot of the forest was felled, there was bodies and bits in the tops of the trees. General Westmoreland came to inspect the battle scene. He asked the diggers who were the same as in the battle if they needed help cleaning up the battle site, And the Aussies said Nah its right , we'll handle it

many of the extras were recently returned Afghanistan veterans and several Delta Company veterans were on-set for the filming. From reading the Producers Blog (himself ex-ADF) they had to make certain tactical compromises from 'real life' due to the nature of filming, field of view of cameras etc

My partner and I had the honour and privilege to have a private visit to Nui Dat and Long Tan in 2018. Our guide was a most informed, interesting, insightful and respectful Vietnamese man. We could understand if he held an unconscious and subtle bias against Australians visiting but alas he had no such demeanour. Before leaving for Nui Dat, we observed him making any number of planning phone calls prior to our departure for Long Tan and on arriving at the local Long Tan People's Committee Office, he asked for our passports so that he could obtain the necessary permits for us to visit the cross. Local authority permission must be obtained to visit the cross and that is what all the phone calls were seeking to achieve. As he left the People's Committee Office and was returning to our vehicle, i could see he was holding some papers and a bouquet of yellow flowers. As he rejoined us he informed that the papers were the necessary permission and that the flowers were for my partner and i to place at the cross. What i never anticipated or expected was for him to hand to me the brass memorial plaque, which we would hang on the cross on our arrival. I will never forget driving from the Long Tan People's Committee Office to the cross with the brass plaque sitting on my lap. I felt a great sense of duty, responsibility, humility and respect. The local Peoples Committee do not allow the plaque to be fixed to the cross so that it is held safely, respectfully and securely. Respect to all on both sides of this battle, may we now be and remain friends evermore. Lest We Forget 💐

OMG it was! this was filmed 12-13 mins from where I live! That place they are pinned down in is NOT in Long Tan (or whatever its called) its a "Tree Farm" in QLD Australia 12-13 mins from where I live & I remember driving past seeing about 100 Trucks & soo many cars as it was closed off for filming, even weirder this Tree Farm is right alongside the Main Highway & is only about 600x500 meters big! So I have no idea how they did it, u will probably see me driving past as they never closed off the highway to my knowledge & one side of this tree farm is only about 3 meters from the actual highway itself. We also have the WORST Highway in Australia so its a pity this didnt draw attention & get the government to fix the damn roads!!

He did hacksaw Ridge on 8 million less.

Disappointing that this movie wasn't given the promotion it needed for the decent budget it was given and the story that it is.

Despite that, you still get some reviewers complaining, and some are fair points, but you can tell with a few that they hate the film because it didn't sufficiently grovel about how horrible we were in the war.

I googled this movie and it shows
NO MOVIES SHOWTIMES For The Entire Chicago Illinois USA Metropolitan Area (almost ten million people), on its US Release Date of this Friday, Nov. 8th, 2019...
UPDATE: Friday 11/08/19: Possibly the US Release date of "Danger Close" was pushed back to not directly compete with the US Release of the movie "Midway" today
(if so, that seems like a pretty good idea to me). If so, a google search needs to show the new US release date. Thanks.
UPDATE: This Danger Close movie was already available for digital purchase in the US on Saturday 11/09/19, only one day after its scheduled US opening in theaters... And still no US showtimes that I could find (not a surprise if it has been released for digital purchase)... So Something Happened.

“I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I
served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man
for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.”
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the
defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
    GENERAL Smedley Butler
