Im torn btw going this route or just getting a saturn and fully modding it... idk which one to choose... the saturn has most of the hits of the cps2 but the cps2 may run the games better with more frames and better graphics... mainly i dont understand about the supergun and the power supply... any advice?
In a nutshell, a supergun is a device that will adapt the video, audio and control signals from a JAMMA arcade board to a living room setup. It converts video signals to something that can be viewed on a consumer TV or monitor, converts audio levels, and provides a way to hook up either standard or custom controls. Some superguns have analog RGB output only, and some have a wider selection of video outputs. Some people use superguns with other kinds of video scalers and converters as well, such as the Extron, OSSC (Open-Source Scan Converter) or RetroTink. Powering the supergun and arcade board is another concern, as you pointed out. If you poke around the Arcade-Projects forums you will probably find threads talking about power supplies to use with various superguns and arcade boards. Some people have adapted PC power supplies, while most people tend to go with PSUs made for arcade hardware or other kinds of small industrial power supplies. To my mind one of the more tricky parts of supergun setup is player controls, depending on what controls you have on hand or plan to use. You will need to adapt an existing or custom arcade stick or gamepad to the connector style that your chosen supergun uses, which may involve pre-made adapters or soldering skills to make a custom cable. Setting up a CPS-2 setup and a supergun is going to be a much bigger project than getting a Saturn, arcade stick(s) and all of the fighting games you want to play. But in the end it is a fun project. It all depends on your technical aptitude, time frame and willingness to learn new stuff.
I've been out of the loop on the latest Darksoft products, but what's the difference between the Champion Edition and the original ones released years ago? I have the original one and I'm curious if I'm missing anything that might be worth an upgrade.
Hi Brandon! Sorry for the delayed reply. Good question and I did some research. Functionally both versions are the same however the difference lays in the installation and hardware itself. Here are the notes from the installation guide. I think this is the only real difference. Overview - • Thanks kindly for your purchase of the Darksoft ‘Champion Edition’ CPSG2 Multi Kit. Functionally, this kit is identical to previously released kits, however the installation process has been streamlined and is now a lot simpler! • There is no longer a need to be concerned about jumpers, replacement PAL chips or running a jumper wire to the PAL. There is also no longer a need to modify the original case in any way, and for most users, key writing wires are simply connected via one cable.
Antes de instalar esto, prefiero emular, ya que pierde la gracia de tener la PCB arcade, lo veo mas parecido a un tv box con emuladores cps1 y cps2. es mi humilde opinion.
That's an option for sure. And much less expensive. The up side is this kit is 100% Capcom HW and SW. The Twin Galaxies have even approved it for competition high score ranking. Thanks for the great comment. Emulation vs original HW and SW is a tough choice sometimes.
@@cosmemod1820 I understand you and agree. Emulation is not the same. Some is better than others but it's like you said, lag, frame rate issues, color issues and sometimes major SW rework. That's why I work on original parts.
Great video mate very informative and interesting 👍🏻
Thanks man!!

Y cual es la gracia de tener una PCB arcade, segun usted?
@@user02573 La gracia de tener una PCB arcade es jugar al juego como dios manda, en el hardware original.
