Glad I found this video I am an Air Force veteran who served in the early-mid 80s. Do currently use the VA medical system in my city and hoping to get coverage for my wife.

We did all the paperwork 2x. 2 years ago and again this year. Both times veteran was denied. His neurologist reports he is 5 for 5. What ever that is. Even though I have to help him with dressing, his hygiene etc. He doesn't drive I have to take him to all appointments and handle the financial aspect of our household. I had to quit my full time job to care for him. At this point we will have to wait for his neurologist appointment to speak about these issues. He has been given the run around being diagnosed with seizures, then changed to tremors then changed to Parkinson's then non Parkinson's, back to tremors.

We got denied cause I’m not bed ridden. But, my husband does 98% for me .

Don't have to be. They deny so many people that shouldn't be denied

Are you sure that wasn’t under Aid and Assistance? I know for that program you basically have to be house bound and bed ridden but for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) the rules are different.

I was on Caregiver pay for 6 years and then they kicked me off. My husband has ptsd and tbi and won't ever get better. I don't have to dress him, but I do follow behind him and make sure he doesn't catch the house on fire.

Thank you for all U do 4 us. The concerns I have. I'm 100%P&T, Sleep Ap 50%. I've deteriorated, and am now disability early retired from Federal Service also. I'm home bound. I know doing a claim for an SMC-S can trigger reviews, so to scared to go for these. There are two other VA Social Services programs I was informed about, and am researching. 1-VA Caregiver Program, and 2-Veteran-Directed Care. What I can not find out is, will either of these programs trigger a compensation review? Secondly, IF a comp review occurred, with the incoming changes to Sleep Apnea, could it be possible my sleep Ap could go to 10%, as I was rated in the study as moderate, and with continuous CPAP used, getting close to the lower limit of none breathing episodes.

@@smason3541 Apologizes, but you are incorrect. Any new claim CAN reopen past approved claims. That IS well known, even after the 55 year old rule, and when listed as static (P&T). Vets call this "poking the bear"

@@smason3541i wouldn’t poke that bear if I were you. There’s a saying in the stock market that closely reflects this one adage too: “pigs get fat but hogs get slaughtered!” If you are genuinely assured you have a solid claim for SMC related compensation, then maybe go ahead and apply and risk opening a re-evaluation of all existing prior claims; but if there’s any shred of doubt, it’s best to leave it all well enough alone.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought as of October 1, 2022, veterans who served before September 11, 2001, are eligible for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). The VA expanded eligibility to cover veterans of all eras through the VA MISSION Act of 2018.
