    The VA holding “in-home” assessments (clinician visit) sounds like a form of warrant-less search (or an episode of House where the doctors search and seize items for a patients home.

    Who benefit more in this program? The veteran who received the care and ADL or the Caregiver that get compensated for the services rendered to the veteran. Eligibility of the veteran depends on the CEAT decision and the veteran’s preference of his choice does not have any weight at all when it comes to the selection of caregiver. The disability ratings of the veteran should be the basis and not the subjective choices of the coordinators.

    Good luck to anyone applying. After being my husbands caregiver since 2014 I was just kicked off the program. They said because my husband could somewhat function on his own that he didn't meet the NEW criteria. She then told me that "It use to be due to service, but now service has been taken out of it." I asked her to clarify and she couldn't. My husband is 90% going for his last 10% this year. This news is a slap to his face, his words not mine. He said, "Basically Im not in a vegetative state so..." and then we were told we could appeal the decision. We are going right back into the era of all wounds are physical. Trust me my husband is physically disabled as well, IED in Iraq in 2006, but I guess that doesn't count. Absolutly rediculas.

      @@lynnchaney5912 That is verry unfortunant, but the new rules make it so being my husbands caregiver (as I have since 2011 when I had to quit work to look after him after an attempted incident) is like nailing jello to the wall with a nail. I have only been on the care giver program since 2014, so I spent three years out of work. Now it looks like I either have to not work again or explain to a new employer that I may have to leave work to take him to appointments, I'm only running on 3 hours of sleep due to nightmares, he can't feel one of his legs again so I have to help him around for a few days, etc. As I said, when I asked why, and the answer was "They are taking the service connection out of it." I nearly lost my temper.

      @@lynnchaney5912 Okay well that’s them and I’m sure they investigated to find that out. Don’t just take someone off a program and not investigate first. The excuse that one person messes it up for others is BS because there should be something in place like a checklist to find out if someone is really needing the program or not. If all evidence is there, how is it right to take someone off a program unless they were able to prove otherwise.

    They have all of the veterans medical records they should base it on the injuries sustained and consequences due to those injuries, to make a decision weather the vet needs a caregiver or not..They make caregivers jump through so many hoops just to kick them out and making them feel like perhaps their answers is what got them kicked during the assessment. It's B.S I will be getting a reassessment the 24th and the lady who called to schedule the appointment was rude and short when I asked questions, already set the tone for how the assessment will go.

      I'm sorry this was a sad assessment for your Veteran and self as a caregiver. I do understand that there's a number of questions and Veteran's need, including their service connect health conditions. Please keep in mind, each Veteran's conditions can change from their last intake. They are merely trying to keep records updated and as a caregiver...you're the closest person to that Veteran that can help them answer those questions and keep them on track with their health and having a caregiver by their side not only for companion, but for health management, mental stability and well-being.
      If you feel like you've both been disrespect....report immediately to their supervisor. Be your Veteran's advocate. Keep your patience and calm. Your Veteran is counting on you as a caregiver. This is one job that is over and beyond. Thank you for helping our Veterans.

    I can say under the new rules, it is difficult to obtain for the older vets. My spouse is 100% and now undergoing cancer treatment for the second time. We have neither been able to get the caregiver assistance nor housing assistance while in Houston at MD Anderson. Florida is horrible for getting approved for anything, period. Tried to refile for appeal and was suggested to wait until we came back from cancer treatment. I mean really.
    We fought the VA initially for almost 10 years to get to this point. Had to leave Florida, filed in Alabama and was approved.

    • @cashonly6117
      @cashonly6117 3 года назад +6

      @@jeremyjohns3241 Actually it does. We have had several different entities to assist with his claim and never accomplished a damn thing. Rolled over into the next state and was approved.
      The same is said for the caregiver assistance. I specifically questioned this and was informed they have a more difficult time in Florida. I am a 60 percenter and I had to fight just to make it to 30. Refiled in Alabama and moved up to 60. So this is my experience. I did not file in the same places as my spouse did, so like I said this is my experience. The ideology I have seen in Florida is that people are all retirees and just come to die in their old age. It took me 10 years of meaningless jobs to finally land back as a GS employee and I had to leave the state of Florida for that too. Here where I am it's still who you know, not your credentials.

      Unless you want the rug ripped out from under your feet expect this program to hound you ruthlessly until you give in or quit!! I have been assigned a caregiver (Tier 2) for almost 2 years and qualified under the program when I entered. Quarterly appointment, check ins , no missed appointments then suddenly this NEW program that don't give a FK kicks me and my caregiver out. Evidentially under the new criteria OLD vets don't always qualify! BULLS*&T! if you qualified once why would a program provide you the daily care you need then suddenly because of "Covid" and the need to phone / video chat cancel your benifits after 2 years?!?! No wonder 22 a day quit!! F*&K THIS !!!

So get this, he qualifies for them to send a caregiver and he qualifies for Medicare to come in and take care of him under the same ADL rules, but we don't qualify for me to take care of him. We live somewhere where your lucky if you get a qualified caregiver under either program. If you do get someone, they quit or move on to a more lucrative area, or always calling in sick or whatever the eff excuse is available. I've been his caregiver for 7 years now with no assistance. So Kiss my a#%# and pi$$ off VA.

Or does it mean the vet can only do 2 appeals total, no matter the avenue (supplemental claim/higher level review/appeal to the board of veterans/clinical review process with veterans health administration)?

      @@Leela1210 I recently got kicked as well..it is unfortunate that the person that conducted the review/interview was very unfamiliar with the care my veteran needs and is very new to the job. My veteran can't cook his meals, has sleep issues that keeps both of us up, is unable to walk, unable to drive , has seizures, unable to manage his own medication, thrives in constant pain to where he has suicidal thoughts, falls from time to time and has bipolar that was aggravated by his injuries. He's 100 percent disabled just for legs. When my husband experiences his manic episodes its very dangerous to the point where he gets violent, wheels out the door and tries to enter the road, tries to start fights even while in the vehicle. It's awful at times. I've been a legacy and they recently kicked me. My husband is unable to be left alone...he cant cook for himself and to top all of this off our son is nonverbal autistic so I have to make sure things stay as quiet as possible so my veteran doesn't get angry, you can also expect things to break fall or even the vet to fall...I guess im suppose to just go to work though and pray my husband doesnt down a bunch of pills, fall out of his chair with no one to assist him up, cook his own meals and hopefully he doesnt burn our house down because he forgot to turn the burner off... have a seizure and go into kidney failure again, oh yea and lets not forget he's in a medication change which either makes him sleep all day and I am only able to wake him for brief periods of time and also makes him dizzy. I've been on the phone regularly with his doctors. But what this all comes down to is the va is taking this program away to save money so they don't have to put vets into a nursing home. I want to get in contact with the legacy participants that are being kicked from the program knowing that they still will be unable to work due to the care their veteran needs. please contact me because we are our husband's/wive's advocate and they need a voice. This post 9/11 purge needs to stop. I've been on this program since 2013 and been at the highest tier. We have already been through the compensation and pension and that was years ago. Does this mean he will need another compesation and pension exam? I do have so many questions since this seems to be the va going backwards instead of forwards...us legacy shouldn't have to be going through this and then to hear we are here for you we care...Do you? If you really cared would you be making us go through this again and even worse being wrongfully removed from this program..My vet 100 percent disabled and unemployable and it even states in his "award" he is a danger to himself and to others.. I'm angry , stressed and frustrated. It took weeks for my decision to come through its almost as if it was already set to remove the legacy participants...so here's a great question ..how long will it take this CEAT to make a decision and are they really looking at the records? or just wanting us legacy to just give up? I'm not giving up. Please contact me if this is what has happened to you. We need to stick together in this.

    This program is the biggest bunch of BULLSHIT the VA has ever come up with. My veteran is 100 P & T, and due to progressive effects of TBI, I have to do things for him like prepare meals due to safety (he forgets to turn burners off, burns food, etc), I have to order, organize, and administer his medications, and I have to manage all the finances. These are just SOME of what I do. The man has over 1600 pages of VA documentation, mostly mental health records. However, we have been denied TWICE for this program. It's all truly subjective, and being determined by fucking social workers. It's absolutely humiliating to go through the process. 98% denial rate is NOT helping Vets!!
