  • We recently visited the Maryland State Police Aviation Command. Operating a fleet of 10 Leonardo AW139s, the Maryland
State Police Aviation Command flies medevac and
search-and-rescue missions - on top of its law enforcement
function - to help the protect citizens of the Mid-Atlantic state. We had the opportunity to sit down with pilots and troopers from the command to learn more about their missions, including the launch of their whole blood program back in May 2023.

I proclaim today #NationalPrayerDay in Maryland.
Marylanders cherish our heritage of religious freedom and the power of prayer to strengthen bonds of understanding, tolerance, friendship, and unity among all people.

If my memory is still good, I recalled that the MD Aviation unit has a history of the first police helicopter to arrest someone on the ground. One helicopter flew, landed around a suspect in the field, the pilot or co-pilot jumped out of the chopter and arrested the suspect.

I've worked with MSPAC Trooper 5 many times and they're pretty cool. Where I am in WV, it's quicker to have them fly in than the state's Healthnet helicopters

Since government operated, are medical services free of cost to the patient?

“ Off the ground in 10 minutes.” While they are on standby ?? Unless I’m missing something, I’d hope they would be able to get off the ground quicker than that

So how it works is, from the fire ground to our dispatch center, to SYSCOM, the helicopter gets a pre-alert, SYSCOM does checks of, hospitals, closest helicopter, weather, flight conditions and much more. So 10 minutes is very quick.
