But it doesn't seem very professional, seems like something your aunt would bring on a field trip to take snapshots of everyone/thing. I find it easier to see everything that is going on through a viewfinder. Especially when it's very sunny and I can't hardly see the screen
I'm getting this just to convert for infrared. this is like, perfect. A camera with full live view, Flippy screen, and the entire Nikon lens catalog. I think this camera has a lot of potential
Dude this review is so awesome! I also really appreciate that you used it as your studio camera and took it around. Also nice that you labeled the R5 camera shots, it just helps so much comparing cameras. Thank you.
Diggin' it! Love my Z50 but I would definitely bring the Z30 around more since it definitely looks a lot more compact compared to the Z30 when I'm doing videos. I really like that they FINALLY made a camera for content creators. If it still has the same sensor as the Z50/Zfc, image quality is still definitely there. Thanks for the video!
I have z50 in my job (I work for a town and we use it to shoot all things we need, like festivals, buildings and shit), but I am really looking for camera for my ASMR channel. This looks really good for that. 🤔 Especially that 120 minutes record time.
Nikon hit it out of the park with this one. Good on them! Now if only they could release an updated Z6 with reliable Eye-AF, that would be great. I love my gen1 Z6, but I do depend on manually setting the focus point a little too much.
I bought this camera last week for my roommate to shoot her content. I specifically bought it because of the flip screen, my D5300 has one and I think every camera should be so equipped. When I got it home and started playing with it I found it has a lot of features that my D780 has, we have had a lot of fun with the built in filters. She works as a go-go dancer and the girls at the club are booking shoots already. I definitely bought more camera than I bargained for. Thank you Nikon, you are giving people an affordable option to the crappy cameras on cell phones.
I’m a pro photographer, I shoot through the screen and not the viewfinder. I don’t think I’m any less professional because of it, the opposite… I can see what happens near me and react for this. Since I switched to shoot with the screen my pictures got better because I can also interact better with the people in front of the camera. My shots are still steady and sharp.
Yeah, I'm not a pro, but the bigger the view screen, the easier the comp. Also, I shoot mountains and forests, and they are famously ambivalent towards a photographers stance...
This guy isnt a pro nor was he in the past - he's just a youtuber pretending to have some industry experience - he doesn't. Its perfectly acceptable to use the rear screen
See the viewfinder is more of a security check in both balance and taking on horrendous bright settings. If you slap on a 600 mm 2.8 prime for wildlife and need to be on the move constantly in the Amazon your gonna want to keep as steady as possible and hold the camera in a way that balances with your whole body in tough terrain.
@Mark Shirley - Fro is professional through and through. It is like saying that a guy is not a fro because of the gear he is using. Fro can teach many pros.
Oh that plus when you hold it to your eye you can't do minor adjustments as you could with holding it away from your body and using your arm to giving it that much better composition.
Thanks Jared! Nice review! I'm getting this for the flip out screen. Love my Z9 but does not have flip out screen for vlogging so I'll use the money saved from not getting the A1 and get the Z30. I also get a free vlogging camera, extra body, and ability to use my FF Z lenses is a plus.. .love Nikon!
I just bought this to replace my ZV1. Not much bigger (my ZV1 has the necessary Ulanzi stick on lens and cage), it weighs the same, and the image quality is absolutely fantastic. The stabilisation is fine also with the kit lens on. The low light performance on this camera is awesome. I also take a lot of stills and this is a brilliant stills camera. I don’t need an EVF. The camera performs amazingly well on the auto setting as well straight out of camera. I also was not expecting the autofocus to be as good as Sony but it’s not far off and no issues there either. It’s just been reduced in price and if you are in the market for a small form factor camera, perhaps for travel, it is really hard to beat now.
@@anjakatinic4297 I haven’t tried pushing it to its limit in that scenario but if you see the video I did on my channel reviewing it, I was out with it for 4 hours, and of course took more, and it had a half battery left. I’m new to photography and I’m struggling finding a mirrorless camera to get started with but your videos are certainly helping! Would love some recommendations for beginner mirrorless cameras if possible!
As Nikon shooter for years, in my opinion it's a perfect camera to mount it on gimbal, plus tiltable screen which is plus one, fast in autofocus, phenomenal image quality, for the price it has lots of benefits, I'm looking forward to invest in one.
Great video thank you - my new Z30 arrived this week and will be starting to get to grips with it - my first mirrorless camera and amazed on the size and weight compared to my D7500!
Oh sweet back handed compliment for once. Why don’t you just say it “usually you’re biased and I hate your opinions, this time I agree with you bedside you said nice things that didn’t hurt my feelings”

good callout on EVF and IBS. new to cameras and thinking a nice camera would be an upgrade from a smartphone, so the marketing info on the sensors was interesting. thanks for the video- very helpful.
9:45 About the the lens for vlogging Nikon had a 12-28mm DX wide-angle zoom lens on their road map for about a year now. My assumption is that lens will be released same time as the Z30 because this will be marketed as vlogging first content creator camera for all social medias. My hope is they will offer the standard zoom or the wide angle zoom in a kit and hopefully it will have vr as well be the go to vlogging set up for Nikon shooter's. So keep your ears open Nikon shooter's this mirrorless world is expanding for us.
ive been looking at this camera for a couple months now. im likely pulling the trigger this summer. QUESTION..My office is a 14x14 room. Will the 16mm give me enough room to get my full body in there? I workout and do videos and also play drums. So just need to make sure its going to have me covered?..Thanks for the help.
How is auto focus? My Sony ZV1f autofocus is lock-blur, lock-blur and frustrating as anything. I think Nikon will be my best bet with phase detect. What's your opinion on the autofocus?
I'm assuming nothing stops this being used as a stills camera for someone upgrading from a small point and shoot? Point and shoot and iPhone shooters are already used to not using the eye viewfinder.
Ok, Why are you skating with a goalie mask on? I also like the EVF, I don't like shooting with the screen. That is one think that is confusing. If the lens in a DX lens 16-50mm, then why is it actually 24-75mm. I understand that if it is FX lens, then there is conversion, but why is there a conversion with DX lens? If I put the DX lens on Full Frame Nikon camera, then the Z camera with adjust to DX format. I upgraded my DSLR APC-S to a Z full frame camera.
all lenses put on a Nikon DX camera will have a 1.5X crop factor. so 16-50mm DX lens on DX camera will be 24-75mm full frame equivalent focal length. and 16-35mm FX lens on DX camera will be 24-52mm full frame equivalent focal length. putting a 16-50 DX lens on a full frame camera will also automatically give the 1.5 crop to 24-75. but putting a full frame FX lens like 16-35mm on a full frame camera has no crop by default so you get the original 16-35mm, unless you purposely switch the full frame camera to DX APS-C mode which will become 24-52mm by using only the center of the sensor (good for simulating telephoto by cropping)
@@Damon_Mah Damon thanks for getting back to me. I understand what you are stay that it is equivalent to 24-75mm. My only question is why call it 16-50mm, when the equivalent is 24-75mm. I read that before about other cameras and lenses, but I don't why they make a DX lens, when it isn't actually the real focal length. Maybe it is the price. It seem you can put a full frame (FX) lens on the same and get the same results, and make 100% sense. But not for a DX lens. Maybe it is just me.
I found it interesting you criticized the grip being on the "wrong" side for a vlogging camera but guy put it on a grip handle when he used it. Which is what you would expect a clogger to do. This might be my next camera
Are there any indicators on a new cropped Nikon with IBIS any time soon? My z50 is in the shop (for the dumb LCD cable design) and I’m wondering if i should pay the $$$ to fix it or consider switching systems if IBIS won’t be here for a few more years. Any ideas?
what about a screw mount on its side to film vertical without the need for an L bracket? that would've been smart Edit: one more thing Jared... i don't feel quiet the same as you when speaking about shooting stills from the screen instead of the evf. You can cover a lot more angles holding the camera away from you (and change faster from one to another), and you can check the composition in other ways allowing you to be more creative. Pie Jirsa sometimes relies on that and you wouldn't say he seems amateurish. Just give it a thought and try it out, you may be surprised
The best argument for an EVF for stills is blocking ambient light. Sure, you can get a lot of angles, but it's not fun making educated guesses through glare on sunny days.
High / low angles are generally the only time I'll shoot with the display screen (and I shoot low quite a lot). Personally I see things a lot more clearly in the EVF, and I'm more focused mentally. I think Jared's mainly referring to shooting with the screen most of the time at normal angles - it's just not a good look in front of clients generally speaking. And with certain subjects / environments it's a huge disadvantage (sports and wildlife action for example). Interesting topic to discuss and really, no right or wrong here.
@@tr_murf4399 who said anything about shooting through the lcd under sunlight? Besides, i'm not gonna let a potentially good high angle photo escape from an oportunity just because "it's not fun making educated guesses". Just take more shots the same way you do when panning, no big deal
@@csc-photo ye i'm with you, no right or wrong. And, of course, the evf is way better to check what you're doing, but there's places it can't bring you. It's not that usefull when in need for high and low angles, discreetness, complicated positions (like in macro, for instance), etc. And yes, no one would find more usefull to use the lcd when using a tele for sports and wildlife. I'm JUST saying... don't rant about it, consider it might be more usefull than you think, and please try it in situations you would'nt think it'd work because you may surprise yourself
@@csc-photo oh, and about looking stupid... how professional do i look flexing knees, head crouched, all myself hidding behind a tiny camera as if i was about to shoot a rifle, when i only pretend to take a photo any phone could match? like "wtf this guy's doin??" You can't afford to look ridiculous too xD
Not having a viewfinder was a great decision for a camera in this class, allowing a better form factor to fit in small bags and large pockets. More likely for people to carry around and still have similar experience to a phone but with better ergo. A great step forward in appealing to beginners.

So, I finally came around to watch this review and the only thing I didn't get an answer to was, what lens do you use on that studio R5? When we see the cameras from behind, like at 13:36, the Canon says 1/50 shutter speed and F1.0 7/8 (I guess) is the aperture. What is up with that?
is there any dynamic zoom (called in Panasonic, also called clear image zoom in Sony) and digital zoom? Can we extend the power zoom lens to limit using the control on lens follow by extending the camera built in zoom function using the camera control system?
I'm happy to see Nikon launching new products, even if it's something I would not buy. There does, however, seem to be a market for this product and I'm hoping Nikon captures enough of it to make it worth its while.
My biggest problem with Nikon has always been the autofocus, and I was thinking of moving to Sony but for the apsc range, but Nikon just released the z30 and it just got me in trouble.
I use the Nikon Z6ii after the upgrade I can tell you I see a big difference with the AF and eye detector and it’s really good. Is it A1 or Z9 good? No but you get your shots
all new camera have good autofocus, youtuber and vloggers have tohave something to talk about so they will always compare as if one is terrible and the other is superior. think about it like this. before eye autofocus became a thing photographers and film makers were getting beautiful clear pics and video, today it just simplyfied. dont wreck your brain over who has the most pin point af, keep your money in your pocket and get a good camera and go work it. it the person behind the camera that makes the difference. theres ppl that will pick up an old camera with half the features and create content like a hall of fame pro. with out autofocus.
I am a novice in the world of photography, I have a Nikon D7200, I have been looking for a little more compact mirror less camera but don’t want to lose all of the quality in photo taking. Would you recommend this z30 to me? I mainly shoot nature and wildlife.

I was just wondering why do I have to rotate video in phone, thanks for confirming that tagging point
Fro Knows Ski Dancing!
Not having a viewfinder was a great decision for a camera in this class, allowing a better form factor to fit in small bags and large pockets. More likely for people to carry around and still have similar experience to a phone but with better ergo. A great step forward in appealing to beginners.
Thank you now i will go for z30
Oh wow I didn’t even know there was a Z30 coming out, I wonder what else will be coming out next year
Better follow some other youtubers than Jared for the Nikon stuff. z30 was expected for more than a month now^^
@@dicekolev5360 one month is nothing! The world has been going mad in the meantime, it's easy to miss a camera release
@@simonmaduxx6777 There is no camera release man, today is the camera announcement but what I said was that they are talking about z30 for month and more already. The camera release will be in July/August/who knows. The world have ever been mad, not sure what's the connection...
@@dicekolev5360 it wasn't the most serious comment. More like hey, sometimes you just miss news(rumors?) because life. That's all I got sorry bro I'm tired LOL
it’s orderable today from all the usual retailers. Nikon press release says available mid-July
Which have better video quality with kit lens? ZV E10 or Z30?
So, I finally came around to watch this review and the only thing I didn't get an answer to was, what lens do you use on that studio R5?
When we see the cameras from behind, like at 13:36, the Canon says 1/50 shutter speed and F1.0 7/8 (I guess) is the aperture.
What is up with that?
What’s the setup with the Sennheiser wireless system on top of the cameras? What’s the routing? Thank you!!
Should we go with z50 for photography? Reply ASAP
is there any dynamic zoom (called in Panasonic, also called clear image zoom in Sony) and digital zoom? Can we extend the power zoom lens to limit using the control on lens follow by extending the camera built in zoom function using the camera control system?
I'm happy to see Nikon launching new products, even if it's something I would not buy. There does, however, seem to be a market for this product and I'm hoping Nikon captures enough of it to make it worth its while.
Great review but is there are rolling shutter in this camera?
What's the highest ISO you can go with this camera before it develops grain in the video?
Fro knows fro-toe!!
Try asking Ken Rockwell on his RUclips channel. He's been shooting Nikon for years.
Do your fropacks work with Capture One?..
Was there a chance to test the "digital e-VR image stabilization" that Nikon adverts in the specs?
I’m super new to photography so this might be a dumb question, but could you buy a view finder to put on this?
Not a dumb question, imo. I don't know why when camera companies do make an EVF to attach via the hot shoe it costs a ridiculous amount of $.
