I'm 13 and I started to get into movies after I accidentally clicked on the making of the 1986 aliens movie(that was a year ago) and first blood was my first movie I watched after that aliens video and I was instantly hooked on films
I loved this character study/thriller in almost every way. Didn’t even know it was a book! I thought the cliff scene suspended credibility, sure, and some of it was a little cheesy but overall the best film compared to the other ones (which were still great)! Final Score: 9/10
I first watched First Blood about a year ago and almost assumed it was a throwaway action movie until that final scene with Stallone's monologue, which brought the movie in a whole different light and enhances the quality of the entire movie.
I just turned 14 and I have been into films for about a year know, I drive my friends crazy because I talk about movies so much. Rambo first blood Easley goes into my to ten action films of all time. Love you content Sean you are my favourite RUclipsr.
Great movie great review but the bad stuff that you mentioned like the stereotypical Vietnam war soldiers being a little jokey and How Rambo survives after jumping off a cliff was silly I feel like those are just Nitpicks like they don’t effect the plot and all
Jerry Goldsmith's score is wonderful! It captures Rambo's loneliness in the French horn and it also captures him as a soldier turned fugitive on the run in the fast-moving mechanical rythms in the bass viols, piano and synthesizer!
Grew up in the movie theater, saw Rocky in the theater as a 7 year old, then First Blood in the theater at 13 ... I was amazed at Stallone as an actor, absolutely two of my favorite characters and series in cinema history!!!!!
Great review! I agree, I think Rocky falls victim to the same sort of backlash. Underappreciated because of the later films. The original Rocky was a masterpiece!!
Prepping for the release of Last Blood. Haven't watched an entry in this series in over a decade. Stallone was my dad's favorite actor by far of all time. He passed in 08, but I know he'd be so amped for this new chapter. I truly appreciate your passion for film Sean, it's comforting to know there are others like us out there. Checking out 2-4 tomorrow night. Keep up the great work friend.
Great review! I grew up watching these movies ...they are all great, but I think First Blood is the best...in fact, this is one of the first action movies I’ve ever watched, along with Terminator 1&2, Indiana Jones movies, Predator and Aliens...it is definitely in my top 10 action movies of all time
Hi Sean! I’m typing this before I watch the video so I don’t know if you’ve mentioned this is the video. But are the Rambo films very violent and gritty? Because if so, then I’ll watch the rest of this video. If not I need to go rent First Blood from the library, then come back!
I like this long form analysis. Excellent video. I was a kid when this came out and ended up reading the novel after seeing the movie. It was a great story and Rambo hasn't been as human on film since this movie. I'm hoping Last Blood brings us full circle.
Just watched it for the first time for this video and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I loved how it wasn’t all the perspective of Rambo himself, which showed off how much of a threat he was very well
I was born about 20 years after first blood came out and I was never really into Rambo but after I started watching them only like 2 months ago I loved this one!
You said about your younger audience, I saw it for the first time a little over a year ago, love it, fantastic, love the franchise 2 is personally my favorite but even 3 I find a lot of enjoyment in. Also love your doing this with Leach, fantastic stuff!
Although First Blood isn't my favorite of this franchise, I give Stallone all the credit for accurately portraying PTSD that Vietnam veterans were going through at that time & still suffer from to this day. A very young David Caruso is one of the deputies in this film. I also noticed the lettering in the opening credits is similar to the original Poltergeist.
The first felt more like a suspenseful drama rather than an action film, but that's not a bad thing. I liked the story and how Teasle was just as big of a character as Rambo.
I had never spoiled the plot of Rambo First Blood for myself, like I usually do for old movies, so I was honestly quite surprised when I saw this film. I expected it to be a straight up action romp where Rambo murdered a bunch of terrorists in the jungle or something. Instead, it was a much more subdued, personal journey of a man who had lost everything he ever loved in a war that his country didn't even want to fight, and came back only to find himself an outcast in his own home ('There are no good civilians"), being hunted by the people he fought for. There aren't actually that many clear cut villains in the movie: just a collection of people following orders from misguided leaders, and a mentally broken Rambo who becomes the monster at the end of the movie. That's way deeper than I ever expected anything in this film to be. The action is still great, as are the performances (particularly from Stallone and Richard Crenna), but it's really the drama that sold the film for me. To be honest, I don't have that much interest in the sequels for this film, because they seem exactly like what I expected this film to be: shallow action romps that are focussed more on explosions and death than drama and social commentary.
Just watched First Blood for the very first time and I loved it, it really surprised me. I didn’t expect it to be so substantive with the themes of PTSD. Only thing I wish the film did was explore the idea that it’s possible to have protested against the Vietnam war, but still support the soldiers
I really like the movie, but the car chases just go on too long for me. It feels like they decided to show every turn the vehicles make with the same camera movements each time
I actually watched Rambo first blood last week and it did not go the way I originally thought it would with the story I was surprised and hooked! Loved there was more meaning to it because I thought it was Rambo going ham in war about to watch the 3rd Rambo film until I get to last blood
This original Rambo film is the best and Stallone's best performance outside of the rocky films. I like the fact that it's based on simple police harassment that goes Haywire because of his post-traumatic stress. Not to mention Jerry Goldsmith magnificent score. I wish they still made orchestral scores like this. Sean this was a magnificent review you did!
THanks Yeah this is how I like my scores. So many classic and memorable scores form the 80s. There's so few scores that even catch my attention these days.
Watched Rambo: The First Blood the first time and thought it was a solid movie. It was not amazing or a movie I would want to rewatch again. Sylvester Stallone did a great job portraying John Rambo.
First Blood is the best of the franchise. Not because of the action alone but also the depht of Rambo and his struggles (like his PTSS). Love it!!! Edit: When you talked about the book. That was really interesting. Just like you i watch the movie about 25/30 years ago. Never read the book but it sounds interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.
I am one of your younger viewers, and I personally love the original “First Blood”. It’s one of my all time favorites. “Rambo: First Blood Part Two” I really enjoy, but it’s not on the level of the first, and I notice the issues. I really don’t enjoy “Rambo III”, there’s only a few moments that I find enjoyable. I don’t mind “Rambo”, but yet again, I find myself rather bored throughout the film. I am very excited to see “Rambo: Last Blood”, as it’s one of my most anticipated for the rest of the year. Please keep up your great content!
I just got around to watching Rambo films recently. I thought First Blood was an excellent film. excellent excellent excellent movie right there. First Blood Part 2 was kinda the ultimate "eh, that was pretty good" for me, but the finale is absolutely spectacular. Rambo III wasn't fantastic, but I thought it was way more executed than the second one. Rambo is my absolute favorite, the acting is spectacular, and if you love gory violence like me, this is the film. Haven't seen Last Blood yet, but I'm going to today. Will edit once I've seen it. Edit: Dear Lord, that was the best one
I actually watched this last night for the first timeso I could watch the new one and I loved it , great action and some great acting by Stallone at the end. A+
I first saw this at age 5 in 1984/85 past my bedtime and I absolutely loved it. Idk how I understood the politics of it. I just thought they literally didn't like the way he looked🤣
Just saw it tonight and I was thinking 20 minutes in that I would like it for him to be running from the cops and that is basically the whole movie 😂😂😂
First blood is my favorite movie, it's almost perfect and it has one of the best villains, Itd be cool if he had some kind of cameo in last blood or something
Love this film. Still my favorite Rambo film. I had seen the Rocky films before seeing this, so hearing Stallone talk and look different was kinda weird.
Sadly I have not watched a Rambo movie yet. But I will start maybe this weekend or if not soon. Because last blood looks awesome. And also I did not watch the video because it contains spoilers.
First Blood was great. Ive seen it numerous times. Every time I see it on cable i get sucked in. I didn't like the next two films, but the last one was good.
Kirk douglas probably wanted more money than the studio wanted to pay him. They filmed rambo being shot by richard crennas trautman and screened it to test audiences who hated it. Then they changed it to the ending we have. Maybe they thought douglas had a point and tried it out, or maybe the film was originally alot more violent like the book and he needed putting down. Also alot of bad dialogue was cut from the film as it was originally 3 hours long and stallone hated the film and wanted to burn it. Thankfully they cut away the fat and made it a better paced thriller. The lines with the national guard in, were probably the only remaining goofy dialogue they couldnt cut as threy progressed the story. Richard crenna was great as trautman as was stallone. I would love to see a 3 hour version of this film warts and all as its my favourite film, but stallone probably wont allow it. Id rather a special edition first blood with all the extra footage than any more in the series, the last one was pretty bad.
Of all the Rambo movies this is the one that feels the most like a movie, it felt like a real emotional drama, there’s a lot of action and it’s very cool but is very somber in its tone, it’s not really made to be “fun” like how Rambo 2 & 3 were, which to me is why this movie is still my favorite Rambo movie, I have an awesome time watching all the action but it also has emotional weight to it so it’s not just mindless action, it feels like an actual movie
As a kid my favourite Rambo film was Rambo 3. Then it was the second and First Blood i actually found quite boring. But im also danish and couldnt read so well at that time so i didnt understand what the characters were saying. And the 4th i saw when i was 11 i think. And yeah. Way too violent for me at that time and so i we actually had to turn it off. Now i just rewatched the first, second and 4th movie yesterday. I will go more in depth about the others but i'll quickly say that the second i found to be a mediocre film with nothing to offer and the 4th i thought was good. So second 5/10 and the 4th 7/10. First Blood though. Definite 10/10. I have already said everything in my ranking of them all in your ranking video but yeah. What a movie
Some technical military weapon corrections for you - the National Guard fired a LAW rocket aka anti-tank weapon, but NG guys never seem the brightest back then. The machine gun at the end was a M60 - 7.62mm , not a 50 cal ;-p As to the movie, saw it when it came out, liked it was finishing HS, did the Reserves and later joined the Regular Army, thought it was cool, didn't know of PTSD etc at the time, thought the end was weird when he lost it, but was ignorant of those issues. Now I know, and have buddies who now suffer from it!! Remember years later thinking if the sheriff left Rambo alone, let him get breakie etc, nothing would go wrong, but then we'd have no movie o.0 Ya, later movies just turned him into some uber-commando... never saw the last Rambo, not sure I'll go see this, will wait for Netflix ;)
The last Rambo was an experience. It's by FAR the most brutal of the films. I wouldn't saw it's the same tone as the original, but it strips away the 80s gloss and sensationalism of 2 and 3. Yeah I'd actually read it was law. Don't know why I said bazooka while filming.
That's hilarious you took your wife to see Rambo 4! Lol! I remember my ex-girlfriend and I went to see "Tears of the Sun" with Bruce Willis, and her reaction was beyond upset. Fun times!
Rocky Balboa came out the day before our wedding. So while on our honeymoon we went to go see Rocky Balboa. Then a year later we saw Rambo. So those Stallone revival films were huge in our early marriage haha. I think my wife actually has a story of an ex-boyfriend taking her to Tears of the Sun too!!! It did not go well for either of them. Haha SHe actually didn't respond too bad to Rambo 4. Though I don't think I've made her rewatch it.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I think because we're such movie fans we don't take the movie violence as seriously as casual movie viewers. Therefore I think the violence is much more impactful for them because they don't know how it's put together for the illusion.

I think stallone monologue at the end is great show his acting talent hes not just Action popcorn star He realy is good actor
It's sad when were in a generation that we have to explain who Kirk Douglas is by saying Hank Pyms dad. Hahaha were old...
Haha. Yeah as I was saying it I was thinking, "This is such bizarre thing to need to clarify. Kirk Douglas is a legends. Not Hank Pymns dad."
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout needless gloat time: I'm 21 and know who Kirk Douglas is ☺️
I'm 15 , and Kirk Douglas is in two of my favourite Kubrick movies of all time

I loved this character study/thriller in almost every way. Didn’t even know it was a book! I thought the cliff scene suspended credibility, sure, and some of it was a little cheesy but overall the best film compared to the other ones (which were still great)!

1. Rocky
2. First Blood
3. Creed
4. First Blood II
5. Creed II
did u see the Rocky II & III?? both of these classics should be on everyone's list....especially over Creed films
Did you know opinions were a thing and I have mine and you have yours?
The best out of all of them. The one with the most substance and important message.

Hey Sean two questions. Are you going to see joker at the film festival you are going to? Could you rank Romero’s of the dead series in October?
The Joker is not currently scheduled for the film festival.
I do not currently plan to rank the Romero films this October. Maybe next year.
I bet Sean won’t ❤️ this comment
Rambo saying "Watch the road. That's how accidents happen" was him attempting to bond with the National Guardsman, a fellow soldier, brother-in-arms!
I like this long form analysis. Excellent video. I was a kid when this came out and ended up reading the novel after seeing the movie. It was a great story and Rambo hasn't been as human on film since this movie. I'm hoping Last Blood brings us full circle.

I love first blood. I am young and didn’t grow up watching it but I still loved it. Nice review btw
That truck hijackimg lines were fine,he didn't say it in a goofy way like that. The other point I agree, great review
Just watched it for the first time for this video and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I loved how it wasn’t all the perspective of Rambo himself, which showed off how much of a threat he was very well
Best action film since it has some truth to the action at the end. Stallone gives the best ever.
Im 23 and I saw this movie like 5 years ago and I love it! after this movie I watched the rest of the rambo movies
I'm looking forward to the new Rambo, but I'm going to have to watch all the others before it in preparation.

Man First Blood is such a classic, not a heavy kill count (only 1 kill) but Sylvestor Stallone as Rambo is great, and the acting is superb.
I am watched this movie recently and I loved it immediately, already one the best action movies

This original Rambo film is the best and Stallone's best performance outside of the rocky films. I like the fact that it's based on simple police harassment that goes Haywire because of his post-traumatic stress. Not to mention Jerry Goldsmith magnificent score.
Haha
SHe actually didn't respond too bad to Rambo 4. Though I don't think I've made her rewatch it.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I think because we're such movie fans we don't take the movie violence as seriously as casual movie viewers. Therefore I think the violence is much more impactful for them because they don't know how it's put together for the illusion.
