I love Rambo first blood, I only like this one and Rambo (2008). Harrison Ford also brought two iconic characters to life, Hans Solo and Indiana Jones.
It's funny how audience's see Stallone, being that he's an accidental action star. First Blood is much more of a dramatic thriller than action film. His first true action movie was Rambo 2 in '85. He was all drama for the previous 12yrs of his career. Minus the porno
The third act left me speechless, that monologue Rambo had about the blown pieces of his friend on him was one of the best acting have seen. I’m not gone lie, I cried. I love this movie 👍10/10
Me too! Holy crap, almost on cue, as soon as Rambo says the line (going by memory, so paraphrasing)- Back at 'Nam I was flying million dollar helicopters. I come back home, I can't even work at a car wash. Waterworks!!! That line hit me in ways I can't even describe. Really think hard about that line. It's a real gut punch.
He dies in the original cut of the film but test audiences hated it because they grew to love the John Rambo character throughout the film. Originally Colonel Trautman walks in with a 45 to end Rambo, Trautman can't do it and Rambo grabs Trautmans hand and forces him to shoot him, killing him. I'm glad the ending was changed because the character was so incredible. By the 2nd film he became an iconic hero for the 80s. Love the film and the series itself is a blast.
Such a great restrained action film. If you watch closely Rambo doesn't actually directly kill anyone. In the third film the body count is about 115, it's just absurd, he's an unstoppable killing machine. In this for the first hour it's him v 5 policemen chasing. It feels authentic and real. The bit where he's being chased and hunted by the dogs and all he can do is run. You also have so much sympathy for Rambo, how misunderstood he is throughout the film. I even like the villain too, he's not this 1 dimensional baddie. From his point of view he's just doing his job and thinks he's dealing with a real trouble maker.
Watching this movie as a kid, I always liked it, because of the action, of course. But, I also really liked it for it's great story. Now that I'm much older, having served as a reconnaissance Marine and having dealt with PTSD and the stresses of combat and transitioning back to the world myself, I find that I have an even greater admiration and respect for the film, as well as the book. Excellent review, Cody. I thought your assessment was pretty darn right on, man.
Stallone is a action legend & my all time favourite action hero, not only has he starred in some of the best action movies he's also a damm good writer & director, he wrote the screenplay for this film. Great performances throughout, well directed & paced, tense, suspenseful & emotional plus a awesome music score by Jerry Goldsmith, Stallone acting throughout phenomenal especially when he tells Troughtman how he seen his friend blown up it's such a powerful emotional scene. The scenes were he sets the traps hunts the cops is so intense & I love how you see Teagle break down & shit himself when Rambo puts the knife to his throat. So glad your reviewing the Rambo movies, I can't wait hear your thoughts & opinions about each film.
Cody Leach I just looked up Brian Dennehy because the movie Gladiator you mentioned was familiar. I remember him and he is a great actor but did you know he is 81 now? Like damn.
Probably one of the best modern reviews I've seen on First Blood. You really hit the nail on the head when bringing up all your points on why it's so great.
I watched first blood very early in my life, and I was too young to understand the nuance and deeper meaning of this film. I re-watched it yesterday and was incredibly moved by the third act. Personally one of my favorite movies. Stallone nailed that slow emotional burn.
Great review. I genuinely think this is one of the greatest movies ever, my opinion obviously. Definitely my favorite Stallone movie as well. I can’t just watch first blood, I get emerged in it. Such a emotionally draining movie. I love it.
The most grounded and best of the Rambo flicks. One of my earliest memories was how big a deal it was when this hit home video in the 80s and everyone clamoring to rent a copy for ages. It’s because of this movie that you tear up at the conclusion of the 4th movie when he’s finally walking home down that long road (also the song First Blood ends with). So thrilled Last Blood is coming out!!! Can’t wait.
I think the ending's dramatic acting on Stallone's part is the best acting of his career. It's super cheesy, but amazing. "Back there I was in charge of $100,000 equipment. Here's I can't even keep a job pulling gas!"
Its not super cheesy at all it actually takes on a relateble part of ptsd in a realistic way.. My grandfather was in the vietnam war and after he came home he just wasnt the same my granny even told me that he never slept without his shoes on... And i asked her why..thats weird and she let me know that he told her " i have to keep my shoes on just in case you never know.. I always have to be ready" my grandmother asked him ready for what... And he replied " for the nearest enemy"...
Preach! That national guard part kills me. The "I'm not going in there". This one in my not expert opinion is the best one by a landslide. 4.75 is a good score. The others to me are maybe 3.5 to 3.75. I need to rewatch the newest one it's been a while. The ending scene gets me every time. I have a grandpa that would tell nam stories and sometimes like this and yeah. Anyways. Great review. Can't wait til rambo 2
Now by no means I'm not putting down any other person who does reviews, but you're definitely my favorite. I'm always going to turn to you no matter what when it comes to good reviews and just knowledge. Like I said there's other great ones, but I think yours are the most badass. I always look forward to more. Also when you do Rambo 2, I'm looking forward to when you mention him shooting up the computers which is my favorite scene, but I'm not sure if you are, but I am hoping to see something about that pop up.
I got to admit man I’m excited that your reviewing this films I asked months ago if you’ll review them since the last blood trailer dropped and here we are I’m a hug fan of the Rambo films
@CodyLeach I absolutely love first blood. I’m a huge fan of yours and Sean’s channels and my favorite line is the line when we first see Colonel Trautman and one of the first lines he says if not the first line he says “You seem to not realize, your dealing with an expert in guns, knives and Guerilla Warfare!” I love Sylvester Stallone and yes I have to agree with you whenever you think about Stallone you think about Rocky and Rambo. He also, looks great for a man in his late 70’s for sure.
Another FANTASTIC review. Totally agree with every point made. This is my favorite Stallone film and this review was on point with how I feel about it. Btw, Cody... also totally loved your review of Fright Night. Another one of my absolute favorite movies and you were spot on with every point in that one as well. Love your channel. Love the reviews.
First Blood was the first Stallone movie I saw! I remembered my brother owning FB: Part Two and the 2008 Rambo which I only saw snippets while he was watching it but it horrified me, but I watched First Blood fully and My Heart was just Pounding out my chest, not because I was worried, but because I never seen anything like it and it was a adrenaline rush. It made me want too go out to the woods and be Rambo when I was a Preteen (not killing or hunting) but seeing if I could survive in the woods and see if I could camouflage in the environment. But what also boosted my rush was Jerry Goldsmiths Score!!! This Along with Alien is his best film score. I still til this day watch First Blood atleast 2-3 times a week and I never ever get bored if it!!! A masterpiece and an amazing first story too a iconic character!
Love that you're starting a franchise review on Rambo! Great series! I know this would not be very relevant to anything coming out soon, but I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on the Jaws series, especially 3 and 4. Lol seeing your reaction to some of the crap in part 4 would be must watch for me!
Great review! One of the best action thrillers of all time! I loved the emotional monolog at the end...it hit hard! Didn't end on a stereotypical action scene! I love that stuff to...but the way it ended was the right way to go...shows the effects of PTSD.
It's funny that the original cut was over 3 hours and Stallone thought it was so bad it would ruin his career. It's why Best Editing is an Academy Award. One of my all-time favorite movies and damn if it hasn't aged perfectly. I saw Rambo 2 in the theater 9x, which is a personal record, but imo it hasn't held up as well as the original. And technically we didn't lose the Vietnam War. :)
I just watched this for the first time a few weeks ago cause it was on sale on 4K. Really enjoyed it ,Stallone is an artist I just keep finding more respect for. I also just watched Psycho 2 for the time a a few months ago and loved it so it was great to see both videos. Congrats on the anniversary, you've accomplished so much in 3 years your always stepping it up in every video.
Cody your affection for and your opinion on this movie very much mirrors mine, the sequence where he’s picking off the cops in the forest has as much tension as a lot of horror films; easily my favorite film of this franchise.
Glad you mentioned Gladiator. I love that movie too. Watched it all the time growing up! Brian Dennehy was so conniving and a great bad guy in that film
Criminally underrated Gem and the only GOOD film of the entire franchise (tho wife and I liked 4 as well for it's move back to grit and the spirit of this first film.... #2 and #3 were 1980's cheese and sadly I mean that in the BAD way) I was pleasantly surprised your doing this film Cody, and i really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on what you took from it and saw in it. Sadly (an in some cases he brings this on himself by some of his awful films) I feel Stallone will not get enough credit for bringing pathos to his best characters be it Rocky, or Copland, or in this film John Rambo.
First Bloods my favorite movie. I see it simply as a movie about a loner guy that was tired of being pushed around when he never bothers anyone else. I see it far more of a story film than an action film. Even the opening music is perfect.
I think First Blood is an amazing and very important movie! The story of John Rambo is very important to vets who are suffering from PTSD. 😢 when i first watched it I thought I wasn't gonna like it. I 'wrongly ' assumed Stallone couldn't act cuz i hadn't seen any of his movies. I thought just another action movie. I was so wrong and damn it I cried at the end. 😢
Awesome review! This is my favorite action movie. I love that it's more grounded and realistic. It is one of Stallones best performances as well as Brian Dennehy and Richard Crenna. Nothing is Over!!!
Richard Crenna went on to portray a caricature of Col. Trautman in hotshots. Richard Crenna also served as the template for ”Metal Gear solid” character Colonel Roy Campbell. metalgear.fandom.com/wiki/Roy_Campbell
Love ur videos❤️❤️ ur such a natural in front of the camera and in depth n real about ur reviews. Such an inspiration for me! I am currently doing a child’s play ranking video right now as I write this (well part by part). I have to get used to this RUclips thing since I’m a newbie lol
Nice one, Mate! I'm glad you are doing reviews of the RAMBO series. FIRST BLOOD is my favourite Sylvester Stallone film too. Truth is, I like all four of the Rambo films (yes, some are better than others). Looking forward to LAST BLOOD! (*would be funny if - just for laughs - you did a little bonus review of the RAMBO animated series from the 80s!)
First blood is a day one pick up on 4k. The 4k transfer looks amazing, the best it's ever looked. This movie never feels old even 37 years later. But first blood part 2 is the greatest action movie of all time in my opinion. I said it first.
I really like first blood cause its grounded, like you said they explore psychological issues with veterans, and being that I know veterans I know the mind can be alot harder to heal than the body sometimes, and your right I dont see alot of action films explore that, and it seems more realistic with him having a breakdown at the end cause a human being can only endure so much for so long before they break a little, and yes this film can be relevant with police brutality, and damaged, and scarred veterans from any war or battle. Awesome thought Cody!!!
By far the best movie in the franchise in my opinion. I agree pretty much with everything that you said in this review. The rest of the movies in this series are like you said pure over the top action movies with not as much character development as the original.
I saw the movie when I was a child, I just saw it again, and I have tell I feel very motivated by the character of Jonh Rambo. No doubt, Sylvester Stallone here is unique, he brings the character to life.
People should definitely read the book if you love the movie. It’s similar but Rambo is more violent and unhinged. As with all books you get more in his mind. And I love how it switches between Rambo and the sheriff’s perspectives throughout it.
Love the shirt Cody I've seen my friend with his head open just like that after he was hit by a car standing right next to me when I was 15. Never been able to get that image out of my head
First Blood is a great movie. Sylvester Stallone should had got a Oscar nomination for his performance as John Rambo. I felt really sorry for Rambo in the movie.
I know that one of these is not iconic, but I find it interesting the Brad Dourif played the killer in Child’s Play (Chucky) and played a cop in the Halloween Remake. I mean, that’s Chucky in a Halloween film!
Quentin Tarantino said he’d like to remake this with Adam driver and do it exactly like the book. In the book Rambo is actually more of the bad guy and the sheriff is more of the good guy. I think it would be very interesting.
It's not only a great action movie, it's not only a great Sly movie, it's a great movie with great characters and real feelings and real themes to discuss. Rambo is a flawed character and that make this movie so great. I fucking love this flick!!!!
Stallone’s Howard Stern interview from 2005/2006 (it’s a 5 min clip on RUclips). And you find out Stallone basically saved this 🎥. He told the filmmakers to take out his dialogue. (Went from 3 hours long to 93 min)
I agree actors who can bring two or more roles into iconic status are noteworthy. You forgot Harrison Ford though. Han Solo and Indiana Jones. And Arnie counts: Terminator and Conan.
I Love First Blood and First Blood Part 2, Rambo 3 was kind of weird for me. I'm glad he saves his best friend in Colonel Trautman. Love the reviews, keep them coming.👍
I think First Blood also foreshadows how the USA wouldn't back down from the Vietnam war and send troops home and give up. Just like the Sheriff in the movie let his ego get in the way and wouldn't let it go with Rambo. Great movie. So deep
I think this movie is essentially about "what if a guy who is trained to be a war machine was let loose amongst civilians who had never experienced war and believe they are at the top of the food chain". This movie is relentless with its pacing and gets down to business within literally 3 minutes. An exceptional film.
This movie definitely still holds up. Always been a favorite of mine. He goes out of his way to not kill all of those cops he just wants to be left alone that's it. But cops in cop fashion have to press the issue and turn something minor into something major. You feel bad for Rambo in this one. He was just trying to visit a war buddy and found himself in a unwanted war at home
I realize it was one of the points of the movie, but I cannot get over how disrespectful the police force were to an army veteran. It was so traumatizing to witness. It just blew my mind. To Rambo's first interaction with the sheriff, to the ones with the other police officers, especially after they realize what a hero he was! I always expected them to falter, apologize and roll out the red carpet for one of their veterans. I'm not American, but someone who has the courage and resilience to go and fight for his country will never be a bum in my book.
yeah i hated the sheriff in this movie.. the man was a green beret.. the stuff Rambo went through (even though it was a movie, but from the uncensored real videos i have seen of war, tortures, executions you name it i probably saw it, it even traumatized me and i was watching behind a screen, (the site was taken down and i can see why) but what all soldiers of any war / any nation except (isis fk them...) (and Germany ww2 i mean f them too.. all of the documentaries from Untoldstories highly recommend watching that channel) just hearing what they went through even terrifies me) have experienced serious trauma during their time in war
Love the review cody I love Rambo I like rambo series more than the rocky series another 80s action movies I think you would like is the Missng in Action movies with Chuck Norris I would love t see a review on them just to hear your thoughts on them. But thank you cant wait for the rest of your Rambo reviews
Be sure to check out Sean's review!

I've always loved first blood I have a copy
Great review! I love the accent. Bama boy here. Where you from?
I'm a big rambo fan and the rambo series are my second favorite Stallone movies their so awesome to watch
Nice shout out to "Gladiator", great movie
Derek Mears said that Rambo in First Blood was an inspiration for his take on Jason in Friday the 13th (2009).
Exactly. I always nicknamed 2009 Jason Rambo Jason from the start.
I love Rambo first blood, I only like this one and Rambo (2008). Harrison Ford also brought two iconic characters to life, Hans Solo and Indiana Jones.
Ben Clawson yes Harrison Ford also pulled it off
Don't forget Deckard from Blade Runner
It's funny how audience's see Stallone, being that he's an accidental action star. First Blood is much more of a dramatic thriller than action film. His first true action movie was Rambo 2 in '85. He was all drama for the previous 12yrs of his career. Minus the porno
First Blood is My All Time Favorite Stallone film love Every Minitue of it..... Great Action 80s film.
I hope Last Blood will go back grounded emotional roots of the character. First Blood is one of the best action films of all time.
Great movie...one of my favorites action movies of all time...I love the Rambo franchise, but First Blood is the best
The third act left me speechless, that monologue Rambo had about the blown pieces of his friend on him was one of the best acting have seen. I’m not gone lie, I cried. I love this movie 👍10/10

Really think hard about that line. It's a real gut punch.
Rambo is the best, ah forget it
All Rambo Wanted Was Something To Eat, The Sheriff Gave Him A Rough Time
A rough time lol 😆🤣🤣🤣

Also a bit inspired by the real American hero soldier from WW2 Audie Murphy. First look "To Hell and back" (1955).

Stallone should have gotten an Oscar for this movie.
John Smith Even just his emotional breakdown at the end was oscar worthy
@@shenlochbrachass9684 Totally agree. His performance was incredible.
Harrison Ford is another one who has brought pop culture TWO iconic roles: Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Don’t sleep on Harrison!

Love that you referenced GLADIATOR 1992. Awesome, under seen film. Low blow on Judge Dredd though. I'm a big fan of that one. No apologies
Mel Gibson also had 2 iconic characters with Mad Max and Martin Riggs.
Sly and Mel are my favorite actors!
Both are awesome.
Harrison Ford with Indiana Jones and Han Solo.
It's a movie about PTSD and obsessions. I insist, I LOVE this movie!
First Blood is my second favorite movie of all times. My favorite the Rocky franchise. Awesome review like always!

Two iconic characters.. Harrison Ford- Indiana Jones and Han Solo
Classic 80’s film
@CodyLeach I absolutely love first blood. I’m a huge fan of yours and Sean’s channels and my favorite line is the line when we first see Colonel Trautman and one of the first lines he says if not the first line he says “You seem to not realize, your dealing with an expert in guns, knives and Guerilla Warfare!” I love Sylvester Stallone and yes I have to agree with you whenever you think about Stallone you think about Rocky and Rambo. Sheriff:Why would you be carrying a knife like this?
Rambo:Hunting.
Sheriff:Don't be a wiseguy. What do you hunt with a knife.
Rambo:The enemy.
Does he say the enemy? I always thought he said " Name it"...
Another FANTASTIC review. Totally agree with every point made. This is my favorite Stallone film and this review was on point with how I feel about it.

This is an old school, straight up bad ass 80s action film. Great soundtrack too!
Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones/ Hans Solo. Great review!

The story telling in this is amazing.

Love ur videos❤️❤️ ur such a natural in front of the camera and in depth n real about ur reviews. Such an inspiration for me! I am currently doing a child’s play ranking video right now as I write this (well part by part). I have to get used to this RUclips thing since I’m a newbie lol
Good luck and have fun
Cody Leach thanks
Nice one, Mate! I'm glad you are doing reviews of the RAMBO series. FIRST BLOOD is my favourite Sylvester Stallone film too. Truth is, I like all four of the Rambo films (yes, some are better than others). Looking forward to LAST BLOOD! (*would be funny if - just for laughs - you did a little bonus review of the RAMBO animated series from the 80s!)
One of the greatest Action movies! I can re-watch it over and over again. I adore parts 2 and 3 as well
First blood is a day one pick up on 4k.
That shirt is awesome
Great video man🤘👍
One of my favorite films of all time and a masterpiece in my eyes. Love it.
i love them all, tells a complete story, and now pretty soon the final chapter of John Rambo!!
Love that you're doing this with Chandler man, great stuff.
Yeah Sean's the best!
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout Absolutely!
Been waiting a long time for this one!! One of the best action movies ever made. Stallone is unreal in the end...
On a side note, Brian, over 6 ft., said he was really afriad of Sly on set, who is under 6ft.
This one was the realest one out of the series.
I love this movie. My dad is a Vietnam vet so my dad and I can relate to this even though I am not a vet. Great movie.
I think First Blood also foreshadows how the USA wouldn't back down from the Vietnam war and send troops home and give up. Just like the Sheriff in the movie let his ego get in the way and wouldn't let it go with Rambo. Great movie. So deep
A brilliant film and one of my favourites. So much action in less than 90 minutes and great characters
I think this movie is essentially about "what if a guy who is trained to be a war machine was let loose amongst civilians who had never experienced war and believe they are at the top of the food chain". This movie is relentless with its pacing and gets down to business within literally 3 minutes. An exceptional film.
I'm sure you are but are you getting the best buy rambo 4k steelbook box set ?
No. Already have them all on 4k
One of the best Stallone movies ever, and probably the most underated action movie ever.
Clint Eastwood brought both the man with no name and Harry Callahan into iconic status; perhaps not the same genre as Stallone’s entries.
Hey Cody I haven’t seen any of the Rambo movies should I watch them all in order or should I wait and start with Rambo 5
In order
Deshawn Riley exactly definitely in order.
DO NOT START with Rambo 5!
Okay I’ll start with the first one and work my way towards Rambo 5
Brian Dennehy was a great actor. Watch Silverado and the two F/X movies for other great Brian Dennehy performances.
great review man! The first is still my favourite for sure! Rambo (2008) is my second fav, the others are great actions flicks as well!
Love the review cody I love Rambo I like rambo series more than the rocky series another 80s action movies I think you would like is the Missng in Action movies with Chuck Norris I would love t see a review on them just to hear your thoughts on them. But thank you cant wait for the rest of your Rambo reviews
