  • I recommend a review of PART 1 of this DMR series before viewing the setup in PART 2, especially if you are a newcomer to crossmode operation. The video covers a detailed setup of the openSPOT 4 PRO hotspot and specifically the Anytone D878 DMR radio for crossmode operation. The principles also apply to other DMR radios.

I enjoyed the video and Gary's communication style (clearly a formally trained educator). I followed his instructions, but could not gain success. He did not address what a 4000 disconnect was (I had to learn elsewhere) but he mentioned it briefly in his instructions. The s Local 9 was also confusing because he did not explain it. I now understand that brandmeister uses channel 9 for local I believe, but still not completely sure. The biggest stumbling block for me was the talkgroup assignments of 9001, 9002, and 9003. That didn't work for me, but after spending some time trying to understand it, I converted the 9001 (DMR) to many duplicate channels to the hotspot, each with a different talkgroup like 91 worldwide, 3100 USA Bridge, etc. and was then able to make first contact. So for the reader that is using Gary's training, make sure to create many DMR channels and put them in a zone, all the same frequency to your hotspot, but labeled differently and with a different relevant talkgroup of your choosing. You can download and install ALL the brandmeister talkgroups to your radio which you should do so you can assign them. Do all of that and you will have success on the DMR to hotspot instructions. I have not tried the DMR nor Fusion instructions Gary provided yet.

So a few questions would be once I add the profiles one two and three or dmr1 D star is profile too and c4fm is profile 3 under the channel name how do I change it under contact because there's no way to change it you don't cover that, next when I go to contact talk groups I don't see any of the channels in there that I just made so there's no way for me to assign a 9001 2 and 3 a little confusing
