LG 29WK600 21:9 ultrawide HDR monitor review. Best budget option?

- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2024
- There are two versions of this new ultrawide monitor from LG, the 29WK500 and the 29WK600 that I'm reviewing here. They are both 29" IPS displays with a resolution of 2560 by 1080 pixels. They both come with 2 HDMI ports but the 600 variant adds a DisplayPort. And also has HDR10 support, for gaming and streaming with High Dynamic Range or HDR.

Super underrated review. This covered everything I wanted to know and was super organized. Thank you!
Many thanks!
Oh you’re here what’s up
The CLEANEST ultrawide review!
Great - thank you!
I agree 100%
Sorry missed this! I show this at 1:42 - it's 65W (19V, 3.42A) ...
exactly
IKR!!!
I wasn't expecting such an in depth review. Excellent work, buddy.
I really like the fact that you really explain all the details. This in depth review is really really useful and appreciated.
I've actually made login in my account only to like your review, really awesome job
That's fantastic many thanks!
OMG my guy really just told me absolutely everything I need to know, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
No problem - thanks DarK WolF!!
I've been browsing for monitor review videos for weeks, and yours are the clearest and most comprehensive I've found. Keep up the good work!
I just bought it. This screen is amazing for multitasking!. I love it.
Yes I'd struggle without an ultra-wide now!
I love your reviews. Most reviews are limited to "Wow, this is good, I like it" without going into any detail as of why the item is good and without performing any tests to prove it. I just purchased a LG 29WN600-W which appears to be almost identical to the one that you reviewed. Hopefully it's just as good because it's the one I was able to find.
Thank you adolfojp! LG model names are very confusing - it looks identical and has the same specs, but whether they've made any minor changes I don't know. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
How has it been after a year?
@@tacticalmoose7783 The display is still perfect in every way except for its pixel density which feels a bit low whenever I move my face closer to the screen to read smaller text. But this is not an old or cheap monitor problem. A cousin of mine recently bought a bigger "gaming" ultrawide with a higher resolution but the pixel density is somehow worse and mine looks luxurious in comparison. Buying a display with a higher PPI would have been too expensive at the time so I don't regret the purchase in any way whatsoever. I'm going to use it until it dies or until I have enough of a disposable income to toss out a perfectly good monitor because it's not perfectly great. But I'm still overall happy with it so replacing it is not a priority. If I were to go back in time I would buy the same monitor again.
@@adolfojp Thank you so much for the update! Gonna see if I can get it on sale at best buy as I’ve seen it discounted before. Thanks once again
This is the best review I've seen. Going to buy it soon, thanks for the video.
Wow - thank you!
One year later, how do you like it so far?
@@13D00_ hey, I ended up getting a G27Q from gigabyte. It was a hard decision between getting 16:9 and 21:9 though.
These are the type of monitor reviews I’m looking for
Thank you Paul Carrillo!
Wow, just wow.. Your review is just outstanding. No BS , straight up to the point, covered a massive amount of details. Thank you very much. Subbed.
Thank you Bhaarat Sharma - much appreciated!
wow, this was one of the most on-point reviews I've seen on YT, thank you
Thanks so much Pourya Da!
i have one 32" and i really recomend to use dark wallpapers for this type of monitors !!!!
Very detailed and not boring, I enjoyed your review thank you.
I watched this review for the HDR and loved it. Now playing Horizon ZD with HDR and i'm blown away. Thank you!
Thank you Misshapen Ape _!
I think this is the best review I ever came across on YT :) Thank you. Best regards from Egypt!
Wow, thank you!
I'm from Egypt too!!
Picked up the 600 from Amazon for my son. He is super happy.
Great!
Thank-you for the comprehensive review.
The ONLY person in the world who showed the audio from this monitor!!! Thanks man! I bought one and the sound doesnt work
Thank you Felipe Martins - glad you found the video useful! Hope you sort out the audio.
Awesome review, you might have convinced me to get this thing
This monitor looks really nice, I'll probably buy one to study computer science when I get into university.
same
You are so tecnical that you won a new subscriber :)
Good job! I was expecting the usual reading specs off the prompter, but you actually tested the monitor. Of course this can always improve in the details you're taking in consideration. For monitors at least for me the most important tests would be response time, blur, ghosting, color depth, and showing all of the settings that can be changed in the menu as some might not have overdrive or other settings available.
Thank you Smug! More monitor reviews coming soon if I can find any in stock! I'll take your points into consideration.
WTF!
There are cycling games?
xD
Anyway. Amazing review!!
Exactly what I needed to know and more. Suscribing.
Ikr.. 😮cycling???
Totally rocking review for someone who's considering purchasing this one. I hope you're getting well rewarded for your effort, sir. Keep 'em coming. Prices are so low now in 2020 that it's hard to pass on. I'm kind of cheap but I think I'll grab this one. I'm mostly using Vegas Pro, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop so ultra-wide aspect ratio has been a long temptation for me but the prices were out of reach. But, now it looks they're becoming more mainstream as this model in the country where I reside at the moment can be bought for mere USD200.
Thank you Uldis Zalcmanis! I'm still using mine everyday for the same kind of apps :).
thanks for the great review, I'm thinking on buying the LG 29WK600 for my motion graphics workstation!
¿Qué diferencia tiene con el 29WK500?
The perfect review I was looking for! 😍
The most interesting thing is - I just ordered the 29WQ600 model (a newer version of 29WK600) on Amazon after a vague research on the internet but was still so much worried about the colour accuracy of the same.
Never thought a 5 year old video will help me that much. Huge respect to you sir! 🙏
Love from Assam... ❤❤❤
Very glad it helped - thanks for leaving a comment!
I wish you would pick a different song. I hear so many people using it, and it's so obnoxious to listen to for 12 minutes straight..
I will try and find something different for my next video!
@@TheTechnologyMan yes especially when you speak, no need backsound
It’s because it’s free and they don’t get claimed for using it.
You get your video claimed for using the most obscure music now unless you know it’s royalty free.
I'm watching it using my 29WK600, and finally able to get a good suggestions of the HDR Settings for this monitor. Thank you!
Great - glad I could help!
Just got this for $199 in Micorcenter!!!!
its 169 at wallmart
Wow. You know far more than any other reviewers I have seen. I wonder why you don't make many reviews. You can be at the top viewed lists with your explanations, clarity, and knowledge of the products!
Thanks Abid Miraj! I try and produce a video every week - but they take a lot of time!
Congratulations on the video! Talked about several items on the monitor. I'm going to buy a monitor for games and I'm between that and the Lg 29um69-G. So far I liked more of this 29wk600, just did not find one of the most important points to play, which is the Input-lag. The 29um69-G has 10 ms of input-lag, you know tell me the input of this? Thank you!
The response time on this monitor is 5ms gtg
Awesome. First of all, fantastic video. Only 1.9k subscribers?! Secondly, glad I saw this review. Was going to spend more on the 34, but I think this 29 will do exactly what I need and also offer the added productivity of an ultrawide.
Great thank you! Yes I think the 29" is about the limit for me regarding dpi. At the same resolution that is. But that's a personal preference.
@@TheTechnologyMan Ended up actually going with the 34! The day I walked in to Best Buy, they had it $100 less than what it was before. Both monitors are great, but this extra real estate is awesome.
Wow that's a great deal! Enjoy 😀.
Watching on a 29wk600!
Nice 👍!
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks for the helpful review!
No problem - very glad it was helpful!
Great review... Needed to check the audio coming from this monitor. Thanks a lot.
Great glad it was helpful!
do you happen to have the calibrated colour profile for this monitor? can you share it? thanks.
following this comment'
I second this, please!
I would also like to know...
I'm just reviewing another monitor - as soon as I get this monitor back on my desk I can share the profile. Although it's only really meant for the exact monitor it was created for - so may not offer any benefit.
@@TheTechnologyMan I understand that. However, I got this monitor and comparing it to my old 24" 1080p TN panel, I think something's off. Can't really put my finger on what's wrong, I just can tell something is. So I'd rather try your config first - share everything please, contrast, sharpness and so on. Thank you in advance!
Still one of the best reviews I've seen for ANYTHING on youtube
Thanks - very kind of you to say!
really helpful thx
tx for the review
And that ladies and gentlemen is how a review should be done. Superb job!
Wow - thank you Edgar Chong!
I didn't know Christian Bale did monitor reviews
LMFAO!
First of all thanks for detailed explanation and lovely detailed review.
This is the first video where I could actually understand the difference and quality of the speakers.
Secondly can you please mention the speakers that you are using externally to the monitor I would love to have them.
Thanks! They're old Creative speakers - had them for years!
HDR without local dimming?
By the way I mirrored image my setting on this same monitor im using with yours, thanks men. Productivity works as never been this exciting 😊😊
Great to hear!
bruh, you spend a day on 75hz and 60 will look broken, just try it
i know right, i was sleeping over at friends house and he has one dumb squared monitor which is 75hz it felt so good playing on it, and when i got home looking on my 60hz monitor at first i thought something happened to it, i was like wtf is with my dumbass monitor. XD
@@shvelee2065 Are you talking about those old CRT monitors? Yea gaming on them is absolutely brilliant. Wish could find Trinitron on eBay.
@@gacomics5951 i smashed my monitor and got myself a nice 144hz monitor
I have the WK600 and the hdr effect mode looks fantastic. I paid the extra for the 600k and I'd recommend it. Xbox always detects the monitor as hdr and detects it and runs in freesync.
Great monitor.
Does the monitor stretch the image, or does it just put two black stripes at the edges?
Excellent review, to the point and accurate. I've found it ...just 1 hour after I've purchased the monitor online... but it just confirmed I've made the right choice! You've gained another subscriber!
Thank you Alex G - and for the support!
Amazing job, very accurate, i would watch you reviewing tech stuff all day!
Many thanks!
So much work for just monitor review! Great work thank you.
No problem very glad you found it useful!
Amazing review! I bought one and i'm waiting the deliver. Greetings from Brazil!
Thank you Joao Pacheco! Let us know how you like it ...
I have been using a 21:9 34" LG for over a year, love it.
Nice one!
yoooooooooo, amazing review. not as flashy as others but still professional and CLEAN. and covered everything and no fluff. so much good and ancillary knowledge. jeeeeeeeesus. well done.
Thanks T Z!
There’s a Maxx Audio setting that makes the sound much better. It’s like a bass boost. It makes the audio sound huge.
Good to know thanks - after testing the speakers for the review I've always used external speakers since.
This is such an extremely good review mate, you have covered all of the tech details in a very efficient and clear manner. I'm looking at buying about six of these for various properties I rent out and making a little office area in each. It seems that they will fit the bill very nicely and at $200 each that is very reasonable for such spec.
Glad it was helpful!
I got two of these 34”, great monitors. LG doesn’t disappoint.
Wow nice setup!
The Technology Man would be a nice setup, I agree :) But got one for my wife and one for myself. We both work from home for now due to the virus situation we’re all in.
awesome review, I edit photos and I was looking into details about the colour accuracy of this display. I'm glad to see its very accurate and wanted to let you know that your extensive review helped me decide on buying this monitor! :) Thank you!
Very glad the review helped with your decision - and thanks for comment!
lawryyXD have you used it so far? If so how has it been for you?
Mohammed Musa I bought the 34wk650w instead cos I wanted a larger screen! no regrets! if you have the space and don't mind not having retina level pixel density then it's great!
thanks to your review, I picked one up. Cant wait. thank you :)
Cool I hope you enjoy it!
Excellent review. You covered in depth analysis and perhaps the best I could come across on youtube.
Thanks a lot !!!
Thank you dheerajdelhi - really glad I could help out!
This is the kind of review i was looking for, great job
That's great, thank you!
Excellent review. You answered every question I had about every technical term. Thank you!
Great - thank you Nambiur Vidyashanker!
There is only one thing missing on the video, GTG response time, see if there is any visible ghost effect when compare to a faster TN monitor and see if there is any imput lag that could bother FPS games players.
Can I just say how clever it was to use your background music track as an A/B/C comparison between what we're already hearing, the monitor with your microphone, and the speakers side by side?
Thank you Lavender! Always nice if these things get noticed!
Thank you, I got all the info I needed and some I didn't even know I did, I will get this monitor now! :D
Glad I could help!
I've been considering to buy this monitor past week, your video was helpful. Thanks!
well, did you buy it, im considering buying it too.
@@mataxpp yes I did. I'm really happy with the screen. I went from 2x 7 year old 16:9 1080p to this single UW monitor. I'm not missing the second screen at all. It's also much much smoother and less ghosty than I'm used too. The foot feels solid , no wiggle or something
@@Ereinion25 thanks a lot my man, hopefully I'll buy it next month. Can't wait to play in 21:9 !
@@mataxpp yeah it's a nice experience, much more immersive imo. Hope you have a recent AMD card, freesync is quite nice as well.
This monitor is going out of stock in korea, replaced by newer lineups with low max brightness of 250cd. As an owner of this awesome model, thank you very much!
Thank you Hong JunTaek! Mine is still going strong!
Now this is an excellent review! Thank you!!!
Great thanks J Q!
Thanks for upload the monitor profile!

Absolutely amazing review. I own the non HDR version of this and am planning to get the HDR version as my second monitor
Thank you Handsome Jack! That'll be a nice setup!
Probably the best review I have watched in years.
That's great - thanks so much Felipe Wozniak!
Great job with the review! Well done. Enjoyed all the details and the screen testing you did.
Thank you Trent Walton!
amazing video. honest opinion and accurate testing and a very optimized and organized review. 10/10 Thank you.

1:11 wtf that taskbar shorcut :D
Sorry I didn't understand your question?
I order this monitor a few days ago,I can't wait to get my hans on
Hope it turns up soon!
Amazing review! Wasn't sure if if I should get it for christmas but I'm totally getting it now!
Thank you Tibby II! Hope it arrives in time!
@@TheTechnologyMan It missed Christmas :( but it arrived today and I'm really happy with it!
Thanks for providing your monitor profile!
No problem!
Excellent review!
I'm on the fence about going with this monitor or a 3440x1440 monitor for gaming. My graphics card seems to be right in the spot where it will become outdated for 3440x1440 rather quickly but will be overkill for 2560x1080 at 75hz (and 144hz 2560x1080 options are very limited). It's a bit of a frustrating situation.
Thanks Pahu! You could always play games at lower resolution until you upgrade your video card. It's not ideal, but perhaps an option?
The Technology Man what if you are not playing games, for productivity do I need a special graphics card for widescreen? Or will standard one on my computer be ok
I've bought it, I'm waiting for arrival, and your review only makes me feel happy for my acquisition, I just found this ultrawide monitor so cheap and very good at it specifications that I couldn't resist buying it.
I have a Titan V GPU with Ryzen 5 2600 and 24GB of RAM, it hope it will run smoothly at its peak refreshing rate.
You shouldn't have any trouble with that spec Rodrigo Mello!
dude, with you pc spec, this monitor will bottleneck your pc performance. you have money to but top notch pc parts, it's really weird that you buy this low mid-budget monitor. go for 27 inch 144hz ips monitor! or just 144hz TN for lower price.
@@maega20 actually, my main use of this computer is for research purposes, and regular office workloads, I usually play games but nothing that will requires more than it offers
@@RodrigoM3llo well, it is still weird, it's like having Lamborghini but with mpv/minivan wheels.
@@maega20 hahahah, I didn't noticed that you mentioned "you have money", this Titan V was given to me by NVIDIA, also they gave us (my research team) more 4 other high-end server GPUS, including Quadro P6000 and Titan XP, the main reason for buying this monitor os that I do not have the money for something better.
just got a version of this that is 100hz and has a usb c - cant wait to try it out!! thanks for the review
Must be a newer model - enjoy it!
You can also use AMD FreeSync on Nvidia cards but other than that awesome review.
Thank you 34L H445!
@@TheTechnologyMan I see at the time of the video you were right, Nvidia supporting FreeSync is a new thing, thanks for the video, definitely getting it.
Yes that's right - I'm using it now with a nVidia card and Freesync 😃.
Nice work, thanks for the solid review
For me the important is the 99% srgb coz I'm going to use it for professional use too but don't want to break the bank, really nice review, helped me make my decision.
Thank you shsleo!
This is what i call a REVIEW..the depth of it just amazing!! Keep up the good work
Many thanks!
Did you also go into Nvidia Control Panel and turn the 8 bpc to 10 bpc when turning the HDR on?
My friend who owns this monitor says it makes a difference, even tho the monitor is listed as 8 bpc, when it’s turned on in the control panel it shows in windows details that it has changed to 10-bpc.
Also I was told you need to turn on HDR in Windows before playing HDR games to make sure it’s turned on. So there’s a few steps to ensure that HDR is working properly and at the correct bpc for this monitor, but it works. Seeing a red glowing exit sign in Resident Evil 2 Remake on this monitor blew my damn mind.
I did buy this monitor for $189 USD just this week because of my friend and his love for the hdr in monster hunter world, sadly I have a defective backlight and need it to be repaired, though Lg is paying for shipping, parts, and labor.
Still annoying I will have to wait at least 2 weeks to get this fixed and returned to me.
Very helpful review btw tho, you do a great job!
I am going to try overclocking my monitor to 85hz as I’ve heard it’s possible, but am curious if you tried it at all.
Also freesync now works with nvidia graphics cards thanks to g-sync compatible ones the nvidia control panel and it’s awesome. It only works with HDR turned off tho. So for some games it’s 60hz hdr or freesync and 75hz.
Thanks Chris Anderson! I have it at 75Hz - I've not tried overclocking it. HDR should kick in automatically - does with the games I've played. Yes Freesync now works with my 2070 which is great 👍. I can't remember on the 8/10 bit setting - did play around with this at the time I did the review. It doesn't truly support 10 bit IIRC. Hope you get the monitor soon.
Dear bro.. well done.. liked & supported.👍Assuming you've used both 29" 21:9 & 27" 16:9 screens.
Does the 29" widescreen gives off a larger FEEL to it than the standard 27" while tasking and consuming media, although it's got less vertical working space and the difference in surface areas are negligible?
Can you please share your experience?
Thanks for the support! Yes I prefer the ultra-wide aspect ratio.
Fantastic review! Thanks for helping me decide on purchasing this monitor :D

I just bought the 500 variant and was looking for videos demonstrating if I was missing anything by the lack of speakers (only model numbers ending with "P" have speakers). It's nice to see that I'm not! Though it would also be nice to have HDR, it seems like I'm not missing much there either. What I'm really interested in is that monitor calibrator.
i recently bought the same model as yours and my screen freezes for a sec whenever im watching a video or something. is that normal?
@@Ghud23 It could be that your video card hardware or driver doesn't like the resolution. Update your driver first. If the problem persists, I think you can use these LG monitors as two separate 1280x1080 monitors by using both HDMI ports. This is a workaround for computers that don't support 2560x1080.
Do you recommend the 29WK500?
