These two curved 32:9 monitors - the LG 49W95C-W and Dell U4919DW - are basically the equivalent of TWO 27" standard monitors but with no bezels in between!
Dell’s U4919DW is a 49 inch, 32:9 super ultrawide monitor with a 5120x1440p resolution… and so is LG’s 49WL95C. But which one should you get?

Good lord, I'm crying here XD
There is really no going back. I've got one of these for work and it truly is a productivity machine. One could argue that it'd be much cheaper to just get 2x 27" Dell monitors side by side, but there's something about being able to place your windows anywhere within a 49" space. You have so much more freedom with this thing.
Maybe that "something" you're talking about is not having any bezels?
Heyy Deitrix. Which one did you get and how has it been now that it's been a few years? I'm in the market.
@@_....____......_ its more the fact that I'm not limited to having something on one of two screens, I can stretch it across the middle without bezels getting in the way.
@@stevenscott9639 I have the Dell U4919DW and it's still fantastic. If you're looking for something more gaming focused, I'd go with one of the Samsung ones, because the Dell is limited to 60fps. I mainly do programming, and a bit of casual gaming on mine, so the fps isnt really an issue.
@@Tresla Thanks for your reply! I won’t be gaming on it, but I will be using it for music production so will need to be able to zero in on hair line (ish) details in wave forms. I’m currently using the HP Spectre’s 15’ 4k screen (3840 x 2160) as my center screen with two additional HP monitors, one on either side. I’m hoping that this Dell super ultra wide screen comes close in terms of crispness to my HP Spectre screen cause I’m a bit spoiled. My aim is to wipe out all the clunkiness I have between using three screens, two of which are actually lower res than the middle one (grrrr!)

i have 1440 ultrawide and 1080ti
Running the two 49" Samsung 32:9 Super UltraWide and one LG 49" UltraWide 21:9 on dual GTX1080ti... no issues with FPS... SO yes if you are running dual 1440p or a single 4k monitor... then sure step up to a RTX2080(ti)... BUT it's not worth the extra expense if you are already running the a 1080ti setup currently. I get well over 100 FPS playing any game I want...
IF you are starting out new... then it would be silly to run a GTX1080ti over getting a RTX2080(ti) setup. BUT to upgrade right now is not worth the money vs performance gains... If my setup could not maintain proper FPS... sure time to upgrade... BUT currently 100 FPS is more then enough to enjoy any game.
What if you got it as a gift... Actually that's impossible

I always had problems myself with a dual monitor setup or the likes and heard so from other people. Constantly working on one or the other side of the desk puts strain on the spine and neck and can lead to backpain and headaches. Using three monitors (or a similar configuration) not only remedies this problem - if the main monitor is in the middle - it also boosts productivity by over 30% (as opposed to just over 8% with two - according to a study done by Fujitsu, if i remember correctly). When working on a computer for extended periods of time, I'd always go for a config with an odd number of displays. Worked wonders for me.
Almost 100% of LG's ultrawide IPS panel can be overclocked to 75hz. My own Dell U3417H can even be pushed to 80hz, a whopping 20hz or 1/3 higher than the factory setting.

LG re-releases this model every few yrs. It originally had suffix "-W" in 2019, then "-WE" in Jan 2021, now "-WY" in Feb 2022.
The -WE is currently selling for $900 on Amazon.
The -WY is currently $1k.
Those might just be special 2022 Christmas season prices because MSRP still says $1500
LG says it's the exact same model regardless of suffix and they only updated the suffix for tracking model yrs.
If only they made a monitor for one of my fav hobbies like sightseeing.... 4:03 YES! YES!! FINALLY!!!
Samsung CHG90 was the sweet spot for me. I'm running a overclocked 4790K with a 980 GTX (Computer's more than 5 years old now), and don't mind the 1080p. For me, more pixels means more work for my already long-in-the-tooth GPU, so the refresh rate was weighted higher in my mind.
So linus did not cover the Samsung CRG9 at CES. and he didn't even mention the CRG9 in this video. something is really fishy to be honest. Cause the CRG9 literally destroys these two monitors easily!. the CRG9 have a 5120x1440p, 120hz, HDR1000, 4ms, Freesync2 and VA quantum dot. to be honest this video makes me think of a favoritsm for LG. i mean linus didn't mention how bad and wide the LG stand compare to the Dell!
Not to mention that lg in general is utter crap, literally every tv or product I have gotten or bought that was from lg has broken in the craziest ways, I warn everyone and my family to stay away from lg untill thier products last more than a year without going nuts.
Thanks Linus for an honest and accurate review, this as always helps me make a buying decision. Cheers!
49" Ultra wide display: *Plays with stretch res*
It’s not always stretched it depends on the games. Maybe try one out. You can also play at 21:9 and 16:9 ratios as well and revert to 32:9 when you’re done gaming if you choose.
bruhhhhhhhh csgo 4:3 stretched to 32:9
I don't get the assumption here.
I have a 49 ultra wide and not a single game I've played has a stretched resolution, and almost every game I've tried plays natively in the resolution without any issues. Most of the time, the UI even scales and positions itself pretty well.
@@SikoSoft just curious.. what video card do you have and do you have to run games at 5120x1440p resolution?
@@og6517 actually, the resolution is less than 4k, so a 2070 super should be plenty to play most games at 60fps.
and yes. native only. upscaling just looks horrible. reguardless of the resolution
These give me hope for the 2nd gen will be better. Hopefully to see 4k and proper HDR. And that 144hz
I wanna see one of these panel manufacturers make a 48:9, for a single panel alternative to triple screen.
I also want to see panel manufacturers, including tv ones, to start adopting the move to 18:9, then eventually with double and triple wide variants.
Having worked for so long on my two Dell U3011 monitors (16:10, 2560x1600), I'm super annoyed by the lack of vertical real estate on these ultrawides. Weirdly, the only 21:10 display out there seems to be the LG 38UC99-W, which for some reason still markets itself as "21:9" despite being a 3840x1600 display. And those 160 extra vertical pixels add up -- that's just over 11% extra vertical space than you'd get with 1440. Imagine trimming the bottom 10% off your display, and you'll understand my annoyance. 16:10 seems like such a sweet spot, I dunno why it's not the default ratio (other than to blame television). 5120x1600 32:10 would be so much more preferable than 5120x1440 32:9. And, it'd get you just 100,000px shy of the same surface area of a typical 3840x2160 monitor.
I agree. It's pretty silly as that shallow height really limits the applications it's good for for productivity use. Even to watch a movie you're not going to benefit from much of that 49" width as the vertical height is capping the overall scale so much. I actually prefer shorter monitors ( to 2140 high) as I like the landscape format but 1440 is too short for most work. 1600 is the sweet spot IMO where there's enough pixels for the work and some interface but it's not so high that you're rendering too many pixels or just looking at everything at a larger scale. For now, the 38" ultrawides (3840x1600) are the only decent option for this. Also, this monitor looks like it would have a crazy amount of real estate but if I lay out the pixels in photoshop, it's not actually *that* much more real estate than a 38.

AbuBakr Akram not st all.
Important note about LG’s 49WL95C-W max Supported Resolution. It is not the same for all interface types: - 5120x1440p for both Display Port and USB-C , but only 3840 x 1080 for HDMI . LG has a poor product description on the site, and does not specify this limitation on the specs (which seems caused by they are using HDMI 1.4 and not 2.0 interface). On the LG monitor documentation (paper), this specification comes clearly detailed in interface matrix chart, but you only see it after buying or if been informed before by seller or any forum. I planned to use both Display Port and HDMI, and this limitation was not suitable at all.Hope that information is useful. I would have been to me if I had it before buying the product.

I’ve always loved Ultra Wide. I miss that form factor for sure.
Or just get any regular curved 4K monitor of your liking, and use NVidia quadrants to make it two stacked "ultrawide" screens.
Husky Dinosaur I’ll have to research this. Thank you.
Linus, you're not necessarily correct about this panel being easier to drive than a standard 4K panel. It may actually be harder to drive in some cases due to the increased field of view, meaning the graphics cards has to render more objects (and thus polygons) in the scene at once.
I have the CHG90 and was going to upgrade to the Dell for the higher res. But i've come to love the 144hz of the samsung, and now that Nvidia allows adaptive sync on Freesync Monitors, i dont feel the need to change anymore. Enabling Gsync on this monitor does work even though it's not in the compatible list. i've been running it since the January adaptive sync driver release with no issues.
whait for the next Samsung that has already been announced. 1440p x 5120p, 120hz. Naw we talkin
Am I the only one who noticed the title is wrong? 21:9?
So it is two basic 27" 1440p screens but it costs like 5 or 6 of them. Pure logic.
I've had a 21:9 LG 34" for two years now and I'll never go back to a 16:9. Looks like it's time to upgrade to even wider!
I don't understand why these monitors are only made in 1080 or 1440 vertical resolutions. The best screens I have ever had are Samsung SyncMaster 245B which feature 1200 vertical pixels, and I just LOVE those extra 120 pixels (the taskbar doesn't eat part of your image). Their 24" 1920x1200 monitors are awesome, and I want the same, just wider.
the stand on the Dell DOES SWIVEL dude, it's just more likely for the bottom to slip altogether on the desk.. so that's weird. :)
“2 steps forward”

That is what’s called a step
You should have waited for the CR9 by Samsung. All of this @120Hz.
Guys as a graphic designer I use multiple softwares at once, so do you recommend me getting one of these ultra wide displays instead of buying 2 separately?
Also how is the experience of watching movies and browsing? Is everything will appear small?
Great video, but one miss are the controls. Especially when using the monitor for work/music production that requires fine adjustments here and there. I currently use an LG 34 inch and the controls are the worst I've seen in years; the small toggle rarely works the first time you press it... So the controls, menus and options would of been great to see even if it's just for a few seconds... Maybe it's just me, but the continuous talk about pixels is getting a bit boring and repetitive... Cheers.
_This thing is too wide that my ruler can't catch up_
Who is your ruler? D:
Wouldn't you want a smaller display while FPS gaming to keep track of everything going on in your screen
Depends on how cramped you are able to deal with it. I assume a game with wide screen support actually changes the viewing angle.
Prefer 1600 over 1440 and it's plenty wide enough, Acer - XR382CQK, gaming performance is pretty good too.
Just bought the Dell, and I'm starting to think I preferred having two monitors...
The curve is way too weak, looking at the sides isn't very comfortable.
And a lot of fullscreen apps don't look great on the ultrawide - they fit much better onto one of two normal monitors.
Oh well, maybe I'll get used to it. I'll have to see if there's a way to trick my computer into thinking it is two monitors.
I can understand your point there. Also, those are the only monitor to have IPS LCD panel whereas everyone is sticking to VA panel. Since there is still no 32:9 IPS LCD monitor that support high refresh rate, I will definitely think of going back to two separate monitor solution.
I run dual Dell 49" side-by-side. I only use them for productivity/work stuff, but it's hard to work in another environment once you get used to it (it does take getting used to that much screen).
I got a 27” 1440p at 144hz and 24” 1080p at 60 hz.There is no way back after u used 144hz monitor, the mouse pointer looks blury at 60hz.
Thing is, we found that out about 20 years ago (back then we have also started to increase polling rate of mice, so it was a double-barrel). Since late 90's I've been using at least 75Hz on my CRTs (there was an annoying 'flickering' - felt rather than seen - at 60Hz). In mid 2000's I was running games on ~22" flat CRT with resolution 1600x1200@100Hz and with lower resolutions @120Hz (could go up to 2560x1440@60Hz and could switch resolutions easily, cause CRT do not have that awful native resolution!). I've bought that monitor for 35 british pounds (one of the inputs was faulty)! A few years later I've purchased gaming monitor (27'' widescreen TN panel 1080p@144Hz) for 350 quid! Needless to say, my satisfaction did not increase tenfold. Weaker Black Levels, much weaker contrast, narrower viewing angles and stuck with lower resolution. Slight increase in refresh rate was negligible. What changed for better: widescreen (16:9 instead of 4:3), lighter and slimmer (didn't bother me when situated on my desk), lower energy consumption. Swapping CRT for flat-panel was good for TVs, less so for PC monitors (although perhaps a necessary step to what is coming next). Hmm...I'm sorry, I believe I have digressed here a bit :)
I'll stick with 1080 ratio 16:9, my internet and GTX 980 can't keep up...
21:9 is a sweet spot. A 1080p ultrawide would do fine :)
I love 4:3, 8:5 (16:10) is bearable, 16:9 useless. I could also work with 8:3 and 16:5. Preferably >=2400p
2:12 check out out forum!
Need support for using this monitor: When i play Resident Evil 4 (Remastered version UHD-4K) PC game at FULL SCREEN, it cut 20% from top and 20% bottom of the game actual image/picture at 5120x1440 pixel 32:9 aspect ratio. If i want to see full image of game, i must change video settings from the game to 2560x1440 pixel and 16:9 aspect ratio. What is the problem? Do i must change settings of monitor to see FULL image on screen for Resident Evil 4 PC game. At this moment i have LG 32" nano IPS 4K monitor and i see the game FULL SCREEN at 3840x2106 pixel 16:9 aspect ratio. Please help me to solve this issue.
3rd line in the description, the LG Model name is misspelled.. It's written as LG 49W95C-W, but infact it's LG 49WL95C-W.
The model name is correctly mentioned in the "Buy LG 49WL95C" text though.
Moral of this video: wait to buy your ultra wide monitor. In a year or two all the bugs will be worked out and they will be half the price.
Yeah.... as always, just wait some years. Then something better will be there, which isnt perfect by then yet, so just wait some more years. In the end, youll never buy anything.
But hey, it saves money :)
@@FraktaleFatalitaet Nows the time to buy tvs or regular HD monitors. The 4k shit brought price down. Theres always a good time to buy something. Phones and game consoles have to opening day though just cuz
I can't wait till we have monitors with 1,000,000:2 resolution so i'll have to call an uber to see any of the far sides of my monitor. It will look like a bundle of those tickets you get at arcades all stretched out.
I get the joke, but people have been doing "wider" setups for decades using multiple monitors.
Lol I would have never thought that my 34” 21:9 monitor would be “small” someday 😂🤭
It isn't
When I moved from 34" to 43" I knew that someday my 43" would be too small for me. That "someday" has come and passed. I USE that real estate.
I wish the made the ultra wide monitors a bit taller like the 16x10 aspect ratio that was the standard before the "cinematic" 16:9 became the craze and the new norm...
A 32:10 or even taller screen would be so much useful at least for productivity..!
After using an ultra wide monitor for about half a year, I can certainly say that I'd go back to a normal monitor due to many of my favourite games don't take advantage of the extra width and instead cuts off the top and bottom (I'm looking at you Overwatch).
