🌙 ABOUT ME 🌙
Hi! My name is Alice and I love books! I read just about everything from classics to contemporary fiction, adventures to mysteries, fantasy to all kinds of non-fiction - and I love reviewing and recommending books, and just generally having a chat about literature. I also adore baking, hot chocolate, crafts and basically everything cosy, soft and peaceful. I currently live in Oslo, Norway.

You have the prettiest book collection I have ever seen
Oh thank you so much!! 🥰
These are one of my favorite videos of yours. And I love the little pauses before saying if you will get rid of something or not. I never know which it is going to be so the suspense is 10/10 😅
Hahaha love that 🥰😂
SAME!
I always find myself drooling when you do your annual unhauls. Such a wonderful collection of books! 😎📚👍
Thank you so much! 😍🥰
You should make a shelf or two your to be read section or get a cart to store them to keep up with reading them
Wonderful book collection. I enjoyed the video but one thing I really don't get in BookTube community, is one aspect of the Unhaul thing: I understand getting rid of books one didn't like or is not interested in reading again, what I don't comprehend is getting rid of books one never read. Never giving a book a chance, is not only a complete waste of money but also a lost opportunity of spending good moments with a possible good book.
It is only a lost opportunity if the book is out of print. One can always find a book in the future, in ebook, in the library, rom a friend who has it, or even a rebuy used. Taste and desire to read do change. You could say it is a waste of money, but shelf space is valuable, and time is more valuable than money, and even the most dedicated of readers should spend that time on books they really want to read.
Thank you! 🥰 I totally see what you mean, but sometimes I just lose interest in a book I thought I wanted to read. I’ll get enjoyment out of just getting a new book and having it on my shelves for a while as well, so for me it’s not a waste ❤️
I agree! Time and shelf space are finite. Most books can either be borrowed through LIBBY or (if need be) bought in e-form should one change one‘s mind. Though I am not as good as you in letting go of books I‘ve lost interest in (I‘m a huge sucker for a pretty cover!), I aspire to be and know I‘ll have to be when we are moving again in a few years.
A well curated book shelf is a thing of great beauty. The definition of „well curated“ being highly subjective, of course.
Love your videos! Happy reading from tiny-town Austria, 📚🐾🐾 Monica
PS: Have you ever done or will you ever do a Q & A where you share a bit more about yourself? I really enjoy „getting to know“ my fave book tubers a bit better.
I could definitely do a Q&A, I’ll add it to my list 😄❤️
@@TheBookCastle
Excellent! Looking forward to it. 😊
I enjoy seeing your books. I put all the books I want to read together on the same shelf. Whenever I'm looking for something to read I can check there first and not hunt everywhere for a book. Maybe you could try that so you don't forget you have a book? Or maybe you're happy with your own system and so you can ignore my suggestion. 😊
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, no one does a good book purge like you! 😍 let’s gooooo
Thank you so much!!! ❤️🥰
Alice, you truly have one of the most gorgeous book collections I've ever seen. This is how my ideal book collection would probably look! I love these videos!
Aaaah thank you so much!!! ❤️🥰
It would be great to see a video where you go through all the books you haven't yet read a a physical tbr number!
I love your shelves, they are stunning! Especially all of your classics.
That's a great idea! Thank you 🥰
I love when you makes these videos!!! ☺️
these are my favourite videos on youtube
🥰🥰
Love this video! It’s so cool that this is raising money for arts in school! I subscribed after seeing the crow on the shelf and knew I had made the right decision when you weren’t as enthused as everyone else seems to be about Piranesi haha 😊
Yay, glad you liked it! And welcome ❤️ Hahaha I love that 😂
Great job. I love the process and you make fairly quick decisions. You have way more books than I do!
You have the most amazing book collection.🥰
Thank you so much! 🥰
Love the book purges, it's always so relaxing to watch 😅
I'm so glad!🥰
Loved this! Have watched everything single one of your book purges :)
Yay! Thank you! 🥰🥰
You have such a beautiful collection! I’d love to see you to a book reorganisation video ❤❤❤
I love seeing which books people are willing to let go so that I do not buy them in upcoming used book sales. Thanks, Alice.
🥰
But people have different taste 😂
I always love spotting a really random book that I own on someone else's shelves. In this case, it's Spook which is in view at 26:00! I've never seen it anywhere else, which makes it a fun easter egg for me. :)
Love that! ❤️
I love seeing your book collection :)
Yay, thank you!
Of course, 🧡💛🩷 the Annual Spring Purge, it's like Dr Alice and Ms Hyde though. The whole year it's cosy mysteries, adventure books and brilliant reading selections.... then the 🪓📙🪓📗🪓 , so clinical, so brutal 😅. Maybe it's the looong 🇳🇴winter?? So much fun, such a glorious library
( ps I too read The Pursuit of ❤ this year, adored it 🤣, but I forgive you 😆 🌷)
Hahaha yes, perhaps! 😂
You have such beautiful books ❤
Thank you! 😍
This was oddly captivating to watch 😂. A bookshelf that has Emily St. John Mandel ("this is obviously staying") and I Who Have Never Known Men - shows me I'm in the right place. ❤
Love to hear it! 🥰 Yessss, both of those are some of my faves! ❤️
Great unhaul. I'll check out the others you have posted. Love your book collection, and your decisiveness, as well as the recognition that enabling reading of what interests you is the purpose of a library despite your appreciation of books as beautiful objects. I am a frequent re-reader, and it can be difficult for me to say, no, I can re-read a library copy of this if I really have the urge.
🥰❤️
Oh you might like The Disappearing Earth. I had it on my tbr for a while and when I finally sat down and read it loved it
This was really motivating to make me go look at my own shelves.
😄❤️
You have to read Rebecca ❤
You have a great eye, the covers are stunning 😍
Oh thank you! 🥰
I held my breath when I saw you touching 3 of my favorites but then they stayed and I was happy. They are Fresh Water for Flowers, The Lamplighters and The Glass Hotel just in case you’re interested! Beautiful shelves.
Thank you! 🥰🥰
Secondhand time by Svetlana Aleksijevits is amazing! And so is Purge by Sofi Oksanen! When they appeared on the screen I was so scared you'd get rid of them because I don't remember hearing you talk about them so I assume you haven't read them yet? :) so I was reaaaaaaally glad that they got to stay on your shelves!
greetings from Finland (where it's snowing again, hope Norway is bit further ahead in this whole spring-coming-thing)
I’m really looking forward to reading both of those 😍 We had some snow here yesterday morning, but it melted right away and it’s slowly starting to get a little bit green, so I feel like we’re getting there 🌷
Thank you algorithm for showing me this video! Babe I’ve been binge watching your videos all morning ❤
❤️❤️❤️
You need to read Rebecca! And My cousin Rachel is even better honestly, even though it's not as famous.
I read Between shades of gray and loved it, it's well written, the story is great, the romance lovely, and most of all it's historically enlightening. She managed to write a book that tackles a very heavy subject in a way that makes you believe in humankind again somehow.
❤📚 I enjoyed this video so much!
i also couldn't get into beautiful world where are you, but my library had it on audio and now it's my favorite book
Love your channel, Alice! Always exciting to see your notifications 🤍I loved The Cloisters, I vote to keep it! 🕯️🕯️the headmasters wife was also a perfect recommendation you made, loved it! 🍁sidenote: I live in the US and ordered the ring you have on from Shop Dixi and i can’t wait for it to get to me! It looks beautiful on you, and I hope it works for me! 🌙
Thank you so much, this really makes my day! 🥰🥰 Ooooh I love that, I’m so happy with the ring so hope you like it too 😍
I haven't watched the video yet, but I have to let you know, your hair looks incredible! 🖤
That’s so sweet, thank you very much! ❤️
Spring cleaning!
🥰
Please, try Nabokov's "Glory", "Speak, Memory", "Luzhin's Defense" - they are marvellous. Happy that you gave chance to his poems, too.
If you didn’t like lolita because of the subject matter (understandably), I think you should give Nabokov another try, the rest of his books aren’t that controversial and his writing is amazing. The Real Life of Sebastian Knight is one of my favorites
the ones you are getting rid of see if they have the audio book at the library then you can listen to them while doing chores around the house. You still give it a chance but you also get crap done at the same time. haha thats how I do it with my books I dont want.
Your video really encouraged me to go through my bookshelves, and make some space. I've a nice set of bookshelves now, with my best books organised, and a messy one, with many that are waiting for a new home, or disposal (don't gasp in shock, people in comments, because they are second-handers that have already lived a very full life, before their spines gave up the fight). I'd not heard of book purges before now, but watched a few videos to face the disorder and cramped conditions of my shelves, and after rolling up my sleeves to the task, find myself with little islands of space opening up, which I won't feel bad about filling again. I like the idea of doing this task yearly, since it's not nearly as hard to do as I'd imagined, and I think your collection of books shown here look really beautiful.
I love this!! ❤️
Oh good. I thought you'd like feedback, and you deserve lots of credit for motivating me with your nice vid.
Very impressed with this unhaul! You really let go of quite a few. I’ve stopped reading contemporary romance pretty much myself including Emily Henry and Ali Hazelwood. I’m keeping my Piranesi and Cloisters books though 😉
Yay! 🥰🥰
Just here to leave my yearly appreciation comment for these videos ❤
Always appreciated 🥰
I love death books too! I just got a few Mortuary Confidential undertakers spill the dirt by Kenneth McKenzie, Past Mortems by Carla Valentine, Stiff by Mary Roach
Ooooh love that 😍
I was onboard until you decluttered The Pursuit of Love. 😳
Oops 😅
Haha same. I've not read it, but I want to and I've heard it's good.
I'd really enjoy a review video about your death-themed book collection. Please!
If you search on my channel for “books about death” you’ll find it! ❤️
@@TheBookCastle Thank you!
Pale Fire is so good and could not be more different from Lolita. Would at least read a bit of the poem (its main part) as it's really beautiful!
I need to know what flea market you deliver to, because some of these books are right up my alley 🤩
I've never read Pale Fire, but I've heard it's supposed to be incredible (and people have found it better than Lolita). Maybe give it a chance!
I love this! I can't help but ask what lipgloss/lipstick you're using? I'm so envious lol
Thank you! It’s the Superstay Vinyl Ink in the shade 40 🥰
@@TheBookCastle Thank you so much!! xxx
I highly recommend reading Rebecca, The Dictionary of lost words and The light between the oceans. All excellent books I noticed on your tbr shelves. Also, have you read Circe? If you like Madeline Miller, I think you’ll like this one.
I have read Circe and loved it 😍
Love this look at all your books!
If you are at all still interested in romance I think The Kiss Quotient is really good, much better than the Ali Hazlewood books 😊
Thank you! 🥰
I am curious to know what your favorite book about death is! I also love to read about death and would love a few suggestions. :)
I’ve done a video about it! 😄 If you search for “books about death” on my channel, you’ll find it 🖤
@@TheBookCastle Even better. I'll check it out, thanks! 😎
❤ love from Thailand. 😊
🖤🌻
Which eyeliner do you use?
Your makeup always looks great 🤩
Thank you! It’s the Epic Ink Liner from Nyx, I’ve used it for years and love it! 😍
That Piranesi copy is gorgeous!! Where can I find an edition like that!!
The ISBN is 9781526622426 if that helps ❤️
I'd still recommend Nabokov if you hated Lolita
❤❤❤❤
❤️
I didn't like Piranesi either! Boring. Felt like the odd one out because everyone seems to love it.
How many editions of the secret history do you have? I think i counted 3!
3 is right! 🥰
@@TheBookCastle Wow! The white one is super pretty. I own the black!
You can read norwegian? That's so cool!
Yes, it’s my first language 😄
@@TheBookCastle Oooh i didn't know that 😅 I thought you're american haha
Makes sense since I probably sound American 🤠
Wait you're getting rid of The Book of Human Skin too?? 😂😂 Gawd everyone hates this book including me. I should get rid of mine too.
How do you justify buying more with so many unread?
I don’t feel like I need to 🥰❤️
I share your controversial Piranesi opinion 😅
Good to know it’s not just me heheh 😅
Saying 'these ones' or 'those ones' is grammatically redundant. Saying 'these' or 'those' is sufficient. You have a lovely collection.
Woops 😅 oh well. Thank you! ❤️
P.S. forgot to ask: you don't seem like the kind of girl a "controversial" bk. would bother. So why did you u haul some?
Just didn’t want to keep them 😌
