Great video. I'd say if you're starting out, a skid steer is the easiest way to make money. But they are a dime a dozen and everyone has one. Excavators on the other hand are more rare and take a little different skill set. Get both if you can afford it. Great message.

Sam, that power rake is a fine tool. There is a learning curve to be proficient with it. I have an 84” smooth drum vibratory roller for my Skid Steer as well. Very handy for those driveway jobs. Kind of pricey, but they hit pretty hard and saves bringing my self propelled to those jobs. I agree with you, that a skid steer is probably the best first unit to buy. And with all the attachments out there for them, it is such a versatile tool. Wow, what a great message ! Thanks for posting !

I could write a book on the issues that’s slowed the light grading, clearing and forestry mulching businesses. The main thing is the economy as everyone agrees, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. To be clear, I’m one of the RUclips taught experts in the field myself. One major issue I’m our area is that everyone with half decent credit has equipment since the pandemic hit back in 20’. With a flooded market in our area, you get folks cutting the bottom out of rates since they have the payments to make. We worked full time running two machines for over three years making a good lick with 6-8 weeks bookings at all times. The market started to deteriorate in our area in mid 22’ so we scaled back to weekend warriors in November of that year and went back to the daily job. I’ve always been told by the old timers in the business that you can go broke working for nothing just as easy as keeping the machines at home and not wearing them out. I hear a lot of guys say that your work always speaks for itself and can allow you to command a higher rate than your competition, but that’s not entirely true in an economy like we’re in today. Most people are just trying to survive and can’t afford things that aren’t absolutely necessary. Hopefully things change for the better next year and everyone can get back to making a a decent living 😎 Great job on the videos, keep up the good work!!!
Yeah that sounds about right! There are a lot of skid steers and mini excavators running around for sure. I’m hopeful things will crank back up a bit before the end of the year or at least early spring. Thanks

Hey Sam, glad to hear y'all are finally getting some rain. We have had the opposite problem here in central NC, the rain we are getting from the hurricane remnants will put us somewhere between 15-20 inches of rain in the last month or so. Our ground is just saturated. I haven't had a drop off in work except for about 2 weeks back in August. Other than that, I have been wide open(minus the rain days). I'll agree with what you said about the power rake, that has been one of the best investments I've have made. Jobs that used to take me 5 hrs to do can now be done in 3 hrs or so. It does a great job. Thanks for the video and the message. Stay safe brother.
Glad to hear you are still staying busy Jeff. I will probably do some advertising in October after the pond job. Been kind of nice not being stressed trying to get from one job to the next. Wow, yall have had a lot of rain. 😳 God Bless
Self employed carpet installer in Venice Florida and we've been slow for 6months or more. Only working 2 or 3 days a week. This hurricane will give us some work. Alot of flooding along the coast
Been pretty busy for us Sam but probably gonna slow down soon. Economy is terrible. Great looking driveway job. Gotta love that miracle rake. Thanks for sharing the message. God bless.
Keep the driveway work coming, I love doing driveways. My next attachment for the Ventrac. I did a driveway reconditioning and parking pad on Monday of this week. Great job on this project! AMEN ON THE MESSAGE!
Yes my window business in Chattanooga (Windowworld) has been down 10-15% all year and we’ve been around over 23 years. On a side note I’ve got close to a 1/2 mile gravel drive in Lafayette, Ga. That I would love to have you do one of your restorations. It’s a mess.

Hello Sam..Nice Job Buddy, That looks really good ! I think it’s great when someone takes the time to share the why and how to’s when you’re doing a job 👍🏻 As far as work goes here, things are starting to slow down a bit. I do believe it is part of being an Election Year also. You’ll be covered up again in no time ! Thank You for Sharing the Message , Take Care and God Bless !

Great Job Sam! I’ve been looking for a used miracle rake. Thinking I will order a new one to have for many years down the road. Things have gotten very Slow in the last few weeks! I actually called my business line to make sure it worked. Couple odd jobs and that’s it. It is fall up north so things do pretty much stop for the winter. Keep up the great work! Thanks for all you do. God Bless
Thanks Dave and based on the comments it’s kind slow all over the country. A used power rake could be a mess to deal with. The ones I have seen used have been beat to pieces. A new one would last you a long time.
I’ve been lucky I had about two weeks in August. I was slow and right now I’ve got work up through the middle of November plus some volunteer work too.
My phone is not ringing for new homeowner work . Just some commercial stuff that has be in the works for a long time. Probably gonna finish out the season try not to spend any money and wait it out till spring
Yes, I am experiencing a slow down in demand in the Charlotte, NC area, too. I hear the same thing from some other buddies in this area, too. Normally, in the month of September I turn down more work than two of me could do. No so this year. I sure would like to live and do well out in the country like where you live. We deal with insane traffic, and all kind of craziness in the city.
Yeah, I’m hearing that from a lot of folks for sure. I’m generally booked up for weeks during this time of the year also. That traffic would drive me nuts…🤣🤣🤣
hi sam thanks for another good video! Was hoping to see how you finished off the road, did you use your bucket to smooth it out? I started to specialize in these driveways and I shape and then compact with a watering system to help create the longest lasting product. keep up the good work
I basically shape it with the rake and then track it in. The rain does a good job of packing it in but that watering system is a great idea though… Thanks,
You sure do a lot of really pretty properties. Looks like a great place to be a kid, or raise kids. I don’t know if I can recall you doing a driveway out of asphalt millings, but then again my memory is probably worse than yours 😅
Yeah there is a lot of cool properties around here for sure. Great place to live! I haven’t done any projects with millings. When I’ve checked on them they have been a bit pricey…
Yeah, that makes it nice for sure. That was the reason for buying the bigger trailer to be able to haul both. The ole Ram 5500 likes it. 🤣 The GCWR on the Ram is 44k it’s definitely a beast of a hauler…
Yeah it's slow this year, but not as bad as it was in 08-09. Slower than the last few years for sure. Cash is not flowing like it was. I've got a similar setup to you-- a 304 and a 259. I do a lot of driveways and drainage like this video. You ever think of getting an angle plate for the bucket for the 259 so you can tilt it to do the ditches? I've been thinking of getting one to be able to really taper the ditch and not grab so much of thr gravel.
Yeah it seems to be like that all over the country. I have seen those angle plates and have thought about getting one. I think it would work pretty good. Thanks, Sam
I’m an owner operator business in autobody out in Harriman TN. It’s been really dead lately, Especially the last 40 days. Been building a road on my property with the extra time. Price low & get what you can.
Great video, things have slowed down for me in Blairsville, GA in the north GA mountains as well. Maybe its the election that is making people hold on to their money a little tighter.
@@mikewhittemorejr Mike I think that is what it is too. Have had a few folks comment that have had businesses for 30+ years and they are saying it’s due to the election cycle. Hope we get back to normal soon… Thanks, Sam
No one is spending money on things that are not urgent or required. Spending money is dried up. Hope for better results after the election. Hope America will put this country first and not just their personal pride first. GOD is and will still be in control.
Tom the GCWR on the Ram is 44k. It is a Ram 5500 and it is a beast for towing. It has exhaust braking, transmission breaking and disc brakes on the rear. It is pretty impressive with what it can pull. Thanks, Sam
Yeah everybody's got tight, including myself I will normally start spending a little money the end of October or November due to tax man telling me too but if things don't go right in November and we have four years of crazy Kamala I don't think anybody's gonna be spending any money.
This one is an Fmax 210 and is 35’ long. That stands for 2 axles rated at 10k each. I would like to have a Fmax 216 which has 2 16k axles and shorter like the 32’ model.
@@tristardiggin I ordered a 32 ft 212 rated for 26k. It’ll definitely take a little getting used to especially since it’ll be my first gooseneck. I’m coming from a 22 ft bumper pull tilt deck
I was in air conditioning and electrical business for over 30 years and I can tell you your slow down is election year especially a large difference in political ideas. Probably won’t pick back up till February.
With the state of the economy and the costs for food, fuel and housing climbing daily. Everything is taking a hit and until the costs come down there will be slow downs in the trades unfortunately.

God Bless
Self employed carpet installer in Venice Florida and we've been slow for 6months or more. Only working 2 or 3 days a week. This hurricane will give us some work. Alot of flooding along the coast
Jacob that sounds like what I’m hearing from other folks from around the country! Maybe things will pick back up soon…
Thanks,
Sam
Been pretty busy for us Sam but probably gonna slow down soon. Economy is terrible. Great looking driveway job. Gotta love that miracle rake. Thanks for sharing the message. God bless.
Ron glad y’all staying busy. Will probably do some advertising in October after vacation…
Yeah that rake is great.😀
Keep the driveway work coming, I love doing driveways. My next attachment for the Ventrac. I did a driveway reconditioning and parking pad on Monday of this week. Great job on this project! AMEN ON THE MESSAGE!
Thank you Mark. You will love the rake for sure!
God Bless
@@tristardiggin yessir, thank you and GOD BLESS YOU brother!
Hey Jacob I’m familiar with your business. Been seeing your commercials off and on for years. That’s interesting that your business has slowed down too. I’m hoping things pick back up after the election cycle.
Shoot me an email with your contact info and I will get with you on the driveway in Lafayette.

Great job and message I enjoyed it
Thanks Keith and glad you enjoyed the message!

Hello Sam..Nice Job Buddy, That looks really good ! I think it’s great when someone takes the time to share the why and how to’s when you’re doing a job 👍🏻
As far as work goes here, things are starting to slow down a bit. I do believe it is part of being an Election Year also. You’ll be covered up again in no time !
Thank You for Sharing the Message , Take Care and
God Bless !
Thanks Evert! Yeah I believe it’s the election year. We will be back to normal once this passes.
Nice work Sam.. Hope your work picks up buddy..
Thanks Gary, I appreciate that!
Great message.
Tony I appreciate that!

Thank you for your messages , they are helpful and some like this one are like wake up calls! This video was fun and educational, never stop learning, always seem to pick up something from your videos!! Thanks again for you effort on the messages and videos!
Hey Brian I feel the same way! It’s a good wake up call for sure. 👍
Glad the videos are helping out some. I can say I’ve learned a lot from watching folks work on RUclips…
Im in middle TN and it's slowed up here on the excavation/landscaping side. Making firewood bundles to make up for it.
Ben that sounds like the way we are all in. Cool you have the firewood business to help out…
@@BENNHENDRICKS33 there is going to be a lot of cleanup and other dirt work after this storm, y'all stay safe.
@russellsmith3825 yeah, definitely going to be a mess to clean up.
Thanks
Awesome video and message,we just got home from NQC it poured down, remember Jesus promised us that you would never leave us or forsake us. You are an ambassador of Jesus. Thanks
Thanks Kevin! Hope y’all had a great time at the NQC.
That’s right, he will never leave us or forsake us…

Nice job.
Thanks Skip, I appreciate you watching…
🙏❤️ Love from Scotland ❤️🙏
Thanks, I appreciate that! 😀
Amen brother!
Thanks! 😀
They really need a load of to riprap on that edge that is washing
Yeah it could use some along there for sure…
I’ve been lucky I had about two weeks in August. I was slow and right now I’ve got work up through the middle of November plus some volunteer work too.
Hey Raymond that sounds great! Looks like you will be busy for a bit…😀
@@tristardiggin picked up some storm work today
@raymondgochenour8725 nice…
Just checking on you tonight seeing how things in your world going
@@raymondgochenour8725 going good, I think the worst of the storm is past us now
My phone is not ringing for new homeowner work . Just some commercial stuff that has be in the works for a long time. Probably gonna finish out the season try not to spend any money and wait it out till spring
Same here Steve, not much going on. I’m thinking that is a good plan and looks like I’m going to do the same…
Yes, I am experiencing a slow down in demand in the Charlotte, NC area, too.
The rain does a good job of packing it in but that watering system is a great idea though…
Thanks,
I’ve been 2-3 days a week in Pa all year. I do residential and it is drying up
Guy we are in the same boat. Work has definitely dried up for me as well…
Hello sam stay safe
Thanks Jim! 😀
A water truck would be helpful in that situation. Or some type of watering system on that power rake.
David I sure could have used some water on that job for sure.
Thanks
You sure do a lot of really pretty properties. Looks like a great place to be a kid, or raise kids. I don’t know if I can recall you doing a driveway out of asphalt millings, but then again my memory is probably worse than yours 😅
Yeah there is a lot of cool properties around here for sure. Great place to live!
I haven’t done any projects with millings. When I’ve checked on them they have been a bit pricey…
I like how you can haul 2 machines at once. Seems like a lot to pull though.
Yeah, that makes it nice for sure. That was the reason for buying the bigger trailer to be able to haul both. The ole Ram 5500 likes it. 🤣
The GCWR on the Ram is 44k it’s definitely a beast of a hauler…
@@tristardiggin that’s awesome!
Thanks,
Sam
Same thing here in Ohio went a whole month without any calls this time of year are usually booked out 3 months
Seems to be a common thing accross the country from the comments that are coming in. I’m usually booked for 8 to 10 weeks during this time.
I’m an owner operator business in autobody out in Harriman TN. It’s been really dead lately, Especially the last 40 days. Been building a road on my property with the extra time. Price low & get what you can.
Hey Steve that’s interesting that your business is affected too. Hope things pick up for us before long. Wish you well on your road project…
I've wanted a small excavator for years but just can't pull that type of money together.
Yeah those small excavators can do a lot of work.
Thanks,
Sam
Great video, things have slowed down for me in Blairsville, GA in the north GA mountains as well. Maybe its the election that is making people hold on to their money a little tighter.
@@mikewhittemorejr Mike I think that is what it is too. Have had a few folks comment that have had businesses for 30+ years and they are saying it’s due to the election cycle. Hope we get back to normal soon…
Thanks,
Sam
Like that you put gods word in your videos that's how we as Christian get the word of God out to the people. Amen
Hey Lee, that’s right! Share the word to show the way to Christ!
God Bless,
Sam
No one is spending money on things that are not urgent or required. Spending money is dried up. Hope for better results after the election. Hope America will put this country first and not just their personal pride first. GOD is and will still be in control.
Yeah I agree with you on that for sure! God is and always will be…
God Bless
Howdy Sam
Howdy Tugboat!
Mine has slowed a little for me up in Ohio, still moving but slow.
Yeah, sounds like a lot of us are in that shape too.
Thanks…
How about a 200’ verti block job in NKY?
That would be a cool job to do! Where is it at? How tall? 😀
How much weight can you pull with that dodge Sam? Is it a 1 ton?
Tom the GCWR on the Ram is 44k. It is a Ram 5500 and it is a beast for towing. It has exhaust braking, transmission breaking and disc brakes on the rear. It is pretty impressive with what it can pull.
Thanks,
Sam
Ya it's really slow I work in mid Michigan
Hey Victor that seems to be the case for a lot of folks…
Thanks,
Sam
We are slow too I work in construction company.
Jacob I’m hearing that from other folks as well. Will probably pick up after the election.
Thanks,
Sam
Yeah everybody's got tight, including myself I will normally start spending a little money the end of October or November due to tax man telling me too but if things don't go right in November and we have four years of crazy Kamala I don't think anybody's gonna be spending any money.
Yeah things are tightening up for sure. Hopefully things turn around soon…
Thanks
What’s the trailer rated for? I’m looking to buy a diamond c this weekend
@carlospascual5919 you will love that trailer. Diamond C makes a great trailer for sure
I was in air conditioning and electrical business for over 30 years and I can tell you your slow down is election year especially a large difference in political ideas. Probably won’t pick back up till February.
Yeah that definitely sounds about right! Kind of enjoying a little break here at the end of a busy summer…

With the state of the economy and the costs for food, fuel and housing climbing daily. Everything is taking a hit and until the costs come down there will be slow downs in the trades unfortunately.
