This was the first video of yours I have seen. I was glued to it the entire time, enjoyed the teaching and explanations of what you were doing. Then the end just the icing on the cake. Thank you for the message, I will for sure be following you after this!
i pray God blesses you and your channel tell your blessing spill over!!! i got my new hip two days ago and God has blessed me its been a two year sturggle but he has never left nor forsaken me! my not have been early but always on time cant wait to get back to work and being able to function again! thanks again !!
I have had a Harley Power rake since early 2000's and I agree that is a needed attachement and works great on driveways, top soil and yard prep, and it will grind ice. I do several parking lots through the winter and it keeps the ice shaved and less slippery. Next and also needed is the SR3 rake from ABI. Very good finish rake that is easier to learn then a power rake. ABI has several great videos showing the difference and when to use which one. I use the SR3 rake more now but still own two power rakes.
Hey that’s great info! I didn’t know about the ice, but we don’t have much around here. I will look at the SR3, I don’t believe I have seen one… Thanks, Sam
Good job on the driveway and the message. I like the helpful hints teaching moments also. Been subscribed for a little bit now and I like helping my local people out to!
I'm pleased you didn't get lost locating this job 😂 Both access roads are on a par with each other. The owner was obviously taking an interest in the other road and decided to let you do something about it !! I have not seen any Harley rakes or similar on this side of the pond, I have seen box blades and tractor mounted attachments that do the same job. They are definitely a handy attachment to have in your arsenal 💪💪💪 And your tripod survived better than your camrea, have a look at DJI, there are some channels that use them, they may work out better for you, Sam
Alex that’s true, should be no problem finding the place.🤣 Yup, those rakes do a great job. That poor ole tripod barely made it through that little mess…😳😀 Thanks
Thanks for the good message today! I bet the video was very helpful to a lot of people, it looked like most drives here in nc , nice instruction on how to fix, appreciate your time and effort!!!!
Close call on that fiber line. Let the grass grow back and the homeowner can call it in as an eroded line. Your messages hit as well as your work. Thanks.
Well dang, I thought you were going to show off your tailgating skills in reverse there for a minute. Lol. You are 100% correct about a power rake, that thing is worth it's weight in gold for doing yards. I try to do a pass north/south, then east/west, and diagonally if possible. It kicks the trash off the surface and smooths a yard up better than anything else I've ever used, and is quick too. It was a great investment. Thanks for sharing the video and the message Sam. Stay safe brother.
Well, I would show off my reverse spreading skills but those skills are non-existent. 🤣 You are definitely right about worth its weight in gold. If I could only have one attachment other than a bucket that would be it.
Thanks for the video! It would be great to learn more about the materials that are best suited for driveways in our climate. Your advice is always spot on!
Great video and explanations about why you do what you do. Watching your videos is a lot like watching Columbo. I know you're going to do masterful work. I have to pay attention so I'm ready for your Columbo ending. I try to figure out how you'll tie the job and message together at the end. Today's message was particularly good with a great tie in.
Hello Sam, I really enjoy your videos, I first came across you when you was on idigit4's video, I enjoyed it so much, I've quickly subscribed to your channel, and I haven't regretted it since, I do enjoy your scriptures and food for thought at the end of each video, thank you, God Bless, and take care.
Hey Donnie, you have been here for a little while then! I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel. Certainly glad to hear you are enjoying the message too! God Bless
AMEN on the message brother. Why would you not use the power rake on the driveway again after the rock was spread to sharpen it up a little more? It looks good the way you did it, just curious. I hope to get me one for the Ventrac before much longer. Thanks!
That would be cool to have one on the Ventrac. If you run the rake over it after the new rock it would tend to mix it with the base rock that was there. Which wouldn’t necessarily be bad except it wouldn’t be as clean. After a few rains it will really harden up and look nice. Thanks
Thank you! That irritating rattle is the metal bracket that holds the cab up as a safety latch. I had it zip tied so it wouldn’t rattle but it broke free. I cinched it back down now though.🤣
Great video Sam! Quick question, up here in Western PA we usually use “57’s” or #2 limestone and top with fine chips, or sometimes use what is called modified-it has dust in it so the driveway “locks in” after you run on it. Is that what you used for this drive? Also awesome message and great to hear you bring attention to the Very Near Rapture. Thanks for what you do
Pretty much the same method is used here. On a new road I generally do a 1.5” to 2” rock and then top with crusher run which has a lot of fines in it to help compact it. I did use crusher run on this driveway… Thanks, Sam
Hey George, I appreciate that! Ah, there is always something else on the radar. 🤣 All in all I’m pretty satisfied with what I have but probably the next upgrade would be to a 289D3 skid steer. Little bit more power and weight than the current 259D skid steer.
Great video and message. Thank you from Shelby N.C. Did you watch any of the America Legion World Series? It was in Shelby in the last couple day's. Over now.Troy Alabama won it.
I will say fiber out here where I am is deep thankfully. On those rakes, can you lift each side up and down independently like a grader blade? Or are they fixed with the slope if your machine? Enjoyed the work and message sir!
That’s cool that they bury it good there. I wish that was the situation here too! The CAT version, that I have, is stationary. There is a brand called Riki’s Rake that has a pivot point that will follow the contour of the ground. Thanks and God Bless
That is good to hear. Around here we are lucky if they are just a few inches and it may be in the middle or right along the edges, like this one. Seeing one 12” deep would be a welcomed sight. Thanks, Sam
Here if the fiber optic isn’t minimum 24 inches deep and we hit them if there not that deep we are not responsible by county code. Also maybe the homeowner needs to call in the free locate service before the job is started.
@@Gooditalian here it's 30 inches in the state RW but on private property for customer drops 12 inches is better than most cable provider are doing. And here the contractor doing the work is responsible to make his own locate calls. Working on someone else's ticket is the same as working on no ticket at all.
@SovaKlr That’s great, glad to see those things buried that deep. I think that’s why they are so shallow here, they don’t want to hit anything. Makes my jobs tough to do. Thanks for the info too…
Hey Sam, any reason you don't put your skid arms in float mode when you back drag the "humps" out of the driveway? I find it foolproof...no operator input needed.
I always learn from your great videos. With finesse you skim off the tops of the high spots until they are gone. Another great demonstration! Your videos always show me that less is more and slow is fast. Your work always turns out with a better grade and takes much less time in the end than taking out big chunks. That is the finesse that you show and I am trying to learn (slowly) from you. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!😊 As to the comment about using float mode, I’d have to actually try float mode myself in this situation, but empirically it would seem that float mode would be the opposite of what you would want to do, and what you did here. I’d want to keep the bucket high as I believe that you were doing so that only the tops of the “whoop de doos” are cut, and the bucket does not float down and cut any of the material in the valleys.
Hey Michael I appreciate what you said and glad the videos are helping you learn. I too have learned a lot from watching guys on RUclips do the work…😀 Thanks
Really depends on the condition of the road. If it’s a new road and fairly firm 4”s of a 1.5” to 2” rock would work well and then topcoat with 4” of crusher run or 57’s. An existing road in good shape could be reworked and add a couple inches of crusher run or 57’s. Lots of variables when adding rock. Thanks, Sam
I love taking old over grown stuff and making it new again. Great Job! I laughed out loud when the tripod fell out of your bucket.
Brad I’m with you on that! It is satisfying to get a place looking good. That tripod is on its last few lives it seems…
