February 9th. A memorable evening spent at the magnificent, majestic ColiseumTheatre in London, where I watched with mixed emotions a very different version of the opera Carmen. The orchestra, lead singers and chorus were superb, the clarity of Tenor Mr. Sean Panikker amazing,as for the charismatic Baritone Mr. Nmon Ford, stunning voice, a perfect Escamillo!
Off to see Carmen at Coliseum on Feb 17 with my wife. Saw it a few years back and it was brilliant then. Really looking forward to it. Long live the ENO. ❤
Very impressive. I could actually understand almost every word. I tried to listen to someone else sing it in English but I would have understood more in the French, and I don't speak French.
The lyrics and the music are meant to blend. The French lyrics are more suited to the music. Some composers wrote different linguistic versions of some of their operas, like Verdi with Don Carlos. But I don't think Bizet did.
Great voice but ENO hear this: delivering Opera in English doesn't help to make it more accessible at all in fact many listeners will still need subtitles at an average Coliseum show, and the whole thing just sounds so clumsy. It is now the year 2023 maybe it's time to rethink your policy?
I disagree. I love the originals but being able to understand the story without interruption is a real joy. I can also share my love of the music with my child without putting him off because it's too confusing.
I agree, not because I'm French but because I think that the work of a composer with his librettista is unique and that the language has a music of its own. But this singer has a fantastic voice.
never heard before lyrics in English - does not matter... an incredible (and simple) work of art!
Wow… this must be what it is like to hear it in its original language. It definitely hits the heart harder than reading subtitles.

I've heard alot of men sing this Toreador. His voice has something special. Unique. The way he caressed that final pitch was glorious.
I feel the same, how is he not at the Metropolitan Opera?

2:21-2:30 needs to be in the opening of FNaF movie. I love this musical before fnaf so i think its cool that its in the game.
Great rendition
You are my FREAKING HEROE!!❤❤❤❤😮
Esse negro canta demais!! Solta a voz, negão!!!
Did bizet double check for all the translations.? This is a real thrill, ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

the english version lyrics are not a direct translation to the french lyrics, but they keep the same general "idea" of the song -- escamillo bragging
@@ProfGlitch It is not a matter of meaning. It is a matter of sound in my opinion. The French language is more suited to Bizet's music.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

where can I see the lyrics of this?
Can someone share the lyrics please…
The real ones of the translated ones?
I came back here one year after posting my question 😂, the lyrics of this English version
It sounds like Broadway music jeje but its interesting in English. Nice voice!
I need lyrics pls give it to me i really need it
1:27 for FNAF fans
Uhh the animatronic characters do get a bit quirky at night
Opera sounds much better in the original Italian language than in English.
Carmen
Can someone do subtitles

It's Lefty
Fucking wonderful.
There is no place in the world of opera for foul language like that ...
Show some class
@@PurpleShaman121 Carmen, known to be a classy opera.

Sounds weird in English
Love it especially for the pre schoolers. Didn't know his reward was love.....

Performing in English makes it more accessible Yes! It's not a crime!
@@catarinaleal7781 definitely not a crime , it just sounds awful and where is the accessibility? I can't understand what they are saying.

This is exactly why musicals beat operas.
@@qzxertyHe sings very clearly and is easy to understand. I enjoyed hearing this in English for the first time. The performance was incredible.
Great singer. Pity for the language.
Italian or french opera in English is terrible. Sorry for the uncomplimentary comment.
Bizet's Carmen is french.
Sorry. Ofcourse. My mistake.@@nihilistic9927
