@@ANDRIANASPATHI That's an intersting statement. As far as I know, Callas never actially interpreted Carmen on an opera production. She did sing and recorded some of the arias here and there, and indeed she did it remarkably well, but to say she was the best on a role she never actually played is quite a stretch.
Elina Garanca is better, not only for the voice but also for the interpretation; for me, she's the best Carmen, nobody else will be like her in this role. Caterina Antonacci is beautiful and very talented, but she's not very natural on the stage.
Elina is much better, better at all! She sang and played from the heart, I felt this flirtation, this fire of love looking at her without even understanding the language of speech, but it was damn hot! I love how she performs her roles in the opera, putting all her emotions into it... How hot she is in this song! ouch! Black hair color suits her very well.
Elina, Elina, Elina. !! There is more subtlety, more color, in her voice. Her one on one focus gives the feeling of intimacy and inward sensuality as oppose to the outward theatrical presentation of the other artist.
As a French listener I can only say that Antonacci’s French is absolutely perfect… Her vowels are incredible! Now of course, Garança may be better vocally or dramatically… Personally, I prefer Antonacci… 🤷🏻♂️
Simplement sublime.
Anna Caterina Antonacci is a soprano and it really shows, her voice lacks the depth Garanca has, it sounds playful, yet not seductive. Carmen is a femme fatale, she's wicked, Garanca manages a better deliver of the character without making crazy faces. Her expressions are seductive, while Antonacci seems out of place. Because she's a soprano, she opens her mouth a lot, like...A LOT (like...bro I can see her molars) to deliver notes that are ment to be potent and rich, classic for a mezzo, which makes her expressions look weird and deranged from time to time. Garanca just has a better understanding of what Carmen is and the ability to perform her.
I do not agree, it seems to me that Elina is darker, she lacks charm and sensuality and her interpretation is very bland , Elina's voice is better in my opinion for Mozart where her deep voice is optimal.Antonacci has souft, sexy femenine, her permormace is better is very sexy, her dance in "Les tringles des sistres tintaient has more cadence and sexuality
For me Elina Garanca is the best Mezzo I ever heard! She clearly surpasses Maria Callas in this role! It's not that difficult because Bizet wrote Carmen as a Mezzo. Yes, many sopranos sang Carmen - but every time they do something is missing in their singing! Clear winner: Elina Garanca!
That´s lie in fact Garanca sunds more like a Dramatic soprano, real darker mezzo such Borodina, Podles in her prime was closer a mezzo, Baltsa so Garanca has a beautiful voice but we speak so much saying is the best. And about Carmen in fact wasn´t write for a mezzo, Cause mezzo voice wasn´t real category in that time, carmen was composed for Célestine Galli-Marié who was closer to sopranos roles than those we considere mezzo roles.
I had not realised what a brilliant actress Elina was until now. She has such a wonderful voice and beauty it is easy to overlook how brilliantly she performs.
I see a lot of commentators saying Elina had depth of voice and a good presence, while Anna was a bit more raw. I think Anna was working for an audience in the building, not camera. Elina’s expressions and her haunting good looks takes me further but both are incredible. A nice video. Thanks.
A great contest ! Beware of the staging, you might unconsciously prefer the staging of one over the other. Elina Garanca's interpretation is the best of the two, more natural; and I prefer her voice, the timbre of her voice. Bravo depuis Montréal.
They both sing wonderfully. However Garanca is a much better actress. The teasing, flirting actions are perfect for the lyrics. She also manages to interact with the other actors, which is rare in opera singers.
Anna Caterina Antonacci is the best because her voice sounds richer, like a Stradivarius Violin. Her facial expressions and the interpration of the song is better. The lighting and the dress lets her stand out, it is very easy to know who is singing. The dress is red and describes the song wonderfully.
Elina Garanca is the best. Excelent vocally. And very good actress. Anna Caterina Antonacci is soprano, don't mezzo. The role of Carmen is not for her voice. Maria Callas and Angela Gheorghiu (sopranos) sang the Habanera better. But the role of Carmen is for mezzo!!!
I love them BOTH!!! Anna definitely fits the description from the original book in 1845. Which she is described as "having eyes like a wild animal." That and other descriptions in the book are exactly what Anna looks like. I would say she definitely looks "gypsy" more than Elina. But Elina is the one that got me into opera. She's my all-time favorite! But I love them both.
Eyes like a wild animal - but not with rabies! Sorry but she seems like an insane witch who should go to a psychiatric therapy. This isn't "sexy" at all. If I would see someone like this as a man, I would definitely run out from the whole country. Elina shows the true instinct of Carmen. She has a confident, manipulative attitude who plays with men like toys. And also she's not scary. 🫣
I love both Anna Caterina and Elina. But here I prefer Anna Caterina. Elina is perfect, too much perfect... Anna Caterina is not only a wonderful singer, she is live, seductive, dramatic...
It was great to listen both singers but my favorite is Don Jose and Roberto Alayna is perfect. (These productions are much better than some new "Carmen's.)❤❤❤
Zdecydowanie Elina Garanca. The best.
Both Elina & Anna Caterina are AMAZING! I had originally preferred Anna Caterina but with this side-by-side video, I now think that Elina’s version is slightly better! Better acting and since Elina is a mezzo-soprano, her singing of Carmen is more natural, very much like my reference version of the great Teresa Berganza! As a French speaker, I do appreciate and love Anna Caterina’s French enunciation.
The second singer is more of a busto soprano and I thank her for that. But my heart was captured by the first one. She can be cruel, but what of it? C'est la vie.
Both are amazing in their own right much like jazz theres too many components to simply aim all of the key implications that both of these opera singers can bring about with natural ability. Now for the key notes in each of their performances me personally Elina gave about that black widow esk type of performance, her love as presented seems gentle and serene and when your guard is dropped she strikes for the kill. Caterina to me gives off a much more subtle feel much the same as Elina but the smoothness of transition between lyrics makes me feel Caterina as Carmen seems more crazed in a sense. While Elina comes off as much more calculated and in control, seductive, deceiving, and overall powerful all in the same. Even though she shows her crazy you can't help but to chase. Love both performances either way, I wish we had more plays performed like these two
Garanca…! She is vocally amazing but she also has that bewitching look and beauty Carmen must have. She is awesome…! Antonacci is rather…masculine to my taste.
Garanca here is performing better, her 'appeal' is genuine. The comparison is not quite in 'fair play' limits.. And Elina's voice is richer imho. And she is definitely looking and sounding more 'Spanish'..
Elena Haranca is a great singer, but her acting is limited. Anna Antonacci is a great singer and equally a great actor; Carmen was a tease, sultry, and seductress. Ms. Antonacci fits the bill perfectly!!!
First time I have watched opera and the girl Elina, is so natural, it's scary. If its about intimidation, control and independence, the girl has it in spade fulls.
I wish I had something positive to say about these kinds of comparisons. They are as fruitless as trying to decide which ice cream tastes best. Is chocolate better than pistachio? Each of us will have their preference but it doesn't make one better than the other. In this case I like both versions yet my favorite is still Leontyne Pryce as Carmen.
Elina!!! Her interpretation and such subtleties…I believe she is Carmen. She embodies Carmen.
The best Carmen was Maria Callas.
@@ANDRIANASPATHI That's an intersting statement. As far as I know, Callas never actially interpreted Carmen on an opera production. She plays Carmen as sexy, but also crude. She plays her over the top, but still believable.
Elina is much better, better at all! Elina is the best performer Bravo Elina Great performance !!!!!!!!
Braovo Bizet!
As a French listener I can only say that Antonacci’s French is absolutely perfect… Her vowels are incredible! Now of course, Garança may be better vocally or dramatically… Personally, I prefer Antonacci… 🤷🏻♂️

Absolutely agree
Garanca is a soprano too, just trained as a mezzo.
Garanca is a soprano too, she says she started as dramatic soprano. her voice sound strong in chest but not so dark
I do not agree, it seems to me that Elina is darker, she lacks charm and sensuality and her interpretation is very bland , Elina's voice is better in my opinion for Mozart where her deep voice is optimal.Antonacci has souft, sexy femenine, her permormace is better is very sexy, her dance in "Les tringles des sistres tintaient

-Mezzos rock.

Teresa Berganza y tantas otras mezzos.
That´s lie in fact Garanca sunds more like a Dramatic soprano, real darker mezzo such Borodina, Podles in her prime was closer a mezzo, Baltsa so Garanca has a beautiful voice but we speak so much saying is the best. No words can describe either of those performances .... I can only say " Wonderful"! I LOVE OPERA !!!!!
The pleasure of seeing Opera also lies in hearing the different interpretations of the same work
Two greats mezzos.
Sublime diva ,musique magnifique !!!
I love both Anna Caterina and Elina. But here I prefer Anna Caterina. Elina is perfect, too much perfect... Anna Caterina is not only a wonderful singer, she is live, seductive, dramatic...
Elina. Sans hésiter. La plus grande Carmen.

¿Qué tal Del Monaco, Corelli.... interpretando a D. José?

Antonucci la Voz perfecta!!!👏👏👏👏👏👍
Elina Garanca is Carmen come to life. Hands down.
Buenas las dos. Pero Garanca tiene una voz más sensual.
Antonacci senza dubbio! Femminile, suadente, piena di chiaroscuri...
Both are GREAT!!!

Elina Garancha THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elina ever
According to me Elina is more class

Like Elina most. More natural

I beg to differ,
Antonacci has that big slut energy that defines Carmen.
Elina...no doubt! She is 😮!
I Like both a lot, cant really say who ist better. Maybe Elina a little Bit.
There. U said it.
I'm no expert but in my opinion Elina's performance was much better than Anna's. I'd love to see a full performance with Elina in the lead.
elina
J'adore....GARANCA !!!!
Elina Garanca the best❤

Anna Caterina is my choice! Very pretty!
J'adore GARANCA !!
Elina Garanca
Antanocci forever
Antonacci, hands down. Garanca is extremely good but in the newfangled, trendy musical way.
Whose performance is better? Elina Garanca vs. Anna Caterina Antonacci
Anna Caterina is way better I could understand her french clearly as the other one not so much
ELINA! 💯❤️🌹
Both great mezzos, both with the musicality and looks, but I will always regret that Angela G declined the part!
Both are great ❤
What a woman. Thank God she didn't waste her time studying medicine or law. She found her calling.
Elina ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Elina ❤❤❤
Elīna! 👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
ANNA❤
And the way she peels that tangerine is genius.
Exquisite
