I started my locs on extremely short hair. I braided the roots and 2 strand twisted the rest. I started off with small locs but I ended up combining soooo many of them throughout the first year because I ended up wanting thicker locs. I didn't have a parting system, either. I went from 150ish locs to only 91 😂 On July 1st, I'll be 2 years in and I'm soooo happy with how my locs are flourishing. My advice to anyone starting locs is to learn how to get to the place where you're your own loc goals ❤️
This all depends on the density of your hair. I’ve seen people with thick AND full locks. I have 35 locks and you cannot see my scalp at all. I have dense hair.
Full locs was my goal and I have fine strands but semi dense hair. I have 79 locs which gives me a good medium-large size like I wanted. My parting is a little ununiform but I have c shaped parts that differ in size based on location. I literally pulled each part to gauge how it would feel with weight and made the size according to comfort. I love my locs, I wouldn’t change a thing about them 💓
So true. I have fine hair and I have 122 small locs. I'm 1.5 years into my journey. I feel like it's starting to fill out as my locs mature and get longer. You definitely have to be realistic with your hair texture and density. I felt like if I would have chosen a thicker loc and bigger parts it wouldn't look as full for my texture and density. I will see how they continue to progress. 💖✌🏾
You are so right!!! I just cut my 2nd set of locs off and I wish I would have started with fuller locs, bigger locs are not for fine hair!!! My ponytails and styles were not full 😢 but I’m starting over by the end of 2023
I never realized the difference until you broke it down this way. I’ve been one month loc’d. With this knowledge you’ve given, I think it’ll actually help me enjoy the journey more ❤️🙏🏾 thank you!
girl, i like your locs . its so pretty. let me tell you my journy with locs. i was in a phase of my life where i was cofused and so cut of my locs again and again. this time i feel ike i'm ready. this december i'll get instant locs.
This was really informative. I needed to consider all of the things you mentioned before starting my locs, but I didn't know any better. So, although I'm ok with how my locs turned out, I should have been more careful with my parting and such at installation time since I wanted full locs and not thick locs. As usual, I enjoyed watching. Great content!
Yesss, I totally understand what you guys mean. But like you said we didn’t know any better , but as long as you still love your locs right now . If y’all decided to start another set you’ll be well prepared 🙌🏾☺️
Was finally able to watch it! Thanks so much for making this video. Such a great topic and I feel like it's not discussed enough. Haha I obviously want both and all of my loc inspirations leaned more on the volume spectrum than thickness. Though there is that perfect midpoint! When I initially got my locs my loctician did a beautiful job but definitely didn't listen when I was explaining how important volume is to me (I have thick, high density hair) and she gave me 70 locs. Which would have given me beautiful thick locs but I didn't necessarily think it was the right number to give me the fullness I wanted. After two months I got some of them split bringing the number up to about 126. I'm a couple weeks away from 1 year and I am so soo glad I trusted my gut instinct because my locs are so beautiful to me!!! Thick and full!!
Awww that is awesome! I’m glad you got the fix them in the beginning before they started to mature . Happy to hear your loving your locs and enjoining your journey!🥰🥰🙌🏾
I literally texted my loctician today after my appointment because I counted when I got home and only have 69 or 70 and I definitely want a more fuller look, more volume so I’m going to get that fixed my next appointment
You are stunning 😍! I did my research before starting my locs, but apparently not enough😂! I definitely should have started with twists or coils because I want thick ones. But I chose interlocking. Now at 6 months I’m FINALLY really starting to like how they look🤗! Great information in this video 👍🏿! Thanks for sharing ❤️!
Hey Chyna! You're looking fabulous! And those locs... wowee! Never would have guessed your loc count number... seems like you have many more. I am 6 months locd and was VERY surprised to find out that I have many different textures mixed all over my head. When I was loose natural, I thought I was 4C all over. When I locd my hair, I am really only 4C in the crown. I have 4A and 4B and even some 3C in places. I installed with two strand twists but had to switch to braid locs in many places. Now the locs that were braided are looking great to me. The locs in the 4C crown were two strand twists and I'm a bit disappointed in the appearance. But who knew this would happen? Any whoo, I love all of my locs. Different personalities of all 218 of my babies. Love your channel! Thanks for sharing!
MY Beasley I thought I was the only one to discover I had different textures of hair in my head when I loc’d it. I knew the back was 4C and I discovered the crown was 4B when I went natural. Now i’m seeing another texture which may be 4A. Learning a lot about locs.
wanted to start my loc journey in November. But the loctician said my hair wasn't healthy enough and gave me advice on how to make my hair healthier. She said I should come back in March. I can't wait for my journey to finally start😍😍
I have quietly peeped in since I began my journey. I look forward to checking in as you have been instrumental. Thank you for the inspiration. Loving and enjoying the process and trying not to anticipate the length as much as I do, but I have gone back and found myself amazed with your growth. 🥰
Thank you so much for making this video. I have 60 locs , and I love the thickness of them, but I’m kind of insecure about how little volume I have (especially after a retwist they just fall flat lmao). I didn’t know there was a difference, I thought if you had thick locs they would be full. I’ll use this information when I comb these out and start over eventually lol
I think it is better to start with smaller or medium partings which will lead to a smaller or medium locs. Then wait and see how the locs are maturing. One can always combine locs to get thicker locs. But splitting locs to make them thinner is a much more difficult task.
One of the few things I've learned after being loc'd for ten years is your locs will not look like anyone else's!! I would love sleek locs like you have, but I have very floofy hair and therefore very floofy locs, despite using conditioning treatments and hydrating treatments. you could, however it wouldn't match the thickness of your new growth
My hair is thick and I have multiple textures
Ohh niceeee! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
How many locs do you have?
I have 112 locs
Can we talk through a video call please, I want to start doing lock, but it would be better if I talk with someone please
Hi you can email me or message me on my business IG
Hi I wanted to ask I’m interested in getting locs ? But my hair is thin on the sides do you think getting them will help grow back my edges and thin hair on the sides?
Yes
You and your locs look beautiful 😍
How many do you have?
Thank you!! And I have 112 locs 🥰🥰
I just subscribed to your channel
Thank you I appreciate it 🥰
Do you know the width of your locs?
No I do not, sorry .
I start with instant Locs for my second set and I wanted thick loc. I have very soft hair so I notice now I have some thick and on the side it not. I have low density hair but it fine. In my profile pic that was my first set of Locs and she did 180 some were so thin while some medium but I have full locs . I didn’t like the thinnest so I cut my Locs now I start with instant locs . I can’t wait to see how thick some get since I only have 42
Awww well I hope this new set you like and enjoy them better! 🙌🏾🥰
I have 45 and I have both thick and full especially when I don’t retwist my new growth is crazy
You are beautiful 🤩
Thank you! I appreciate it 🥰

Anyone can have thick and full locs. Just dont retwist them and let them grow once you get your parting. 😂
