Yo yo , I seen Tommy last Saturday night in Melbourne 28th may and he is everything you can imagine live on stage , next level. He was the complete band. Your face says it all mate great reaction 😊
I listened to him a few years ago on a Kings of Strings collab, he played with Stocello Rosenberg and a Macedonian guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski. It was a treat! I've heard Vlatko for some 30 times, but it was first time to see Tommy live. I hope not the last time.
Paused again at around 26.00. Yup they've been touring together, and they played various dates together before the current tour. Amazing together, aren't they? Really hope they tour the UK together at some point. Musical highlight of my life was when I played a duet with Tommy onstage at one of his guitar camps (Scotland). I was awful, overcome by nerves, but TE is a true gentleman and he nursed me through the piece. Some of the points he made in this interview he covered in the workshop sessions on the camp, playing alongside the amazing Frank Vignola, how two players complement each other by covering different registers during the performance. Tremendous experience.
I'm currently in Iceland at his camp with Mike as well. I met another guy today that went to the Scotland camp. His name's Vincent. Awesome player. Particularly good at gypsy jazz.
@@mrssriplo1 You're a lucky man. I considered Iceland (briefly) but the pricing structure was beyond my pocket this time. I'm guessing you're writing about Vincent Schmidt. Worth checking him out on RUclips, if it's the same guy. He's just got a new album out, or it's out very soon. Excellent player. Perhaps you'd have a word in Tommy's ear and say that there's a lot of us waiting for another camp in UK or at least mainland Europe. It's a month short of five years since he did one here..... be great if Mike did it, too!
I've met Tommy a couple times over the years ,brilliant humble guy makes you feel right at home - even signed my guitar years ago. I've seen him after a concert in 2017 and said "your signature faded" to which he replied "I hope I didn't" - made my heart smile
If you haven’t already seen it, you’d get a kick out of a live studio performance by Tommy performing his insane arrangement of “Classical Gas”, it totally beats the original version 👏👏
Wow...I've only discovered your channel today. I've known Tommy and was a babysitter for his child back in the early 90s. He is an incredible guitarist, struggled with substance abuse, great Dad and man. Wish him nothing but happiness. Ty for showcasing a smidge of his talent. Cheers from Melbourne Australia 🙏 🌏 💙
Oh 6 hrs ago - are you and they still going ? 😮😅❤ In my misspent youth I would go to his brother Phil’s gigs - electric bluesy rock in pubs and clubs. He passed away in 2018 I think it was. So sad. Tommy is one of the greats. I love to watch your face during this reaction. Who needs words? One of my favourites MG. Totally
Just saw them perform these live tonight in Reykjavik Iceland as part of Tommy's guitar camp. Tonight was the first night of camp and included the first part of the instructor concert (also included Joscho Stephan and Jerry Douglas). Seriously incredible and entertaining and definitely worth the insane amount of money we spent to go on this trip. I also got to hang out with Tommy yesterday for a while. I have a few videos posted from it. I could only post them because camp hadn't started yet and it wasn't anything official. Just Tommy messing around and one of him and my friend practicing a song. I had also practiced a song with him and showed him a few other things I'm working on but didn't record it. If you ever get the chance to go to one of these camps I definitely recommend it.
The two most magical acoustic guitarists in the world together, absolute sonic bliss!!! I’ve followed both of them for a long time, and yes I’m a wannabe but never gonna get there 😂 Great reaction Mike but hey, it’s not difficult to find plenty to say about them 👍🏼
Brilliant - lovely reaction ❤. I'd caught pieces from this get together but not the whole recording. Started following Mike Dawes as well in the last few days. Even though I do not play music I find it fascinating listening to Tommy explain how he plays. I've also being enjoying your insights into others playing guitar as a reactor. I keep thinking back to the fact that Tommy was in a band from the age of 5. He played so much with his brother. Now seeing him play with others - you see the joy & respect he shows to others.
Love our Aussie Tommy ❤ This is as brilliant as expected. Have you experienced Tommy with Billy Strings? There's a Guitar Boogie jam that's pure fun and skill
Mike has a similar affinity that Tommy had when he played with his late brother Phil. I’m really pleased that they’re able to enjoy this high level of mutual musical understanding (as explained here from 22:00 onwards) and we’re able to enjoy their experience too!
Yo you need to react to Classical Gas by Tommy!!! But I think you must have seen it. I like his modesty, praising Mike at every opportunity. I heard someone say after a gig Tommy asked if any wanted to jam backstage and her son put his hand up. He wasn't very good but Tommy was happy to give him a nice lesson.
@@michaelgoyettemusic ruclips.net/video/2itG18uDDiU/видео.html "Tommy Emmanuel impressed by Ari Ettinger's guitar skills, and calls him up on stage". :D
Yo Yo Michael. I just got my ticket to see Tommy Emmanuel in St Paul in Oct. Keep up the good work, heard you naming chords in that last Warning video, all helps.
I think you're leaning more towards a teacher than a reactor. I loved when you stopped one of your videos and named every pedal on the board. Let the haters hate. Not everyone out there can show us stuff, and who just want raised eyebrows and wows.
Having been a drummer at one time in his career Tommy is superb at rhythmic variations in his strumming, he plays many different strumming patterns (one cannot almost question if they are patterns at all because he doesn’t seem to stick to any one very long). Plus, his syncopations are always on point, well-timed in the piece and add tremendous flavor to the song. If you haven’t already done so watch his live, open-air performance of “12 Bar Blues in the Key of E” to see an exhibition of both his strumming and lead versatility, it is the single most impressive performance I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen him in concert 8 times. Definitely impressed by the insistence on carrying the nail file with him, if that's uncommon for guitarists who aren't playing classical.
He’s a tone chaser…..it’s got to sound perfect.
