    They should do a similar scheme around Salton City to really revive that place and its recreational past and potential future... That would really get that city booming to its designed population of 40,000+

    I live in Minnesota and have never lived in California. Even I know there’s no revitalizing the Salton Sea. The New River is pumped full of raw sewage and industrial waste from Mexico. Where does it flow? North into the Salton Sea. This is a grift for CA bureaucrats.

      The Salton Sea needs to be refilled with freshwater. The more it dries up, the the more the salt from the dried sea bed will blow through the air, poisoning the nearby ecosystem, poison crops, and cause a surge in airborne diseases. The new freshwater will clean out the toxins from the water. Just look at what happened to the Aral Sea.

    Step one, have Elon Musk bore a tunnel from the ocean to the Salton Sea. This will maintain the water at sea level with salt. Step two, build a solar power plant using the salt water. Step three, use the salt for roads, the desalinated water to suppliment Lake Meade, and the power can go to the grid.

    • @stickynorth
      @stickynorth 5 месяцев назад

      Also extract all the lithium from the brine since it's the largest single source of it in North America! Salton City should be the lithium capital of America if you ask me!

    • @Mr_Dopey
      @Mr_Dopey 5 месяцев назад

      @@stickynorth Anything is better than what it is. I believe it's geography and weather make it the perfect solution to the water shortage from Lake Mead. It's below sea level and they even talk about evaporation pools in the area. With a tunnel to the ocean, it's an endless supply of water without pumping. A mirrored thermal plant would accelerate evaporation. The steam can be collected while also turning a turbine. This is now distilled water and power. The only problem is what to do with the minerals left behind. It sounds like the minerals there are valuable, as they tend to be.

      Says who? It's been full of water many times and 1000 years ago it was part of the Sea Of Cortez. I can see the sea-level bathtub ring on the rocky hills. Ships used to come in as far as Indio. Besides that, you can never restore it to what it was by simply drying it out after 100 years of agricultural runoff. If all the playa is exposed you'll need a respirator in Palm Springs and maybe even the Coastal cities. The air will not be breathable in ten years at the current rate.
