    Aloha Elias. Not gonna lie. I’m not from the east coast, and it took me time to appreciate you. That said, I appreciate the no bs, I’m not gonna lie, and especially the dark humor. I’m 61 and feel like I’ve been following you for decades, just be you and true.

    Just fish strictly for largemouth by throwing the most overpriced 3/8 oz spinnerbait u can find into a foot or less of water at the bank anywhere on the NE Cape Fear for consistent Bowfin entertainment...works everytime. Thanks for consistent uploads! Take care

    We call those bowfins….grinnel, here in MS. Those were a prize catch to us kids fishing in every bayou and ditch some 35+ years ago. True story…when i was 10-12 years old, me and friend caught one 4-5 lbs using a piece of bologna as bait. We filled up a plastic kid’s pool with water from the house hydrant and put it in there. Later that afternoon we went back to check on it, and his dad, from south Louisiana had scaled it and it was in the fridge. Those are one of the most fighting fish pound for pound. Thank you for the vid. Brought back a lot of memories. Thank you again. God Bless

    I'm 53 and I finally found the perfect kayak for me. Old town sportsman 106 powered by Minn Kota. Its worth the money. I'm so glad I didn't spend the extra money on the 120. Its a completely different kayak.

    Hey Elias. On a personal note. I'm 76 just survived Open Heart, plus 3 additional stints and Dec.26th I'm having my carotid artery cleared on12/26. I'm looking forward to getting back in my 120 auto. Mostly primitive launches. I may move down in weight to the ePDL weight. Meh it's actually heavier so nevermind.

  • @mulletoutdooradventures6286
    @mulletoutdooradventures6286 5 месяцев назад +2

    Primitive launches 😂. I got a 10ft Jon boat I put retractable wheels on. I slide it in the bed of my frontier and go wherever I want. I got a little 4hp Johnson and the trolling motor on the bow and it's the best. I can drop it anywhere. Any body of water around the Philadelphia area I'm patrolling 😂. I wish we had bowfin and gar up here though. When is a little warmer there is a decent snakehead bite in some of ponds, Schuylkill, and creeks. They are very frustrating sometimes

    Per your earlier video and the feedback about cutting the tag off the fish - that's what the NCDMF recommends. And yes, the tags are sometimes too dirty to read/photo when trying to release quickly. The hats are nice too! You should share details from the data they send you (besides the spot you're fishing) in a follow up video. I caught a Striper 2 years ago that had been tagged pre-Florence - 7 years prior. Was fascinating to see how it had grown and how close it was from where it had been tagged initially.

    In south GA, we called bowfin blackfish. We would occasionally do a fishing trip just for them to one of the nearby creeks and we'd first catch some small brim or better yet redfin pike and use just their bottom belly as a jerk bait. Easy to catch them with that bait. I remember one night about 1am we checked some set hooks we had put in the creek and caught a blackfish which we took home to feed to the hogs. We left it on top of the dog box in the back of the truck and at daylight when we started out to check the hooks again since the bowfin can breathe air it was still flopping around.

    Maybe 1 in 50 stripers i catch on the upper Roanoke will have duller almost brown stripes and they tend to have yellowish fins, always wondered what the deal is with them.
    The bowfin are super hard to target, best way i figured out was running cut bream 1ft under a bobber, giving the bobber some action draws them in, then they see the cut bait. They will not hit topwater tho, they'll just follow topwater baits, thats how i figured out the shallow cut bait under the bobber.
    Theres a stretch of goshen swamp in duplin co where i would target them in the summer, super unique spot, no big boats would be perfect for a yak.

    We call those Choupique (shoe pick) in south Louisiana. Bowfin, Grinnel same thing. Great fight. They are actually pretty good to eat. The trick is that you have to keep them alive until you're ready to clean them. Dispatch them, clean them and keep in an ice water slush, but cook them quickly thereafter. As long as the flesh is firm, you're good to go. If it gets soft, trash it. I've only fried them, but they were very edible. Give it a try if you ever catch one from clean waters that's not contaminated.

    For me, the kayak connection can't be beat. I grew up fishing NYC reservoirs where we had to renew a license every year and keep the boats chained up at the lake. The advantage was there was no motors aloud. Fishing pressure USED to be light. But it was you and the whole damn lake. The kayak is the same for me, closer to nature, I love watching the Kingfishers. I can get back in skinny water where the boat traffic is not. I paddle only, I debate spending the xtra money for the peddle kayak but I need the work out. I respect a kayak fisherman a HELL OF A LOT MORE than joe blow with his motor boat (had 3) and I won't even watch charter captain video's. Most captains are WHORES who could care less about the fishery, it's all about money. Great video as always. LOVE LOVE LOVE the bowfin ! Caught about a 6 pounder in up state NY, one of the best fighting fish for sure. If you could target them Elias it would be a fun video.

  • @jtuck682
    @jtuck682 5 месяцев назад

    Very interesting Elias, Muto at submission fishing recently did a winter tips fishing podcast. Your video demonstrates the challenges and rewards of continuing to fish during the winter months. It’s really a bummer that the waters you fished although being productive, the fish are rendered inedible because of contamination. Since I do most of my fishing on party boats it's not likely I’ll ever fish from a Kayak. I noticed you always maintain contact with your bait, even on long cast you wind-up the slack after the pop so as not to miss strikes. That why your content is great to watch , even if one doesn't own a Kayak.
