I find it hard to believe that someone would pay $14k for a watch and not get it authenticated first. A guy was selling me a $4000 used breitling $9000 new for $1300 It seemed to good to be true so I asked him to meet me at a jewelry store so some one could verify it's real and he refused to and pretended to get offended so I just told him to kick rocks. So yes be smart about things!
I sold a Rolex to a guy and he wanted to meet at a dealer to make sure it was legit. Half hour later the dealer comes back and tells him its all legit, I hand him the watch and I get an envelope full of cash. Smiles all around.

Such a bummer to see these watches go to people who buy them ONLY for the purpose of showing that they can afford them, instead of for the love of beautiful craftsmanship in watchmaking. What kind of advice is: “if you can afford a GMT, skip the Sub”? In this case, skip the watch altogether. just tie 20k cash to your wrist with some string and leave the watch for someone who is looking for either a sub, or a GMT, because they want to own a sub, or a GMT.
I saw a documentary about the Chinese “clone” watches industry a while back, the high end clones, which costs around $1500-$2000 usd, according to experts from that documentary, those clones are so damn near perfect compared to their authentic counterparts, you can only tell it’s a clone if you opened up the casing, and some of the clones even use authentic parts… it’s crazy how they do that… IMO, when it comes to luxury timepieces, I rather spend a little more at a reputable dealer than risk getting a fake.
There are still signs that both these guys and some of the sellers of the reps can tell, regarding the inside they may look the same but the materials are nothing alike, for a top end clone in the uk your looking about £500 no such thing as a swiss copy etc they are all chinese factories that produce these a lot have recently been closed down

I gotta tell ya, i had a fake rolex once. And it was actually a real nice watch lol i knew it was fake but it was a great watch. I wore it quite a bit. Sold it to a friend at the time for almost nothing wish i had it back
Why not just buy from a watch market and bargain. These guys buy from there as well. They posted a video on it. Cut out the middle man and get the watch for cheaper
In most instances i would yes to your comment but ..these ppl facilitate to an array of customers including the not so knowledgeable, also its apparent they are willing to go the extra mile to come to the customer if need be .
If you've got five or six figures to spend on a watch for your collection, a 1-5% markup of a few grand is a very cheap price for expertise, trust and especially convenience. Never underestimate a wealthly persons spending limits for convenience. It's like buying a private jet, but worrying about the cost of the champaign flutes and China onboard. It's just not relevant to the larger discussion.
True, but some watches can be tremendous investments that increase in value dramatically. Right now watches are hot and if you're smart and lucky you can make financially good watch purchases.
If you are a buying a Rolex go to a dealer yes it's more expensive but it's legit and that's what matters. If you have $30k to spend on a watch then pay $60k for a real one with papers.

Margin most likely. Its also probly a 20k + watch if hes flying out or a very good customer if its a lower value watch. Customer service is key. A plane ticket is also probly 100$ for normal of 300$ for business type.

He's flying out for the purpose of selling a product/service in the course of business operations. Not only is it a smart business move its not going to end up costing him anything long term and he'll likely get some skymiles too haha.

1 word. Resale. A Rolex is an investment. Plus you can fly internationally and sell it and not have to declare you are bringing in over $10k. Just as good as cash.

Depends. There are some that are amazing. I bought a replica breitling back in the day (young and poor) and it’s one of my favorite watches period. I have several watches that are in the $2000+ range and I like the fake more. It’s been running perfectly for the last decade and looks stunning.
for a good rep, they will not fall apart. You can service them just like any watch. Depends on what movement they use. Durability-wise, the exterior, etc (non-movement parts) will most likely last as long as you don't slam it on the ground, etc.
