Please note: We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy.
A few people asking whether this new unit is compatible with the older Platinum series ecu's. The answer is Yes. It uses the same CAN protocol, the connector is just different.

I feel like a lot of less experienced people would benefit from a video about how to select correct wiring sizes for certain applications, maybe you guys could even do a basics series? You have a pretty straight forward, no bullshit way of explaining stuff, which is hard to find.
Yes! With tips on where to source the weather proof connectors and tools needed. :-)
Fuckin’ YES PLEASE!
+1 for this
@@rayg9069 So pricey. :'(
Yes.
I know this stuff but most people I help with wiring goes blank when I tell them that "You don't need 6 mm2 for one Led bulb" Or you might need something better than 2 speaker cables for your starter motor.
Yes. I can see that you use Gold plated connectors.
No. It won't give your car extra starting power.
How about turbo sizing for engine displacement?
All comes down to
-Power u want
-When u want it to come on boost
-How much boost u wanna run
-And how much u wanna spend
How long is a piece of string?
Don't forget head design compression ratio turbo design and construction...... the list goes on you could do it on a single engine but the list will still be a mile long
@ChrisHallett83 If you strap a turbo that is sized to deliver max top end power on a 5.2L engine to a 2.0L engine you will never get it to spool in any meaningful capacity.
@@andersjjensen not really true, that's what compound setups are for.
What if i REALLY wanna know how fast you gotta spin a drill to make that hole saw melt?! That sounds bloody awesome!
If it's not on youtube already... you've found your calling! 😆
Fuckin fast
A beginner's guide to CAN would be good, if thats even possible to make into a small video
Yeah, I've heard some pretty intimidating things recently (ie "don't bother).
Flyin Miata did an LS(?) swapped ND Mx5 recently which was full CAN setup so I'm wondering what sort of wizardry might be required.
🧙♂️🤙
@@vanderspaced That is because they wanted to keep the Mazda ECU and still have it think it is running the engine, so they had some software made that does funny things like suppress some CAN signals, and translate others into something Mazda likes.
Check the hp academy channel out for anything tech related
Thanks Kane, HP Academy always with the goods 👌
Topic: MAP vs MAF sensor in turbo applications. Why does some cars only have one of the other, and some have both? What are the tradeoffs/gains with each/both from a tuning perspective?
Would love to see a multilink IRS replacement on an old live-axle beast.
Quick tech on what you don't have to have to do an ls swap with factory harness and ecu from a truck. Keep up the great work Al and woody! Y'all are my favorite RUclips channel hands down!🤘
Over 100,000 subscribers in less than 2 months. That’s how you know you’re doing a good RUclips channel
Hi Alan, great show. Can you make a video about tig welding. Talk a little bit about your own welder and some brands you would recommend. Also some tips and tricks, what consumables to buy etc etc. Thanks bud!
I'd second that! Real basic welding instruction, and what it actually looks like tigging through a mask. All this talk of puddles, but what does it actually look like when you're doing it right or wrong!
Would love to see a welding guide for people looking to get into it, perhaps separate ones for MIG and TIG with correct techniques and choosing settings etc from a more automotive fab perspective
your getting much more confident on the camera than when you first started. Keep up the good work.
Gongrats on the 100k. Just a South African watching from China and learning from the best.
Love the no nonsense tech chat. Keep it coming.
Would be good to know about how the Haltech flex fuel sensors work. Great Video Guys looking forward to meeting you at MotorEx!!
preety simple really they a digital hydroscope sensor
100k champs. Keep up the good work fellas
Well all the vids you guys make are awesome content for "petrolheads" like me, so just keep giving us a peek at your awesome craft, i love u guys !
Congrats on the 100k subs!!! I was here before the 10k!!! Wooow, thats how good the show is!!!
"Difficult to get wrong" love it! This is going to enter my phrase vocabulary 😂
Pros and cons on different loom covering techniques. I know you did that in the past here and there, but just a deep, nerdy go through.
Setting up MIG and TIG welders would be a great topic to cover.
Top 5 most used tools when wiring?
As I've been trying to learn more about wiring, figuring out which tools I should actually get has been one of the hard parts.
I would love to see you guys working on a Mercedes w124. Converting the m104.980 from KE-jetronic to efi.
With the amount of knowledge you guys are willing to share, that would be awesome.
Kjet is mechanical, every thing need changing will it not?
@@MookieZerang a full Efi conversion will be needed.
Straight forward setup for more precise reading . I like haltech too.
Congrats on 100K! Well deserved.👍🏼🤘🏼😎
Many congratulations for the well worthy 100k subscriptions.
U have a good voice for bed time stories ......
Hey AL I gotta say a great video on that. Thanks for all the help in my setup. I am sure you have seen the car. You helped me pick the turbo. I cant wait to get it on the Dyno
Beginners guide to fabrication, welding, designing, cutting etc.. what tools to use and how to do it, obviously car related like exhausts, mounts, turbos, custom air boxes, rust repair on floor pans/ door seals. Love the channel I think you guys have a really in depth way of explaining why and how things can be done. Keep it up
I learn a lot from you, so thanks for that. But I did see a comment about wiring sizes for different applications, and I would find it interesting. Start with ohms law and let’s get into wiring relays. All with the how’s and why’s. Love the videos and thanks again.
Always look foward to endings of the videos 👍
Love everything the skid factory does. Anything Al let’s rip is education for my ear balls top work legends 😎👍
Compressor front and rear housing sizes and why they matter might be interesting?
Already covered
Great little easter egg at the end.
love the quick tech idea keep up the good work guys
Love these kind of vids. Also i really enjoy the fact Alan adapts things to suit different applications and just generally makes stuff work.
Thats how i operate so i look forward to seeing alot more of that.
Congrats on the 100k guys.
Well done on the 100,000 subscribers 👍👍
Hey guys, more on the fab side of things. I have a 185 unimig already for mild and I would like to dabble in tig stainless and alloy to make pipe work etc. A quick guide on choosing the appropriate machine for fab work would be sweet. obviously there are other videos on the tube but just wanted your take on things.
Another idea could be tube notching...? That’s something that could be handy as well.
Cheers keep up the good work.
An in depth video on welding would be good guys, basic settings and tips etc 👍 🍻
Yo dudes! How about a technical discussion of all those birds I always hear squawking in the background!
Hey Al and Woody,
Whats the best way to wire up a car from scratch (like the nova)
Are those Painless/ EZ wiring kits any good?
Cheers
You should do an episode on bluetooth OBD2 scanners and the Torque app. Maybe compare some of the engine monitoring readouts to professional software?
Oh man 100k. I love this channel
100 K subs,,, not bad for an Aussie battler.
Keep up good work & content 👍
I would love a video on the best way for someone whose never welded to jump including gear and a basic project to try at home and follow along. :-)
Keep on Skidding lads.
How about a vid on the changes required to the brake booster when turboing a NA engine? I believe it needs a one way valve, and where to get one. Cheers.
How long does it take to pop the rear left tyre only on a n/a auto v6 VS commodore running a pod filter and the front guards dont match colours and the rear bar fell off last week? 🤔
These are the questions that keep me up at night
Sedan or Wagon?
Cool man. Congrats on the 100K!!!
Congrats on the 100K!
Best tools in your shed? Or show us your graveyard pile where you get things like Subaru pedals and Lancer washer bottles, or is it just a few spare bits? Thanks for the ripper vids and great tech tips!
Quick tech idea, basics of dump pipe fabrication. For beginners like us how do you get cut angles right and have no huge gaps to weld up
Keep up the great work guys!
Love it, great work Al.
Quick and fun vid. More please!
Do you have any 2 stroke rebuilding tips and tricks? A video around your dirt passion would be awesome!
How long does it take to smash a Lemon Squash
Asking the real questions
+
How long is a piece of string?
about the same amount of time it takes a proper built Supra to run a quarter.. 6 seconds =)
Michael Spiteri with or without a shoe?
Hey guys, loving the content. Awesome to see you guys with your own channel. If I may be so bold, is there a possible vid to explain to us mear mortals about turbo ar ratios and things alike. Thanks for the awesome vids.
Congrats on 100k, too!
i know you guys have touched on this before in a build video, but seeing as you're a bit more technical than other car channels it might be a good idea to have a quick video on degree-ing a cam, that probably gets searched for a lot
Hey al love your work man. Greeting from Grenada. Caribbean .
Can you guys PLEASE do an episode on ecotec v6s, I am very interested on learning the nitty gritty details about them
Please do a tech section on how the Haltech controls altitude compensation for a turbo & NA car?
Is it through using the wide band with map sensor?
Does the ECU look at the fuel obtain (Through the flex fuel setup or AFR)?
How does the engine manage boost with the variation on Atmospheric pressure?
Would be interesting
A bit further on this topic would be nice as to where to put O2 sensors( how far forward or back) on the exhaust for different purposes like a wideband gauge or for logging
Just hit the bell icon, thought I did it ages ago! 😁
Hi guys, you’ve used the aeromotive phantom on a few builds, I’d like to see how you vent the pumps on pre-emissions vehicles, do you use charcoal canisters and/or roll over valves? Can you just vent into the filler neck? Cheers. keep the awesome vids coming!
Oh you guys make me laugh.
Congrats on the 100k
How about a "What should I use for my engine conversion" topic? Positive and negatives of the common choices?
Congratulations on 100 thousand subscribers boys.
I think a great idea for a quick video would be "how to troubleshoot wire harness issues" and how to use a multimeter.
Well, ill try this again because youtube kept changing my prior comment to random things...weird. Anyways, I have always wondered how to properly select the correct stall converter for various applications, is there some sort of formula? Keep up the good work fellas, you are an inspiration.
androidrc youtube loves doing that
Taofledermaus channel had this issue
I swear one of the vids I watched today had a comment that read something along the lines of: "its always a good day when a skid factory vid drops" and when I clicked into the comments fo it, it changed completely.
Turbo or Nitrous converter stall speeds are difficult to pick. You need data from your existing setup and how it behaves. Start with a tight converter and move on from there.
Excellent, thanks!
Hey Al you forgot to mention that the WB1 and WB2 is digital signal based (CAN) as per the analogue based on the built-in controllers, These been subject to Ground offsets affecting the Sensor readings, that would be what I'd say is important to going with that setup, not water proof etc
Grats on the 100k subs boys!
Would love to see a video on how to deal with a factory canbus system. I had an e60 bmw that felt impossible to modify because changing any one electronic component seemed to freak out the whole car.
Congratulations on 100k ... Loving the content.
How do you choose a turbo based on the size of your engine?
Nic Neame The biggest turbo you can afford.
Had a fuck load of problems with my wbc2 from them, had 3 units replaced until I got one that worked properly, but it's fine now. They released a statement on it, if you're having issues connecting it with the haltech software, you likely have one of the early model faulty units, return it and get a good one.
Can you make a video that is a up close look at the barra motor for us guys over here in the states? Id be interested in seeing how the sensors are laid out around the motor and maybe a peek at the timing chain system
When are you coming to the uk?
Skid factory & might car mods tour would be awesome.
well done brothers !!!! thanks!!!
Congrats on the 100k chaps.
Could you recommend your favourite types of engine mounts to use for the more unusual conversions?
I’ve seen people use modified LS mounts, leaf spring bushes and even rubber hockey pucks.
It would be great to hear what you recommend/use.
Cheers !
Congrats on 100k
100,000 Subs that's awesome Al and Woody Great content I'm sure more growth is coming Little Aussie Follower
Al love your work mate 👌
Congratulations on 100k. Al and woody killing it
just curious if you guys could show how an ecu chip replacement is done, works and programmed instead of a stand alone system. maybe even touch on street chips vs race chips, and turbo chips. stand alone vs chip replacement. i know its old tech but on a budget it can sometimes be cheaper to chip stock older ecu's rather than making a harness buying an ecu and programming them to run 100%. depends what you want to achieve and your $$$ flow. Thanks keep the minty fresh and sour squashy videos coming
Hey! Can we have a rock solid “Al says it’ll work if these guys do it!” reconditioned turbo guide? Or, basically anything to do with turbo selection!
(Oh & I subscribed from the mrs account too 😇)
How to get quicker spool with turbo supporting mods, like boost controllers adjustable cam gears..etc. What is actually effective and worth buying/doing and what isn’t? I know Al is all about the snail life :)
Quick and full of info, nicely done! :-)
Mr. Turbo Yoda, how to size an intercooler. Thanks and Great Videos!!!
Dialing in camshafts/adjustable cam gears, purpose, pro's, cons? Cheers
Well I guess that bracket I built to mount the Haltech unit on top of my turbine was a waste of time..... LOL
Great videos, more please!
Cheers from Tokyo!
I would like to see a video on different fuel systems any why for certain applications. Keep up the good work!!!👌🏻
Yes on 100k subscribers
Boost control & how it works, different types of gates etc
I’ve put a wide band unit behind my car stereo, power and ground connected, the can wire to a can of lemon squash. I don’t get any extra channels on the radio. It’s been as much a failure as when I filed cam lobes to sharp points.
Tech talk on the dirt scooters !!!
Id like to hear about different turbo lubrication methods.
Hi I was wondering for your next Quick Tech can you explain can systems and how to diagnose faults in it Thankyou very much.
Thanks. I'm gonna wire up a WB1 and LSU 4.9 tomorrow. If I can. Bit complicated as I have an old WB unit on the evo, an io expansion box, old silver hub, old haltech dash and flex sensor. bit stressed.
Congratulations on hitting the 100k subscribers
