Completely agreed, second place has to be super mario Rpg...JK,JK, i'd actually put Xenogears in my close number two slot. Valkyrie profile actually jerks you emotionally its crazy.
watching this makes my heart hurt :( my best friend and I loved this game, we spent hours playing it together. she died before we could finish it and i gave it away shortly afterwards, didn't feel rite to finish it without her. Not that I could have played it as it brought me to tears every time I looked at it, let alone if I tried to pick it up and play it. I watched some Octopath traveler playthrought and it reminded me a lot of Valkyrie Profile. And I was not the only one. Some people in the chat, before combat, usually wrote: "Come to me, my noble einherjar" and some other quotes of this great game.
Hoping Hollywood will never make this a live-action. They would just mess it up. Another thing, this was the gaming era before Square and Enix merged. I played Star Ocean 2 before finding this one. Glad I did. Jayle's story broke my heart in the game.
I always loved that part when Platina regained her memories on Earth. Suddenly she's not the righteous driven warrior without regard to human suffering. "What is this 'everything' you speak of?"

That's only real issue I see with VP2's plot. It's intertwined with the first game and unless you've played VP1 or know its general story you won't get certain references of some scenes and characters. The game is still awesome though.
Ps1 version is still better than psp, no rude scene. Very good game, from time where Japanese made serious gaming like this, this time is over, but we can still live in memory. Thx for share ending, i failed to reach end A, this is a kinda short end, other character deserve an nice conclusion.

Some of the most serious and heavy pixel art videogame cutscene and lore I've ever encountered in my entire life, up there among the greats like Final Fantasy 6... And it's got some of the most dreadful, tone deaf, tinny, out of context voice acting imaginable :( even a fan re-dub would be superior
this game told story of each character but only has 5 hours of cutscene compared to some JRPG that told almost nothing or no character/plot progression but has more than 10 hour cutscene. Back then, everytime there is a cutscene in JRPG, something interesting or epic will happen. Now it is just a filler fest.

This is one of my favourite games of all time. However... I remember playing this when I was a lot younger and thinking how bad the VO was. Listening to it today, it sounds even worse; it's like some random people reading random lines and recording them, truly awful. Especially "Lezard", he wins a spot in the "hall of fame of worse voice acting in video game history".
voice actors during the 80s and 90s isn't that good, have you heard of castlevania SotN, Brave fencer Musashi and the worst of all resident evil, the only good voice acting in the ps1 is metal gear solid.
Dakebs Catalig Amen to that. This game is really gorgeous. Beautiful graphic with well designed characters, great soundtrack fitting of the epic storyline... How they neglected the quality of the English voice acting is beyond me.
The not so perfect voice acting is what gave the game a charm to me. kinda made me feeling within the story. i always find myself enjoying it as i get older. the whole reason i watching this now is just to hear them talk.

The last great game before Enix's merger with L7. I didn't particularly care for part 2 or the one that came out for the DS.
The second was a far cry from this. Not anywhere near the same feels. The opening of vp2 simeria is pretty nastalgic though imo.
