Finished the vid. Why do people think it fair to criticise you on anything Charlie. You've got a lot of knowledge on most elements of construction. I've been plumbing here in the UK 30 years you've done a fine job pal. The sleeving of pipe through walls is only a necessity with gas and I've never had a cold pipe corrode when supplying an outside tap but how you've done it with the chemical resin and sleeve is very bibs and braces for you own home.
Thanks mate, really appreciate that. Thing is on plumbing there's always a danger of imposter syndrome with what I'm doing as I'll always defer to you guys with your greater knowledge but my channel has always been about recording what I'm up to on the house and doing it as well as I can. I really enjoy plumbing (and roofing) so I'll have to just do the videos and accept the criticism 😉
@@CharlieDIYte You'll always get the keyboard trades that forget its taken them decades to master their craft. Taking the plunge from Yorkshire fittings to end feed is a huge undertaking as you know and takes an apprentice months to even start to get right. You do lovely work bud and I've been a long time subscriber. Take no notice of the "know it all" trolls and don't even bother mentioning the fact they may comment on this or that. ;)
Charlie that's the same one I've been using for nearly 5 years... Never let me down. They use these in schools and hospitals to prevent scalding so you always get around 40c which my dog loves 😊all the washing kept outside, you'll never go back it's brilliant!!
So admiring of your plumbing skills. In my 70 year old house I haven't even got isolation valves under any of the bathroom taps! Someone has to go into the very cramped loft to switch off the hot water before we can even fix a hot tap issue.
Thanks so much - really appreciate you watching my vid. My place was exactly the same. I'm gradually installing them whenever something needs working on. You want to see if you can find where the hot water comes out of the loft. Would be amazing to fit at least one iso valve in the bathroom or wherever to save you having to make the dreaded trip up there. You should see my lofts. No roof felt so they're cramped, dusty and full of flies 🤦
Nice soldering. I only used push fit and compression for years until i recently discovered a hidden love for end feed soldered fittings. Cheap, neat, very reliable, and actually quite quick once you've done a few.
Hi Charlie What a beautiful black lab , we are the proud owner of such a dog . Your plumbing seems above and beyond many installations I have come across in my long working career . But I appreciate there are bound to be those who are ready to pounce , on the smallest of details . My expertise lay within the electrical environment , I would I rubbed shoulders with many plumbers and no doubt they in turn came across numerous electricians . But those with the real skill would recognise a true professional from a mile of , so trust me Charlie you are just fine . Ps lots of love from our nearly four year old pup Jose . Best wishes and kind regards from an old follower 👍
Thanks so much for this, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that - particularly coming from a pro. Yes I have to say I adore her. She pretty much follows me everywhere. 11 now though so she's getting on a bit. Say hi to Jose from me and Nala 👊
The other thing on legionella - in that short run the temperature of the water is going to drop down to ambient temperature pretty quickly, outside of the growing temperature of legionella.
Great video Charlie, so well explained. Some people will criticise ANYTHING (and everything) ! Try not to let them get to you Charlie. They must be very sad.
Thanks Mandy, I really appreciate that. I don't really mind the criticism on here - it's a healthy checks and balances to what I'm doing. The comments on Facebook on the other hand... they're a whole new level 🤦😬
Great video. I achieved the same by putting a 3m hose on the electric shower - when the dog gets muddy I just pop it out the window to wash him down. It's nothing compared to your setup but it only cost £10 & took 2 mins to do.
Just make sure the hose on the shower can't reach the WC! I believe there is some regulation stating that a shower hose cannot be long enough to reach a WC.
Thanks for the great video. The sleeve for the pipe going through the wall is probably a good idea because the pipe will be containing warm water in a space that is not insulated. Condensation may form in the colder months and that won't have a chance to get into the walls. If there were a lot of condensation then you might see a tiny amount of water coming from the inside hole made for the pipe. But I doubt that it's likely. I personally prefer the old setup that allowed you to adjust the water temperature outside. It has nothing to do with a possibility of Legionnaire's Disease in the new system. Though I disagree with your statement that it is mainly concerned with commercial systems. In Canada, at least, we are warned about maintaining a minimum temperature in the hot water tank to prevent the disease. My preference for the old system is the convenience of changing the temperature of the water. If you are only washing your dog at that spot then the system works great and you are wonderful owners. If you do other things, such as water plants, wash tools, or other things that could be done with only cold water then the new system wastes hot water unless you go inside, change the temperature, do whatever it is, and then remember to change it back. A system that is connected to your home network which would let you set the temperature with your phone would be ideal for this project. I love your videos, the attention to detail, and how you present your projects. I'm sharing my thoughts and they are not intended to be critical, in case it's coming across that way. Thank you for all of the effort you put into these videos and sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks Charlie, an interesting project with the detail well explained as always, I was wondering about the Legionella too, but more in relation to the old warm water pipe you said had be unused for years, but that could be my misunderstanding !
Cheers Andy and thanks for watching as ever 👊 I think the point is that the capped off pipe wasn't getting hot given the lack of flow so I don't think legionella could form in it - but I am no expert on this.
Thanks Tristram. It's the C50. I got rid of my separates hifi over 20 years ago when it seemed like iPods were the future and we were frantically compressing all our CDs onto iTunes. Had an epiphany in my mind 30s sat in front of my laptop listening to something on Spotify through two tiny tinny internal speakers and thought - where did it all go wrong 🤣 So I'm slowly assembling something I can play decent music on at some point.
Nice work and clearly put some thought into it. My thoughts is isnt tap water chlorinated anyway, and if its in the pipe it cant offgas, so would keep it chlorinated ?
Fair point. Yes the risk is negligible and I'm draining the hose every morning by disengaging it from the nozzle. It's so nice when the dog walks happily over to it knowing she's going to get a nice warm shower rather than running a mile in the old days when I was using the cold hose
Interesting set up. Any reason you didn't opt for using something like the "Woodford Model 22" frostless outdoor hot+cold tap? That way you could also retain using the tap as a cold water tap and also have granular control of the temp on the oustide of the house?
Thanks. I didn't know anything about this tap to be honest but I was keen to use a single feed this time as I have a cold water tap a few yards away, and the Woodford seems pretty expensive.
@@CharlieDIYte Yup thats what puts me off it tbh. Was wondering if you'd consciously stayed away from it for any reason as ithought it was likely to have been mentioned in your discord etc.
Good video. You spoil the dog :). I thought about doing this a few years ago, but after seeing the dogs (labs) jump into lakes and ponds for a swim in the middle of winter I thought cold water tap would be OK for them.
Alkathene to 15mm adapter (has a brown collar inside with a grab ring) which you then have 15mm size to move forward. Most plumbing merchants will stock that fitting and about £8 off the top of my head.
Amazing work and knowledge. The hose is only short not exactly the bibby barge i dont think your going to have an outbreak over such a short bit of hose.
Pressure and flow are two separate things Charlie. The other commenter is correct and you are killing your flow with that amount of elbows straight off the main stop cock. 3 to 4 bar with as much flow as you can muster is very desirable with an unvented system. (been fitting them decades). Have a quick google for differences between pressure and flow. Its a misconception that even most Plumbers don't understand. Other than that great vid and an awesome job done matey.
Thanks mate and fair point. Thing is though, killing the flow to the tap presumably - which isn't an issue because as you saw there's plenty of pressure. Or are you suggesting I'm killing the flow to the rest of the house, which forgive me but I can't really understand why that would be the case. Bottom line this is the only place I can put the outdoor tap so I'll have to live with the consequences.
@@CharlieDIYte Maybe some crossed wires? Is that stop cock on the black Alkathene only supplying this set up? If so then crack on mate for sure. Never an issue. I thought this may be the main entry point of you whole house supply?
Can I ask a really basic question about water pressure & PRVs? We moved into an old ex-holiday let Chapel with a (rusted to b*gg*ry) PRV in situ. It started humming loudly after about 6 months of us being in and using washing machine/dishwasher/shower regularly, and we resorted to a plumber for diagnosis and to switch in a new PRV (we're DIY newbies/no experience with plumbing - yet!). Now, 12 month after this PRV has been in, set at around 2 bar, it's started the incessant humming on main water usage... What pressure do you set your water at with your PRV? Is there a minimum, and what makes of PRVs would you recommend/avoid? Sorry for all the questions, and cheers for another cracking & inspiring vid - all saved for my future DIY projects!!!
That's what happened with ours. I think it's entirely down to the PRV - you will need to change it unfortunately - that Resideo I showed you in the video was banging and humming. Used to wake us up at 2 in the morning. It's difficult to find a decent one - I mean, this one looks like mine www.toolstation.com/made4trade-pressure-reducing-valve-and-gauge/p44160 but the reviews are mixed. Hope you get it sorted. Mine is set to 3 bar.
Regarding legionella, your run of pipe between valve and tap is probably about the same distance as your average rain head shower in a bathroom, really not something that would concern me. Copper also kills legionella so it would have a hard time growing in there as well.
I need to connect up a Douche for the toilet. It is a trigger type and will need a hot and cold feed. Do you think this dog wash set up would also work for this application?
Might be an rookie question but how do you get the tap to screw on vertically straight without having it slack and it dripping where the threads are? In the past I have cut a hole in a piece of wood, fed the pipe through, screwed it to the wood and then finally screwed the tap on nice and tight so I know where to drill my holes into the wall. Alterantively if it's not straight when I've screwed it on, it unscrew it and just put more/less PTFE tape on to adjust where the tap lies after screwing it tightly on. Either way, I've always found it to be such a pain to get it right.
Negligible risk from legionella bactiruim growth, conventional wisdom now, and if hsg274 is properly digested, is that regular water movement is enough control proliferation of cfu's. As your probably gonna be cleaning the dog often I wouldn't worry about it.

Looks great, if I had to add to the criticism then I'd say we needed the payoff of seeing the dog get a shower!
Concrete does eat through copper, it just take years, often times decades.
I noticed you used wooden blocks to space your Talon pipe clips off the wall. Talon actually make spacers for this purpose.
Just use a piece of pipe & a longer screw?
@@barryford7135 That works but it's less fiddly to use the purpose made spacers from Talon. I always keep some in my kit.
You could get a push switch and train the dog to turn it on

What the jet lub do
It's a jointing compound. You put it on the olives to help stop leaks. Belt and braces as they shouldn't really need it, being compression fittings.
