Man 5 years ago in high school I thought I would never be able to get my hands in any of these. But now I’m able to 3D print these myself. Love how you grow up to buy what you’ve always wanted
I cringed when he was cutting that piece and was holding it in his hand.... I did that same thing with a dremil rotary tool and it slipped.... I felt the saw go into my thumb laterally and heard the motor slow down as it chewed to my bone..... I always use a vice now when I cut with power tools.... Yes its faster... but holy shit you can fuck yourself up.... Going faster also means you can make mistakes faster. One slip and you just ruined your piece of armor. My point is to watch out and make sure you are really comfortable before doing this this way. This prop builder makes it look easy... Notice how he only trusted Norm with a hand file in the video. Be careful gents....
Necra Monium Scalpel?
Necra Monium Exacto knife
Damn, now I can't get the image and sound of a rotary blade cutting through a thumb and bone out of my head. Thank you for that horrifyingly disturbing image.
Solarstar10 Yeah. these things can fuck you up. this air tool is 10 times more dangerous than my dremil. So these guys are all like "These are so cheap and easy and fast.. hurr durr". IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH POWER TOOLS START WITH THE EXACTO. I cannot believe they didnt stress this in the video....
panzerfaulst12345 i mean the tools require an air compressor which would in itself need some sort of comfort with air tools then again exacto knives are not entirely safe either ive slipped and cut large chunks of skin off you should just be careful and try to be safe with whatever you end up using
It would cool if they made these motorcycle armor grade :D :D :D
Norm is just amazing at interviews. I personally prefer his over other's just due to the fact he asks amazing questions and I learn so much about a product whenever he interviews anyone.
This idea of the kits for those DIY lovers is awesome too. I feel like they allow people to have a huge amount of pride in making their costumes and look great in them. This is fantastic!
If i had 700$ for a stormtrooper kit (or 400$ for a shadowtrooper kit), i think i could afford two tools for 30 bucks...
medusa little
Agreed, and i loved Battlefront aswell, but like you said you cant really compare the two, theyre both fantastic games in their own way!
+Smokey Nope there called shadow stormtroopers not shadow troopers there completely different
+Smokey Nope It's supply and demand. If the demand is higher then supply you increase the price. Money money money!!!
The new battlefront is so bad, Disney should sue EA for defamation of character.
just imagine how much work goes into making the stormtroopers in the movies. so cool.
Nice one Norm putting them on the spot there :D
Ender Running And people say Norm is awkward and has no balls... in your face, haters!
Norm is so Awesome :D
The parts are really thin I was hoping they would be a lot thicker, I was really disappointed with the quality considering how much their charging for these kits, the kit is made from the same plastic as those half head masks you get for Halloween not worth the money.
Uteopia Vacuum formed plastic cant really be that thick. You could use some fiberglass or resin on the inside to strengthen them.
You know, I was just thinking earlier "I wish I could hear two minutes straight of a drill sanding PVC plastic". And I got what I wished for.
Oh, I can't wait for my kit! Hopped on the original TK kit when it dropped. Thanks so much for giving us an idea of what to expect, guys! And thanks for the heads up on the air tools. I just hope the kits and finished sets make their way out in time for us fans to be ready for Ep VII! And like some of you have already posted; safety first! Don't get into a rush and hurt yourself or your armor. Doing it right and safe the first time is the SAFEST way.
ORIGINAL!!! STORMTROOPER helmets are still made in UK...but....
UK courts.... ruling means that Ainsworth can continue to make and sell the helmets in the United Kingdom (because they are not copyright-protected in the United Kingdom as “sculptures” within the meaning of the 1988 Act), but not export them to the United States in violation of U.S. copyright law.
So these are OFFICIALLY LICENSE products. But not ORIGINALS like the UK
for this price they could have used some higher quality "plastic"...typical scam
HardtechnoVictim true but to be fair, OT storm trooper costumes were like these, their first order storm trooper might be thicker
Still waiting for my FO Stromtrooper armour. I ordered it on the 29th December 2017 from Anovos.
Did you ever get it!?. Dude got his X Wing helmet 7 years after he ordered it thanks to new ownership.
10:17 ... that sound made my face turn inside out
TD-3425 here. Just go to the legions site, chose unit listings, detachments and chose the 501st spec ops detachment. That is our forum that deals with the Shadow Trooper. Find someone on there and get a kit for less than Anovos. Then you'll be in contact with the right people who will help you do your armor the right way, even if you don't plan to join the legion.
god damn $1,275
夫 Ωʕ·͡ᴥ·ʔElevate Ω夫 For the full suit, but the kit is $375 right now (click the drop-down menu on Anovos' website)
夫 Ωʕ·͡ᴥ·ʔElevate Ω夫
Thats the price for the pre built set.
the kit (6:50) is much cheaper
Tested Excuse my ignorance. But what is the difference between a kit and a fulll suit?
MaMastoast you mean pre build/cut set and kit
The kit you have to cut and assemble everything yourself like in the video.
The pre-built set is ready to wear.
***** No need to get upset mate.
I am so glad I found this channel. Thank you guys for all your work and sharing.
One of the best shows, period. Looking forward to Pt 2.
That music at around 9:30 is so mellow and warm... I like it.
That Y-Wing helmet is actually a B-Wing pilot helmet. Y-wing helmets actually look a lot like X-Wing pilots helmets.
+Tactical Wampa You are really wrong. Search the picture too.
Star Wars police much
This is a great product. Pretty awesome for folks who just want to have something really cool to show off and are not super obsessed with movie accuracy. Pretty neat of Anovos.
13:56
Sounds like Jar Jar in a blender..
Handy tip for Frank: No need for tape and pencil when marking black surfaces. Get a white pen (search Ebay for Metallic Marker Pens Color Ink (such as item#111920444998)). They mark on most materials and don't stain them - easy wipe off when you're done.
My only suggestion would be to high light the cut lines with a silver Sharpie on the Shadow Trooper, and a black Sharpie on the regular Storm Trooper. This allows you to see where to cut if you have low light or it is difficult to see the cut lines.
Thanks for helping me build this!
Those armor pieces (at around 9:00) look much thinner than what I expected.
EDIT: Frank is the best, btw. He's the sweetest guy.
that air-cutter is the bees knees. would love to carve a pumpkin with that!
a nice thing to do would be to go in with a white paint pen and marking out those guide lines beforehand to make them more visible and it'll make it easier to know if you've gone too far when grinding.
oof, I spoke too soon, they mentioned it. yep tape would be good too! lol
Love the massive pre order discount for these . . . . just have to wait until spring next year for delivery
looks like fun!
Also at Harbor Freight... a stationary belt sander for around $80. Worth it's weight in gold for finishing your plastic armor edges. But I'm picking up those air compressor tools too!
Anovos just nails it. Every time I look at their website I get a little frustrated because I just want to buy everything.
If you guys do come to Dragon*Con 2015, and you do happen to bring your armor, you should join us in the Dragon*Con Parade! We'd love to have you guys!!! That would be so Awesome!!! I'll be one of the Jedi there. I am a member of the Rebel Legion, the Jedi Assembly, The R2 Builders Club, and loosely affiliated with the 501st Georgai Garrison. I resemble Qui-gon Jin when I am in my Jedi Outfit. I hope you guys come on out with us! May the Force be with You!
Now I wanna see Tested meet up with Thorsson & Associates Workshop. Holy shit, would that be awesome.
Can´t wait for the next part!!
Lolz, the kit looks like those plastic Halloween masks you buy at Target. It's the best of the best guys 😂🤣😂🤣
Pretty cool shadow trooper armour
Norm is really good now at interviewing. Good stuff
Lol. Daunting is right. When I got my first kit I had a panic attack. It took me months to finally dive in and start trimming. Good luck!
Love stuff like this
Sick. very cool wheres part two?
I just did all the cutting and dremelling on my anovos kit this weekend. I ended up using a cutoff wheel instead of a reciprocating saw, I found that let get closer to the line in my rough cut. :It took me 10 hours overall to cut/dremel.
+CAPUSA I also found the cut lines easy to see on the white kit, no need for marking them.
That storm trooper helmet is awesome
Gosh i want those so badly!
POST PART 2 PLEASE!!!
I am shuddering from that grinder, sounds like I am at the dentist's office. :/
+Brandon Pearce Dude so true!!
Disney is really pushing the merchandise, George would be proud.
Frank is the man!
Dunno why, but that looks really flimsy. I know they said it's really durable but I can't get the thought of that just tearing like cheap plastic out of my head
Silver Sharpies!
Yeah metalic sharpies are so useful
Hmm... if there's a clearly defined score line and you have to sort of angle it in the light to see it, that's gonna get a bit annoying if you have to keep rotating it.
If the indicating line is a groove, I think I'd lightly scuff the inside with scotchbrite or something, so that it's dull, but leaves the groove bright. Takes a little more time, but I see it as an extra step to the "measure twice, cut once" idea.
Just a thought though.
Any more information on those Tools you used? Would love to get a set before i get my kit.
Second part please!!!
Where is my part 2?! I needs it
Off topic: thought I might add
For compressors it's the cfm that matters the most for air tools not psi. Check your tools air consumption and see if your compressor has the cfm and if the run time is constant or 50% etc. I would have thought a good pair of sheers would have done a good job with less chance of a slip and damage.
Couldn't find part 2. Does the kit come with the extra materials you're going to need to assemble the armor? I assume it needs to be lined with foam, have straps or some kind of connecting device between parts, etc. Or is it just the plastic pieces?
Thank you for the tips! I smashed though my rough cuts and clean up in two days. I would have spent at least two weeks using the score and snap method. Only downfall of using the air grinder was I got a lot of flashing and snagged my finder on a little of it at one point. Oh well, whats a project without a little blood and sweat; am I right?
+Kenny Kitterman I wanna add, when you are using the saw I had better results when the guard was flush with the part i was trimming out. I ended up getting my saw at harbor freight and this made all the difference in the world. When the guard wasn't against the surface I was cutting I got a lot of vibration and it would barley cut. Just a little advise if you go this route.
When you guys got the kit did the drop boxes come with inner box inserts?
So, I would need a compressed air source to run the reciprocating saw? How much does that run? Would an electric one work just as well? I ordered the OT Storm-trooper kit fro Anovos, but i'm a pretty big newbie when it comes to building.
I think it might be easier to use a silver or white marker pen, to highlight the cut lines so you can see them easier when cutting, without having to turn the piece so the guide line is easier to see.
wow.... does anyone know when that Anovos ESB Fett helmet is going to be available?
Markal makes a silver pencil that works well on black pipe and mild steel. It may work on black pvc.
X-acto knives, dremmel sander disc, files and whatnot when you could have cut everything with scissors for metal. They cut through plastics very easily and with more control. Also less chance of getting hurt.
Use a white paint marker to highlight the lines. It works better than tape.
Great vido Tested! That y-wing helmet looks sweet!
video*
I didn't pay $1,600 for an unfinished kit. If I pay that much, I expect it to be finished.
The bright surfaces, would allow you to be seen easily, with a light source. They would need to be a matte finish.
Wow that looks amazing, what kind of paint is used on that?
would a reinforced cutting disk on a dremel work as a substitute?
Would a dreamer work for the cutting and sanding
Use a silver Sharpie to make the cut lines.
Or a white grease pencil
I like how he is talking about how cheap the tools were. The kits alone cost over $300. I think that you could spend a bit extra to get the proper tools.
I was looking on Anovoses sight. The shadow storm trooper kit is 350 but the classic is 650. Is this a deal that they are running on the shadow or is the classic just more?
lol I just spent 1600 on my Scout Trooper armor.. this one so is tempting for only 375. Helmets themselves usually go for more than that.
This is freakin awesome.
When is part 2 out??
Part 2 coming anytime soon?
Would a dremal work in place of the air compressed sander?
To be honest, I prefer ABS plastic over the PVC. It seems really thin in this video. Not sure how durable it would be.
As a 501st member, I can tell you that PVC gets yellow with time, so ABS is a better option for regular white stormtroopers. And it doesn't matter what kind of plastic it is, all of them are kind of thin, in order to be vacuum formed. Is not a bad thing, that makes the whole thing a lot lighter and flexible, therefore, comfier.
The death star gunner mask is odd since why do you need head gear on a space station?
But then again maybe that is more like an executioners helmet/hood (like the one pyramid heads is based on) I.e something to keep the executioners identify safe from angry vengeful relatives...
that would be more important to the imperial citizen charged with actually triggering the damn thing... he would end up on everyone shit-list more so then anyone else...
The style of mask also seams consistent with this idea...
A Dremel with a cutting wheel should work great for rough-cutting.
Part II?
Almost $6000 for the Vader costume.....I WANT IT SO BAD
Now...that is overpriced... WTF. Honestly, you're better off buying the parts separately from accurate vendors. Even the leather body glove isn't that expensive
Fagdalf The Gay its 6K because its real leather and basically a high priced fashion piece.
Original Beard Real leather, doesn't mean it isn't bonded leather. Even a real leather body glove isn't that expensive, the helmet itself can cost about $900 from a accurate vendor, everything else should be -$500, even as a fashion piece, thats too much. THE HELMET THEY HAVE ISN'T EVEN ACCURATE.
Fagdalf The Gay I know dude. That is the dumbest price ever. I would never pay $6000 for a costume. The $900 one is another story. I would drop a K for a decent one.
cant wait to gwt mine!!
when can we expect part II?
Now will they ever do the Phase 1 Clone Trooper Armor?
Are you guys ever going to finish this?
wheres part two?
Is Anovos ever gonna make scout trooper armor/helmets?
Headphone user.. When you edit it, please balance the sound levels.. The difference in loudness between talking and those tools was ear shattering.. I had to turn the volume down whenever Frank was doing anything with tools.. :/
Also, I was sure 'someone' is gonna loose their finger.. Defo contains NSFW elements.. >.>
DemoBytom no
DemoBytom Also a headphone user with high quality studio monitor headphones. I didn't notice a huge change in volume. Certainly nothing ear-shattering. I imagine if you use some cans that have a peak around the frequency of that air sander, it might sound pretty bad.
Not using Beats, I hope, right? :)
DemoBytom I agree. Instead of us turning the volume up and down constantly, they should be using COMPRESSION to do that for us. I mean, that's one of the primary functions OF audio compression, to normalize volume levels.
Joe looks a lot like a Big Brother UK contestant from years ago called Jon Tickle. I thought it was him when i first saw him.
SOOOOOO COOL!
très bien!
if you want to make the full experience you need to add a screen on the visor an also headphones inside the helmets
Couldn't find the Boba Fett helmet on their site, is it going to be released on a later date?
Awesome
im not seeing a $375 kit anywhere on their website
hi, how thick is the PVC???All parts are the same?
10:15 anyone else cringed? my neck sucked into my chest and my fingers curled...
Does anyone know what T shirt Norm is wearing here (you can see it best at the start)? It looks like it says Space Snakes [uchū hebi 宇宙蛇]. I know 宇宙 is uchū ie. space but had to look up 蛇 by stroke to get hebi which seems to mean snakes and there are snakes oh the shirt. I don't know if it's a game or what.
