Adam Savage's Hellboy Mecha-Glove Replica
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 авг 2024
- One of Adam Savage's favorite movie props is Rasputin's mecha-hand from Hellboy. It's an elaborately machined prop that's only in the movie for a few minutes, and Adam has spent over four years painstakingly replicating it. Now that it's finally done, Adam walks us through all the individual components and how he fabricated each.

Love Hellboy? Watch Adam make Hellboy's sword (from the comics): ruclips.net/video/gcDCZ2TmTck/видео.html
As a long time model builder myself, words elude me on just how amazing this is. This would be thee crown jewel in any builders or prop collectors collection!
Adam lives the life man.
This is disturbingly amazing, I mean I'm fully aware of how talented Adam Savage is. But the craftsmanship and detail here is nothing less than awe inspiring.
From scratch no less. There is something so incredible about making something from raw materials.
This is my favourite object Adam has built that I've seen. I'm a huge Hellboy fan so this glove was the coolest thing in a whole movie of cool things. The movie original was such an incredible piece, the original artwork by Mignola is not overly detailed but they captured the essence of the piece and made something incredible. Adam's is just as impressive and I can't wait to see him weather and age it.
Adam's crafting has increased with seven levels after this
Warren Buitendag and summoned seven gods
Then the Gods requested Adam's crafting ability for a new prototype universe.
rewatched hellboy and the movie has so many great props in it.
Fast forward 200 years and someone finds this Mecha-Glove in grandmas attic. Looking at it completely out of context. It is done so well there is no reason for them to believe that it is not a real demon summoner. I would love to see the look on their face(es) Well Done Adam! Love it!
I am currently 6 months into writing, illustrating and producing a graphic novel of epic proportions. It will take me the best part of the next 18 months to finish. Watching this while I work away at 12am makes me so good about putting everything I can into this project. These videos have not only entertained me huge amount while I draw away but fill me with excitement and encouragement for the day I finally finish!
Whats the update on that graphic novel?
Makers of the Enigma. Genius!
"First rule of Government spending: Why build one when you can have two at twice the price?"
+Stephen Young The government would never do that. They just pay the lowest bidder for 1 cheap thing
+terrance burke That was a quote from contact that they reference.
Stephen Young Never saw Contact.
+Beardsley McBeard Thats how corporations work not the government. Go look up how much US military planes cost.
That was a line from the movie Contact, based on the novel by Carl Sagan of the same name. I'd highly suggest watching it, it's a fantastic movie.
I died laughing when he said glue after saying all the complex things that went into it.
I'm such a Geek... I get vacuumed into these videos every time.... so cool I didn't even know I would like this prop until I was at the Guillermo Del Toro exhibit in LA. They had it there on a shelf and I fell in love with it.. .It's amazing... made me sad that they had it hidden in the back of the exhibit, but at the same time glad, because you had time to look at it in detail.
Anyone else see the piece fall off at 10:04 ? XD
+Yolo Swaggins And they were both a split second too late to see it! :D
+Captain WARLORD Except Adam mentions when he puts it on he can't turn his hand over because the servo arm is missing, and points directly where it fell off from.
+Captain WARLORD "Just a cap" and "the object that pins it in place/allows it to move" are two pretty different things with different importance to the piece.
+Yolo Swaggins yah just about to comment that XD
+Yolo Swaggins 13:09 thats what he said... servo arm and he knew it was missing
i want to see Adam build a plasma cutter from dead space 1,2, and 3
it took him 5 years to build this....
I want to see him build the helmet, and make it functional. That'll give him something to work on for 80+ years.
Mark Carchidi
dude that makes it harder. that means he has to make eveything in it.
Mark Carchidi
i diagree but i dont think adam is a video gamer anyway.
yeah but whats the fun in that
I have never seen anyone geek out as much as this. Well deserved though. Good build!
Every single time Adam turned or moved the glove I flinched expecting it to break or get knocked off the desk xD I couldn't handle this
"No demons will be harmed in the course of this." best line i have heard in years. XD
It's what they said when I was born
I fell down the Tested rabbit hole in 2020. Wonderland is nice this time of year.
awesome, and it looks even better when you're actually wearing it.
Yea I thought it looked slightly wonky on the stand but on the arm it looked incredible. I imagine if it were placed on a life size hand model in a realistic position it would look great.
thank you
Aspire to be as happy and hard at work as Adam. His book is revelatory.
i can just imagine that all of adams toys as a kid were taken apart and reconstructed to make them better..gotta love his mind
This is an absolute masterpiece, When Adam put it on it just looked 10 times cooler. Fantastic work man.
I swear, Adam showed that even in the hard project, he still kept on trying.
Adam, I know the chances of you seeing this is very slim, but I've been a fan of Tested for about a year now. But I have been a fan of MythBusters for most of my life, and I think it would be simply amazing if you and Jamie would get together to do a one day build. something special to commemorate all of the time you guys spent on the show.
Always excited when there's an episode with Adam and his toys/builds.
it's truly a thing of beauty Adam.
Just see this vid 4 years after it was made and it’s spectacular Adam.👍👍👍
I love Hellboy and Mignola's stuff and that hand is incredibly awesome!
adam's enthusiasm is infectious. he should have his own prop show.
That is absolutely gorgeous. It is so nice to see the project coming together so well.
Adam savage hit a new level of bad ass with this one
Amazing ,thats better than the original.
Hellboy is a great source for nerdy- licious baubles like this, I salute you sir 👌
so awesome...and the pride in Adam's face.......
This is awesome! My uncle worked on many films as a model builder and I only wish I could get into that line of work! Great to see you stuff Adam!
DAMNIT! I put on Hellboy to see this thing in action. The moving panel you printed is on screen for less than a full second.
What a great piece from a series of films filled with great practical effects and props!
dedication and passion to the fullest
A Beautiful piece of work, just stunning.
I wonder how much this would be valued at? I know Adam would never sell it but you've gotta wonder. Unbelievable work!
I love adam savage so much and the time and effort he's put into this build is inspiring!
Oh wow! I'm totally blown away.
First I'd like to say I am a major fan of yours ever since the early days of Mythbusters. I have gone and watched alot of your builds. I just re-watched the movie Future Force and the glove in it is magnificent. Anyways i believe no one else has done this and you would be the perfect person.
I came here while listening to "Every Tool's A Hammer" on Audible. Such an excellent book!
Another great video and build guys!
*Just pure awesomeness. But shouldn't the Shining labyrinth be classified as his most complex prop project? Albeit lots of fun and accolades for him, it was in fact an insane amount of detailed effort to construct. Ja oder Nein, Adam?*
It'd be interesting to have Karel Roden who played Rasputin in Hellboy see this.
Moreso than his skill (ok, not moreso, but let's say... equally) I envydmire Adam's happiness in this vids.
Props make this man unspeakably joyous.
Adam should do a Pip Boy 3000 from Fallout, that would be so awesome!
Dude! That would be sick.
Adam Savage... is Probably the coolest person alive.
I like that he knew what to call the Ogdru Jahad, because I do not believed they were ever called by name in the film.
I could be mistaken though, but it's cool that Adam knows them.
thats a beautiful bit of work
Knerding out over knurling. Love it.
Yes! More with stuff with Adam!
in 5 years^^
This is so unbelievably amazing! Can't wait to see a video with the fully functioning servos and sound. Great work!
bah! you guys got me! I said "i ad something to do but found myself watching this entire video, awesome stuff!!
That is a beautiful thing for many reasons.
Oh man! I remember this original video.
It looks 100 times better when Adam is wearing it. It should be displayed in horizontal position.
We need an A&E show with this stuff
Oh it's still one on my favourites... The company I worked for at the time made the gun...it was lots of fun discovering that.
Amazing job Adam! Can't wait to see what you will make next.
Way too cool Adam!
Bravo, Adam! Magnificent piece of prop art. I really enjoy all your builds.
Adam , Don't forget the main power coupler just below the elbow that connects the main power harness leading to the ring .
cant wait to see the finale video for this project
This is beyond awesome! But one question. Why is there Hellboy on the dial instead of Anung Un Rama? Hellboy was the nickname the BPRD staff gave him.
Awesome prop from an awesome movie!
Brilliant work Adam,
I want one too! :D
Sadly, there is a translation mistake on the Label.
"Bestellnummer" means Orderingnumber instdead of Partnumber, wich is "Teilnummer" in german. :(
Also, it should be "der Zerstörer" with a lowercase "der".
At the last line, "von Chiffriermaschinengesellschaft", that sounds like you translated "by Chiffriermaschinengesellschaft". Better, and correct would be "Hergestellt von der Chif[..]", meaning "made by".
Hope I could help. :)
btw, "Chiffriermaschinengesellschaft" means "encryptingmashinecompany". not sure if thats fitting ;)
Hellboy's name is on that "demon gauge" thing. Hellboy wasn't named Hellboy (by professor Bruttenholm) until after this glove was used to bring him to this world. His actual name is Anun Un Rama. That's a pretty major flaw.
Damn thats SPECIAL ... Pretty awesome Adam
God, Adams partner must be such a wonderful and understanding person.
Adam is just a crafting genius. But aren't you glad he's not an evil genius?
what would he make? evil movie replicas?
***** I don't get it
***** okay, that are all games I never played^^
nudl3Zz You should try them.
Muhammad Tirtosupono I already would have tried them if I had just the slightest of interest in them but I don't
Was nervous watching it sit on the edge of the table.
Massive Tits
hummina hummina hummina....
Massive Tits Why?
Really nice build Adam.
Ah the joy of seeing galeforce 9 branded greenstuff tubes on the shelf :D
Anyone else notice the little blue doohickey that falls off after Adam adjusts the big Scorpion Cage thing at 10:02? Really hope it wasn't important!
One of my favorite builds! Kudos!
This place is paradise...
A plasma ball/bulb effect in those radio tubes would have been awesome.
Plasma ball set up in the fingertips would be better and closer to the movie.
The glow that he has is pretty close to the color a vacuum has for its heater, although it should be a little more red in the beginning and more yellow when warmed up.
I would have used a combo of tiny yellow, orange and red LEDs sanded and then glued together. You can then have the control board adjust the color to tune it or play with it for effect using those colors. It would run off of 3V instead of 12V, so there would be less heat and you could use a much smaller battery pack that would last WAY longer.
wauw now THIS is a prop to have!
Adam you are the Man! I wish I had a baby finger worth of your patience and talent. Thanks for sharing :-)
This is one of those occasional Tested videos where Adam just looks absolutely THRILLED. He's damn near giddy at the end when he puts it on and just fiddles lovingly while Will talks.
So awesome. Fantastic job Adam!
Adam has everything
would love to see him finish the ZF 1 gun from the Fifth Element movie he was working on. At least be nice to see a up date on it.
Amazing work Adam.
i loooove this Mecha-Glove, and i would also loooooove to see Adam bookend it with building a Right Hand of Doom.
when I finnish a big build I get the same happy face. Like a proud dad. and now im imagioning Adam holding the glove lion king style
I'm really not that much into cosplay, but this blew my mind!
I can believe how close to the edge of the table he is keeping that thing O_O
That is beautiful. You Adam, are a hardcore Hellboy fan. And I mean that in the best possible way.
:D
Please oh please revisit this.
Makes me wanna re-watch both movies
Please please please make kroanen's helmet/mask thing
Well done. Just gorgeous.
This is fantastic.
For future reference you can get an old sewing machine and wind counter if you want to do something like that again. it's how they wind guitar pickups
Can we get another video on this?? I really want to how well it turned out
