Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Blade Runner 2049 Helmet Parts!

  • Adam's back to replica prop building with some Blade Runner goodness! Adam recently acquired a perfect replica of Sapper Morton's helmet as seen in the opening of Blade Runner 2049. And in pursuit of creating a full costume to go along with that piece, he needs to make an articulating mechanical air hose cage that connects to the helmet. And instead of 3D printing it, he's going to hand machine it from scratch!

With the tabs on the pointed side of the chevron. This gives each joint a larger range of motion, and a more flexible tube over all. Good news. This has to be one of the best One Day Builds to date! Amazing craftsmanship, good vibes and some comedy as can be expected. But I also noticed a great soundtrack on timelapses and that ASMR segment topped it all off :D

Thank you very much for just taking the time to film (and then chose to SHOW us!) the like 3-5 mins or so of you just fooling around with and playing with this thing. Flopping it about all crazy and whatnot. 99% satisfying my burning desire to feel and want to do the exact same.

I'm currently trying to make a space suit, which was worn by Bo Shek in Star Wars, which was used before in the classic Doctor Who story Wheel in Space and which is basically an actual space suit: A Royal Air Force high altitude pressure suit made by a company named Windak back in the day. I hope, I can pull it off for Fedcon this June …

I was testing aluminum with grout remover , which was plain diluted hydrochloric acid , to see if it was soluble . It etched a thin black film on it like gun bluing does on steel . With a fume eliminating device , outdoor situation , or plenty of ventilation , this could have saved you time .
I liked your method of milling out parts in multiples . 👍👱‍♀️👍
Tapping threads internally must have been tedious 😬
I used to work in a tool & die shop 30 years ago , that also ran out piece part jobs on the side . That is where I came in as a machinist that eventually specialized in saw work . Watching your shop videos brought back memories 😁
    Edit :
On your video about revamping your Mitsutoyo collection , which I also enjoyed , "Little Toys" used to be the name they went by with English language nations , before they univeralized their Japanese pronunciation . If you find any of those , you would really be a proud collector .

Adam! When you asmr'd me into hyperspace I realised you have to make a replica of the robots from Matrix. Like...you have to and also if you don't know about Dead space...that suit is something I think you would enjoy making haha. Love your stuff ! Saved my sanity these last 2 years. Haha
    Best regards

I know Adam probably will never see this comment, but I was inspired by him to make my own Blade Runner blasters, I have two built and cusom painted, Officer K's blaster and a Luv blaster in a custom Japanese style. I also built the tablet Officer K uses in the car and sourced the pencil too. My house is rapidly filling with film stuff now, I even have a Tomb Raider Ice Axe.
I'm on to making a PKE and the 'signal jammers' from V for Vendetta next.
So thanks Adam for my new hobbies!

Think a small tent with fiberglass poles. Now cut most of the bottom out. You now have a large collapsible spray booth. Fast to set up and pack away when you don't need it.🤔
Of course you put your own spin on it. ✌

I've been watching Adam for far too long to care if he drools, he's still cool as shit in my books, it was pretty awesome watching him on TV, but holy damn it's a whole different experience seeing him on RUclips, he gets to do what he wants and he loves it, he's excited about it, it makes me love it it's so awesome

The one thing I love most about our dearest Adam Savage... is his ability to accept and admit to simple yet potentially embarrassing bodily actions/functions... Stay humble. Stuff happens! Live, Breathe, Move on.

These things are called Bend restrictors, or Vertebrae bend restrictor, usually these are huuuge and are used for underwater cabling for the oil and gas industry. There might be one you could buy off the shelf, although I have not seen one, but heck, making it from scratch is way moore fun and satisfying!

Great video Adam. I have to say that when you were playing with the hose cage, it reminded me of the Borg Queen in First Contact where Picard ripped out her spine. Even the sound it makes is similar as well. Love the channel and all the videos. Thanks for keeping me sane in this CRAZY world we live in. Dan

Hey, with that tumbler, I've found that if I put quite a bit of dishwashing detergent in the water, it keeps your stones from loading up, when you drain the water out. It takes most of the funky shit with it, and your parts come out clean. Plus, if you anodized your finished parts, that ruddy finish from the ceramic rocks in the tumbler, comes out very consistent across the part.

This was a great build, and that's quite a bit of planning, sequencing, and machining. The one thing I notice watching professional machinists is that they tend to run the autofeeds on their machines more than casual machinists.

*Hey Adam! I have a suggestion for your video about the polished aluminum foil ball…*
*Cut it in half with a water jet! If you don’t have one then you should send the ball to “Waterjet Channel” and have them cut it for you. They have a 60,000 psi water jet! Plus it could be a nice little collab of both your RUclips channels.*
