Earlier this year, we teamed up with effects artist Frank Ippolito to build a Shadow Stormtrooper costume using a new kit from Anovos. We showed you how to use air tools to cut and grind the armor pieces to fit your body. In the second part of our build, we start putting those pieces together to assemble the armor in time for Dragon*Con!

Frank is really good on camera. Great voice, and generally comes across as a genuinely nice person.

+Aaron Mac In defense to Frank, I think most everyone on those shows are meant to act like douche bags. Its a competition and It's what get's ratings.

I feel like that kit is way too expensive for having to do that much clean up.
+DarkJedi3000 Its for hobbyists who are also star wars enthusiasts. The clean up is just part of the hobby.
+Ray Purchase Could be, but for vacuum formed pieces of plastic it is still waaaay too expensive. The material costs for all those pieces is 25 bucks at the most.
+micglou Aye, but it'd be all the R&D, manufacturing, licensing and general infrastructure required for such a niche product. Its not like they'll sell 100,000's of these things.

I'm sorry, but that's just bull... even if they only sold a few of them. In small amounts it doesn't take big infrastructure etc... just a couple of workers and a couple of models and vacuum formers. And because it's licensed they must've had access to 3D models etc, but they still deliver a very rough product... The profit margin on these are huge without a doubt, even taking in account every aspect... or the licensing on it is just ridiculously high and that still counts as profit only not for the manufacturer. 1700 dollars is far from a reasonable price... it's pure theft by whoever cashes in on those (looking at you Disney!)
+DarkJedi3000 then kits are not for you. because this is exactly what someone ordering a kit over the assembled version is expecting and wanting.

1/8 ballnose endmill in a pencil grinder would be a dream. Bit of a learning curve, but it finishes/deburrs heavenly.
All that work and then we are shown the completed suit for two seconds--and only from one angle. Thanks for rewarding my time.
I guess you guys should have attached the back hand piece directly to the glove for a better finish.

Of the many things that Disney had to make non-cannon, this is in my top 5 things they should've kept.
@27:55 The knees looks bad, but the rest is awesome, and yes its because there is no PROPER guidline so very good job tested. i hope in the future that would get fixed.

YES!!! FINALY!!! I have be eagerly impatiently waiting for this video for months... well it feels like months anyway.
black pop rivets after using the cement would be a good idea with the straps, the cement can dry rot after awhile
Lining the inside with thin foam would make it pretty comfortable and look more legitimate

It would look good with some titanium gold pin striping for the Novatrooper look.
I like the Star Wars storm trooper amour (and especially, the Shadow Trooper amour) as in Star Wars it's self, the real Storm Trooper amour is made out of plastic (be it that the plastic may have added high, head resistance to counteract the damaging effects from the laser beams that come from blasters).
So if you buy this kit, your not buying something that's 'suppose' to look like Storm trooper or Shadow a Trooper amour instead, your actually assembling real Stormtrooper/Shadow trooper amour if you think about it :D

You can make pretty dang strong ABS cement with scrap ABS and acetone you can find the blend online its is better since you can make the glue in the color that you are gluing. But if you cant get pure acetone don't try it

Say, what do you think of using hot glue with the PVC or ABS armor? I'm guessing that it's pretty elastic so it could work better than other glues. Also be cleaner and dry faster (more 'cooling down' rather than 'dry', but you know what I mean).

+Francesco Gavardi Not really. They're air powered. As soon as you let it go, it stops. You barely flinch or twitch your thumb and they stop working.
Do you guys have any recommendations for transporting the parts without scratching or damaging them..?

This isn't a slight at Frank or Norm in any way because they did the best they could with what they got, however final result from this product is nowhere near what it costs to buy. The concept is great, but considering how much it costs, how much effort and work has to go into it, and what the final result is when you get there, I'm afraid this is a bit of a disappointment.

+zack9912000 Consider the helmet cost 250. So the rest of the armor is 450 for the kit. And the plastic looks thin but its actually quite sturdy

a question about the vacuum forming process: do they form it with the transparent protective layer on the sheet of plastic or do they stick it afterwards? do you have to remove the inside one (vacuum side) before the forming?

Went to the Anovos site and we disappointed to see these are now almost $1000 for a kit. I know this was a few years ago but really, that's a little more than inflation.
