Your doing a fantastic job with the Builder Series Shane, Top Job!!! Thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
+allea89 Thanks Allea. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and to leave some feedback. Cheers
Thank you Shane. I learned a new word "sisalation" which apparently is a brand name unique to Australia. Google is wonderful. I am quite interested in the different building methods you have. Here, we never put a moisture barrier on the exterior as it will trap moisture in the walls. Our vapour barrier goes on the interior between the drywall and the insulation. We do use "house wrap" often called Tyvek (brand name). It prevents water from the outside entering but allows moisture from inside the walls to escape.
I am quite enjoying your build.
+peggyt1243 Thanks Peggy.
I did my apprenticeship in Sydney, moved home to nz after 12 years. Was having a hard time using 2.7m wrap in the wind today haha. Was telling the boys about the pne we use it aus, wat easier you can solo wrap. Good video! Thank you for the refresher course ❤
No worries at all mate! Thanks for taking the time to watch 👍🇦🇺😁🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Shane, I used sisilation in conjunction with GreenStuff polyester insulation in the walls of my shed (R 3.0). This is because the western Queensland sun is a fair bit savage. I also put the GreenStuff in the ceiling over the suspended ceiling. It all works well, was warm in the winter and cool in summer. There is one thing I did a couple of years ago, I did the same as you with the wrap, but I kept it going over the windows and door then cut out the holes for them. Much easier than cutting the sisilation before tacking it. I also used the same idea for the gyprock. Cheers Mate, thanks for your great ideas. Rossco
+rosscoesmiff Yeah Rossco, it does get pretty warm up there. You did a good job with the insulation. Well done. Cheers mate
Bloody beautiful work there knackers, and another ripper vid. You know, it is absolutely too easy sitting here on my bum watching you do all the work. Good to see you again Shane, thanks for the share mate, and i'll cop ya ron...
+James Blanton Someone's gotta sit on their bum James. You just happen to be the lucky one :-) Cheers mate
😄 I'm a Bricklayer, there probably having a cup of tea and got to comfortable to move.👍
it's funny to see that other countries do things differently,we have a D.P.M vapour barrier on the inside of the timber frame after the king span insulation boards.
and a breathable foil kit paper on the outside with the silver foil facing outwards possibly due to different climates.
then the brickwork.
apart from that your project is looking great.
look forward to watching your videos.Take care.👍
+John Fullerton G'day John. You're spot on regarding the difference in climate in relation to the insulation requirements. Hope you've got a heap of work on. Cheers mate
Thumbs up as usual ,I'm enjoying the Owner Builder Series :)
+TheAusGamer Excellent mate. As always l appreciate your support. Cheers
that was a beauty Shano! never heard of sisalation paper before, love that word. anytime i hear a new word, thats all ill be saying the next day...drives people nuts! :)
+Albert Kelly Thanks Albert. :-)
Looking good, Shane.
+Steve Collins Thanks Steve. :-)
cheers mate love your videos always helpful
Thanks Larry!.....much appreciated mate 👍😁
Great stuff mate, some of the bloody cowboy builders in Britain should be made to sit and watch your channel. Coming on great there, back to putting my ceiling up and kettle's on here ;).
+Kani Fuker Good stuff Kani Fuker! I'll be over for a cuppa…one sugar and a touch of milk. Cheers mate :-)
Haha aslong as you don't ask for Earl Grey mate ;).
Great to see you back on Shane, also nice use of the saw horses you built. Its great to see your getting a lot done on the place.....Finished by Christmas?Until next time my colonial cousin.Tony.
+Woodworking Brewer G'day Tony. Teah the sawhorses have been very handy. They're holding up well regarding how rough they've been treated :-) I was hoping by xmas but l'm now thinking maybe Feb. Cheers mate
You make great videos
+cs weapons Thanks Cs Weapons. Appreciate your comment. Cheers
It looks like you are progressing. Great! It is nice to have neighbors that you get along with, make building that wall much easier. Did you have to cut the paper for the top band or does it come in various widths? Keep up the great work.
Thom in San Diego
+Thom Lindgren Hi Thom. I actually chopped a full roll in half with my drop saw for that top layer. It made the installation so much easier and l didn't waste as much paper. Cheers
So good
Thanks Jeremy 👍😁🇦🇺
I still cant work out why the silver side would not face outwards. To reflect the heat from outside?
Looking good mate!
+Summers Woodworking Thanks for watching Brian. Cheers mate
Question would appreciate your help
So from the bottom I let it hang past the timber by 50ml.
And I didn’t use tape what’s the Porpose of the tape ? I do have the tape and I will use it around the windows only around the sides. The top and bottom of need to so water don’t get trapped and run down the sarking instead is that right ?
The sarking is taped to make it weather proof and also to keep everything in tact until the cladding goes on 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads cause I’m thinking the brick layer is gonna come and insert his ties and rip into the sarking !
So I guess sarking. Better than no dark in regardless of how you wrap it
@@Semaj.18272 Hi Saif....the Brickie nails the brick tie to the face of the stud so he doesn't actually damage the sarking 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads Yeha even the twist ties
hi good one mate it is coming on good
+david clarke Thanks David
i am very curious why this vapor barrier is put on first as in the states here we sheet the walls to the framing then apply this vapor barrier before installing windows and doors to be basically foil taped of some sorts before the brick layer comes. some will use tyvek which keeps moisture from coming in but will breathe outwards. inside after all electrical and plumbing is done then we normally insulate then a vapor barrier such as 4 mill poly plastic then the sheetrock.
+whitewolf8758 G'day Whitewolf. Over here the climate is a lot different to yours. We don't get the extremes of cold and heat so our insulation requirements are much less. Cheers mate
+shaneconlan1 i get the weather difference but wondering why there is no sheeting(plywood or osb) on the outside before the poly goes on? thats the main support of keeping your house straight and durable. there is one company here that does what you did and 99 percent of the homes fail within 6 to 8 years as they are very flimsy without the sheeting. only reason they do this is to cut corners and cost. thanks again.
Staple gun works great you'll be surprised doesn't come off easy
Yeah l also use staples as well Josh 👍👍
Thanks for another great video, Shane. Does that knee still hurt like a "Schusenhausen?"
+David Letz Thanks David. No the knees on the mend thankfully!! I've been wearing a compression knee guard with magnets inserted into the material. It seems to have done the trick :-) Cheers
Interesting, right on the property line. Hopefully your always friendly with the neighbors our they might start building mad max cars in their garage at 3am :)
+woodturningjohn LOL…actually my neighbours name is Max so that would be very appropriate :-) He's a god old bloke and we get on great. Cheers John
That is funny, I had forgotten that. The build is looking great and I am enjoying the series.
My builder just placed this wrap stuff behind the inside wall Gyprock with silver side facing out and no woolly stuff between the wrap and outside wall. He said don’t need the wooly stuff, is this correct? Or am I going to roast in the heat?
Every new house here in Australia has the insulation (wooly stuff) installed. The insulation paper needs to be installed on the outside of the wall and not on the inside of the wall. Good luck 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads damn so I’ve been ripped off
Uncle Knackers is such a legend. Someone should write to the Prime Minister and recomend him for a knighthood I reckon !
Hahahahahhh...glad you found the vid useful Brendan 👍😁
great video as usual.
do you already have a place for the palletwood wall? ;)
+Martijn van Tooren G'day Martijn. Funny you should mention that. I was only thinking about that exact same thing today! Cheers mate :-)
its coming along now mate
+THE_SNOWMAN Yes mate..it's all go at the moment. Cheers
So goods
Cheers Jeremy 👍😁
You might note that the foil side needs about 1/2" clear space to be an effective radiant barrier.
+Wynn White Spot on Wynn. Cheers
good job. keep it going.
In fact i just came back here to comment
Thinking what else to watch , i looked up didis comedy show. and guess what came up as the first link ??
'Building a house - part 1 /2''
+terryyouth I checked out the show. Classic :-) Cheers Terry
Shane Mate , Its getting there, Allot of work, but it looks like it is coming together pretty quick. ............ (BTW , i think ya need a hair cut ..lol :P hahahaha)
+Ben Hollist Haircut!! …….:why l oughta!!! …Mate, l've figured that l'm losing my hair at an alarming rate so this is my last hurrah before it's all gone :-)
why not use 8'/9' house wrap?
The reason is that the walls are over 10' tall.
thought it was Chuck Norris in thumbnail
😂
