  • Today we're comparing two of my favorite computers in recent times. My very first apple computer was a 13" MacBook Pro from 2015 and I'll always have a soft spot on my heart for this product line, but the 16" from 2019 is an absolute monster of a computer that trounces it in every performance way.
    But does that really matter?
    Lets find out!

    the 16 inch is really amazing, but its honestly insane and unacceptable that an almost 3000 dollar-after-tax base model piece of tech comes with a 720p camera in 2020.

Great screen, great keyboard, impressive cooling, and macOS is such a nice experience! I ended up getting the third tier base model which is more than enough for me (I’m a software developer). I also tried a few games on it and it’s pretty darn smooth! Minecraft was the most impressive; I heard the fans spinning, felt the bottom of my laptop, and it wasn’t hot at all! • @aelaan12
    @aelaan12 4 года назад

    Couple of things: I use the 16" because I need a larger screen and I still have the external monitor connected to a TB3 dock that provides just enough juice to keep mine alive. No I do not edit videos or large photoshop with tons of overlays and blends but I manage cloud storage and I do manage backups. Most of that is done on the server side however having at least 12 windows open on my screens daily still make the processor go into the high 70's - I am excited for the Dell XPS 17 to be honest :-). Today the refresh came out and it is a bit of a letdown for a lot of people, yet I truly enjoy the larger laptop. The past two, almost three months, it has been on at least 12 hours a day. I do take my laptops out of the house at some point, but for now it is fine, I have my setup the way I love it. The other major issue with the 13" is the heat, that thing gets so almighty hot and I work on the laptop most of the time. I love the keyboard, be it the butterfly or the scissor keys but I like to have my screen a little closer. The 16" MBP does get warm but I have made some changes and I do not care if the fans run a little more often. Last year I went through four 13" MBPs and I even bought the fully decked out and still could not work comfortably on it with the palm rests overly hot.

    Lovely video bro. You are killing it with your reviews. Just a question and need your take on this. Am getting the 13 inch pro base model this week. Stuff i do : Video editing in 1080p and 4k at times, spotify, lots of netflix and youtube, reading articles, ms office, outlook and zoom calls. Will the 8 gb RAM suffice?

      Aside from future-proofing your device, there's definitely a significant improvement if you go for a 16gb ram. If you want to add a bit of storage as well, I would suggest just go for the higher end 13" model as you can also benefit from more Thunderbolt 3 ports, better processor, better RAM, better speakers, and better cooling among other things, for a small price difference. However, if that's too much then the base model plus $120 more for a 16gb RAM upgrade is recommended. They also currently have an ongoing educational promo ($100 off + free AirPods) in the US. Cheers!

    Im in the market now for an update to my 13" mbp 2015. My biggest concern is that on my current laptop Photoshop / Illustrator and other graphics heavy apps struggle when I work on semi complex files, and even if I just hook up my external monitor, UI animations already begin to suffer.
    Is the 2020 13" iris good enough to solve that or is it going to have to be the 16" for me?

      I've watch tons of the 2020 mini videos because I'm looking to upgrade, and most people like it very much, but recommend to get the Core i5 version (8RAM and 512SSD, $1099), and ONLY if you do lots of video editing, then i7. Not for gaming tho, or almost any Mac for that matter. If it helps I've been using a Mini since 2012 and it's been working fine for the last 7 years, tho you can feel it struggling if you do a lot of PS editing, for example. If you got monitor and mouse and keyboard, go for it. If not, I'd consider the 21.5" iMac

    • @edcgadgets-de
      @edcgadgets-de 4 года назад +1

      Maybe you appreciate my POV as well... I use an iMac 5K daily and love that beautiful display. I also have a windows tower for gaming. I wanted another Mac for some experiments. I bought the mini with i7, 512GB, 8GB (upgraded to 32, eaaasy job) and 10gb lan. Why the last? Well I’m experimenting with 10G, I bought a 10G switch and my next NAS will have 10Gig as well. So I bought USB and HDMI Switches and now I have the mini on the same setup as my windows tower. Whatever I feel like I can power up any computer and use the keyboard, mouse and monitor on the desk. That’s great. And now my GF moved in and she doesn’t have a computer so I gave her the mini with an 1080p Monitor i had lying around and my old Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. She uses the setup daily. Now brace yourself, I don’t have a laptop, when I have to go somewhere (University where I have a wall power outlet or a friends home) I grab the Mac mini and my Bluetooth Magic Mouse and keyboard and use it with just my iPad Pro 12.9” as monitor via sidecar. I love that machine, it’s so universal and versatile!

    Just ordered the 2020 16” MacBook Pro, excited to use the power and screen for music production. Didn’t upgrade the graphics card despite that being the main difference between the 2019 and 2020. It should still be fine for any video editing I choose to do, however. It’s expensive as hell, but in my opinion it’s worth it in the end, at least for my use-cases.

    Just got the 13” one with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. It’s powerful for what I do with it. Just didn’t have the budget for a 16” one anyways. It works even on premiere pro editing 4K60 videos. It’s just when hitting the render button, it’ll take a while to export the video file. On Final Cut Pro, it’ll export pretty much in real time in 4K60. Other than that, it’s the right machine for me. I’ll put an external graphics card on the MacBook Pro if I need it.

    What do you think of XPS 15 compared to MacBook 13? The XPS seems more compact and runs small for a 15 inch but offers more performance than the MacBook 13. Seems like it might be a good compromise between performance and size.

  • @bryan_ferrer
    @bryan_ferrer 4 года назад

    There are only a handful of reviewers who try to debunk that a low-tier or 13' Macbook can not handle heavy tasks. I have seen the Macbook 12 do 4k and it is impressive. But what most reviewers get wrong is that they do not expound that 1080p quality is still good and superior.
    4k is a gimik and not a necessity in video editing. My multimedia friends and I myself still use the air ( some still rock the 4gb ram by the way) and it still performs well.
    I would love to see reviewers do stress test other than video editing such as music , animation , etc. This is the best way to categorize rather than just saying either this is only good for student or light tasks.

    For myself, being a music producer, and only as a hobby, I want this laptop because I know it has the power to do likely 5x what i need it to do. I would only be running 2 to 3 apple programs at once, for example, logic, safari (or chrome) and maybe maps (for hiking related purposes) and messages or something else very minor. However, hearing about how good the speakers are, i would imagine having that capability would be very convenient if i can add drums or whatever instrument, and know that what I'm hearing is good enough to actually choose to put it in the project without grabbing headphones or externals to mix it. Obviously mixing comes into play when i would have the time to do so, but the speakers, and 4 usb ports alone, make it worth it (with the 16" display). Also, for those complaining about the camera, yes a 1080p camera is really all we would ever expect and it sucks they havent stepped it up even THAT much. But...just buy a 20$ 1080p, or slightly more expensive 4k webcam and utilize one of the USB ports, if you are someone like me who would almost never need to use all 4 at a time. With all that being said, I plan on buying the 16" base model, because at the most extensive use, I would be mixing a 8-16 ish track logic kor garageband) project, while running other apple apps, and again maybe a couple others. But besides logic, even the i3 chips could handle that well enough, nevermind the 16" processor. I do enjoy photography also, though dont see myself ever doing 4k video editing per se. Though it is nice knowing I absolutely could, all day long without the computer having any issues, or any serious ones anyways. Having the 16" display, in my opinion, is worth it alone when you do want to see your pictures (let's say, the highest quality pictures from a flagship smartphone, galaxy s10/20...iPhone 11/pro... etc etc...blown up and easily viewable. I do feel it would make light photo editing that much more enjoyable. Even if the 13" display proves itself very worthy as well.
    I have already seen the 16" for a sale price of 2,099$ at bestbuy. That....from what i have heavily researched and come to understand...is a SMOKIN deal. If you have the money for the 16", I'd say go for it because besides being bigger, and "less" portable, it is worth every penny. The only people who need more, are the ones stepling it up to the i9 and all that which SO many average users would never need. Even if they make a 14", the 16" is a admittedly large, but beautiful display, and the touch bar has increasingly become enjoyed by most reviewers i have watched. Touch i.d...4 usb ports, a killer processor and solid graphics card for basic editing, the magic keyboard, and track pad, all add up to being a bulletproof design and machine. And after all this ranting, im going to go back to seeing when I can finally order one! Looking forward to running logic on it!
