    Some helpful items for machine knitters:
    LK 150 Knitting Machine.
    This machine is very similar to the machine in this video. The one in the video is no longer in production. The positive side to buying a used machine is price, however, the machine will need to be cleaned and most likely repaired. This can be difficult for beginners who aren't sure how the machine is supposed to work. The benefits of a new machine are that it will be complete, clean and in good working order right out of the box.

    Your machine comes with two claw weights but it is very helpful to have more.

    These are great for seaming or transferring stitches.

    Mini Metal Spring Clamps.
    I like these clamps for weighting down yarn tails. They are a nice size and weight and they have rubber tips which makes it easy to grab yarn quickly.
    amzn.to/37Dnvv7
    Yarn winder.
    Yarns, unless they are sold as cakes or cones, will have to be re-wound into a cake, otherwise it is impossible to get an even flow of yarn to the yarn feeder. This basic one is inexpensive and will handle a 100 gram skein of yarn.
    amzn.to/373uIVH
    Crayola washable markers.
    These markers are one of my favorite tools to use with my mid-gauge plastic machines, especially for hand-selecting patterns. Because they are easily wiped off with a damp paper towel, they are wonderful for marking your machine bed. I sometimes even write knitting notes on my carriage with them. Although other generic brand washable markers will work in a pinch, the Crayolas are the best.

    Japanese screwdrivers which work better than Philips on Japan made knitting machines:

    Books.
    There are many great books on machine knitting that can be found on the used book market, but there are still a few in print. Here are some books I highly recommend that are very helpful for owners of mid-gauge hobby machines such as the LK 150 or the KX 350.

    Hi Anna!
    I am a handknitter but for about 10 years I’ve been wanting to buy a knitting machine but was afraid I wouldn’t know how to use it. I found your tutorials couple months ago and decided to buy a brother kx350. I had to clean all my needles and change the strip and today I began my first project. I made this hat and torn ou just perfect. .((Thank you )) so much!
    I bought this machine because of YOUR TUTORIALS !
    My goal is to make socks. That’s my biggest desire.
    Would you consider to make a simple socks on this machine for beginners?
    The one you have on the other machine was not easy. Right at start , I don’t know what is “t” on the machine ….lol
    Lastly, sorry so many questions, I had trouble with my yarn running around and getting stuck. Do you wind your yarns like in this video so they work better ?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      The LK 150 is a mid-gauge machine and it works best with medium weight yarns (weight 3 or 4 in the US. ) It sounds like you like hats knit with thinner yarn; if so you might consider getting a standard gauge machine. There are a few still being made today but many available on the used market.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      When you hang live stitches from waste yarn it creates a nice flat hem. I'm not sure what you mean by a cast on stitch; do you mean e-wrap or crochet cast-on or something else? You can certainly hang any of these cast ons; just a different look and method to the one I show in this video.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  4 года назад

      Thank you! Yes, you could easily do this on a standard gauge machine with more stitches and rows and a thinner yarn. The initial cast on would be a little different depending on what kind of machine you have but everything else would be the same.

    How much are these if you know by chance?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад

      These machines are no longer in production but you can find them used pretty often. There is a very similar machine which is still being made called Silver Reed LK 150. They cost about $450 new.

      It’s a light #4 yarn. I showed it in the beginning of the video. Walmart Mainstays.

    Is this a bulky yarn machine?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад

      This is a mid-gauge knitting machine. 7 millimeters between the needles. Bulky machines are 9 millimeters.

      @@AnnaHaferman Thank you. I believe mine are 5 mm between each needle.

    Hey, can you knit this hat on a Empisal pb8 KH91? Thank you 😊

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      Yes, but your machine is a standard gauge machine, so you would need to cast on more stitches and do more rows. You would also need a much thinner yarn.

    • @agnesmeyer4391
      @agnesmeyer4391 3 года назад

      Thank you, can you maybe tell me how many more stitches?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      @@agnesmeyer4391 Probably about 154 total if using a fingering weight yarn. You will also have to adjust the number of rows to about 90 or so. These are just estimates- it really depends on your yarn and tension. My suggestion is to try it with some inexpensive yarn and see how it goes. If this is your first project on your machine, make sure your sponge bar is good otherwise you will run into all kinds of problems!

    Can you do this on a Toyota ks 901

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  4 года назад

      I have no experience with Toyota machines but I think it could be done. The gauge of the machine is different so you will need a different number of stitches and rows. You would also have to use a thinner yarn.
