Actually, no. If taken seriously, this quote would pretty much destroy all of scientific research, since any scientific model or hypothesis is initially unsupported by evidence. The better way to put it would be "Whatever is not supported by evidence, does not merit positive belief in its validity." for the record, I'm an atheist too. I'm just pointing out the obvious and fatal flaw in this quote if taken at face value.
many years ago, when I was in church, I heard the preacher say, "if there is disagreement between the Bible and the facts, then the facts are wrong." I wish I would have walked out and never looked back. it took another twenty something years, and several attempts at several religions before religion finally abandoned me.
I'm Christian, watching this video right now to hear if this guy's got anything strong against me, decided to look down. The false dichotomy is easily the biggest problem with any rational debate with Christians, and while it exists dominantly among christians when it comes to religion (when it comes to leftists, which are *usually* atheists, it's western culture as a whole), it's not exclusively so. I've found atheists have a hard time debating me when i have no problem conceding that parts of the bible might actually be false and/or not even intended for factual purpose (parables for example). On the flip side, largely this mentality is why science was so strongly supported by the catholic church. The basic idea was "we can use the bible to ensure that we didn't screw up the experiment, but if the expreiment is consistenly in opposition of the bible, then clearly our interpretation of the book of truth is wrong." They had this idea a long time ago, that, i assume due to the reformation, got lost, that the bible was a collection of books, some fictional with more philosophical value and some historical with factual value: both of which are from the eyes of man regarding the divine, rather than from the divine itself. Somewhere along the line we lost this bit, which is sad, because it really doesn't have to be this way that we throw out actual wisdom of the ancients that can be verified (especially in regards to how humans interact with each other) simply because we might not like this bit or that bit. Why should the bible be thrown out as a whole, when the basis of debate is to "separate the wheat from the chaff"? A flat earther is still right when he says the earth exists, he's just wrong when he says the earth is flat.
Aron could probably drop some anti-creationist bars with that talking speed, God DAMN! In all seriousness, fucking love Aron, always a pleasure to listen to, always has his argument points done properly, and always has magnificent hair.
Him and Hitchens have lost debates. When called on the spot they can't produce enough facts to prove they're right. Knowing what you're talking about and having "faith"in what you're talking about aren't the same.
9:00 "Why would you want to continue believing something you know is not true?" The answer essentially breaks down likes this: the fear of the loss of one's identity.
Good point. I speak to a Christian each week about her beliefs and have pointed out the red flags, flaws in her beliefs and how so many of the bible stories have been debunked. They did not happen at all. Christianity is her worldview, identity, she wants to be like jesus, listens only to hill song etc. Her beliefs have never been challenged. She would be lost if christianity was proven to be false. It really does destroy the human faculties. It's sad! I almost think if it was proven to be false she would still believe in it. That's how powerful this nonsense is
I remember one day figuring out Santa wasn't real and mom and dad lied to me...and I felt insulted when they insisted it was true...later I figured out the bible is complete and utter nonsense.
45 mins to an hour a day, 5 days a week 9 months out of the year, over a decade of repeatedly telling kids if they disagree with evolution they will be mocked and laughed out of the scientific community and never have a career, evolutionary biology being a required course for literally an education in any field, every movie, tv show, commercial pushing evolution as the root of our existence, vs 45 minutes to an hour a week randomly being told God created you...who is deceiving and working the hardest to create believers in their lie? evolution requires more faith then seeing similar traits and understanding there was a similar architect.
One is making dogmatic assertions without evidence, the other is showing evidence and teaching the kids how to understand logic and make discoveries of their own.

That choice people make of remaining honest or remaining creationist, I started to call that AronRa's fork. Can we make that a thing? For atheists, AronRa's fork should be as well understood as Hitchen's razer and Sagan's law. It's the defining moment in most debates and I've seen it happen a lot. All creationists and other people caught up in cultish movements such as MLM or anti-feminism inevitably reach AronRa's fork.
"Once sincere believers begin to investigate the evidence and arguments on either side of this alleged controversy, they will very quickly face a life-altering choice: whether to remain honest, or whether to remain creationist, because it is no longer possible to be both." -AronRa's Fork
AronRa That. I've seen it happen for other belief systems as well. It's not just for creationism. My wife had to make that same life altering choice when it came to vaccines. I personally had to make that choice when it comes to feminism. The alleged controversy between feminists and anti-fems does not exist in the real world. Honesty required me to become a feminist.
I think I'd like to only use his first name. Rolls off the tongue easier. Hitchen's razor and Sagan's law don't use their full names either. But 'Ra's Fork' doesn't seem as flowing as 'Aron's Fork'.
This is amazing! Where can I find more information about the Tower of babel history? (I know I can google it, but if you can provide trustful sources, that’d be great)
My favorite quote for what books should people recommend for turning someone away from Christianity and into an atheist was Penn Gillette when he said that of all the science books and all the philosophy books, all the books on atheism or anything like that the best one to read would be the Bible, because of all of the contradictions and all the monsters things that God did
This is how a prominent Christian thinker defines the term 'faith' in a recent book on science & religion, "Religious belief does not depend upon a dispassionate analysis of evidence that leads to conviction beyond a reasonable doubt. It is always a commitment made in response to an insight that is individual and unique." 'The Big Questions in Science and Religion,' Keith Ward, p. 104
I once worked for a steel fabrication company making handrails and balcony rails that were to be installed at Caesar Chavez High School in Phoenix, Arizona. I am certain those handrails existed. I made them myself. They had substance. I hope they were installed at Caesar Chavez High School, but I never saw it happen. But Caesar Chavez High School was opened and is now in operation. I take that as evidence that the handrails were installed, even though I have never been to Caesar Chavez High School and have never seen it except for the handrails that I made. I have faith that Caesar Chavez High School exists. I never saw Caesar Chavez, but I have faith that there was such a person. Faith is exactly what the Apostle Paul said it was.

controversy, they will very quickly face a life-altering choice: whether to remain honest, or whether to remain creationist, because it is no longer possible to be both." -AronRa's Fork
Territorialism may be good for brevity in conversation, but it is no replacement for making sure EVERYONE knows what is actually being talked about.
I think I'd like to only use his first name. Rolls off the tongue easier. Hitchen's razor and Sagan's law don't use their full names either. But 'Ra's Fork' doesn't seem as flowing as 'Aron's Fork'.
Put me down as another vote for calling it "Aron's Fork".
The irony of the add preceeding this video was epic..
What add did you get? I didn't get anything ironic before this video.
42ndLife Something about voting for God...
let me guess: "honor god with your vote"
I got a star wars Rogue One movie trailer :P
I don't know why but I've been getting adds for some new age cult recently...
We're doing it 'ass' backwards. Man that is good.
Aron, how could we find out when you visit different states?
I live in California but wasn't aware you were out here.
No this is Patrick - follow him on facebook.
My brother prays for me and I think for him. It seems to work.
Wow, the introductory speaker mispronounced your name two different ways.
She wanted to get it right at least one time
This is amazing! Where can I find more information about the Tower of babel history? (I know I can google it, but if you can provide trustful sources, that’d be great)
My favorite quote for what books should people recommend for turning someone away from Christianity and into an atheist was Penn Gillette when he said that of all the science books and all the philosophy books, all the books on atheism or anything like that the best one to read would be the Bible, because of all of the contradictions and all the monsters things that God did
True...who exactly wants to spend eternity with the biblical god...a mass murderer...a temptor...a manipulator...not me
I can see the changes you're making with your street epistemology !essons. God job.
God troll....
@ 9:27 Heckled my Matt Dillahunty (?)
Samson's magical hair well I can believe that one that made me LMFAO.
No online cubits-to-meters converter? LTFG!
(Specifically, go to Google.com and type "22 cubits in meters" into the search bar...)
This is how a prominent Christian thinker defines the term 'faith' in a recent book on science & religion,
"Religious belief does not depend upon a dispassionate analysis of evidence that leads to conviction beyond a reasonable doubt. It is always a commitment made in response to an insight that is individual and unique."
'The Big Questions in Science and Religion,' Keith Ward, p. 104
Baked into permanent documents, are you saying they were the first to try "cooking the books"?
Aron rocks
Oh... oh.. that introduction...
Faith is exactly what the Apostle Paul said it was.

holy crap, did you take speed before this talk?
ShadeyBladey
nah he was talking even faster in this one. He really seemed like he was on some kind of stimulant.
stiimuli. he thinks so quickly and speaks so quickly and believes we all can, too. think of it, rather, as double your money's worth in half the usual time.
aaron ray would never take drugs
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing AronRay's all new "Underdog Super Energy Pill."
Your weak mind just cannot keep up.
