Aron, I took my first university biology class last week. The first lecture was on what science is, it’s purpose, and the actual difference between a theory and a law. The entire time, I was sitting there grinning like an idiot because I was saying in my head “Aron Ra already explained that to me” for almost every sentence. To put in my pennyworth...I am a soil scientist who worked for three and a half years on the National Soil Map Project in the Kingdom of Jordan. We collected detailed soil profile descriptions in about 100,000 locations all across the country (about 25,000 of which were done by me) from the Syrian border to the north, Iraqi border to the east, Saudi Arabia to the south, and Israel and the occupied lands to the west. In all that work the evidence of a flood having once covered the land was zero, absolutely none! You would think that if there had been even a regional flood covering just the biblical lands you would find evidence in Jordan, but there is none. Plenty of evidence supporting other things, such as a greater extent of milder conditions with slightly heavier rainfall in biblical times, but no flood. So if you want it from me, who has actually been there and looked in enormous detail, no flood not even in the heart of the Middle East.
And inevitably the apologist also goes back to catastrophism to squash a huge time scale into the supposed biblical timescale of 6,000 years or so, it all had to happen in one huge event. Again no, there is ample evidence that it all happened slowly over millions of years. Catastrophism was thrown out by geomorphologists 130-150 years ago as it was a theory that had zero merit and zero evidence.

Why Jesus followers so easily and fully embrace MAGA cultism, QAnon conspiracy theories, and effectively serve as a propaganda arm of the Republican Party.When you belong to a religion that tells you to dismiss logic and reason in favor of faith and obedience, it’s not that big of a leap for worshipers to accept a difference kind of mythology. When you’re taught from a young age to avoid challenging authority and told to keep critical questions to yourself (or to “just have faith”), why would anyone be surprised when you fall for the flimsiest of conspiracies? Because they’ve chosen their ego above everything else and any threat to that is unacceptable. It always boils down to them stroking their own ego.

If anyone thinks the Bible is the "word of God" and not ancient authors speaking for their imaginary god, they need to read the below article from a critical Biblical scholar and spend some time reading the other articles on his website.
"So for example, when we read carefully what Yahweh says in the book of Leviticus, namely that the Aaronids (the sons of Aaron only), are high priests contrary to the Levites, that they alone are Yahweh’s mediators and the Levites are reduced to mere ministers of the Aaronids, that only through sacrifice can one atone for sins and not confession as preached by the Levites, or more precisely the Levite’s Yahweh, etc., *it can be no coincidence that in these laws and commandments,* ***which are placed on the mouth of Yahweh,*** *that Yahweh himself is presented advocating and legitimating the very views and beliefs of the specific priestly guild writing the text, and, contrary to the views and beliefs of their rivals, the Levites and the Levite’s Yahweh!* We will examine this more closely when we get to the contradictions in these books. But just studying the Bible alone, scientifically, affords us the occasion *to see that many of these so-called words of Yahweh are* ***actually the very words of the texts’ authors.*** When we see numerous texts employing this ancient literary technique, and moreover, ***presenting Yahweh as the spokesperson for their own views and agenda,*** *and* ***contrary*** *to Yahweh’s other words in other texts written by other authors employing the same technique,* how can one conclude otherwise.
In other words, when in the composite text that we now call the Bible we find: Yahweh declaring that only Aaronids can officiate as his priests and Yahweh declaring that all Levites can officiate as high priest; Yahweh declaring that sin is atoned through confession and Yahweh declaring that sin is only expiated through the sacrificial cult, no exceptions; Yahweh declaring that he gave laws and commandments at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that he only gave the Ten Commandments at Sinai; Yahweh commanding to exterminate all the Canaanites without pity and Yahweh declaring to tolerate them and live in their midst; Yahweh declaring that the wilderness generation were disloyal and rebellious and Yahweh declaring that they were a paradigm of loyalty and faith; Yahweh declaring that he may be offered sacrifices at any altar and Yahweh declaring that there is only one altar where sacrifices are to be offered up; Yahweh declaring that the people saw him at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that they only heard his voice; Yahweh declaring that circumcision is an eternal covenant and keeping the land depends on observing this very commandment and Yahweh declaring the Mosaic laws as the covenant and keeping the land is dependent on keeping these laws; Yahweh declaring that he dwells in the midst of the people and Yahweh declaring that he only resides in heaven; Yahweh commanding Passover to be celebrated by all at Jerusalem and Yahweh commanding it to be celebrated at each person’s home; Yahweh commanding that animals for consumption must be ritually sacrificed and Yahweh commanding that they don’t have to be sacrificed ritually, etc. ***one must conclude that Yahweh is being used by these authors, each with their own contrary views and beliefs as a spokesperson for each of these authors’ agendas.*** These are all the personal, and competing, views, theological beliefs, and religious systems of our biblical authors. And this is only the tip of the iceberg."

@@thevulture5750 If you want to take on the ENTIRE MODEL then you will have to present ENTIRE EVIDENCE! Your one-liner presents none. As a basis, the geological model assumes that geological processes occur at more or less the same rate today as they did in the past, a not unreasonable argument. Much of Jordan is underlain by shallow sea deposits such as limestone formed by the accumulation of the shells of sea creatures - a slow steady rain of shells falling to the sea floor as creatures die. This accords well with observations of this process as it happens now and can be seen actually taking place. To accumulate the thickness of limestone observed would take millions of years and accords with the model of the Tethys Sea having once been over much of what is now the Mediterranean and north Africa. The Tethys sea was a long time ago, a flood within the timeframe of human existence would be much more recent and confined to superficial deposits, such as those that form the present-day soils. The are no widespread flood deposits in the superficial layers in Jordan - end of. The model stands up to scrutiny, and the more you look the better it stands, unlike any biblical 'model'.

I’m a senior at a Christian school in Texas and I have to say, Aron, you saved me more than Jesus ever could. I’m forced into an apologetics class this year and the amount of bullshit spewed by out teacher is laughable. Even our physics and economics textbooks preach to us.

This is so encouraging, not the apologetics class or the bullshit, but the fact there are people like you who are bombarded by it daily and still keep their head above water.

@佐藤謙二 your word salad makes no sense. Ancient humans had a limited understanding of the world. Science increases knowledge by studying reality, it never stops, science will continue to improve, correct itself and increase knowledge as we move forward. And really, i personally don’t give a flying F if your “beliefs” are crushed because we know better today, and we certainly do know more, we clearly improved our way of life and we will even improve more in the future (unless we go back to the dark ages of religion….)
It's only outstanding in the sense of how little it takes... most of this stuff is debunked by a fairly basic understanding of modern science. Which is probably why organizations like this exist, to come up with more convoluted scientific excuses for how all those animals could fit on and survive on an impossibly huge wooden boat.

Aron’s (and collaborators) video only demonstrates how reality, facts about earth and scientific data work against the myth of Noah’s flood. Hear me out please: if ancient peoples believed this it wasn’t because they were stupid. They believed this because that was the only way they were able explain something. They couldn’t have known what we know today (and for the most part it was understood as a tale, as.a myth). Our problem is that religious people of TODAY teach and believe this nonsense. We have a problem with their anti-science position that spreads obvious blatant nonsense. The ancient myths are cool to learn and study, but spreading them as truth today is not only ignorance but also dangerous. If you believe Noah’s flood to be true, please, go ahead. We are showing you that science does not support it.
So, not only did the Egyptians miss the global flood going on over their heads, they also missed how the stars rapidly moved to their new spots in the sky at a given time due to the continental drift, and they didn't note all that new info down on their papyri? And it wasn't just them, there were also the Mayans, the Babylonians and the Chinese. They were pretty darn good astronomers.
Guess they were just too shocked. I mean how often does it happen that there's suddenly so much water that the continents not only move at supersonic speeds but the entire surface of earth vaporises as a result of the released energy, but somehow your entire nation is unharmed? I'd need a year to recover from that as well. The stars being in a new position hardly seems worth worrying about. They're still there at least.

I really appreciate that Aron goes the extra step to point out that a global flood is _precluded_ by much evidence. (I realize he has a whole series on that, and I love that, too. I re-watch it periodically because it has so much useful information in it.) It's just that so much counter-apologetics rests on "there's no evidence that..." instead of going that necessary step to "we know for a fact that didn't happen, and here's the evidence that proves it didn't." It's great to have some people on the front lines doing justice to the facts. Thanks, Aron, again.
"Make thee an ark of gopher wood" (Gen. 6. 14). The ark (Teba, something "hollowed out." See Fuerst’s Heb. Lex., in voce) seems to have indicated a part of a circle, and was often represented by the crescent moon. It doubtless typified the winter portion of the year. The material - gopher wood, an evergreen, emblem of winter - out of which it was made, likewise favors this idea. As the year was made up of three seasons, so the ark' consisted of three stories - "lower, second and third." The one window was "above" = the canopy of heaven. The single door (entrance) was in its side = the fall equinox. The gopher wood, says Gesenius, was "pitchwood” (Lex., p. 201). This makes a nice blazing fire, affording both light and heat - the very thing for a savage people in winter. From its abundant heat, and the season in which it was used, this kind of fire doubtless came to be styled Hell- fire, i.e., winter fire; hell being the old high German for hole - the hole or cave in which the Sun seems to sojourn during the winter months.

I find the modern "flood geology" arguments fascinating because I am just old enough to remember when fundamentalist we're railing against plate tectonics (followed its acceptance in science).
It's interesting to watch them accept just enough of the actual scientific evidence that they can feel open minded and evidence-based, yet so little as to be forced to change their claims massively in the last several decades despite them - purportedly - being based upon the unchanging word of a perfect god.

I cannot remember fundamentalists railing against plate tectonics, but it took a while before it was fully accepted in science. What I do remember how the role of DNA sequencing in constructing evolutionary trees was ridiculed, which before that depended fully on interpretation of fossils. The fossils ( or lack or them) gave the scientists the believe that humans and great apes split early from teach other and when DNA showed that the split between humans and chimps came after that of gorilla's and orangutans the room wasn't large enough. And this was among scientists. Science changes with new evidence giving new insights, but quite a few scientists who have their reputation at stake tend to cling to old insights disliking change as much as fundamentalist dislike change of underwear.
Same with evolution. They deny evolution but then they need to use ultra fast evolution to explain how Noah could fit the millions of species of living animals in his boat. He loaded a pair of each “kind” of animal and they evolved in different species later.

32:25 I was living in a coastal city in Japan where there are archeological remains of settlement from the Jomon era and one of the things they had on display was a cross-section of sediment showing tsunami deposition and maps showing what areas the related tsunamis covered.
Interestingly, there was no tsunami roughly 4,500 years ago that covered all the land shown.

17:20 Oh no... It took me a second to realize it, but the AIG video implies that the continents are sliding away from each other THROUGH the oceanic crust. That's why they talk about rivers leaving a connected trail of mud from one side of the Atlantic to the other - they think it's like a snail leaving behind a mucus trail as it travels over ground. The whole point of plate tectonics is that NEW crust is being formed in the mid-Atlantic as the seafloor spreads, so there's no way in hell there could ever be a mud trail connecting the continents. The misunderstanding is mind-boggling.

Let's talk Koalas! They are native to Australia and I am pretty certain they haven't found any fossils of them in the middle east. They are tree dwelling animals and as such they are not built for walking long distances. It would probably take them around 7 to 8 years to walk from Australia to the middle east provided:
1. The land bridge between Australia and Asia existed then,
2. There was a trail of Eucalyptus gum trees along the route (also native to Australia), their only source of food and
3. There are no predators on route.
Then they would have to walk back! This would be way past their life span, let alone their reproductive span.
In short the Koalas and all the other native animals in Australia would have missed the boat and been wiped out in that global flood.
not to mention.. the koala is known to be not very smart.. it would never have crossed their minds to start walking in the first place:D

To reinforce this, we *do* find global deposits from major volcanic events which show ash deposits over large parts of the Earth, all dating to the same time. So, indeed, it is possible for a global event to leave evidence of this kind behind, as shown by volcanic events. That no such evidence is then found for a global flood tells us all we need to know about Noah's flood.

I'm going to be vulnerable here. I've watched you Aron for years now and as a result have found a treasure trove of folks whom I've come to respect. Besides yourself: Cosmic Skeptic, Genetically Modified Skeptic, Matt Dillahunty, Hemant Mehta, Telltale Atheist and of course, Paulogia. I have immense respect for all of you and have to say that as someone who grew up in church was was so indoctrinated into it all, I've been really having some issues with it all. I'm a theist, I think? I honestly don't even know anymore. It's hard for me to rationalize everything I've been taught when you all do such a damn fine job of shining a light onto EVERYTHING, even stuff I didn't know existed or was never taught or when I would ask, was told to focus on things through the lens of Christ. Hard to understand the story of Lot and his daughters having sex to extract his seed through the lens of Christ, though I digress.. I'd love to say more, so much more - I'm not the typical theist that is typically the subject of all these videos and conversations. Frankly, I'm appalled by what I hear come from the mouths of these folks. I'd love to chat more, but the comment section of RUclips isn't the place. I guess most if not all of you have been in this stage, the questions, the loneliness, searching for folks who can understand and sympathize with you. When you grow up knowing nothing else, it can be hard to unplug. My journey started long ago when I somehow found myself listening to Hitchens, that's where I began. I then found Aaron and well, here I am. Thank you all for what you do, I'm so appreciative of you all.
Hi Zachery. Like you, I grew up in church, too. I remember that stage of my life. The loneliness, depression and anger I felt because I realized that what I believed was a lie. It took me a couple months to tell my wife as she was and still is Christian. She wasn't thrilled when I told her, but she still loves me, even to this day. And I her. She helped me get counseling and now I'm doing better than before. I learned you're never alone so long as you have family and friends who love you.
I have most of those names on my radar too. Except Hemant. I unfollowed him recently because he was obsessed with lying about dawkins and refused to correct himself, doing exactly what he accuses theists of doing all the time.
I've sent this video to the apologist channel Redefine Living. Let's see if they respond. Usually they either ignore me or send abusive messages...or they respond to questions by asking a question instead of giving an answer. My favourite question, to which I never get a response is..."Why did your so called loving god kill my innocent ten week old granddaughter?" This never gets a response from any of the Apologetics channels. But I'll keep asking it.

I have a similar question... why did your 'loving god' make my daughter autistic, with a permanent seizure focus in her brain, limit her mobility, deny her the capacity to speak, read and write, among many other abilities? I never get an answer. They don't want to face reality, even on the most obvious subjects. 😒

You might not believe God exist, but I'm a believer and I'd say your granddaughter continues on in heaven with Jesus who was given up by his father then conquered death so that we may have a future through him.
If you ask for evidence Doctor T then I could see about providing information and things we've discovered that for me at least seems to verify that the Bible is more than just some ancient texts written down by primative people.

It's beyond pathetic how religious authorities keep struggling to make their fairytale relevant. By reinterpreting their story, and clumsily wrapping it in a veneer of "science," they seem to think reality itself will bend to their will.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Aaron. Your years of dedication and numerous videos have taught me how to rationally respond to irrational claims and statements, as well as how to approach claims of the paranormal with a rationally skeptic mind. Do not dismiss an idea or claim outright, but rather examine the evidence in detail and test it until either it fails or holds up. I have also learned how to identify fallacious arguments, leading arguments, and good arguments as well. I have also learned that being wrong is not bad when seeking the truth, and admitting when you are wrong is not a weakness but an opportunity for growth and learning
One of my favourite quotes about religion is that people weren't stupid enough to believe everything in their myths were literally true; it was, to them, in many ways the same kind of thing Marvel and DC and the Lord of the Rings are to us - entertainment, which also teaches morality.
Sad how many conmen and grifters exploit those old stories to ensnare people desperate for meaning and purpose.

I think someone came up with a speculation that, if you built a time machine, then you'd only be able to travel from the point back to when it first is turned on. You are already going forward in time, making going back further impossible, but the Time Machine would create a "marker" from which you can come back to. Each time it comes back, it removes itself from the timeline, creating a new timeline. From this point onwards, Time becomes irrelevant going forward.

To be fair, the Ark Experience is just a boat-shaped facade on one side of a standard concrete and steel building. I remember hearing that they originally intended it as a full-scale model to prove that a literal reading of Genesis would result in a believable structure, but they had to abandon that plan when they found any building following that approach would be unfit for human habitation by Kansas Health and Safety Laws. Small wonder that their compromise only barely clears the bar and succumbs to some less than catastrophic Kansas weather.
Will the Ark Experience people conclude that God is reproving them for their hubris? No, of course they won't.

Sky daddy would have to use his magic for so many things concerning a global flood, creating the amount of water (and later vanish it again into space...), help Noah build a wooden boat impossible even by todays standards without any iron supports, make it seaworthy, teleporting every animal into the ark (shrinking them, too, to fit), put said animals into hibernation so they don't produce any waste or consume food, especially not consuming other animals, warp the whole earth during said flood to make every trace of it vanish, after that, making the flooded earth habitable again, bring back every pair of animals to their former place, take care of the genetic bottleneck this would create, take care of the enormous breeding speed a repopulation would need, treat the descendants of Noah the same way so they can fill the earth with humans again, bring most of them to every spot of every ancient civilization previously killed by the flood, wipe their memory so they don't remember they came from the middle east, but remember all the customs of said civilizations and rebuild their living environment as if no flood ever happened... AND THAT IS ONLY SCRATCHING THE SURFACE concerning the ark itself...

The whole 'but it's not meant to be taken literally' excuse some Christians come up with is amusing, seeing as there's a hardcore large group of Christians who believe Genesis is literal history. Can't have it both ways.
And even if we do take Noah's Flood as just a story, why is the rest of Genesis any more factual? Why wouldn't it all be made up by some ancient fiction writer who had no idea about cosmology, meteorology, biology, geography, etc? He sat down one day and wrote a line about boom, god made the heavens and the Earth. Done! Brilliant writing there.
One then logically starts to wonder what other parts were written as basically god fan fiction, by men trying to assert their dominance over one another by declaring 'god told me I'm special, now hand over this land!'

The ridiculousness of a mud trail to the rifts, would ALSO have to ignore the fact that erosional and transportation/depositional processes occur on the coasts of oceans. Hydraulic action, abrasion and corrasion, attrition and solution, constantly change the coastal deposits, sometimes even making them "initially" unrecognizable.
