    I start making a list of what's going with me several days before I leave. Ei: Kayak seat, kayak (yes, even the obvious), tweezers, 7 MREs, water filter, etc. Then, when it goes in a dry bag, I mark it off. Or if not in a dry bag, it gets marked off when it actually makes it IN THE TRUCK. I'll grab ONE THING AT A TIME, then mark it off before I grab the next thing. Not having enough food or having to use a dry bag as a makeshift kayak seat SUUUUUCKS. Forgetting something vital is too easy for me to do, so I am quite exacting when packing and transporting.

    Funny you out this out today! I just re-watched every video you’ve put out today and then found this. Your videos are far and away the best out there. QUALITY! Kinda makes it hard to watch anyone else’s. Your tips are always spot on. Your front leash (dog leash) actually saved my ass. I was on a solo overnight on the Arkansas and got in to some braided sections. I was using a leash (Mine is long and runs back into the cockpit of my Old Town Loon 120). I got into some fast moving, skinny water and grounded. I got up and stepped out of the boat and my leg immediately sunk up above the knee in what I would describe as “quick mud”. Of course I lost my balance and fell-sinking both legs up to mid thigh in sucking mud. I had grabbed the leash as I stepped out-which kept the boat from floating out of my reach and stranding me. Not able to move or maneuver out, I pulled the boat back to me, leaned on to it, and used it as a fulcrum to pull myself out of that mud. This river is not traveled. I was in the middle of nowhere. My phone was in the dry compartment (stupidly). Long story short-your leash tip saved my ass. I would have played HELL getting out that day. So your tips may help more than you’ll ever know.
    Thanks for all you do. You keep me stoked man!
    Stay safe and all the best to you, Mr. Brown.

    Great content GW! on our Devils trip last month our shuttle driver shared that the best chance at good water on the Devils is the fall. Shoot for a October/November time frame and you'll hopefully get a better float than we did. Not that I'm complaining. It was still incredible. I'm already planning to do the second half, San Pedro Point to Pafford's, in the fall.

    Iowa isn't much more friendly even than Oklahoma. Most rivers in Iowa are considered private property. You are fine ON the water but, even the river bed under the water is considered private land unless your in an area that is actually owned by the state or county. To get on a river that has public land you have to find one large enough to be able to be navigated by commercial traffic. Then you have to stay below the tree line to not be trespassing.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  2 года назад
