Why, why, why did they need to invent sixes? There is all ready a 6v6 version of lacrosse without offsides and short sticks only and a 30 second shot clock. It's called box lacrosse. There is a box lacrosse world championship every 4 years with over 30 countries participating. Why not just play box at the Olympics. This makes NO sense!

because Box is a rougher sport that is generally not appealing, nor very welcoming to absolute newcomers. you need a special playing field/venue, extra gear which is extra money, and not to mention the fact that the transition from field to box is entirely different on an international level. If you play field, 6s is easy to learn, easy to transition into for 7 of the 10 players on a standard field team, and does not pose the extra worry of getting cross checked every 3 seconds (which once again, is not appealing to newcoming people).
6s Lacrosse simply is the way to grow the sport internationally, at a slightly cheaper price tag which is already considered ridiculous by international standards.
Would you rather have all 91 nations currently participating in the World federation, or the 30 national box teams who play once every 4 years for our first comeback as an Olympic event.

      1. Extra gear? What? The only player with "Extra" gear is the goalie. Runners wear triceps pads instead of arm pads and rib pads instead of shoulder pads.
      2. You don't need a specialized venue for box lacrosse. It is played on the surface of a standard ice rink - like is used for hockey, figure skating and short track speed skating in the winter Olympics. Yeah, no ice rinks around LA that could be used for box. In fact the 6's field is the "specialized" venue. You could play it in a football or soccer venue, but since the field is so much smaller, the stands are nowhere near the action. Terrible for spectators unless you make a specialized venue just for 6's.
      3. 91 nations? There will NOT be 91 nations in the Olympics. Only 16 qualify for Soccer, 12 Volleyball, Water Polo and Ice Hockey (winter), 8 for basketball and 6 for handball. NONE of the Nations that will qualify for Olympics are not all ready playing box lacrosse.
      Grow up!
The real reason they are inventing a whole new game instead of just using box lacrosse is because the highest the USA has ever finished in the indoor lacrosse world championships is 3rd. That's why. USA can't win at box so we'll invent a whole new game and call it lacrosse because we think we can win at that.

@@lancegoulet8100 would you invest in pads you wouldn’t wear on the field, or Vice versa for a slightly different style of the sport when you already live in a country with completely different economies?

Any country that is going to qualify for the 6's Olympic competition all ready plays box. Box players have box pads.

From my perspective, a guy who's son plays middle school lacrosse, diehard lacrosse people claim they want to grow the game and bla bla bla...the problem is there's no market for field lacrosse as it's played now, on a national level for "casual" viewers. Along comes sixes which, to your point is much like box but played in a condensed field, is shorter game length and intended to be higher scoring and fast paced in an effort to potentially grow the game...yet a bunch of die hard lacrosse people are against it saying it's not lacrosse and hate it. Either live with the fact that (field) lacrosse will never be a mainstream game or else evolve the game to something that may be more appealing to masses, but you can't have both.
