After spending a few days in Jomtien Pattaya we were not impressed so in this video we try to break down why Jomtien isn't our vibe and why you also might not like it, I understand why people would find it attractive to retire but we just didn't catch the vibe here and found it to be a little dirty and not much to do

We’re regarding the trash, we have seen trashed a ton in in the Philippines sadly so big Bay was horrible, here in Jomteim Beach. You had a bad day in general. The beaches are actually very clean. My fiancé and I walked the beach 3 to 5 times a week, and honestly, we see very little trash if any, and it’s a big deal for her so Thailand has a lot more trash cans available and in general people don’t seem to be as messy as many other countries and we won’t mention names lol
Hi, Kris from Canada here. Bang saray is more laid back and the beach is way better. Small fishing village with everything you need.lots of restaurants. Roads are recently paved and lots of new infrastructure upgrades. That being said in the next 5 years, im sure it will be overpopulated. When I'm visiting I have been staying at del mare condo. Very nice with great amenities. Cheers, and safe travels.
Your really putting me off a Jomtiem it was always lovely when I use to visit Tom
1:40 the Philippines beach is trashy too though
A lot more trashy!
Hua hin could be a good spot. Tip for the dad bod. I'm almost 43 been fasting for 3 years it works great. 6pm to 12pm 18 hours.
Hi Tom and Lay. I totally agree with you about the dirty beach and rude foreigners. DaNang beach definitely is much better, but Vietnam doesn't have a retirement visa. For me, Jomtien is very convenient for everything. I can walk to everything I need and take a grab to malls or other attractions. The variety of condos, restaurants, and night markets is awesome.
This is only a little section of Jomtien beach. I’ve seen posts that the water on danang beaches is dirty as hell and full of poop/waste due to several sewage pipes pouring out there.
That’s where we have our condominium my Filipino girlfriend, and I sands condominiums. We love it there. 100 meters to beach and fantastic views from our condo of the ocean and islands.
General Jomteim beach is a great place to retire, has ladies of the night, bars, sports bars, worldwide type food, restaurants, including Michelin star chefs legalization of marijuana, massages even the ones without happy endings are very good and reasonably priced, Vietnam, we loved, great country, but for retiring for someone retiring it’s gonna be not a lot of things that I want to do and she wants to do
I won’t compare to the Philippines. It’s not even a fair comparison you correct there is not a whole lot of things to do but in a way you’re wrong the sanctuary of truth, big Buddha, they have a marine life, have this dinosaur botanical garden have a fair amount to do however it would get old when you travel a lot. Sure we want stuff to go see when we were in Vietnam. My girlfriend and I we walked 10+ miles a day going to the various sites and enjoying them
I just believe you’re giving a bad review of the beach with only a couple of days being there
Anyway, enjoy your trip. Thailand is heads and above the Philippines for retirement and living just heads and above is not even close I know I’ve seen all the comparisons. It’s not even close in reality. RUclipsrs don’t always tell the most accurate truth.
Looks cool for a short stay but I do like to see and sample the local life! That’s why I surprised my girlfriend buying a house in Tanza, Cavite where her family lives and when I come we use it as a base and see the rest of the Philippines! You both give an honest assessment and don’t window dress it up which is great! 👍
You should visit Koh Chang Thailand its the 3rd biggest island in thailand and great clear beaches🏝🏝🏝
I agree. And if you are in Jomtien, go visit Koh Larn. Take a speed boat to the other side of the island. Great beach and clear water. Haad Tien beach ❤
Enjoy the coffee's I just bought you! You two are such a great escape to watch.
Thailands island beaches were world class 25 years ago. Sairee beach Koh Tao was heaven.. just a few bars and candles floating in the water.. hippies ecstasy, fishermans pants and fire pois by night , diving for $10 in the daytime and you would eat a massive meal for 20c.. .. . Koh Tao had deserted amazing beaches too. But Haad Rin still had the parties. The bartender would sell you beer and E. cops were paid off 🥳 and Pai was also a hippie commune.. $1 a night to live in a fancy treehouse, stoned yoga sessions. a bit of opium for giggles.. ... no mass toursist no airport no oldies.
making improvements , that's a good thing.
They did not wait until high season. Two months ago they were working n the area in North Jomtien, working their way south. Pattayya/Jomtien needs to solve their flooding problem. Glad they are working on it.
We were in Jomtien last march and April. It was amazing
I dont feel that i was direspected by other guys. Anyway , i have been an expat for 14 years in this country.Im from the Philippines. Used to the culture already. Thai people in that area are amazing. You just come on that season where thier fixing the whole baywalk. For sure, it will look amazing.
What Thai people it’s mainly foreigners there
@Tom-Lay You guys came at the wrong month. Take a bike and walk from the end to end. Go around their big markets and small food stools. There area you will see more Thais.
Philippines beachs are dirty to
With all due respect, I did notice that I've never heard him disrespect the Philippines in how dirty certain areas are even worse than where he was in this video.
@@Coffewithsteve i get the hate since you love Thailand too much so yeah...
@@Tim_281You can 't compare Thailand with The Philippines at all it's like comparing a 5 star hotel with a hostel.
I'm for Chiang Mai and Hua Hin, both chilled and friendly ,next on my list to visit is Da Nang
You will love it
Good Afternoon Tom & Lay west coast USA 🙃💙🇺🇸❤️🩵☘️🛼🦋⭐️💜🧡🤍🌞 time 12: 48 afternoon ☘️
Tom and Lay, even though Pattaya is not impressive tourist town but both of you show and tell us the reality of the the place, well done, just be safe and eat well.
Actually they didn't show the reality, they showed a micro section of a huge beach and highlighted that.
Look further and it will become impressive.
I am sure somebody clears up the beaches in the mornings at some point, it is NOT covered in trash just a few bits that happens everywhere, most people use bins for their rubbish and Thailand has bins!. The Philippines is covered in trash in places, so not a comparison. Roads get remade everywhere. Are you having a bad day Tom?
Maybe 😅
Just sounds like a whinging Pom! Phillipines is crap! He cannot understand “roadworks in peak season”…..mate…this is an 18 month project…it will be amazing when complete! 😎🌈
Thank you 💙🇺🇸☘️❤️🩵🌞🤍🧡💜⭐️
Jomteim night market is a lot of fun, there’s one guy in there that has been there forever at least the last seven years I’ve been coming that does pad Thai and actually he’s kind of well-known. He does an excellent job on pad thai.
Yum. The night market there is actually pretty good reasonable prices of food is pretty tasty and it seems to me that most of the stalls have been there for a long, long time.
Tom, the road construction has been going on for months and months. Jomtien is known as being a haven for retired old folks like me. But, now there's nowhere else for developers to build condos along the beach. My Filipina wife and I enjoyed the 2-months we spent there but we wouldn't live there either...lol!
Pattaya is basically a party town. Not the place to choose to live, Thailand has far better options.
ReELee??!!😢
@@dumbmutts.7758 pattaya is for pussylovers
Jomtien, Bang Saray, Rayong, are excellent places to retire.
I've been to a few beaches in Philippines and lived near one and the tide piled up the plastic and rubber trash in heaps. Also the water was muddy looking but I think it was worse than mud
True. Many beaches in the Philippines are much worse then Jomtien.
dirty!
Have a nice day in Jomtien beach 😊
There is a lot of development going on so it's just going to get busier, especially with the construction along the seafront.
I wonder how much of the garbage on the beach was dropped there and how much is floatsam that got washed up onshore.
I have been teaching how to swim for years. Lay first thing is you need to learn to trust in your self. Learn not to slap the water. Do not swim with your fingers open. and like Tom said breath. Cup your hands like you are getting water to drink from your hand and keep them cupped with fingers tight. Take long strokes and push off to each side. The easiest way to teach you to float is simple. Take a deep breath and hold it then let your self go and you will sink but relax and you will float back up on your own. When I say relax I mean just relax like you are sitting in a lazy boy chair go limp. When you get use to that you will then soon learn to float on top and breath anytime you like with out sinking. That hardest part to learning how to swim for you is your hands and legs. Now if I was with you and teaching you how to swim I would have to teach you the hard way. Every time you did something wrong you would get a spanking. Learn to keep your fingers tight together and cup your hands. Stop swimming like you are giving the water a high five. Next is the legs. You are not a frog. Do not spread your legs apart like you are inviting Tom to sneak up behind you. Move your legs up and down as you bring your legs up to the back side move your feet in that motion and when you go back down to the front you move your feet back like you are walking flat on the side walk. If you are not sure of yourself Ask tom to spot you. Tom will put one hand under your butt and the other hand on your upper back but he does not hold you up all the way he just makes sure you don't go under it is up to you to try your best.
I have been on a swim team and the High dive team was a life guard while I was in College . I also taught to many people how to swim both guys and girls. even little kids and adults.
Great advice. Think about a balloon. The more air that is in the balloon the easier it will float on the water. The very first thing you need to learn is to float. If you fill your lungs up with as much air as you can hold, then lay back slowly you will find that you can keep your nose and your mouth above the water and float laying on your back. Remember the only thing that needs to be above the water is your nose and mouth. The rest of your body can sink under the water and you will still survive. Once you gain this confidence you will realize that you can float. When you need to breathe slowly let air out of your lungs until you start to sink, then pull more air back into your lungs to float again. Practice this over and over until you get very good at it. That will help you to be confident in the water knowing that you can float on your own.
@@RG-rc8yk I was teaching a swim class and when they all met me at the pool I was sleeping laying in the water. They could not believe I was floating and not moving. I was the same size as Lay is now. Back in College the students use to come just to watch me dive and swim . They could not believe I could swim under water from one end to the other with out coming up for air. Back when I was in College they had a rule no student can use the pool unless they pass the swim test. When the other students heard how I past with no problem that was when they asked me to teach them. Then the Head of the College and the R.A.'s Asked me if I would be willing to teach classes. I agreed but I was only able to do it 3 times a week. I had school work that had to be done as well. I did sneak in a few private lessons on the weekend.
Good to know Pattaya fr. both of u. 🙏
Hua Hin and Da Nang are better choices than Jomtien more relaxed and friendly vibe
I like going to both 😊
I’ve seen posts that the water on danang beaches is dirty as hell and full of poop/waste due to several sewage pipes pouring out there
I think if I was going to live in Thailand I might go to Chiang Mai. Seems like about the right balance for me. I am not a beach person.
yup, a very nice place except for the months when the air quality is extremely bad.
I love your channel, but honestly - when a white tourist says they can't stand all the tourists, folks are probably thinking the same thing about you.
No I meant I don’t like the type of tourists it’s attracting
have you been to khaosok national park tom?
Not yet
i would recommend this place to you guys, its such a stunning visual
For the past couple of years there has been contant construction on the beachfront of Jomtien.. 1st the beach expansion which was mostly at the Na Jomtien end of the beach, then the one way system when they started the drainage works and street paving/lighting upgrades... That alongside the vast amount more Russians that came to live here has changed the feel of the place, however there are a lot of nice places nearby - if you want beaches Koh Larn is not far, or a train south to Nam Sai beach... I did a lot of searching online during covid to choose a location to buy in Thailand.. why Jomtien... Simply a mix of cost of living, ease of transport, access to great mixed food and cultures, the beautiful sunsets... Its not perfect (some tourists and the reputation of neighboring Pattaya) but whilst there are places with better beaches, etc. nowhere has the mix of variety and reasonably priced options for food/transport, etc. from what I could tell....
Better beaches all along the coast are in Phuket. I agree Pattaya is not the right vibe for non-retirees. It's great that you are checking out the cities, though.
Tom and Lay vlogs are very good. Im glad your with Lay she always looks cool and natural. Like a breath of fresh air after watching wingers talking about 💰 and material stuff. To be honest, shes a gift to Filipino women, some women make them look like they just 💰grabbers that want want want all the time. Not a good look. Lay gives people a good impression of p ladies, good vlog Lay!
ya not like the other one always like begging asking for$$.And her sub.Pinay s sub .esp.the old lady always compare ,never ever sub.to her vlog.
Appreciate the review. As I prefer sundowners, I want to be on the sunset side, vs like Hua Hin. Any other cities facing west you know of? Phuket I hear is overrun by unpleasant tourists as well.
I have to say, Lay was absolutely spot on when refering to all the different islands in the Pilippinnes, so beautuful and spoilt for choice. Pity about the trash. But then again, one person's trash is another persons cash, in terms of income. Be grateful for what you have in life, others don't get to do nor experiense what you do. Don't always complain, Life isn't fair, but it's still good!
You're comparing one small section of Jomtien and making a decision based on that alone. Jomtien beach stretches for miles. You only need to travel a short distance (walk!) either direction from where you are and you will see something totally different. As for rubbish (trash) on the beach again you picked a tiny area in a huge beach to find some. I would say its 99% clean and I have seen so much more cr@p on beaches in the Philippines (and surounding areas) compared to Jomtien. I was in Jomtien 2 weeks ago so speak from recent experience. Pattaya and Jomtien isn't for evenyone and I actually grew tired of it on my latest visit, but I used to live there and ran 2 businesses there (not bars!!!) and its a great place to be based as an expat.
Pattaya and Jomtien used to be a lovely provincial towns, when I first went there more than 35 years ago. Since then, it’s turned into a sh*thole of a place. I don’t go there unless I absolutely have to. Even then, I get out again ASAP.
Very true seems to get worse every time I go back 😅
Maybe Hua hin or Cha am might suit you ?
Yes 👍
Pattaya and the area around it is just an adult playground. The beach's are not that bad when everything is in full tourist mode, they have people constantly cleaning them. The big problem is the toxic water. You notice not many people are in the water. They know not to go in. Check where the sewage from Pattaya goes! This whole area is not true or real Thailand. If you're looking for a real Thai experience stay away from this area all together. Everyone know why Pattaya and Phuket exists.
All sorts of tourists you mean, couples, families etc.
@@leekattestaart7499 Small percentage of the visitors. Twist it how you want, everyone know what's its all about.
Why not living in chiangmai/chiangrai in the winter time or huahin if u like beach town😏both is a very good for your budget
So you have never seen garbage on the beach in the philippines? seriously? Buy I would say the water is polluted there anyway as it is in many areas in the philippines.
They is garbageman the Philippines but the beaches and tourist areas are kept clean. Most of the garbage in the sea does not come from the locals littering. The sea distributes garage that are from other countries as well.
Ofcourse they did.
That’s one of the reasons
why they want to leave.
@@NicolasLampkin-qr4rxOther countries?? LOL. There are no neighboring countries like Thailand.
I would suggest you buy for your swimming one of those polystyrene squareish floating boards you put out in front of you while swimming to help you, sorry i cannot remember what they are called, but they are well known swimming aids for beginners .
Kickboards and floation belts help beginners.
were here in pattaya now tom lay😊
Nice 👍
For a few months per year Chiangmai"s gotta be best in the world just not February--May
Go to koh Chang you will love it
Everyone knows Pattaya is the adultery capital of Thailand (maybe even the world)
I would do El Nido for 4 months, Hua Hin 4 months or Ko Samui/Ko Pha-ngan and then Danang for the remaining 4. This way it’s 3 countries split into 1 year.
Good solid choices
El nido isnt nice at all
I’ve seen posts that the water on danang beaches is dirty as hell and full of poop/waste due to several sewage pipes pouring out there.
My suggestion is to check out Phu Quoc, Vietnam. I have been here one month. You do not need a Visa to come here for 30 days, although I got a 90 day Visa because I want to also go to the mainland, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (visa required for Americans).
Danang is beautiful, but you can’t go in the water and there are few western dining options. I can’t eat Vietnamese 100% of the time.
Bangkok to Phu Quoc is an hour and ten minutes.
Far too many places with beautiful beaches within Thailand, no need to go to Vietnam for that.
A bunch of Russians descended on Pattaya when the Ukrainian- Russia conflict broke out in 2022 and there have been issues with so many people coming into an area like that! My Thai coworker just came back from that area for a family visit since he was raised in the area.
LOL they were there long before the conflict but that did add to it.
Now talk about the Indian invasion 😂 Russians are mostly quiet families, Indians come in by the thousands only men looking for hookers because they are virgin bastards
Beautiful View 🩵☘️🇺🇸⭐️💜🛼🦋🌞
RUSSIA. I said it for you.
😂😂 huh, you must be mistaken with India

So good
Try Rayong 😊
The food looks delicious 🤤 the pool looks too dangerous and high up in the sky. The beach looks unkept hopefully they will must much improvements. All I know about Thailand is alot of Foreigners take vacations there for fun and parties. Since it’s affordable and beautiful people.
Pattaya is a dump, horrible red light districy too, not your vibe
This is Jomtien not Pattaya!
Not a place we would stay in. Construction would be a pain n constant noise. 😢😢
Hahaha Tom stop blaming Lay for your dad bod,coz that's all on you bro lol.😅😅
Remember wen you both did them McDonald's vlogs you scuffed all the fries 🍟 and burgers haha..😅
Time for some workout sessions.
Yep 😅
Check out Hua hin. If you want to get rid of that dad bod base yourself somewhere for a few months so you can get in a routine. Train every day. Reduce the rice intake 😃
well if you dont like it.?
Hou hin is lovely Tom
Totally agree mate I would not want to live there or Pattaya it’s okay for two or three days though
Why is there nobody in the ocean
❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍
Why any place in Thailand needs a sauna is beyond me, just walk outside
I know that you prefer Thailand to the Philippines, but I have lived in Chang Mi and Koh Wai Island, Thailand, Can Tho Vietnam and many places in the Philippines. I don't like Manila at all. Too crowded and too much traffic. I now live in Siquijor Island in the Philippines and I plan to stay here indefinitely. Gorgeous beaches, such as Paliton Beach. No trash at all. Also, Siquijor is very laid back with very few tourist. Easy going lifestyle.
The problem with the Philippines is that it's full of Filipinos
Yeah i love siquijor and good scuba diving as well.
Yeah the Russians 😂😂😂 they have money but they are rude!!! So yes wise decision to avoid an area you dont vibe with 😊😊
As an American, you must be saying the American tourists. Enjoy your videos.
more like russians
Nope 😅
@@mrszee951how about the Indians? Walking st is an open sewer of Mumbai now
He is probably referring to Russians. There have been over 800,000 arrive in Thailand to avoid the war in Ukraine. Between Jan and July alone this year 350k arrived in Phuket alone.
@@TheSeattleGamer atleast they are Europeans and come with money to spend 😂 these pajeeets come on their last dollar and stand around trying to convince a working girl to take 5 of them on for price of one
Ive noticed asian countries dont seem to provide serviettes at the table and a lot use fingers to eat. I would deffo need them, 😅
I can understand lays dislike as her as Asian background, she would get mistaken for a Thai , the beach is a disappointment to see rubbish, so I guess you aren’t there for the night life it’s just another place visit once with no plan to return
I am an older retirement age person. But seeing the poor quality of the ocean front turns me off when I see lots of trash. Plus, I don't care to be propositioned by hookers on a regular basis. So, I don't think I would find the place for me as well.
Yet you won’t like it then

Yogyakarta, Indonesia is your vibe. Welcoming/friendly locals. History and culture. Nice coffee shops. And there’s other tourists around so you don’t feel weird. Even cheaper than Pattaya. Dabble and Travel just put out a vlog from there.
Enough places in Thailand like that. No need to go.
