If you are going through a hard phase, keep on going, cuz we must focus to see the light, these challenges are here to teach us important lessons. And as a popular saying goes, life throws hardest challenges at toughest and strongest people. Love yourself and embrace yourself. Stand in front of the mirror, and give yourself a high five with the most beautiful smile.

As it is impossible that a talentless man of misfortune like me grow fond of himself, this practice therefore comes to be a practice of futility. I cannot allow myself nor anyone else on the outwards to sow in me the seed of self-love, since it would eventually wither away without the essential preconditions in place-like a flower that is never watered. A flower that receives not even a single drop of water will wither as time moves forwards into the future, leading the plant to this unfortunate eventuality, and so will my self-love under such conditions which are too dire for it to survive and flourish evermore. There is no purpose whatsoever in cultivating and practicing self-love when you know that soon it is to deaden.

do keep in mind that some of these may be coping mechanisms. as long as it's a corallation studdies it can also mean that depressed people are more likely to binge watch or not clean their room rather than these things causing the mental illness or maybe a common factor causing both mental illness and bad habbits etc.. so yes healthy habits are very important but mostly don't stress yourself if you can't improve all of these things at once.

Sorry for the text block! TL;DR: write down thoughts/decisions you are struggling with, make yourself timelines for decisions, and give yourself compassion = it's okay to make a wrong decision on small stuff especially when it doesn't affect anyone else, background noise can be a good friend to the overthinker/ruminator. When you are really stuck in a spiral, try and get outside or do some physical exercise.
I tend to overthink and overanalyze as well, these are some things I found helpful. If I find myself overthinking during my free time I will listen to something in the background like a song I like or a podcast so I can pay attention to that rather than overthinking. I will also go for a walk or do some form of exercise, that always puts me in a good mood and the physicality of it gives me a sense of empowerment. It also slows down my brain and looking at nature gives me the sense that my problems are small and manageable. On big decisions, I will sit down and make a list (I really like lists) of pros and cons and be brutally honest about both and my own capabilities. I also will either give myself a deadline if it needs to made now (I tell someone I will give them my decision before lunch etc.), or I'll remind myself that I have time and put it on the back burner (You don't have to decide on _________ for another two years! chill). I also find that putting all my thoughts or considerations on paper helps get it out of my head and I don't have to try and work hard to remember my thoughts. For more day-to-day decisions, I try and give myself compassion (it's okay if you don't like the food you ate at the restaurant, try something new! or, it's okay to just eat the same thing there every time, you know you like it). I also find that I overthink more when I am tired, so I try and make my important decisions earlier in the day when I have more energy!

For some of these statistics I'm thinking ... "But couldn't the depression or anxiety be the cause of this, rather this being the cause of depression or anxiety?" Like I'm sure not drinking enough water could go either way, but typically I feel like there's quite a few people who don't clean their room because they're already in a bad state of mind, and some people who don't clean their room that have fine mental health (tho personally i at least like to keep my room semi-clean, enough to know where everything is and have a decently fast cleanup but not cleaning/sorting/etc everyday)

One good way to getting out of your comfort zone and to stop overthinking is to go somewhere alone that you would usually go with someone else, i.e a restaurant or movie theater. And just being there and feeling somewhat awkward will help take your mind off certain things, and even if you do get bad anxiety in public, doing this will help you build confidence.

I love this video, the only problem I have with it is that it manipulates the results of the studies a lot. Sure there might be a correlation between a cluttered room and bad mental health but it is extremely unlikely that a bit of mess is what's making you depressed. It's far more likely that your room is messy because of your bad mental health, or that another factor causes both things, eg. an overwhelming amount of work

    • @roybs848
      @roybs848 Год назад +7

It was not said that a messy room causes depression, but that a tidy room can ease the effects of it.
By keeping the room cluttered you maintain the level of depression and that’s why it hurts you, so if you do something about it, you might feel a bit better

So I do agree with what you say.
Some of these like for example of not cleaning your room could be a result of not having the motivation or drive with low dopamine or serotonin levels, or skipping meals because of anxiety and stress.
It can be inverted like in the case where you didn't clean your room and you feel depressed and subconsciously you feel like you are losing control of your life but rather by cleaning your room you maintain a safe sense of control in your surroundings.
Never the less you are right and so is @Psych2Go but the importance of this video is if you do realise you have any of these talk with a friend or family member Mayne a mentor and potentially seek some help because these could potentially get worse down the line.
Remember love is always important in showing it to yourself and others.

I found this channel quite a long time ago but have always avoided it, fearing it confirms depression or anxiety that I may have and in a way gives me an "excuse" of some sort (like saying that I'm depressed because a video said so, therefore I have an excuse why I'm trash at doing anything lol), but I missed the point entirely. Shouldn't have focused on the implications or symptoms (which birthed the confirmation bias issue) but rather I should've put the tips into practice, since all of them actually make perfect sense, both physically and (hopefully) mentally.
This video, and one other about toxic traits in every mbti profile, actually gave me hope/solution in trying to change myself, not the default throwaway answer you'll get from basically anyone. So I'm very grateful for this, psych2go team 🙇‍♂️.

I enjoyed the video. Beautiful artwork and lot of good points were made. However correlation doesn't equal causation. It is possible and even likely that some of the things that make our mental health worse are themselves caused by poor mental health. Yes a cluttered room can make you feel worse but at the same time poor mental health or stress in general can make it hard to tidy up or stay organized. The same is true for eating regularly and somewhat healthy and fresh foods. So if you're struggling (I am too): It's okay. Try to make positive changes but don't beat yourself up if it's hard.

It's not easy, to having to skip meals or only eating junk food because it's all you can afford. That 2 dollar cheeseburger from McDonald's might be my only meal of the day because I found enough money on the street and loose change. And as for my cluttered room- I've been trying a year and a half to get it cleaned up when I lost my home of eleven years in a violent break-up. As much healing as your videos have done, and do for others, this one feels... Unintentionally hurtful in specific cases. And I know that what was meant by it, it just hits wrong today for me...
Sometimes we are trapped in a cycle of poor mental health by our communities and environment, and that's not something we can help with a can-do attitude. It just takes time and the help of others even. I know my circumstances aren't what this video was the target of, but this one time, I can't give a like... I just couldn't agree with it for myself. I still will look forward to future postings, so may you not feel bad if you see this comment... Just my two cents.

I agree with the food issue ,since I rarely have time to eat at meal times and the money issue too , so maybe you are right this stiff advices aren't easy to stick to always due to environmental reasons ,but they are beneficial nonetheless so maybe try to adjust them to your life ,for example with the little money you spend on a burger try buying a raw egg and some tomatoes or something, boil and cut and you got your self a little homemade sandwich, no time okay ,then before heading to work / study pack your self a cheese sandwich, salad ,just cut some random veggies and put them on a container to use them whenever, I am sure there are videos out there about this so try it out , in general eating healthy shouldn't be more expensive then junk food ,I think we just find it easier and more delicious and that's why it's addictive, as for eating on time ,lunch could be a problem for me ,but I am sure I can find a good 15 mint for breakfast and dinner if I just woke up earlier or dropped my phone ,what about you ? , as for the room I didn't quite understand your issue with it but you do have a home right now ,right , I hope you do , if yes then the best way to keep it organized is to make it a habit to tidy up after whatever activity you are doing, I mean whatever, just the simple old rule of picking up your dishes after you done eating and preferably wash them right away ,cause it's take two mints most if done right away specifically if you live alone but if you leave them for a day then it's gonna take more time and thus be harder to do , some with clothes, beds ,shoes whatever, make organizing after your self a habit ,it will make your life much easier, all in all , if I got you right I think them assuming that everyone should be have food on their table ,a roof over their head and other privileges that we take for granted is what offended you but honestly I think it's a generale reasonable assumption otherwise we will start seeing potential charity cases in everyone , and more importantly this is just text book instructions that should be implied to one's life however you can and see fit ,I hope I didn't sound to offending my self since I tend to preach much specially when I suck at life too, and sorry if I did , good luck

A big thing to keep in mind is to keep yourself in check even when you feel like absolute hell. You haven't taken care of your mental health cause you didn't feel like it? Still do it. Even if it doesn't seem like much, stuff like cleaning your room, taking a bath, brushing your teeth, eating something small, drinking some water, ect will help you feel so much better. It seems overwhelming, but, once you do all of that, you're gonna feel 10x better than how you would be if you didn't do it and you'll thank yourself that you pulled yourself through.
A thing I go by is this: The reason why I feel better is because I'm doing stuff that improves my health, and if I wanna continue feeling this good, I gotta keep doing the things that make me feel better in the first place.
It's a cycle and it's something you gotta keep going.

I don’t plan on getting better because I don’t know how to. Therapy is a bit too expensive for me while I’m in high school without a scholarship, and schoolwork takes up all my time because I get distracted easily, probably from lack of sleep. Somniphobia is hard; you suffer every night overthinking about what could possibly happen to you or close family and friends while your asleep. It’s not that I choose to not sleep, I just have a fricking mirror closet and I have the phobia of mirrors. I feel like someone is watching me from the other side of the mirror, don’t judge me I can’t help it. This leads in to my fear of being watched, whether it’s by people, recordings, and I literally fear cameras that are being pointed at me. Not my fault I had such gory nightmares when I was 6, and it’s not my fault that my parents neglected me to take care of my younger sibling. I just feel like it’s my fault for existing and being in someone’s presence due to being emotionally neglected almost all my life. I’ve been at my breaking point, and I don’t know what to do. The only thing I can think of is self harm…
I appreciate any of you who read this entire thing, and sorry about that I just needed to vent a bit since I don’t have a therapist.

Sometimes the extent of a trauma/ ptsd comes once you (finally) are able to get out of that bad situation. I'm currently dealing with that now: even though I'm away from the person that caused this I still feel paranoid and scared even if that person isn't there. I know it will just take time for my mind to understand I am no longer in that situation, and I'm seeing a therapist about this next week. I can tell I don't drink that well and eat more junk, and my body hurts due to tension and bad posture. But I will get through this because now I'm finally in a situation where I have the option of healing ❤️ Small advice to anyone who needs it: you will never be able to heal properly in a toxic place/ situation. So do whatever you can to get out of that situation because you deserve to heal in a healthy and loving place ❤️

Sorry to be a little nitpicky here, but for the 2nd part, other variables could be in play, such as the person having depression. They would, in general, have less motivation to clean their room, making the messy room most likely not the cause for their mental health issues. The same goes for fatigue. However, it is true that a cleaner room would lead to a better feeling of control and routine, improving mental health.

  • @Wolfietjuh

Just wanted to point out, correlation =/= causation. If a study shows a correlation between binge watching and depression for instance, it doesn't necessarily imply binge watching is a causational factor toward depression. In fact, it can also be the other way around. Myself for instance, I have been diagnosed with depression, and am also an avid binge-watcher (It's 3am and I swore I'd go to sleep 2 hours ago... whoops). But to me, binge-watching is more of a coping mechanism to deal with my poor mental health. To keep occupied and distracted from painful thoughts. If I try to go to sleep while I'm not really tired, unpleasant thoughts run rampant, and cause such intense panic and distress that I can no longer sleep at all, so I end up forcefully keeping occupied until I pretty much pass out of exhaustion. Naturally, making sure you adopt healthy behaviours is always the good way to go, and stuff such as this is definitely unhealthy. However I wanted to point out that these behaviours do not necessarily precede depression, but may be caused by depression instead.

    • @Winter-nr6gb
      @Winter-nr6gb Год назад

I completely agree with you. To me all the points sound more just like correlation.
For sleeping I'd have some advice, as I also suffer from an overactive mind filled with painful thoughts, so that I have to distract myself constantly. But I know it's unsolicited advice, so feel free to ignore it. But if you want I'd recommend trying asmr to fall asleep. As long as it's chaotic it keeps my mind occupied but it's still calmer than series. E.g. Luna Bloom ASMR got quite a good balance of chaotic and calming for me. Idk, if it works for you, but I thought I'd share, in case it does./gen

This is terrifying how I've been doing this to my mental health! This helped me a lot, I'll be drinking more water cause at school my water bottle is always full, and never has been consumed the WHOLE entire day. Thank you Psych2Go! 🎉

I don't drink caffeine since my mother always tells me it'll affect my brain and make me fail academically. I skip meals, I overthink, and I sometimes don't drink water at all.
I don't like assuming that I'm depressed or the mentally bad things that affect most teenagers since I'm still a kid(I was told to not think like I have depression or such because I'm still a kid or I'm too young), but I do know that I have anxiety and paranoia.
I don't like thinking that I'm depressed, sleep deprived, stressed, or suicidal cause some people might think that I'm just assuming things and that I shouldn't be taking these mental illnesses as a "joke"
I've been called an assumer many times before and it makes me not like myself. Sometimes I just accept the fact that people badmouth because of a 'good reason', being compared is something daily that happens in our household and the things that are 'normal' here are apparently not normal to any other household and that makes me feel self-conscious

I basically do all of this... it's shocking. I try to stop but I just can't. Well, thank you for making this video, it made me realize just why my mental health slowly gets worse. I'll try to recover.

At the messy room part, I almost started crying because my room is super messy and does not fit my aesthetic AT ALL. And I want to change that but I have no motivation :(

    Hello there,
I totally know, that the second point is one of the things, that hurt my mental health. The problem is, that I don't have my own room and the flat I'm living in is too small for my family. I can't wait to move out, because when I live somewhere else, I will finally have my own personal space! But until that happens, my mental health could get worse. Even though I try to tidy our place up, it doesn't really help. I often get totally overwhelmed and my depression and anxiety are making it even worse. I don't really know, what I should do until I finally move out.

0:39 I don’t drink coffee at all or very rarely, so it isn’t a problem for me luckily
1:12 I need to clean my room still 😭
1:49 I need to work on my posture, my shoulders and neck are constantly tense and awkward
2:14 I once accidentally deprived myself of so much water that my body shut down for a split second and I blacked out. I’d shown signs of it before, suddenly feeling fatigue and nearly fainting and having to catch myself, but just shrugged it off as “normal”.
2:51 I only ever skip meals when I’m not at home, or in my comfort zone. If I’m at a different house, I’ll usually eat breakfast, some snacks, and maybe dinner.
3:34 Gotten over my binge watching phase after Avatar: The Last Airbender, but maybe if the right show pops up the habit will return lol
    3:59 I’m horrible with this. I’m not a very healthy person 🥲
4:48 ME EVERY DAY. I struggle with this and it makes me freeze up and panic in situations that need quick decision. I need a long time to process the situation in full, and I have a fear of regretting decisions and have a hard time letting go of decisions in the past, so the seemingly small decision seems life changing or with possible hidden consequences.

lol I really needed the reminder to drink more water. Glad to know that my 2 cups of coffee a day isn't too excessive!! also going to clean my room now. I KNOW all these things help but most of them are the first to go when I get stressed or busy. Thanks for the reminder! and guys, it's ok to fall off the bandwagon on healthy habits, you can pick them up again anytime! no shame!

In all seriousness at least 5 of these smacked me in the face and I'm sitting here bridging a meltdown, this helps.
