Scotty....so in 20 yrs time would you buy the last generation Celica or keep the one you got?
So i've heard you're mad scientist?
Scotty Kilmer damn Scotty that sucks bro
Let smoke a blunt later
new supra is just new bmw z4 under the hood. drivetrain and engine wise
Hello Scotty, you used to do a lot of repair videos. Please can you start doing them again. Thanks
Scotty shed a tear when it was discontinued
94 Celica (6th gen) looks way better than later Celica (7th gen). Toyota just lost it with 7th gen Celica. So I doubt many fans of 6th gen Celica would shed any tears
Ben McInnes Nothing beats the AE86 Trueno
I’m sure Scotty did not shed any tears. Because his Celica is eternal, so he will never need to upgrade to a newer more complicated celica which break down and cost a fortune to fix with all the computers.
He was actually a lot happier I believe. 😂
@@_-X-_ u sure? Cuz last time i checked, a subaru did. A rare one too....
I wept when celicas stopped being produced. As far the 7th gen goes, I love mine, no serious issues, handles perfectly, never fails, and looks great. I have no complaints.
I love how he can make so much sense while sounding completely nuts! Love this guy
Sounds nuts for sure
Yawn! This guy IS Nutz. Can't even pronounce Celica correctly. If it were the way he pronounces it would have 2 LLs!
@@trfmamurphy9885 Ohkay?
HAHAHA! that sums it up indeed, he has this funny style you keep watching but he spits facts
My 01" Celica GT-S 6spd has a little over 290k miles, all original engine and trans. Best car I've ever owned.
Ive got an 02 celica base did you ever change transmission fluid in it ?i was told not to ??thks btw love the car i get alot of attention from teens about car
@@jonwalker3795 if it's an auto I wouldn't replace the transmission fluid unless you're the original owner and have kept track of all maintenance.
Yes , it's a good looking car, has aged very well
And as you know, people on the enthusiast forums arent all on their "2nd or 3rd" engine
00 gt swapped over to 2zz w/ 6 speed, rebuilt suspension w poly bushings, upper front and rear strut bars, Tein springs, upgraded rear disk, bolt on goodies, apexi n/a standalone ECU... I eat Scotties for breakfast 😂
@@graveyardrumblers "swapped over to 2zz" you swapped engines? You just proved Scotty's point.
PS "Scotties" are tissues & toilet paper, don't eat those for breakfast.
Not sure what to make of this, I have a 2000 celica gt with 350k miles, in 17 years, I have replaced one starter and one alternator, to me is the best A to B car.
It's because you got the 1ZZ-FE engine in it.
I recently bought my 1994 Toyota Celica and I absolutely love it!
I had a 96 celica gt stick shift 10yrs ago, they are fantastic little cars...
"Redlining your engine makes it wears faster" (scotty) never rev up your engine😂😂🤣🤣
Son is selling my daughter a 1995 GT. I've enjoyed working on it for her so much, I plan to find one for myself.
@@MiranPayman too much money, ppe header $750, Cai $270, ecu $$300+...😁 now is stock, is not TOO fast but is fun when LIFT kick in...😀
Have fun with it :) and take very well care of it , im sure it will last you for a good amount of time with the proper care.
Oh I thought yours finally gave up.
never
Right.. I thought his finally croaked.. I was gonna lol
Me too haha
Nah, he maintains his Celica, i believe when you keep caring for a car it will last a lifetime. It is just how much (or little) you want to spent. And with these older cars you know they have less electronics in them that can go bad.
wishful thinking there Scotty
2zz was a brilliant engine, they were only unreliable when not looked after, not serviced and owners letting the oil level run low and owners over down shifting, over revving the engine. I’ve had 3 2zz’s all redlined daily for well over 100,000 miles and never had a problem.
*1zz oilpan has entered the chat*
Toyota late 90s Celica and Supra will never be beat in terms of a perfect sports car that was affordable
Cough cough miata cough 86 cough
Underrated joke^^^
@@bryanwelch6209 He said AFFORDABLE lol
Soooo many people rave about the NSX. So good you NEVER see one on the road. Add in a nasty plastic interior and hilarious pricing....hello floppy.....
Bryan Welch the NSX-R was a track car.... if we’re talking about a stock Supra turbo vs a stock Nsx-T premium well that’s 270 hp vs 320hp even with the 300 pound difference the Supra has the better weight distribution even without the aerodynamic
Isn't the fabled Toyota Supra going to have a BMW Straight-6 engine? Scotty's got a point, Toyota's getting laaazzzyyyy
basically a rebadged BMW Z4
If i were Toyota, I would use the 5.7 motor from the tundra.
or maybe they should stick to the legendary 2jz
I Agree
Becose bmw really make good engines.
I don't agree with the sentiment that the 2zz is a bad motor. Not sure why the emphasis was placed on the Yamaha design either. Yamaha has designed almost every performance engine put into a Toyota. I've never seen a 2zz with a grenaded oil pump that happened from anything other than driver error. Oil starvation, over revving, etc. I currently race a 2ZZ with over 200k miles on it.
I think it was the early 2zz's he's talking about. By the time they put them in our cars, they were better. My old 03 Vibe GT has over 250k on it now.
I love my Xrs
I used to rev the $hit out of my ‘00 gts, never an issue.
I've had my '03 GT-S for several years now. I've ran it hard quite a bit. Never had any issues. My car has somewhere around 190k miles on it too. So yeah, when he said that my reaction was just "Bullshit. That motor is way more reliable than you are giving it credit for."
I was under the impression that Yam's only/primary contribution was the valve mechanism.
Great video. Loved the history and the way you brought it to the table.
Excellent video! I love how you explain the information in a very fun ways and the small pic clips on the top right corner are a killer idea.
I love watching all your videos since I learn many facts, while having fun at the same time.
Btw, while I was going to college in Puerto Rico, I used to drive a 1971 Celica and it was very impressive Small car in every aspect, for those days.
Thank you for all your videos and keep the fun and facts allays together.😄👍👍👍
Fully loaded 2002 Celica GTS owner here... bought new, still have it 16+ years later - daily driver too. It has been very reliable for 16 years. I just had to put the first non-maintenance money into it but she is worth it as she has cost me nothing these 16 years. Oil still as clean as it was new and purrs like a kitten. I also took care of it.
I own a 2001 Celica ZR (same engine as GTS but in Australia). Never had to do any work to it other that oil changes and Ive had it for almost a year. Seems like a great car to me so far, ive got 176k on the clock
Own a Toyota Runx..not a Celica but has 2zzge engine, extremely fun and reliable. Only oil changes and it still rides. VVTL-I is chief.
Idk dude. Scotty's irrational hatred of the 2zz-ge returns.
I have two vehicles with the 2zz-ge with a combined total of almost 600,000 kms (235k on one, 340k on another). Asside from replacing a new throttle body on one of them, I have had no problems.
The engine does have its faults, but these faults only become apparent when one is bashing the crap out of the engine.
Must never saw redline
A friend of mine told me once that he always looked at the Celica the same way as the Mitsubishi Eclipse - just a graduation present for a high school girl.
You should change the name of this video to something along the lines of "Why Toyota stopped making the Celica"
Now do one on the Honda prelude.
Replaced by the acura rsx(mainly) and accord..but still a way better looking car and performing car imo.
Let Scotty explain.
Gentry Simpson the Acura rsx was a successor to turn 2 door Integra and not the Prelude.
Honda was making the Accord coupe and by the end of the Prelude they were basically the same thing as well. Like the Toyota Celica and Solara in the late 90s. It's the same product.
Soooo the Prelude was replaced by the Integra which already existed? That makes a lot of sense to me. /s
You want to know what happened to the Prelude? It was a sporty coupe. Coupes simply weren't able to exist after 2000, most companies offered a single coupe option at that point at most, Preludes just happened to be one of the earlier models to get cancelled for Honda but the Integra and NSX weren't far behind.
Thank you Scotty!! I love your channel! You solved lots of my problems
I'm installing a new carb in my 77' Celica today!!! Love these things
Love you're videos Scotty I'll prolly watch it again after I wake up and have my coffee good content! Good night
Hello from Beaumont texas! I was just telling one of my coworkers about your channel, we got a "rev up your engines!" Kinda guy at our shop that loves to get the oil movin on these diesel trucks.
Rev up your oil pumps
nok nok nok .....whats up engine.... its oil pump fall :D
lmao 😂😂 right!
I liked for ur mustang
oil not pumping today. try again later
A.S.A.L.A.007 What pump should I use
Here I am thinking that Scotty’s Celica actually bit the dust lmao
When is the last time any of us saw it move?
First car was a 1977 Celica GT in that yellow you showed at the beginning the video. I loved that little car - ran the wheels off of it. Its wasn't perfect - had a few electrical issues as it aged, but all in all it was a great first car. 20R engine with a five speed.
Great inside information. Thanks Scotty!
Love your videos and knowledge you share! Thanks Scotty, you the man!
Toyota cellica should come with Scotty Kilmer signature edition:)
Broke Down Driveway Edition, silver only.
100% yes
Yeah, the Celica should too.
You just earned another sub, sir. I like the style of your reviews.
I really like all your videos, keep up the awesome.
Rev up your Toyota Celica! 🚗🔥🔥
Yawn
Loved my 2000 GT-S till the Katrina gas price hikes. And like Scooty said the oil pressure was a major issues/it ate oil with the GT-S model when driven hard. Loved the car and miss it!
How to fix later model Celicas with Yamaha engines: 2JZ swap bro!
"Redlining your engine makes it wears faster" (scotty) never rev up your engine😂😂🤣🤣
DONT U WILL GET A SPUN ROD BEARING! went throw 2 engines :(
Hey Scotty, Toyota’s Sports car after the Celica was the Scion TC With a similar engine and a supercharger option.
Great video 👍
My first car was a 1991 celica that got me to 250K miles and my current car is a 2001 celica that has 230k miles and it's been nothing but wonderful to me. I'm just waiting and hoping that the celica comes back so I can get another.
I thought his celica finally crapped out when i read the title ... then i thought hahahahha! that things never gonna die being in scotty’s yard lol.
The Death of the Toyota Cressida next please
Which was one of my favorite TOYOTAs
One of my favorite cars ever
Who never have/had a Cressida, missed a lot about real cars! What a remarkable vehicle.
I can answer that one for you myself. Its because they were absolute junk. The two relatives I knew who had them both of them had major problems. One of them had almost everything replaced in her car within 8 years of owning it. The automatic transmission, the motor, radiator. Any major part you can name failed on that car.
@@V8Supercar1 our Cressida stayed in the family for like 30 years. By that time, we had almost everything fixed/replaced in it (all moving parts). We also did some major upgrades: AC, Power Steering, Power locks and Power windows, made it manual and then again automatic... Even replaced engine with Hilux 3y engine and back and forth from v6 to L4... the car was build from real solid metal. Always safe and always joy to drive... sold it to the neighbor who installed a Hyundai diesel engine in it. It was an amazing car...
Awesome video, thanks Scotty you re the best!
i feel like your videos have improved significantly
It doesn't rust much in Texas except for when it rains four weeks on in.
Rain is fine . It's the salt on road during snow season.
I know when a hurricane forms over the ocean, actual salt water will be carried over with the storm.
it's the flooding that sends cars to the grave / junkyard......
Texas is quite the large state you know. Yeah if you live near the ocean there is salt carried in by the wind but the 90% of the rest of the state hardly ever sees any.
Tell me about it. It’s been raining forever here in Fort Worth. It’s raining right now.
I LOVE the celica !
From the older muscle car looking RWD models, to the EVO and STI killing Celica AWD GT4 and even the last gen model with the yamaha motor was dope even with its issues with it 8k redline, handled very good and was a light weight chassis. The celica has been everything from RWD AWD and FWD. Great nameplate that Toyota should bring back
I don't think the last gen celica is any where near as fun to drive as my 77, but the 2zzge engine is fantastic if you build it for racing. Just go ask the lotus exige.
Toyota cares about reliability than performance witch it matters the most of a car
CAT MARIO not true. Toyota has made tons of sporty and performance cars AND sporty trucks. Toyota mostly likely has more sport sedans and sporty trucks under its belt more then Honda and Nissan. So they do care about performance but Toyota builds cars based on what the market is asking for.
Excellent video.
scooty im a young mechanic and drive a 1994 celica gt and im honored that you educate me on it because theres not much on it online but im would like to request a review video for the car so I can maybe learn something new
I have a 7th gen Celica but the engine still runs perfectly, I guess it's just a matter of how you keep it, I often get compliments on how the car looks, tbh I'm very pleased with it ubt hey, it's just my personal experience :)
Is it the 190hp or the 143hp version?
Thinking about getting 2002 Toyota celica. Is it worth it. 74k miles
@@Jhart44 it's not that much but it depends on how the previous owner treated it and how much they're asking. Now mine has 185k miles more or less and I have some work to do on it. Take into consideration that the original parts, should you replace them, are not cheap at all, especially considering that it's out of production and that there were not that many around to begin with (so not many chances of finding used stuff).
@@ernodios oh sorry, I didn't see your reply. It's the 143, I preferred to avoid the 190 because I thought that there were more chances of it being worn out since I was buying an used one. Plus so many 190 were pimped to look like videogames car, I wanted something sporty but still reasonably serious looking.
Impossible, Celicas don't die.
great video scott, tho you didnt mention the celica all trac turbo. i remember that car. did u ever see or drive one ?
Great vid Scotty
I drive a 1974 Celica. I bought it used in 1989 paid about $600. It needed new paint and few minor repairs but was running fine. The 18RC ENGINE it came was a good engine. It was made of solid cast iron . So even to this date never blew head gaset. The basic things can go wrong was needed another exhaust manifold as they all need to be replaced as I have over 350 thousands miles . It is easy to maintain as everything is within the reach. Oil filter plugs starter they hardly used any hardened plastic parts so nothing was easy to cause problem as many of today's new Toyotas as never trust plastics. It only puts out about 105 HP with 2000cc engine not much HP at all but the main thing is those engines were reliable. I just can't figure out one thing: WHY companies just can't manufacture simpler cars these days? Today's cars are jammed up with complicated computers analyzers sensors and all other jazz. I realize emission rules are much tougher today than bac in 1974 but engineers should come up with simpler vehicles which I highly doubt. 1970 -1974 Celica did not have even one computer part all easy to fix once you get to figure out and many parts are still available and cheap. So if you are planning to buy a Celica find one with very reliable engine.
Long live Celica 👑
Great Vid Scotty. Bare Facts
your awesome and love your videos
Celica GT-S was aimed directly at the Integra GS-R, not really meant to compete with the S2000.
The 7th gen was aimed at the Acura rsx type s
@@maxstrege4119 other way around
He's incorrect with the GT-S Making 255bhp as well. It made around 180-190. The Celica GT-Four AWD was the one that made 255hp and was aimed for the WRC. Thank god for homologation rules.
I think he just compared it to the S2000 because they both required very high engine revs to achieve their stated horsepower.
@@simeonstoyanov5226 I've noticed that there's lots of misinformation in this video.
Haha Scotty lookin like Doc Brown, Love it! Halloween costume....maybe? :)
Love all your work Scotty, thank you for your efforts mate. Have to say though you gotta pronounce Celica the right way. It is not, as you say pronounced Selly-Car (God knows where you got that from ! :-)) but it is correctly pronounced Ceel-eecar. You're welcome! Cheers, Brian.
Scotty, thanks. Informative chronological review of the Celica line. In some respect these cars were
always special as they performed inherently well, were built using Toyota engineering and quality and for a portion of their time they were rear wheel drive. I did not think as a child that their was going to be an ensuing death of rear wheel drive all for the sake of fuel economy. Outside of my Mazda Protege5 which is front wheel drive, the only other engaging front wheel drive cars I have ridden in are a 1988 4th Generation Honda Civic 5 speed sedan and a 2nd Generation 5 speed Acura Integra.
Scotty I love videos bud... BUT!... I have owned multiple 7th gen Celicas GTS's with the 2zzge, and this engine is a fabulous engine man! The one I have right now has 200k miles on the engine and I Rev it out to 8,350 rpm pretty much on a daily basis. 8,350 is the actual factory set Rev limit on 2000-2001. 2002 is 7,800 rpm, 2003-2005 (US) back up to 8,350! The oil pump issue is generally from people that don't maintain their cars correctly.
my celica never let me down not one time love it its a 7th gen also looks real good to
You also rev good looking girl
Yeah I actually have to admit I got my 2003 with 60K miles two years ago and have never had any serious issues whatsoever. Everything is still OEM and nothing major has been replaced..
My 2001 Celica GTS revs to 8,350rpm everytime I drive it and its stock except a short ram intake, so not sure why everyone says it only revs to 7,800
watch your oil level..oil scrape rings are faulty..
Scotty will never rev his celica cause it actually doesn’t run
Coy Kwan I loled so hard at this
Oh it runs, he is more busy fixing and test driving customers cars.
Car doesn't run, is just for show 😂
Never seen him so much as start that thing. Even in the Toyota vs Honda engine video.
I'm getting suspicious and concerned. I've never seen even one of his "customers", or even a shop to do work in.
love the celics from the 90s and early 2000s hope to have one at some point
Scotty, I think you're nuckin futs, but I love ya. Once again, you've nailed it on the head. Fortunately, I'm still rockin my 3s-gte powered 1990 Celica All-Trac Turbo (a Celica you totally overlooked in your video). It's still a wonderful driver's car after all these years & still looks great.
Can you please do one on the death of the Honda Prelude maybe?
The 2zz is a great engine, hate to break it to ya. It’s also more comparable to a B18c than a F20.
The FJ20ET in the DR30 Skyline GT-S had 190 hp in the early 80's. BTW the 3SGTE was developed by Yamaha too the same with the 4AGE, 7MGTE, 1-2JZGTE.
I used to have an 82 Toyota Celica with the flip up headlights in the front. With a 22R motor and a 5-speed. I used to very easily keep up with Porsche 911 and other higher-end sports cars. Not to mention I outran a state trooper and a local state comp in it. I would love to get my hands on one again today if I could. Love the show Scotty keep up the great work. PS don't retire from videos.
My first car was a new 1979 Celica. Had that car for 18 years and 200,000 miles. All original.
Was my 1st new car also. Loved it.
A friend had something like it, many good miles and big hatcback. Around that yr they were based on the big Corona I think!
I have 1990 St182 3s-ge Celica(equivalent of GT trim with 2.2 in US) Same gen as your previous black Celica with pop ups. And 3s-geits made with Yamaha too. Top end version of GT-Four/All-trac was real rally sports car, mid trims were relatively fast aswell. Its the cheapest trim versions that were 100% like Corolla mechanicly :v

Hey scotty, please make a video about Scion Tc 2005-2009!!! A little history about scions please thanks!
I have the 2zz-ge from 2000, on 178k miles without any issues other than lift bolts going, but that's an easy fix. You're getting confused with the 1ZZ engines that had problems with oil.
Proud owner of a 97 Celica GT
Your closing statements about your Celica is true. I have a ‘92 Celica GT
Yrs ago i owned a T18, loved the pop up headlights
Favorite car iv ever owned was my 1985 celica gt
A friend of mine bought a new 1976 Toyota Celica GT with the 2.2L 4-cyl 20 R engine. It was a cute car and fun to drive but the reliability was not as good as we were expecting it would be. Not long after getting the car all four tires started shedding chunks of the belts, they were steel-belted radials. The car had a serious lurching problem early on and required numerous trips to the dealer to try to get it fixed. I believe it was some malfunctioning emission control device.
My dad has an 86 GT my mum has a 98 ST version and I have a 2003 VVTI these cars are brilliant and Toyota should start making them again. Great vid by the way, thanks.
I love the celicas from 1990-1999 the best ones ever made i have a 1993 it almost has 300k miles and still runing strong
They are amazing you have ig 😃?? The_1994_GT
My 2000 celica just got over 260,000 miles and I've never had a mechanical problem with it.
mine has more 204.000km and I never bring it to Toyota. I just to little maintenance.
Cause you’re a woman, you probably drive slower than my great grandpa
Its standard another fun car is the 3ooogts i had two base models and one twin turbo i loved them this is my first toyota and im sold love it thks for input and help!
I bought a manual transmission, 2000 Toyota Celica GTS in 2004 with 24K miles. I was a junior in high school and paid cash (life savings lol) for the car. I was so proud of myself. 2 years later, with less than 50K miles on the engine, it blew up. I was driving from Miami to New Orleans (1K+ mile trip) when it sounded like someone set off a grenade. Diagnosis: a faulty oil pump. I still cry every time I see a late gen Celica on the road :'(
The early Celicas were the best but they all rusted out. Once they went front wheel drive they went downhill.
You can say that same about all early Toyotas as far as rust.
coasted downhill
They didn't have rust issues in sunny Southern California!!😁
Scotty! Dont sell your ‘94 Celica short! In Europe and Japan we got the fire breathing rally spec “GT-FOUR” Celica’s those cars were monsters! and mopped up in the European WRC in the mid 90’s. Your car has plenty of motorsport heritage!
Hello from the UK I have a 7th gen Celica with a 2zz in it over here it's called a t sport it's a 52 plate and it has done 203000 miles and a bit of change as well can't remember the exact amount so not really a weak engine I Kane mine every day and it doesn't use a drop of oil and has never had any major engine work
That's why I'm glad I got the 2000 GT model with the 1ZZ-FE engine in it. Thanks, Scotty!

i recently saw a beautiful, boxy-looking car parked near a lake in minneapolis. i had to go close to see what it was and it was a cressida, something i hadn't seen since i was a kid. it looked somewhat more "deluxe" than the toyotas i recall from the 1980s, such as the tercel. did you ever work on a cressida?
Yeah I knew that Yamaha 2zz ge engine also found in the Corolla / matrix XRS was notorious for problems . I remember a buddy of mines kept replacing it due to burning oil fast.

@@ptcrax6232 cool, you should help Scotty then, he doesn't really know the Celica :)
I have a 2004 Toyota Celica with 110,000 miles in excellent paint, engine and body conditions...Never a mechanical problem other than a brake, oil change, tires and wiper changes..No other problem and very satisfied.
Good for you Lizzy! If you take care of your Celica and don't dog it, it should last you almost forever.
I’d like to satisfy you too..
Never had any issues with my 2ZZ-GE. Just regular oil changes with a good synthetic and swap out your lift bolts and OCV filters every 35K and runs like a dream.
I had an 84 Celica manual, loved that car. It was a little bit sporty and super dependable. It was so dependable even when it got older I didn't think twice about taking it on a long trip, it never let me down.
If you really want to drive a fun little car, try the 2008 Honda Fit manual.
3sge and 3sgte were made by yamaha also so your records are incorrect. If you have a look at cylinder head you will see yamaha printed on.
Can you please make a video elaborating on your thoughts of the new Supra ?
Interesting Scotty I is learn a lot from you
