@@autumncarlson822 Hi, if you do regular maintenance and not race your car often, it should last as long as mine. A minor problem I encountered at around 270K was the TPS (throttle position sensor) which caused the idle to be erratic and, at times, stalled the engine (but I could restart by popping the clutch while in gear). It was an annoyance but a cheap fix of $60 for a new sensor. I'm sharing this experience with you just in case you run into the same issue as I did. My car has 410K currently, and some works I have done since it turned 400K included a new radiator, coolant flush, and a heater bypass. The heater core leaked , unbeknownst to me, and I was wondering why my car overheated. A quick fix is to bypass the heater; otherwise, it's a real pain to replace the heater core as many Celica owners can attest to this. I also cleaned the air filter and air mass sensor and recently replaced the cat (too old and dirty) to pass smog. All is good now and still running on the original engine and tranny. I'm aiming for 500K before a motor swap. We'll see.
@@vhg7 The problem they often encounter I have hered is the ceramic piston well lining getting damaged if there is even the slightest problrm with lubrication, and being basically impossible to repair, necessitating a whole replacement block.
@@egoalter1276 I agree and heard similar issues from other Celica owners. I may have lucked out or perhaps my driving habit has helped to prolong the life of my engine. It now has 417K and runs fine. It does leak oil, though, and from what I was told it's not an easy fix so I monitor the oil level and see how long this engine will last before I do a swap and at which time I will also replace the clutch and possibly transmission as everything is still original with the car. Still, it's been a good car and I have no regret buying it back in 2002.

turbo restrictor limited boost to something like 30psi, but Toyota's idea was to make an inocuous design circumventing the rules to allow them to run an extra 5psi (with belleville washers which allowed flex to happen instead of a sealed turbo inlet). Chief Scrutineer said he'd never seen something so ingeniously designed
First time watching you guys and it’s this video- mind you, I’ve had a 94 Celica for about a month and RUclips suggests me this vid. Definitely subbing and the car is still great at 25 years old with 230k miles 😂 it’s a trooper for sure
My brother in law had a 92 Celica 2.2L 5spd manual. The first car I learned manual on. Great reliable car body panels were solid and heavy now that I look back but it was a great looking car. He had a lift back that looked way better than the ones with trunks. Super reliable too over 300k miles and still going! Good ol 5SFE That was in alot of Toyotas for many years
Thanks for the video. I had an 89 gt and I loved that car. Wasn't fast but it was flickable and fun to drive. The only car I've ever had that went over 200k miles.....and then I sold it and the next dude drove it for a couple more yrs after, absolute beast. It's kinda sad they stopped bringing the gt-4's here, I didn't realize how good they were until this video.
I own an '89 ST-162 in ST trim, 3S-FE and a 5-speed...I absolutely adore it. It's a good looking car with a sporty demure, handles better then it has any business doing so. She doesn't make a lot of power but still boogies, and if I drive her like a little old lady I average 35 mpg in city (stop light to stop light and I don't short-shift)! I like the feel of the shifter (it's aged well, it's still notchy and direct), the hydraulic rack is weighted well and only has about 1 1/16th" free play on center I do wish it had a little more feed back thought, the clutch is stupid light, throttle response is good. My example held 179.4 psi in all four holes on a cylinder bleed down comoression test, with 200k miles on the OD.
this makes feel allot better about my brother wanting this as his first car, people dont really talk about cars much where i live, *everybody* has a truck
From a guy that owned several 2zz believe me , they are really good but you have to keep in check the engine oil , it burns a lot of it , I have destroyed lots of big end bearings because of this but hey it revs up to 8k
No, it doesnt, it burns really no oil lol i own one and ive owned it for more than 10 years, i bought it new and never had any type of engine oil burning oil problems, only 1zz had oil problems
James, I wanna personally thank you and the Donut team. It is because of this video that I bought a ‘00 Celica GT-S. Keep doing what you guys do best, I love you all.
Waiting on an adjuster to assess the damage. One shop said it could cost as much as 7K to fix it IF they can find a rear quarter for it. From what I found, the rear quarter is basically the whole back half of the car.
I hope things work out for you, man. It would be a crime, were that _person_ to go unpunished. I loathe insurance (mostly how it's legal racketeering), but it's a necessary evil. Ironic that those that need it most, typically refuse to have it.

turbo restrictor limited boost to something like 30psi, but Toyota's idea was to make an inocuous design circumventing the rules to allow them to run an extra 5psi (with belleville washers which allowed flex to happen instead of a sealed turbo inlet).
Good ol 5SFE That was in alot of Toyotas for many years
10:20 I want my anti-lag to sound exactly like this
Thanks for the video.
I just bought a 1991 sx Celica. I love her the most out of all the cars I’ve driven. Literally get excited looking out the window to see her.

There it is
Celica, my heavenly baby! 2 years ago I finally was able to buy a st185 (not the one in my profile pic). Absolutely awesome car for its age.
Aw man I'm jealous I have the st184 and I'm thinking of putting the st185 engine and tranny into it
I own an '89 ST-162 in ST trim, 3S-FE and a 5-speed...I absolutely adore it.
I own a 94' Celica ST with over 336,000 miles on it. My car is Bullet Proof. Scotty Kilmer Approved!
10:17 is my favorite James moment.
LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING BAKBEGBKBAGBEGHBAKBEGKBEKBAKGBEGBAGBAK

The sixth gen celica will always have a special place in my heart. I find it to be gorgeous!

I hope it lived up to your expectations. Thanks for watching!
this makes feel allot better about my brother wanting this as his first car, people dont really talk about cars much where i live, *everybody* has a truck
*Revs up Celica* check engine light appears
*turns into a school bus* time for middle school for Op
Nah man that doesnt happen, they are reliable as shit
Seimor Skinner
Just pop in FIXiT then turn off engine light...you’re welcome dipshit but all Toyota’s are reliable all the way to the apocalypse...
FINALLY! The family is complete.
Not yet, we need to do the most successful car to come from the Celica: the Camry
James, I wanna personally thank you and the Donut team. It is because of this video that I bought a ‘00 Celica GT-S. Keep doing what you guys do best, I love you all.
92 Celica ST here, 230,000 miles this week. Daily driver. 1.6l with a manual.
“Blakakablakakak” I’m dead😂
Oh my goodness....
I didnt know how to describe to noise but you got it😂
I Celican't believe this vid is finally here!
Thanks DonutMedia.
my father still have a´88 2.0 GT Twin Cam 16V stocked in a garage for over 2 decades!
Bruh. Your energy made this video. Can't wait to build my dream celica my guy.
My 90 Toyota Celica GTS just got rear ended by an uninsured driver. After a year of getting it road worthy. First night on the road and BAM.
Sue the ever-living shit out of them.
Nooooooooooo!!!
@@NaruSanavai Thank you, it's been a very tough year. This is the last thing I'd expect to happen on top of everything else. When life gives you lemons they also squeeze into your eyes.
I love this episode. I think any car with rally history. Means a great episode
Also means great car!!! My 92 all trac is my favorite car ever. Well maybe a 91 supra but my 92 st185 celica all trac is 100 times rarer. Only 271 sold in u.s.a. in 92
MY first car was a 2003 Celica. Loved that car.
I loved my 5th gen so much. The 5S-FE engine oil leaked more than a puppy before potty training, but it was still such a great car. I had it for almost 10 years and got it to 215k miles with relatively little maintenance during that time. This takes me back!
