  • The City of Cape Town usually has a squeaky-clean government audit and maintains a high credit rating by Moody's. Its former mayor had also been elected as World Mayor of the Year in 2008. Despite all of this, it is regarded by the World Bank as the most unequal city in the world.

after apartheid was defeated , people from all over south africa moved closer to cities seeking for greener pastures .They started to build informal settlements in low laying areas .These were temporal shelters as they looked for jobs in the cities. Because of this we now have these well developed suburbs and informal settlements right next to each other .Don't let these poor settlements fool you , most of the people living in them are not poor at all . You must understand that the 'poverty' in south africa is not the National geographric type of povery .

I've noticed that there is a common theme with black people around the world, and that is that they can't stomach the idea of someone else ruling over them again. Which given their history is understandable, but at the same time, it's been 30 years since Appartheid and the countries that chose to remain European colonies are prosperous now. They need to stop being stubborn and accept that the current system isn't working for them. In 30 years the ANC has done nothing to improve the lives of ALL South Africans and the country is worse off then it was under Appartheid. The problem is that the ANC is more focused on revenge, then they are of actually uniting the country, and this isn't helping anyone. I think the Born Freeers are the future of the country. They should not forget the past, but if they cannot forgive and focus on the future, then things will only get worse.

I am going to say something that is perhaps upsetting and controversial. The government and the people who run it, are a representation of the majority of the people of the nation. If the majority of people are corrupt then, the government will be corrupt. If the majority of people steal, then the government will steal. If the people constantly blame the government for their living conditions and environment, then the government will blame its citizens and previous regimes for their failures to build and deliver an industrious nation that is fair and harmonious for all. The first act to your salvation is to change the way you think.

This is exactly a tool that paints how far we've come under the leadership of criminals which being the ANC... By now South Africa should've been one of the great United countries with the best hospitality looking closely to FIFA World Cup 2010 success stories... @@HeyJuuude-05 Cape Town is more like a Western city with many factories and businesses centred there, creating opportunities while the Eastern Cape is more poor. Thousands of people therefore flock to the Western Cape, not only from the Eastern Cape, but also from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Zambia and other African countries, many coming with only the clothes on their backs. They erect shacks all over, and once there is a big congregation of people in one spot, they demand houses, schools, jobs, electricity and water supply while simultaneously the crime rate gows up, putting a burden on the police. This is not sustainable in a city with limited resources such as water, electricity and land. Hope this answers your question

This must be stopped, as the housing crisis will never be solved if this continues unchecked

Honestly the government does take care of people living in townships, the government builds free housing for these people, they don't pay water bills, sewage and bin disposal. It's honestly completely up to them to leave the settlements they built when they migrated from rural areas to the town. Although some where placed there during apartheid era. People who live in places like camps bay worked hard to be there, they pay for their own things. And it's clearly a modern place. When they say that the government doesn't take care of them its a lie because camps bay people basically pay for their water , sewage, bins and bought their own houses...come on...

There is a easy solution to inequality in South Africa. Force the wealthy to have more children this will keep business knowledge and resources concentrating on a selected few. Stop the influx of people to the Western Cape. Its really sad to see how fertility rates in the wealthy are falling to a record low extinction rate low.
